worthya2 submitted this review of the LG Ally / Apex / Axis:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

Although the call quality was clear, the internal phone memory itself was just awful. The last time I had a problem with my phone, it told me my memory was too full to receive text messages. I didn't even download a single app that day and I had also deleted all of my texts like it told me to. On top of that, I ended up deleting all but one of my apps and still did not have the capability to text. I took it to the Verizon Wireless store and they couldn't even fix it, so they rebooted it for the second time. Lost all my apps and I don't know why but all the apps that were stored on my SD card were lost as well. Can't wait to get my Droid 2.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I really Like it so far. This is my first smart phone. Cons: Battery Dies fast and takes a while to charge( I would buy a car charger), every once in awhile it will freeze for a few seconds, phone is kind of heavy. Other than That I love this phone. I do wish it would have it so when you miss a call or a text it would remind you after 10-15 mine.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I wish that it had a setting to allow multiple alerts (voicemail, text, etc.). I miss calls because I miss the incoming alert and the phone cannot remind me.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Then again I'm not running Twitter or Facebook. Usually I just play Farm Story or Angry Birds.

This is my first Android device and my first touchscreen phone, and overall, I am very satisfied.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

edenjade1 submitted this review of the LG Ally / Apex / Axis:

Overall rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

I've had the phone for a week. I really like it but it was very difficult to learn how to use & I'm still working out some bugs. I miss having speed dials but have found how to do the shortcuts so my family is just a touch away. pros: great phone for the price with lots of very nice apps. I still haven't gotten to picture message but I think that's a glitch with my company's programming which they're working on. It's very fast & responsive checking my email, going to Facebook, etc. I used the advanced task killer to kill some predownloaded apps but I don't think it helped. Cons: The battery life is very short. I've had to charge it every night & sometimes during the afternoon, also. I'd recommend this phone but be ready to learn b/c it's very difficult to learn & the manual isn't knowledgable enough to answer all your questions. You will have to play with it to learn it.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I got it when our cable/net provider started providing cellular service. I can do everything on this phone that I can do on my pc. The touch screen is fluid, and I am able to navigate pretty efficiently.

The only con I have found so far is that if I am constantly using the radio or playing a game for a while eats up the battery. Which should be obvious.

Other than that, I love this phone and definitely recommend it.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Kineticboy2001 submitted this review of the LG Ally / Apex / Axis:

Overall rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

Ah the LG Ally, my first smartphone and my introduction to Android. (Insert lovey dovey hearts and harp music here)

Without comparing the phone to something better or worse I can say it's average. I loved it as my first smartphone, with all the wonder and excitement that comes with finally not getting lost or knowing exactly how many bowling balls can fit in a olympic sized pool. The excitement fades, as it always does, and from there I had a phone (great service Verizon, thanks!) and nothing much else.

Funny thing is that it was doing fine up until the 2.2 update. Once that hit (another wave of excitement) I noticed that the phone would randomly turn off during long calls. I don't know if it over-heated or what but it got unbearable. Not crushing, but annoying none-the-less.

And now just a few quick points:
Size: Small but a little heavy.
Slide: One of my favorite aspects, I much prefer the motion of this phone than that of say the Droid 2.
Screen: Small but irrelevant. (In my eyes, it all looked rather nice anyway.)

All in all, I didn't hate it. Wouldn't go back to it now that I've upgraded, but I didn't hate it; and I'd recommend it to new smartphone users as long as my shutoff glitch was just because of my phone, and not a model-wide problem.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Reason I got it was so I could get my home email during the day from my office. Please note I have a verizon phone and verizon email address. I was told the ally would download the emails every 15 minutes - sometimes they haven't downloaded for over 20 HOURS!! then I have to turn it off and back on. Occasionally it will work the way it is suppose to and download the emails several times a day. The calendar is not at all like the Voyager I really liked that calendar.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

havaloc submitted this review of the LG Ally / Apex / Axis:

Overall rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

I picked up a used LG Ally on Craigslist really cheap as a way to test the Android waters (I'm a previous Blackberry stalwart). If I had relied on this experience I'd think pretty poorly of Android. A couple of weeks later I got tired of the issues I had with the LG Ally and picked up a Droid 2 Global. Here are my gripes with the LG Ally.

The Ally has a very small amount of ram and internal memory, so even with a few basic apps the device would run out of memory and you'd have to reboot it or clear your cache. Thus, you would have to futz with the phone to ensure you could do basic things like continuing to text message.

On the text messaging front, about 8% of the outgoing texts would fail to send, and I'd have to resend the texts. It would also take a long time to send texts.

Getting a GPS fix would take anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes in clear sky with the Ally. In contrast, the Droid 2 Global gets a fix nearly instantly outside, and within seconds under a thin roof.

As a phone, the LG Ally sounds alright, and signal strength was acceptable, no issues there.

Yet another issue is the speed of the phone. It is slow and because of the low memory, you'd have to wait for the icons to reappear if you went to the home screen.

Hardware wise, the phone seems pretty durable, and the screen quality and resolution are decent.

As for rooting, it actually took some doing to root. The phone preformed much better with the Velocity rom as opposed to stock. One benefit of this phone is the very vanilla nature of the Android on it.

So, I'd recommend this phone for people who want a cheap phone that does the basics in a somewhat acceptable way, or perhaps for those who end up dropping their phone in the toilet on occasion. They are cheap to replace on the secondary market. Otherwise, look at other phones.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

james.h66 submitted this review of the LG Ally / Apex / Axis:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

I have been wanting a smartphone to be able to do what I've basically been doing on a computer... checking email, and basic surfing on the internet. Not much gaming. My laptop has been suffering, and I've been thinking about just replacing my laptop with my smartphone... thought it might be a little bit cheaper, and a little more convenient. So, when my carrier eventually started carrying the LG Axis, I had to check it out. When I first saw it, and tinkered with it a bit, I loved it! I eventually got it, and I've had it for four days now, and it's just been awesome! I would strongly recommend it!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

uptheorg submitted this review of the LG Ally / Apex / Axis:

Overall rating: 3 (out of 5)

I am writing this review based on my wife's comments using this phone. She was all excited with her first smartphone when she got it, but she has since cooled on this one dramatically, so I felt that I should let the phonescoop community know her thoughts. Specifically, the touchpad does not respond every time she touches it OR it responds when she has no intention (such as when she waves her hand over it). This means that she is poking around for far longer than she cares to when she wants to use it and then at other times, she is making calls or accessing applications when she has no intention to do so. She also complains that the phone is almost useless when she is driving because she must study the screen to make sure she is touching the right place and therefore she cannot watch the road at the same time. I suppose this is a problem with most touch screen phones -- I use a qwerty keyboard on my phones and don't run into this. Overall, the phone appears to function as it should besides these touchscreen problems: there are no dropped calls, the ringer is loud enough, the battery is sufficient, the email client works fine, it is easy enough to navigate, and the screen is easy to read.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I've been using a Droid myself for the past year, while she had an older messaging phone (the LG Voyager). She was eligible for an upgrade on her line, and we've found that when we're out together she was borrowing my Droid more frequently, to my annoyance.

She DIDN'T want a super high-end smartphone, and she REALLY wanted a decent texting keyboard, not some touchscreen-only solution.

For her needs, the Ally is a near-perfect fit. It gets her "enough" smartphone features to keep her happy, and a good little keyboard that she can actually use, along with a respectable battery life.

For my use being on Android 2.1 and the limited internal storage space would be detriments, but for her those aren't an issue.

Great phone for specific needs, we just happen to fit those.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

csilwy submitted this review of the LG Ally / Apex / Axis:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

I didn't have to upgrade but was able to get this phone free and I like the idea of apps. i traded in my old blackberry curve eager to see what this phone could be for me. I use it 80% of the time for work.

I'm most frustrated by the short battery life and the lack of one single INBOX for texts, emails (from 2 accts), voicemails and missed calls. On my BB, all those filtered into one easy to access in box. Now I have to search out each of those separate in boxes.

I think the phone is very hard to operate with one hand. It makes it dangerous to try to make a simple call while driving - something i could easily do with one hand and some memorized motions on my BB.

Its impossible to call or text with one if numbers or keys have to be accessed. The digital touch screen keyboard is so small, I spend more time correcting my message than anything.

I think its hard and uncomfortable to hold this phone to my ear even after purchasing a rubberize cover. Its awkward and hard to get a comfortable and tight grip on.

I do like how easy it is to access and surf the internet. Its great to be able to enlarge the images with my fingers on screen and with a touch go into a link. But I find little else great about this phone. i am probably going to trade it in on a new BB or simply activate my old one.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

gotmylg submitted this review of the LG Ally / Apex / Axis:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

My rating is based on phone for the bucks.

I wanted a phone that would provide dependable good quality calls (afterall it is a phone first and foremost).

I also wanted the phone to allow me to get on facebook and online to websites if I so desired. I wanted a phone that I wouldn't get bored with and it needed to be budget friendly and easy for me to use from the start.

The LG Ally fits the bill on all of that. With the ability through the apps market to change up the apps on your phone, you can change up what your phone offers. The only concern I have about the phone is that the Youtube video quality is grainy. For me it wasn't worth spending $150 more to get better video quality.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

BB has got a LOT of catching up to do if it's possible.

Pros:
Good Phone
Easy to use
Very nice screen
Price $50 with online discount.

Con:

Battery life!!!

The more I read every android phone is a power hog so I guess you have to deal with it.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Mr.Mystery submitted this review of the LG Ally / Apex / Axis:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

This phone is just amazing. After playing with every droid I don't get why VZ cust. get this phone instead. Android 2.1, and its fast, very responsive. The battery life is amazing, I got 2 days out of it! I can't believe the camera is only 3mp because the pictures look amazing. Very nice keyboard. The phone is very sturdy and the sliding feature its the best one I have ever seen, it feels like it would last forever. The Data speed and signal is the best one I've tried from a VZ phone. and they sell it for a bargain. It's like a gladiator, sold for cheap but you don't know what its got, next thing u know its destroying everyone out there. Truly a warrior.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Only 128 megs for internal storage, and you cannot (YET) put the apps or run apps from the SDcard (unless you hack (root) it! (Some 'Droid' forums/sites say the upcoming 2.2 update will change this, but I just called Verizon this morning and they assured me there is NO such thing even planned for that. They basically called me a liar for even mentioning such things.
--Camera is pretty poor quality. images were vary dark in normal indoor light (even with the flash)
--Apps run sluggish, switching between apps, windows, etc seems slow, constantly having to kill any running apps w/Advanced Task Killer app.
--Browser sluggish, websites very slow to load even on a 15 mbit/sec wifi connection.

If you can spend the extra cash, I recommend maybe the Droid 2, Droid X, Droid Incredible.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
