robogun submitted this review of the HTC Aria:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

If you want your android in a smaller package, well this is about the smallest. It is a relief carrying this instead of a widebody phone.

And No Carrier IQ detected!

Downsides are a slow-ish processor (only 600mhz) and inability to run full Flash Video. otherwise it runs the full slate of Android apps, at least those which ATT approves - which brings me to the point.

This came with 2.1 and ATT offers a 2.2 upgrade. Do not - I repeat, DO NOT - watch my lips move D O N O T do this upgrade!!! Not only will it run slower, you will never be able to root this device.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Strin Theory submitted this review of the HTC Aria:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

As the title states.

Previous reviewer may no have been familiar with Android. I have seen this platform evolve over the last 2.5 years and have used different devices. HTC has got it right with price versus features and performance.

I have this phone from a trade with a Palm Pre Plus with 2.1 WebOS and the Aria blows that away even with the Palm's more elegant multitasking. With non AT&T ROM you get Wireless tethering as it was intended with out an extra charge. Live wall papers that for some reason AT&T had disabled.

I can RDP and use logmein almost at the sametime. Battery life is OK ( i have 2 so it gets me through the day), I'm a heavy user and constantly email and websurf (4 pages open usually and I have 6 emails account all set on push).

Size is easily pocketable. I miss the flash for he camera (on my pre I used that as a flashlight).

Moving on to bigger and possibly better things. Getting a Dell Streak 5 hopefully modded will yield a better convergence device.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

hates htc submitted this review of the HTC Aria:

Overall rating: 0 (out of 5)

Run away from this phone as fast as possible. I wanted to download a ringtone and between calls to ATT and HTC I spent 7 hours, literally, not kidding. I talked to 5 people at HTC. The 3rd or 4th said I needed to download a ROM update, which took hours, then the last person said I didn't have an SD card so I needed to buy one. I went to Radio Shack to buy one. I had one. The guy at Radio Shack took my SD card out and put it back in and within 2 minutes at most I had a ringtone. What a waste, like I have nothing better to do. Also battery life stinks and it's not user friendly. I'm in the market for an Iphone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

showstoppa submitted this review of the HTC Aria:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I was hesitant to get this phone after reading many of the reviews about the Aria on here, but I got it anyway and I must say, so far... I'm pleasantly surprised.

Being the second Android phone to enter the at&t line-up, I think it's a good start for HTC. With that being said, we all know that the Samsung Captivate (Galaxy) will be the flagship Android for at&t to start, but this phone is excellent for a mid-entry level smartphone.

First off, I used it all day and did not experience one dropped call. Secondly, after charging the battery full out of the box, then letting it run all the way down, my next charge was more worthy of a battery hungry smartphone and lasted all day without a problem.

The design is excellent. Perfect size for a business phone to slip right into your pocket, undetected. My favorite part is how they designed the battery cover to cover the entire outer edges of the phone so if you drop it and nick it up, the battery cover can easily & cheaply be replaced.

The in-call volume and speaker phone could be of better quality, but I don't feel it's nearly as detrimental as many on here make it seem... or maybe I have super hearing.

All in all, for the money, I think this is a great start to pull away from the dreaded Winblows Mobile phones and enter the Android realm.

PROS:
> Signal retention
> Good, vibrant screen
> Phone design - Rugged but sleek
> In-call sound quality (volume can use help, but quality is good)
> Very user friendly
> Bluetooth works to perfection
> Screen response is good
> Battery life is not too horrible
> Very user friendly

CONS:
> Some glitches in the software. Location for weather and other services not always accurate
> Speakerphone (and media speaker) is cheap and tinny.
> Don't understand need for "trackball" when it's touchscreen
> Battery life is not spectacular either
> While screen looks good, still seems that HTC uses cheap material resulting in dead/stuck pixels
> Must use optical button to take picture

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

eaglebqh submitted this review of the HTC Aria:

Overall rating: 3 (out of 5)

I bought this with no contract and loved it for about 6 hours. I had two very basic problems:

1) As one reviewer said earlier the ringtone is nearly worthless. I tried everything I could think of to make the ring tones louder (different ringtones, custom ringtones, different directories, etc.) and regardless of what I did it didn't make any difference. The ringtone would be manageable for me in a quiet room, but outside or driving, etc. it just wasn't going to work.

2) In call volume - again, for me really weak. You can change it for a "hearing aid" setting which helps the in call audio but for me that was a stretch.

Except for these two issues I really liked the phone - tons of customization capabilities, quick, perfect (for me) size-wize, etc. BUT - I had to return it.

Apparently I'm not the only one that had some audio issues with it 'cause I visited several forums prior to buying it and saw some other comments regarding the audio but I was really hoping it was their specific phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

widgetaviator submitted this review of the HTC Aria:

Overall rating: 3 (out of 5)

First off, I had this phone for 2 weeks and even took it to europe. As an Android device it seemed quite good. As a phone, not so much. Size is extremely pocketable which is great, but a 3.2 inch screen is a little on the small size. The screen is very nice to look at and is quite readable indoors (if your eyes are good) but 3.2 inches is too small for comfortable typing. As a phone, the screen completely washes out in the sun and the ringer is almost completely useless, I missed more calls in those 2 weeks than I have in the past 5 years. Also, in Spain (Madrid) the time would not auto update, although here in U.S. it worked fine. Had the phone part been better I would have kept it. As it is I traded it for the new Samsung Captivate which I think is totally awesome and definitely the better phone as long as you can handle the bigger 4 inch screen.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

This looseness causes the antenna which is the entire back to lose connection and drop the call. This is a documented problem on the internet. I will be going back to a Blackberry

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

This phone was awesome though easy to text just like a mini HTC Evo.

PROS:
2.1 Android
Smallest Android Phone
HTC Sense
7 Screen Layout

CONS:
No Flash for 5mp Camera
No Live Wallpaper
Att Crippled so you cant have 3rd party Apps

I would recommend this phone for someone who likes a small sleek phone.

PonyCarMan submitted this review of the HTC Aria:

Overall rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

PROS (not mentioned by other reviewers):
1. No physical hardware button to end a call. Yay! On many smartphones, hardware End button remains enabled even with screen off or locked, causing accidental disconnects while using bluetooth with phone in pocket. I don't miss that feature!

CONS (not mentioned by other reviewers):
1. Proximity sensor (designed to turn off screen during call when you bring phone to ear, then turn it back on when you move phone away from ear) remains active even on bluetooth, causing unexpected behavior, including occasional disconnects when handling phone or moving into/out of pocket - compounded by #2 below:

2. Power button to turn off screen overridden by proximity proximity sensor. Since power button is directly above sensor, when you press the power button to manually turn screen off during a call, then move hand away, screen immediately turns back on. No setting in phone to disable proximity sensor. They clearly didn't think this one through!

3. No file explorer. May be a 3rd party app for this, but nothing included out-of-the-box.

4. No way to Snooze or Dismiss multiple reminders individually, only Snooze All or Dismiss All.

5. POP/IMAP mail client only allows you to attach files with certain pre-determined file types/extensions. No option to simply browse SD card and select a file to attach. Must choose from limited list of file types (Picture,Video,Audio,Document) then select from the corresponding list of files that appears. Word 2007/2010 (docx) files will not appear in the list, only 97-2003 (doc) files appear, so although you CAN read Word 2007/2010 files with included QuickOffice app, you can't email them as attachments!

6. GMail attachment types even more limited than POP/IMAP mail client.

7. Syncing calendar events with Outlook 2007 using HTC Sync caused duplicate events on both PC and phone!

HTC Aria
- Firmware 2.1-update 1
- Software 1.25.502.2
HTC Sync
- 2.0.38

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I am very impressed with the apps, the interface, the voice to text command and the overall look but...the battery life stinks, the keyboard is hard to use and you can not use a pen to tap the screen, it is a 3 step process to turn off, and I want a voice dial button on the side of the phone. Other than that, it rocks. I had a Blackberry and this smart phone blows it out of the water!! (except on the email, Blackberry emails were faster, but that is not an issue for me)
For the price it can not be beat!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Tilt II with android...ok that's dumb but a few of you know what i'm talking about. Speaker is weak but that's coming from a spoiled blackberry user.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

mister99 submitted this review of the HTC Aria:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

My opinion...

Form factor: good (and no buttons on right side to get pressed when you pick it up (returned my Backflip because of that!). Nice no-slip case surface.

System & Speed: Android 2.1 is very good. More standard apps included.

Desktop: 7 with custom scenes

Audio: not very good without ear phone

Display; very good and has two-finger pinch-zoom as well as swipe optical

Third party apps (and my development apps): Really easy to install using MotoDev's (Eclipse front end) - all I did was plug the phone into USB and it showed up in Device Mgmt. window. Installed my apps w/o problem!!

Battery: With battery consuming features off except when using them (Wifi, bluetooth, GPS...) about 5 days.

Camera/camcorder: good (no flash)

FM radio: excellent (ear phone required - it provides the antenna)

Typing: small but usable in Portrait position, great (large) in Landscape position.

I do recommend it.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I wanted an android and the backflip looked questionable. Then here comes the Aria...

PROS
Surprisingly quick
responsive touch screen
HTC sense UI is surprisingly good

CONS
Cannot load 3rd-party apps
Battery life is good but could be better (probably a function of android)

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

The phone is painfully slow and she has had multiple drop calls and sometimes the phone powers on and off. She is going to return it asap.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

For the processor speed, it runs at a very fast pace.

Pros:
Fast
Easy to use
Small
Android 2.1 w/ Sense
Optical Track pad
Capacitive Buttons
Battery life
Widgets

Cons:
The keyboard is somewhat hard to get used to

Coming from iPhone to this is a hard, but good move. Android is so much more advanced than iPhone these days, even in phones as small as this. Overall, I really enjoy this phone and it is exactly what I was hoping it would be!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

waltah submitted this review of the HTC Aria:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I'll start this off by saying that if you are a spec nut and won't give this the time of day, then you should go hands on with it. You'll be pleasantly surprised at how well it runs.
PROS:
Size-only a pro if you don't want a huge phone.
Excellent call quality.
HTC's Sense UI is sweet!
Display looks great on screen this size.
Easy to customize.
Very good onscreen keyboard, especially landscape.
Looks like an Evo meets Incredible...only mini.
Excellent build quality.

CONS:
No camera flash
No loading of unsigned apps (Thanks, AT&T)
For me, that's it for the Cons.

If you want a huge display on AT&T then wait for Samsung's Captivate. If not, I don't think you can go wrong with the Aria.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
