narn3049 submitted this review of the Audiovox CDM-8600:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

I'm sorry but even though this phone is pretty durable, it has a bunch more cons then pros.

Pros: Lasted me awhile, and was fun to text on, because the keys had a nice layout, and was one of the first I had texting on, as this was awhile back. Was on Verizons network so pretty much always has coverage.

CONS:
Battery life from the start. This thing was absolute junk. I knew I was in a 2 year contract, but if I wasn't I would've honestly tossed this in a flash and upgraded. It also wore off. I had grayish paint on the front because the silver was already wearing off 5 months into original purchase of the phone. I didn't even drop this phone in that timeline. I think you should stay clear away from this phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

SpeedDemon submitted this review of the Audiovox CDM-8600:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

Phone was great at first, being my first phone period, but after a few months it started having problems. first the OK button stopped working properly.
After that came the screen, at first it just took a restart, but soon after i had to start tweaking the top half of the clamshell to get it on again until is just stopped working. wasn't too bad since i had my contacts already in so i could see who was calling on the external display, but once that went i threw it out the window. literally.

i give it a 1.0 because it took a beating while i had it and still made/received calls, until the antenna started acting up.

PROs:
-Durable
-screen was bright (when it worked)
-compact

CONs:
-Cheap
-speaker phone got softer over time.
-easy to loose the rubber cover for charger. With out it the phone doesnt look as sleek.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Can you believe that you may only call ONE (!) last dialed number. For the rest you have to press 10+ times various buttons although up/down buttons, that are used in other phones to scroll over the list of last dialed nubers ARE NOT ASSIGNED TO ANYTHING. Can you believe?
- You gotta be careful during text messaging - I locked my phone twice accidentally (! designers are drug-addicts I bet). I am not a keen of text messaging, used just several times and been trapped twice.

Resume: not the phone you want to buy.

Personally, after this experience there is no such company as Audiovox for me. Never gonna buy their products, fed up.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

nyyjilly submitted this review of the Audiovox CDM-8600:

Overall rating: 1.5 (out of 5)

I had this phone less than 3 months before it broke the first time. The screen completely died on me after everyday use. It was not dropped off a 3 story building or anything. It was replaced because it was still under warranty. The new phone worked fine for a bit but again slowly developed the same problem. I would go days without a screen if it was tossed onto the bed. I was going to stick it out until I was able to upgrade but then had complete shutdown and could not receive or send calls. If it a call did manage to go through, it would last about 15 seconds before the call was lost. All while I had full service. I live in a city and rarely had service problems with Verizon so it was the phone dropping the calls. I eventually gave up and got a new phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Bandu submitted this review of the Audiovox CDM-8600:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

I now have this phone for about 4 months now, and I am ready to throw it away. Within the 1st week, the phone would just turn off for no reason. After I turned it back on (with the charger, the on button stopped working), the battery was juiced. The phone drops calls in the Brownsville Tx area VZN like there is no tomorrow. The phone fails to charge at times and spends most of its life searching for signal. Worst phone I have owned to date.

Pros: Basic features, back display, speaker phone

Cons: Terrible battery life, poor volume during calls, filled with crazy glitches, fragile, poor signal finder.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

For some that may be a good thing. Also not reliable at all. I had this phone for about 3 months, and honestly the worst phone I have ever had. I will admit I have dropped it about once on my floor carpet but that is all.

The battery life is pretty decent, i have seen better. Fun to have a speaker phone, but not worth it.

This phone starts to fall apart after awhile, my computer chips and backing are starting to separate from the phone.

I recommend that you just put up a few extra more dollars and get a phone that is worth it.

Or unless of course you are gentle with phones.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I have to say it is the worst phone I have ever had, at 18 months, it is unusable because of bad connection in the flip point.
Coverage switching between digital and analog drove me insane, constant beeping. Ringer not loud enough, always missed calls.

To be fair, my Wife's phone (same) is alright at 18 months but she rarely uses it.

Speaker was ok, better than the Motorola V120e that I bought to replace, but the V120 has much better coverage.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Badcat submitted this review of the Audiovox CDM-8600:

Overall rating: 1.5 (out of 5)

Very disappointed with this phone. Al I ever want to use the phone for is to TALK! And even that is difficult!! But let's start with the UP side:
Pros: Great size, good looking phone, good color contrast on inside. Battery life not bad. Never had to use a car charger - keeps it's charge.
Here come with the Cons:
First annoying thing - the LCD screen flashes with the providers name, alternating with the time. You can program it out, but overtime you turn the phone off or lose signal, it's back. Very hard to read LCD screen, as well. Poor contrast - I usually have to open phone to see time. Difficult to hear on this phone - especially in car. 2 side buttons control the volume- another bad idea. You are ALWAYS hitting those buttons when you hold the phone. Not user friendly -really difficult to use calendar and other extra features.
No color display on outside screen. Buttons are small and not so easy to manipulate. Ring tones are very boring. The screensaver is awful. Really HAD to download and purchase wallpaper so I could appreciate the color resolution. Here is the worst part: I am now on my 3rd model of this phone: (My service provider keeps replacing it because of this glitch in the phone) The inside and outside screens just go blank! This has happened on the 2 prior models I had. You cannot tell if the phone is on, you cannot access your contacts, you cannot tell if you have any messages, you cannot tell who is calling you, cannot text, etc, etc ...the list goes on and on. If you are wondering why I keep getting the same phone, it is policy of the carrier to replace it with the same model if phone is faulty. And boy, is it ever! I will be switching to another phone just as soon as I possibly can.
If you are considering this phone - BE WARNED!!!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

iliketoread submitted this review of the Audiovox CDM-8600:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

Hello. I have had my current 8600 for about a year. I got my first one in Feb of 2004. My niece then proceeded to slobber on it, getting it wet, so you know the rest. Anyway, I liked my first one but really would have preferred to get a different one when it got ruined. Verizon would not allow me to get a different phone. Oh, well. My second one was OK for a while, then things went bad. I dropped it once with the antenna out and broke it off. Then, I dropped it and the inside screen went completely black. I could still make and receive calls, but I couldn't see who was calling or what I was dialing! Once it went back to normal, it would sometimes go black without me even dropping it! Then, it got to where when the screen would go black, I could answer a call but the person calling me couldn't hear a thing I said! UUUGGGGHHHH!!! Now, I barely get a signal at all! I can barely get a bar at my house or even outside!! And I constantly drop calls. I live in the mountainous regions of AL. You don't even have a ringer choice, only music! I just want a phone that rings!! I hate this phone. Am currently searching ebay for a new one. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY RECOMMENDATIONS???

PROS:
1. Nice color screen
2. Nice wallpapers
3. Easy to navigate
4. Volume button on side
5. Small size

CONS:
1. Horrible signal
2. Screen black out
3. Low ringer volume
4. Horrible ringer selection - does not even have a ringer. Only music choices!
5. Extendable antenna
6. For me - small size. I want a bigger phone.

I hope this helps someone out there who may be looking. Good luck!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

During the first year I forgot to take it out of my pocket and it went through the wash. After a day in front of the wood stove it worked fine, save a sticky "1" button. I've been happy with the sound quality and reception is pretty good. It even holds up to the abuse of my 1-year-old. Pretty durable for a little thing.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

kristen1165 submitted this review of the Audiovox CDM-8600:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

I have owned this phone for about 15 months now, and I cannot wait to get a new one in September. This phone is the first and only cell phone I've ever owned, but compared to the cell phones of my family and friends, it is not a good phone.

I can't think of very many Pros to this phone, but I can sure list lots of Cons

Pros: It's small and cute, and has Get It Now and Web capabilities.

Cons: Horrible Service, short battery life, you can't get a tone for receiving a text message, only a short beep. My Antenna broke really easily, and there's a button for speaker phone, but it hasn't worked on my phone since the day I bought it. This phone has nothing special about it,it's just a plain boring phone. There are many other cons to this phone, but I feel the aforementioned were a good indication that this phone is not a good phone to buy. Sure it may be cheap but you get what you pay for.

All in all, I don't believe this is a good phone to buy, espically compared to the quality of other phones. If you want the opinion of someone who has owned this phone for over a year, DONT BUY THIS PHONE.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Gosser submitted this review of the Audiovox CDM-8600:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

All the complaints about this phone listed are valid. I am already on my second (since I also bought my wife one) and can't wait to get rid of it. As you use them over a period of time the wear and tear is rapid including problems with the display. It begins to disappear occasional until it just never reappears. On my first, Verizon claimed the screen problem to be water damage, although my phone was never remotely near water. This phone is best for somebody that doesn't intend on using it very much.
Pros: nice small size...thats it.
Cons: Flashes 'Verizon Wireless' for 5 seconds between the date and time
Phone book takes forever to look somebody up
Weak reception with many dropped calls.
Once the display starts to go you might as well throw it out (smash it first so somebody else doesn't find it and use it). I just bought a new Nokia on ebay for $50. I can't wait to get it.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I use my phone for business and i need it to have excellent signal period.

Why i got it.

Bought two of the same phones because my spouse and i switch vehicles and travel so we wanted the same connections.

Pros
1. its just a phone
2. its the smallest and lightest one i could find (size does matter)fits in pockets.
3.front screen seemed large. see cons
4.color screen looked nice in the store

cons Why i am returning it.

1.front screen should just show date and time and incoming phone number. why the verizon banner blinking on the front screen? logo is imprinted on the phone. thanks to someone at this forum i finally got rid of it (temporarily)
2.this is the third replacement phone in 6 months im switching to a different phone but i am still undecided it is between lg 6100 and motorola 265 or something with out a camera..help i am so confused
3. i have two phones in the same exact place one has 2 or 3 bars the other has no service
4. screen went black that was the first phone
5.phonebook is cumbersome and awkward to use.
6.to be fair i have dropped my phone but if i dont crack the screen or the casing the phone should be able to handle it. these are portable phones that people take with them everywhere.
7. sound quality from regular speaker and speaker phone very poor and gets worse over time this is a problem with all of the originals and replacements

of all the phones I've owned this one is the worst from durability to ease of use to sound quality to how many times I've had to have it fixed and or replaced.

startac was my favorite but the panasonic was the best all around phone (best phone book)

hope this is helpful

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

khutsondc submitted this review of the Audiovox CDM-8600:

Overall rating: 1.5 (out of 5)

I've had this phone for about a year and a half and have had multiple problems. At first I really liked the phone (particularly the size) but started experiencing problems in the first week and it continued to get worse.

Problems: 1) At random times I'll be talking and will be able to hear the other person but they can't hear me. Found out that if I hit a keypad button it restores it momentarily but then usually happens again. Nothing like needing to continually press "1" to keep talking. Gets really annoying really quickly. 2) Voice dialer has no dedicated button so you have to push and hold the send button for a few seconds and wait for a prompt. Voice dialer wouldn't work at random times and continued to get worse over time. Got to the point where I haven't used it in over 6 months because it doesn't work most of the time. 3) The reception is TERRIBLE! I'm not one to bag on products but it's REALLY bad. My fiance has a Motorola v60 (the original ghetto phone, old school version)and we can be sitting next to each other and I have no reception and she'll have 3 bars. I can't stress enough how bad this is. 4) Lag time when you answer the phone. Sometimes I'll have to say "hi" 3 times before they hear me. 5) There's no "normal" sounding ring. If you like your phone to ring in salsa tones that's fine but all they have is a bunch of weird crap for ring tones. 6) Can't delete answering machine messages one at a time. You either delete them all or none. 7) Just lately the speaker phone has been coming on at random. There's no consistency with this, just sometimes when I answer a call the speaker phone will come on and blast my eardrum without warning.

I originally bought this phone because of its size. It does slip easily into your pocket. The outside LCD display is nice, and I do love having an answering machine so I don't have to dial up my call notes everytime I want to receive a message.

Overall there are much nicer phones out there.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
