InXanadu2 submitted this review of the Audiovox CDM-8400 / CDM-8410:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

Chances are you're either reading this for nostalgia or found this model on eBay to replace a lost/stolen/broken phone--because they aren't made anymore. For a no-frills older phone, it's pretty great.

Let me just say I got this to replace a lost phone in 2003, and six years later I still have it. I mostly kept it as a spare in case I lost or broke other phones--but now it's my main phone, and reliable as ever.

The polyphonic ringtones that came with it are fun and easy to hear. I have never used U.S. Cellular's "easyedge" service, so I cannot comment on that, but for just-the-basics phone usage, this has stood the test of time.

The display is easy to read, and the "animated" (barely) U.S. Cellular logo looks cool on it. What I like the most is how easy it is to put into "Etiquette Mode" (in theaters and libraries), and "Keyguard Mode" so that you don't accidentally dial your friends from your pocket! Just holding down "*" or "#" does it.

Pros: Size and shape. Good volume and display. Durable and dependable.

Cons: Tiny, close-together keys. Wish it help a charge longer.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Chadphone submitted this review of the Audiovox CDM-8400 / CDM-8410:

Overall rating: 3 (out of 5)

I get lots of compliments. I have to set it to vibrate and silence (but "on" so I can see who called) for different times at work, but the volume control takes it to vibrate only, which is the loudest vibrate ever in a quiet auditorium. Also, the phone is designed in a strange way that if you ever put it in your pocket without keyguard, it will probably buy stuff before you take it out again. I've lost 20$ that way in 8 months. Other than those, great phone!!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Nokia is a better brand and they don't have as many issues.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

autodudea1 submitted this review of the Audiovox CDM-8400 / CDM-8410:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

The audiovox 8410 is a fairly good phone. The only problem I have had with them is the charging jacks, as long as you are careful with them, they do alright, (a lot better than my mother's motorola v60) if you are even a little rough with the 8410's charging jacks they tend to break and need to be re-soldered. The 8410 is a pretty rugged phone. (I have dropped mine thousands of times, ant the most that happens is you have to put the battery back in.) I have cellular one service through western wireless and I have noticed that the alltel 8410 can be reprogrammed for cellularone's service because it has a default SPC code of 000000 (6 0's), however The cellularone 8410 does not have the default code and can only be used with cellularone's service.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

bls0n submitted this review of the Audiovox CDM-8400 / CDM-8410:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

Personally, I think this is a great little phone. It does everything I need it to do. Here are some of opinions:
1) The ringer volume is not the loudest around, and it MIGHT be a problem if the phone is trapped inside an insulated purse. However, the volume truly is audible, and I appreciate the fact that I can hear my phone ring without announcing it to the world. Concerning the earphone volume, I usually keep it at 1/3-1/2 of its total power, so I still have a lot of room to work.
2) The ringtones that come on the phone aren't necessarily the best in the world, but there is the option of downloading more.
3) There is music that plays when the phone is turned on and off that is a loud and a little cheesy, but that doesn't really hurt anyone--its not very long.
4) I had a bad LCD on the first phone I got, and had to trade it in. But every individual phone cannot be flawless.

This phone is a huge improvement over the phone I used to have. I definately recommend it as a free phone (which it is for many plans). Heck, I might even have paid money for it.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

AlexDDR submitted this review of the Audiovox CDM-8400 / CDM-8410:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

But I have been nothing but disappointed since I've had it. I find it very hard to hear callers even with the volume up all the way and often have to use the ear bud to hear them clearly. Even the ringtones are very quiet, especially if you download them. I followed the directions on initial charging but havent been impressed with the battery life. Another problem I have is my phone echoing my voice. It is a problem with almost all calls reguardless of my signal strength.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

This particular phone has been a promotional item. 90% of my 8410 customers return to report some type of problem with this phone. Low volume, software issues, not honoring a rebate etc. I've found their customer solutions difficult to locate and have little regard for the end user. I prefer Sanyo, Motorola, Kyocera.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I have to say it is one of the best phones out there if you don't need a camera phone or a flip phone. The color screen is very clear and easy to read. The phone's reception is excellent as well. I have only experienced one dropped call when I was talking to my mother. It was her Motorolla V60x that dropped it. The only complaint that I have is that the ringer volume isn't loud enough, and it doesn't have any preinstalled games. But I bought the phone to chat, not to game so that's not a problem for me.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Incoming ring and ear piece volume is hard to hear.I have to give Nokia credit in this field because every Nokia I have owned has been loud. The color screen is hard to see outside.I really do think though that this is a problem with most color phones.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

It has great reception, an attractive display, a ton of features to choose from, decent battery life, and is very compact. If you have ALLTEL service and are not bound to a flip model, I highly recommend this phone. We have sold close 120 of these phones (since we received them) and have only about 9 returns. Most of the returns have been due to unreasonable customers or service area problems. That is a great return ratio. Two thumbs up!!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

It has been better than 3 years since the folks at Audiovox has put out a worthwhile phone. With the exception the unorthodox way of activating the speaker phone, I find the 8410 to be a pretty good phone over all. Also I feel that the ring volume could be a smidge higher. The size is just right for putting in the pocket. Unfortunately the key spacing and shape of the keys often causes mis-dialing. Otherwise this phone is very much worth the investment.....if you have small hands.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

jdubvdub submitted this review of the Audiovox CDM-8400 / CDM-8410:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

First color phone i've owned, and am impressed with the battery life. I did the 3 cycle charge to be sure i was getting all, and its impressive.
Reception is as good as any alltel phone i've had.
Only negative i can think of is the lack of pre-installed games, but that isn't a big deal for me.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I strongly recommend it.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
