EG420 submitted this review of the Motorola Backflip:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

I must say, i've tried quite a few phones in my day, and this is by far one of the worst representaions of an android phone.

I honestly think it's the Backflip itself that's hindering the Android OS from really shining on this phone. Constant crashing of basic apps like keyboard and phone, and disgraceful battery life has really made this phone one of the most annoying smart phone experiences i've had.

Pros:
-the form factor is kinda cool, but once the aww factor wears off, it's nothing special
-5mp camera
-Android OS is great for customizing how you want your phone to work, and that's a plus

Cons:
-the battery life is absolutely horrible!!! Three full recharges during a day of moderate use is just wrong
-Apps force close or crash completely all the time. It's really sad, because other Android phones just don't do this
-not really a phone issue, but AT&T's bloatware is really not needed
-oh, did i say the battery life SUCKS?

Please don't feel like Android blows if you are an owner of this phone. The Backflip is to blame, and I sure hope AT&T's other Android phones work way better than this one.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Britbratxxnicole submitted this review of the Motorola Backflip:

Overall rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

I had this phone for 2 months, and it was OK. I hate MotoBlur but it was useful. The hardware is nearly perfect, but My touchscreen went wonky on me. I'm not sure if that was an issue with the software or hardware though. I just wished it would be upgraded off of Donut!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

megelton submitted this review of the Motorola Backflip:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

Sure it has a lot of features, but they are poorly designed. The phone is on it's way back to the ATT Store after trying to get one to work right in three attempts. It won't respond to calls, makes calls on it's own. locks up when answering the phone using the touch pad and is mostly not really usable as as a business phone without the Blue ANT Head set(Love it a bunch.

I can't make or answer two out of seven calls. JUNK Apps + poor Design of the primary functions this phone is supposed to have. It has a lot of potential but that's all it has just promises made but not kept.

I am demanding a refund and replacement with something that works as a phone as well as a toy.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I can say nothing bad about it. The sound is great I can hear the ringer even with out my hearing aids the photo are super good. For being 79 I am real picky. I just love it.

CONS.
I do wish they had a better battery.

fritzlaw submitted this review of the Motorola Backflip:

Overall rating: 0 (out of 5)

Because of my traveling I constantly used voice dialing. THIS PHONE WILL NOT VOICE DIAL. AT&T replaced the phone twice and it never worked. I went to AT&T and Motorola tech support and neither could make the damn thing work. When giving it a comand it generated random phone numbers to try. This was less than useless. When that fails you have to touch the screen several times to locate and call a contact. I would have thought that Motorola would build on the almost perfect Razor Flip in voice recognition technology--no they digressed 20 years. Bottom line is that if you travel and rely on voice dialing (to avoid looking up and seeing tail lights) stay away from this phone. I had to go back to the Razor and pay at&t for the privledge of ditching this piece of junk (and commit for another 2 years).

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

The phone is very small and the design is awesome. The camera and keyboard is cool too. I like that its ATT's first Android based phone.

PROS:
5mp Cam w/ Flash
Track Pad on the back of the Screen
Sleek Keyboard
Moto Blur
Light and Small sleek Backflip Design

CONS:
1.5 Android
Phone Lags at times
No Live Wallpaper
Limited Apps due to 1.5

I personally think this phone is more of a girls phone, but either or would like the design and its ease to be able to use social networking and email.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

The price is right at under $100 after mail in.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

But I LOVE my Backflip, all except for the batter life. It is awful! I'm a stay at home mom, and I'm really not on my cell that much, and sometimes the full charge doesn't even last a day. I charge it every night, which would be okay if it would last the day. I shutter to think of how long it would last if it was used lots.

Improve the batter life, and this would be a great phone. For now, I have my home charger and car charger handy. :)

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

zandercarden420 submitted this review of the Motorola Backflip:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

OK, so the only bad thing about this phone is the Android 1.5, when they update with 2.0 and multi touch, the phone will be perfect. i give it a "4.5 out of 5". call clarity is great, software is seamless so far other than the AT&T bloat-ware. if you have the problem with your phone turning off and rebooting, its because you have too many apps running in the background, get an app killer for when your phone starts to slow down, this is for all android phones though. keyboard and virtual keyboard are very responsive. MOTO did a good job with this one. good droid competitor.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Ninja M. submitted this review of the Motorola Backflip:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

After having an Iphone (in all its variations) the past 3 years, it was time for something different.

I'm really digging the Backflip. Easy to use and to setup. The phone holds a great signal in the PNW area of the country, and voice quality is awesome compared to the Iphone 3Gs.

PROS:
-Touchscreen and Keyboard options
-5.0 camera with flash and autofocus
-5 Customizable homescreens
-Android marketplace has more options of what you can do to the phone.
-Compact
-Good build
-Moto Blur makes it so you don't need a GMail email address to use phone.
-Location finding and remote wipe features of MOTO Blur.
-Call quality
-Noise Cancellation (it has 2 mics for it)
-Usable Speaker phone
-Independent of a computer for future software upgrades and contact sync
-a ton of free applications
-No login creation necessary for application store

Cons:
-Some people may not like that it doesn't physically sync with a computer. It does contact sync wirelessly through Moto Blur's website
-Definitely buy something to protect the screen. Its a plastic LCD, not a scratch resistant glass like the iphone has.
-Not as "fluid" and smooth moving about the phone
-Android's Web Browser is 2nd tier to Iphone's Safari, but nothing that won't be noticed too much by a casual user. There's always Skyfire in the Marketplace for better results
-Could be overwhelming to someone new to smartphones, but not as overwhelming as a Blackberry
-Should download shortcuts for GPS, Bluetooth, and Wifi on and off switches

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

goldenvapeach submitted this review of the Motorola Backflip:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I've been a huge fan of Motorola phones. I've owned four, including a RAZR and my last phone, a Q9h Global, all on Cingular/AT&T's network. So I was excited to hear that AT&T was FINALLY getting an Android phone, and held out for the Backflip.

Overall, I haven't been disappointed. It's my first touchscreen phone, so I can't compare it to others. However, I can say that I'm definitely pleased at how responsive it is. I did a lot of research on the Backflip before purchasing it. A lot of the issues people have complained about (Android 1.5 instead of 2.0, Yahoo instead of Google) I could honestly care less about. I know it'll get a 2.0 upgrade soon, and as for Yahoo search instead of Google, I have no problem loading the browser and just opening Google that way. In fact, I bookmarked it. Problem solved.

I absolutely love the fact that I have the option of using Wifi instead of 3G all the time. My only complaint about the Backflip (and it may just be limited to mine, as I haven't read any other complaints about this) is that sometimes when I try to take pictures, for some reason, the phone powercycles (reboots) on its own. This has happened several times while I was in the middle of using the camera. It's the only thing that has kept me from rating the phone 4.5 instead of 5. However, when the 5MP camera DOES work, it's first rate. The pictures are sharp and clear. I like the capability to edit and tag before uploading them.

I also know a lot of people have complained about the battery life. That can be fixed by tweaking a few settings on the phone. Again, problem solved.

I would buy this phone again in a heartbeat, and have recommended it to several people. I was worried about Motorola when they didn't have any really great phones after the RAZR, but they're back...Hello, Moto!

PROS:
Responsive touchscreen
Wifi
5MP camera
Motoblur
Large apps selection

CONS:
Phone powercycles when trying to use the camera

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

dpnolen submitted this review of the Motorola Backflip:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

This phone is a good alternative to other smartphones from AT&T. The overall design is the most impressive aspect of the phone. The media functions work great. The android market is growing like a weed, so almost all the apps I use on my iPhone are there. The integration of social and work email/messaging accounts is my favorite feature. Having the Android Q.T leaves you wanting for more" but it's coming in about a month.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
