gcg submitted this review of the BlackBerry Bold 9700:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

If you are a BB user then this is the one for you...unless you want to wait for the new 9780 with os6 and 5 mega pix camera...but that starts out only on T-Mobile.

I have had many BB's and this just had the best of all...wifi, 3G, track pad (bye bye ball forever!!) I like the keypad and can actually type faster on this than I could on my last BB the 8900.

LED flash is better than average in low light enviornments.

My favorite thing though is (and I needle all my iphone/android friends about this) is the battery life. I mean it when I tell you it ROCKS! I charge every other day and that's with normal to heavy use. I never turn it off. It's the best battery ever in a BB.

Hope this helps!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I loved that phone. When I called t-mo to get a warranty replacement they informed me they would have to send me the Bold 9700. (at no charge I might add). I have a new love. This the best Blackberry I've ever owed.

Pros....

Nice screen
Excellent voice quality
Tons of Apps on BB app world
Fast Web on 3G
Threaded texting
Touchpad mouse is so much better than the trackball
Solid Battery life

Basically everything I want it for it has performed flawlessly....

Cons.

None yet...Except it locks on Slacker radio...but i think that is user error.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

pinkbutterfly26 submitted this review of the BlackBerry Bold 9700:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

I purchased this phone yesterday at Walmart. I have to say, I was looking in to a number of different devices: MyTouch Slide, MotoBlur, and the Vibrant. Many told me that blackberry was horrible and that it would annoy me to no end and get an Android OS phone because they are leading anyhow.

I am not one who goes with the masses, I look at what I am going to be using the phone for and then find an acceptable device to fit my needs. I find that this is a terrific device.

There are no cons at this moment so I will talk about the pluses:

* This phone has a track pad, not ball. Less chance of malfunction this way and it is more versatile than the other blackberry models I was looking at.

* Non-Touch Screen. I like the fact that I can go with a vintage feel for a screen and still not be operating under the features of what would be the first phone ever made.

* Keyboard. I have seen many reviews where the keyboard was allegedly hard to get used to but I have to say, in less than 24 hours I am typing out full emails, texts, etc and I am not having an issue.

* Battery Life. Compared to my rather simple phone I had previously from Straittalk, I have to say that this battery is already beating out that phone battery and this device does 98% more than that one did. Realistically I use my phone more than the average person so I charge every night anyhow but it's nice to have a phone that lasts through the day and not die before I get home. 8-11 hour shift at work.

* Apps. There are a ton of free apps for this device and it is almost unnecessary to buy any. I may, however, buy the app that sets different LED colors for different contacts because I have the demo and the rainbow mode is too cool!

* Email comes through quickly. In fact, all notifications come through with no problem.

Depending on what you use this phone for is the only way that you can choose but if you want a nice work phone with extra features then this is the one for you!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Its very good for email and text messaging. The fact that its a 3G Blackberry makes a huge difference as well its fast.

PROS:
3mp Cam w/ Flash
3G Speed
Nice Keyboard
Email ease of use
Blackberry Apps and 3rd Party Apps
Fairy Decent Battery
Customize Fonts and Size
Customize Themes
Very good LCD Screen
Able to watch movies if you put on SD Card
Multiple Customize of Profile and Create your own Profiles

CONS:
Comes in Only Black...

Other than the color only coming in black this Phone is the Best Blackberry I've ever used.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

tazman1 submitted this review of the BlackBerry Bold 9700:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

This is a great phone. I am going to review this by comparing it to my 9650 on Verizon. I have had both phones.

The only things that are Bold about the 9650 is the 512MB memory and the Network(Verizon)although t-Mobile is getting better. Other than that, the 9700 beats it in every respect.

The Back cover is superior. The 9700 has the best back cover on a Blackberry today. The 9650's cover is the same as the horrible Tour battery cover.

The size of the 9700 is better. It is smaller that the 9650 but it feels like it is better built and the size lets you type on it with one hand.

The Battery is better. The 9700 uses the same battery that the original Bold used. The 9650 uses the same battery as the Storm, Tour and storm 2. Enough said

The T-Mobile 9700 uses UMA. This is great for low signal areas. The 9650 will not use that.

The 9700 has the black button accents. this was supposed to be a staple in the BB future. The 9650 doesn't use it.

The 9700 has better placement of the charging port

The 9700 starts up faster than the 9650. seriously the 9650 takes forever to reboot. This is a deal killer for me

If you're on Verizon or Sprint go for the 9650. You'll probably like it but if you're on T-Mobile or ATT stay with the 9700 on that Network. you will not be sorry. Oh and if you're worried about putting OS6 on the 9700 don't. Either ther will be a 9700 made with more memory or RIM will adapt an OS6 system for the current one

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

detsept988 submitted this review of the BlackBerry Bold 9700:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I really like this phone. it's basically my first blackberry but I've played with other ones before and this is definitely the best and I'm glad i own it.

PROS:
-very crisp, bright and clear screen.
-the texting screen is more like an IM screen which is awesome for going back to read texts. this also eliminates multiple folders (inbox, sent, drafts...) its all right in one place.
-trackpad. some ppl dont like but but then i didnt like the trackball so i guess its just what u prefer.
-nice camera and very bright flash.
-this isn't really particular to this blackberry at all but the i really like the blackberr messenger.
-the blackberry app world is really neat too.
-visual voicemail. it isnt exactly what i thought it would be but i really like it. having the voicemails on ur phone like an audio note or whatever is really nice.

CONS:
there arent really any. haha.
-the trackpad occosially freezes but it's pretty rare that happens (twince month maybe?).
other lil odds and ends but nothing that would deter me from buying it again....and im pretty picky.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

SomeGuyInIL submitted this review of the BlackBerry Bold 9700:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

Used to own a G1 so getting off the android market was very hard, but this phone is perfect! The phone is light weight and is not a big bulky phone that weighs you down as its in your pocket. Keypad did take some time getting used to but every phone you switch from does. This is the best phone RIM had made and i cant wait to see what model is next (if this device can be topped)

Pros:
Awesome design
Light in weight
Easy menu structure
Great track pad
Awesome Awesome in battery life
Very good phone for staying connected
Back cover of the phone has a grip (so when laid down your phone will not slide everywhere)
Connecting device as a modem is VERY easy to use

Cons:
Screen scratches very easy
YouTube freezes alot (carrier issue)
Some sites dont work on normal web browser but you can always get opera mini

** Overall an awesome phone to use and to run with for daily needs such as work and personal, I have had the phone for about 6 months and right now i would not even think about going to another phone unless they made a blackberry with an androi OS! Great job RIM

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

thomasdemasi submitted this review of the BlackBerry Bold 9700:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

This is my third Blackberry and I'm quite impressed with it. I had the first Curve, then the Curve 8900, and now this incredible Bold 9700. It's a really nice upgrade from the Curve 8900, which I was in love with, but who ultimately died from being loved too much. I don't adopt new devices very easily; I'm a bit of a luddite--but this phone is really great, and similar enough to the Curve such that you feel right at home as soon as you start using it.

It feels sturdy and good in your hand. It is a bit heavier than the 8900, but not has hefty or big as the first Bold, which I couldn't use one-handed because it was too big.

I was worried about going to 3G, but realized that 3G signal in my house is much much better than the GSM service was. This guy also gets better GSM signal than the Curve did in GSM-only areas.

PhoneScoop says that the screen on the Curve are of the same dimensions and pixels, but this one seems a lot sharper. Colors burst out at you and the contrast seems better. Images look sharper. I use it at the lowest brightness setting, too.

The keyboard is not the same as the Curve, but I'd say it just takes a few minutes to get used to. The key response is great. Your fingers will adapt to the new keyboard, and you will soon find yourself forgetting about the Curve keyboard.

I used the phone a lot today, with Pandora and fooling around getting my settings right and checking stuff out. I only ended up using one of the battery boxes, or 1/5 the battery. I project that the battery life is going to be great.

On the downside, I do wish that the phone were as light as the Curve. But the battery in the Bold is HUGE, so that's the tradeoff for better battery life despite it having 3G.

PROS:
Great Size
Excellent Signal
Wonderful Screen
Solid Battery Life
Optical Trackpad is a Godsent-It will surely be more reliable than the Curve ball.

CONS:
Not light-as-a-feather like the Curve
Some decent multifunction earbuds à la iPhone would be nice

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

It has 3G but it RARELY works, it says on EDGE most of the time, you can't talk on the phone and browse the web at the same time or anything. I'm just glad I could return it & get my HD 2 back.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

hiro.protagonist submitted this review of the BlackBerry Bold 9700:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

AT&T in greater Olympia area of WA

better is almost every way than the 9000
in my experience

+PROS

+Screen is amazing. Better res, color brightness, much easier to read text

+size: a little smaller overall with almost same size keyboard. Makes it easier for one-handed operation. Great tactile feel overall to phone

+5.0 OS is amazing! Faster. Multitasking MUCH more stable & smooth. Apps open quicker & stay open

+Threaded text messaging ... FINALLY

+Media support in general has been fantastic
little slow to preview pics though :(

+Signal: radio equip is amazing. Used to have tons of dropped calls and failed calls on 9000. 9700 has been 99.999999% reliable no problems at all switching between 2G/3G or using WiFi. 9000 had terrible WiFi support. 9700 has been flawless. Live in rural area and getting more bars and clearer calls Kudos to RIM

+Great little app runner - Facebook integration works well, google sync behaving quite nicely, google maps nice, vlingo really good, root mobile running in background and doing well and not interfereing. Multitasking is surprisingly good.

+Memory: this has been talked about a lot that RIM dropped the 1GB from the 9700 down to 128MB + mem card. In practice I have more memory available & more apps loaded with more operating simultaneously than the 9000. It's a better phone, period.

+Customization really good

+Trackpad

-CONS

-Camera & video capture still mediocre. I love bberry & wish they would fix this. Fiance has iPhone & both cameras have same MP but iPhone camera ALWAYS looks better. 9700 has flash & it makes people look jaundiced or anemic in every shot. iPhone camera with no flash does way better at night/lowlight than bbery with flash does. FIX THIS RIM!

-slacker app like to glitch on 9700 periodically

+INBETWEENS, MAYBE'S, I WISH-
-smallish but functional keyboard
-Bring back the stereo speakerphone from the 9000!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Email is great and very simple to set up. The battery life is one of the best that I have had on a cell phone. Phone is light yet packs a lot of features. Browser could be better, however, it is workable. Really don't have anything negative to say. You will not be disappointed in this phone especially if you have used Blackberry's in the past.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

hottoddy36 submitted this review of the BlackBerry Bold 9700:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

So,
I have used MANY phones ovewr the years, this being my third blackberry (7105, BOLD9000,and this) and this is certainly their best effort yet!
I will do this review concisely and for those who are either familiar with Blackberry products OR have read other reviews on here.
I upgraded, on ATT, from the BOLD 9000 I got last Summer (which I LOVED) and this model has it beat in pretty much EVERY way!
The size is NOTICEABLE smaller and MUCH more easily stored in a pocket COMFORTABLY! The battery life is UNREAL! Lasts for days~literally!
The trackPAD DOES take some getting used to but, once used to it, you will find it MUCH better than the trackBALL!
The keys may be a bit smaller but they have a BETTER, more POSITIVE feel to them! The radios are better as, compared to my 9000, it HOLDS 3G successfully longer and stronger in the same places and situations!
Overall, it is a GREAT Blackberry...BEST YET!
They still have SOME work to do, including updating their OS and overall interface a bit but, with time that will come too and their phones will be at the APEX of cellular technology!
If you find yourself even considering this phone, just GET IT! Worst case, if there is something about it you cannot live with, ATT lets you return/exchange for another...
I, for one, can see this being a nice, long-term relationship between me and my 9700!
Enjoy!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Upgraded from the Curve. Buttons small and had to get used to. Nice phone and I tether with my computer (Mac) and works great!!!!
AT&T works great - I travel ALL over North America and have had NO issues at all.
I was in Verizon and had issues. Hell, no carrier is perfect but I am very impressed with AT&T.
Buttons were smaller than Curve and had to adjust. I have a Apple Touch and still struggle with e-mail and texting,
Very impressed with BB products.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

southernyankee submitted this review of the BlackBerry Bold 9700:

Overall rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

I got the Bold 9700 because of a promotional upgrade, and since it only ended up costing me $49 I can't complain whole lot. Prior to the 9700 I was using a MotoQ9h, which I've since gone back to.

Pros: Trackpad is nice, although I miss the scroll wheel I had on an older one. That's just me. Sensitivity is good but not great. Media player is nice.

Cons: Volume was not very loud no matter what adjustments were made. I can hear my MotoQ ring during a concert but could barely hear the BB across the room. Keypad a little tight for those of us with large hands (another reason I went back to the Q).

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others but it is just not for me.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Now the new phone the enter key needs to be pressed hard in order to work correctly. Nothing is perfect but this one comes very close.

I went from a samsung eterntiy on at&t with rarely ever dropped calls, however the bold 2 I got it with t-mobile because I got the phone at a great price with new contract and that was right when unlimited calls was at $59.99. I have had a lot of dropped calls with T-mobile... not happy one bit but hey I am paying a lot less monthly. So no biggie. If you're going to use the phone for business get Verzion or At&t. Too many dropped calls with t-mobile.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Simply Terrible.
-3rd Party Software just as bad or worse than Blackberry Desktop Manager.
-Seemingly incompatible with MobileMe Service.

The Blackberry Bold 9700 is my first BlackBerry, and probably my last... What I liked best about it is: first and foremost, it works great as a phone. Calls are crisp and clear, and the battery life is simply amazing.

I soon discovered why... when using UMA mode it would drop calls, & lock up either 2 min or as late as 48 min into a call... I would literally have to pull the battery and reboot the phone to use it again. During the numerous battery pulls, I couldn't help but notice that the battery is HUGE... hence the long life i imagine. Despite this, it's much smaller than the Blackberry Bold 9000.

Syncing data to this device (on a Mac) was a tortuous process filled with generic errors like "Sync Error" or it would double the contacts in address book... which in turn would replicate the duplicate entries into Entourage 2008... Entire Calendars would be duplicated multiple times... The BlackBerry Desktop Manager Version 1.X for Mac is SO BAD... that it shouldn't even be in beta.. much less in production.... unfortunately... it seems to work better than Missing sync or PocketMac.

On a positive note... it seems to work ok with Exchange.
I just would not recommend this phone to a Mac User... or anyone interested in the UMA or WIFI calling mode.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
