tgc1980 submitted this review of the BlackBerry Storm2 9550:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

Well, as they say, "Once you go BlackBerry, you never go back". I ventured into the world of Android with the LG Ally. Not a bad phone, overall, but it was missing things in my opinion. I'd had the first storm and wasn't impressed. I played with one at the Verizon Wireless store and later traded with someone off of craigslist. (I traded for a phone that was worth like $200 more AND works better! Nice, huh?). Well, let me get down to business with the pros and cons:
Cons:
3G doesn't allow me to be online while on the phone (Not BlackBerry's problem, it's the Carrier. I WAS able to on T-Mobile, but I digress)
It does freeze up from time to time. Then again, what phone doesn't?
Pros:
Camera! Much easier to use than that of the Ally. Rim makes their BlackBerry's cameras user friendly. (It was a nightmare on my HTC ARIA that I briefly had).
Reception: We're talking about a verizon phone. Enough said on that.
Push e-mail and social networking alerts.
This is the one touchscreen that doesn't make me miss having a physical keyboard. It works superbly.
I love the BlackBerry App world. While others moan and groan about what it doesn't have, it has just what I need, if not more.

So far, so good. This phone is awesome. If it craps out on me, I'll just get the Bold 9650 BlackBerry (tax time's around the corner and I ALWAYS get a refund). If not, then this is a keeper. I'd recommend this phone to anyone! God bless.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

narn3049 submitted this review of the BlackBerry Storm2 9550:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

This phone was BB's ALMOST success at launching an iPhone replica. While it works, the phones screen does not feel as an iphone, and it sticks. I was fine with the full keyboard screen press, and in fact liked it, but some areas, were increasingly hard to press, and didn't feel right. Therefore I still have the vote on the iPhone.

I loved the first model better. I owned it before I owned the iPhone 3G I currently have an it was magnificent. While I love the Storm2, I was so used to the iPhone keyboard, and I'm not ready to try and get used to this again.

But I do love the phone for other various reasons, the web browser is fast, and it has a bigger camera then my iP, but I love it better.

Cons: Has the worst battery known ever!! I love the phone, but the battery for a touchscreen seems to go off fast. Not like my iPhone though. If these were fixed, I would have kept this phone. It is possible that a software upgrade could fix these problems

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

stormhater submitted this review of the BlackBerry Storm2 9550:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

After having 10 replacement Storms, I am hoping for the best with a Storm2. Day 1 was fraught with frequent freezes, but it seems to have settled down. All in all, the 2 feels more substantial, seems to be more responsive, and faster. The only negative that I can see (so far) is that the battery life is much less than the original. Hopefully, this is a resolution of year long problems with the Storm series-the bar has been set low, so a reliable, effective device would be a success.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Nicole18 submitted this review of the BlackBerry Storm2 9550:

Overall rating: 3 (out of 5)

This to me is a great phone; however, I have had a few problems when it comes to the speaker. I have exchanged the phone twice already, and am still not completely done with the issues. The first phone had to be replaced due to a speaker problem (perhaps it got dropped in the shipping process or something), and when I got the 2nd phone, if ever two people are talking at the same time, their voice ends up sounding like a radio frequency. DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS PROBLEM???? If you do, please comment and let me know. Maybe I am just losing my mind.

Other than that, great phone. Love the size of the screen, the quality of graphics on it, and takes good pictures also. I just hope to be able to get the sound issue resolved, and soon!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

greginmd submitted this review of the BlackBerry Storm2 9550:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

OK...let's be honest. With all the phones today, this is not the phone that people will want to see or passed around at an evening gathering for it's coolness.

This is an excellent phone for the business man who depends on immediate 'push email and calendar information'. The blackberry messenger is unsurpassed but only works with other blackberry users. You can send pics, video and text with little to no delay through the blackberry messenger conversation IM. You get immediate results on delivered and read text messages when using blackberry messenger. Text messaging is different and can be used with all other carriers if you are communicating with other users that do not have blackberrys.

Operating System (OS) Updates to this phone have fixed many issues and enhanced it as well.

IF YOU RELY ON SURFING THE INTERNET, this phone probably isn't for you. The browser is slow...but it still is very functional.

The screen is the largest among the blackberry cell phones. I LOVE the screen because it is very crisp, clear, and WIDE.

Blackberry App World is the equivalent to the Android Market Place or iphone apps but the selection of apps is very limited. I loaded the basic google maps, weather bug, traffic, and I think that is about it.

I upgraded from a BB Curve 8330 and I love the phone...but let's face it....the technology of this phone is over 9 months old and RIM is behind the times to start with.

I hope people find this review helpful.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

jiggaman2g submitted this review of the BlackBerry Storm2 9550:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

First off I want to say that I have been on the "Storm wagon" since the first one was released, I bought it 1 week after release. Despite all the nay sayers and all the skeptics I held on to it and added all the "leaks" and watched it progress.

Now the S2 which I have had for about a week now is simply AMAZING!!! The difference is night and day, the screen now having 4 sensors as oppose to just having one like the S1. Piezo technology is what I think it's called.

Hardware is so much sleeker, the buttons on the side are now rubberized as oppose to the chrome style of the S1. The memory upgrade is something that was so necessary! Because of that your now able to store a ton of apps without suffering from lag and multi-tasking is second to none.

To be honest I cant find anything wrong with this device!! and believe me I'm the type of person that looks for this kind of thing.

Pro's:

-Battery life
-Speed
-Memory
-BB reliability

Con's:

When and if you find one, let me know will you?

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

It doesn't do everything perfectly but it does alot of things very well. I am very impressed. Very powerful handheld tool. Blackberry OS is a little different at first but very useful once it is learned.

Pros- Great camera and video camera. Very very customizable. Lots of onboard memory. Beautiful screen. Beautiful design.

Cons- Not the fastest web browser. Needs more free apps!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

MsBlkALABAMA submitted this review of the BlackBerry Storm2 9550:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

In my opinion, Blackberry's are the best smartphone on the Market for real time email-personal or professional accounts. The BB Storm 2 of course, allows pleasure for those desiring to use a 'touch screen'. The touch screen is very responsive. I also used the Blackberry Storm 1. The BB Storm 2 is a great improvement which adds wireless and more memory. For entertainment, there is VCast Video and Music. A great addition is Slacker and Pandora Radio. The facebook and Uber-twitter software is grandtastic! The volume is appropriately loud. Speaker phone has good quality. I enjoy the "App World" as there is lots to choose from. Web browser is 'ok', but you can download the Opera browser if you choose.

Slightly on the downside---I had to learn how to type proficient on the keyboard. Multi-tasking abilities could be improved.

This phone caters greatly to my person & professional side.

Highly recommended.

p.s. I thought I wanted to try the Motorola Devour. Tried it for 30 minutes---went back to my Blackberry Storm 2!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Very disappointing. Not a team player in the field. Buggy, glitchy and temperamental. NOT ready for prime time. Relieved to go back to my 8330 Curve.

PROS Great screen. Reasonable battery life if you turn off GPS. Classy looking.

CONS Heavy. Terrible touch screen. Buggy, mine ran like a rough draft beta version.

If you're trying to run a business and have lots to accomplish, stay away from this temperamental, buggy phone. Shame on RIM for TWO imperfect Storms back to back!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

But after 30 days with the Tour, I was a bit board and traded for the Storm 2. Well worth it --- I now prefer the touch screen with its larger buttons. Great experience.

Pros:
-Intuitive, user-friendly
-Calendar program is easier to navigate than track-pad / track-ball options
-Apps are more fun with the larger screen
-Touch screen exceeded expectations
-Battery life has been quite good --- makes it through the day for me (a moderate user)

Cons: None

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Wow, was I ever WRONG. I hope the phone I purchased was defective, because if it wasn't the Storm 2 is one of the worst phones I have ever had. Here are the pros and cons:

pros
size
build
suretype keyboard

cons
voice clarity was terrible sounded like I was in a garbage can
Internet was SLOW only 25% of other phones
function buttons not responsive
the whole screen clicking is a very slow way to type
you have to highlight then click buttons which is 1 step too many

I cannot not recommend this phone at all. I am sending the phone back ASAP. Very disappointed.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

DirtyHarry submitted this review of the BlackBerry Storm2 9550:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

As an engineer, I'm pretty critical of all things and especially something I use all the time for work like a cell phone.

I been using a Blackberry Pearl 8130 for the last 2 years and felt it was the perfect phone for me based on size, email utility, and ability to occasionally access the web. It did everything perfect except the web. The screen was tiny and I now access the web a bunch, so I was looking for a better way to go.

I wanted an iPhone like crazy but its not available on Verizon, AND I'm located in the Rocky Mountains so ATT was not an option due to poor coverage. And from all I researched, the iPhone's email implementation(s) is/are weak, so that's a deal breaker for me. So I read everything I could find on available phones including the new Android based phones, and then reread everything on the Storm 2 and gave it a shot.

I'm glad I did! It is really an amazing phone, email tool, and web browser. Yeah its larger and heavier than my beloved Pearl, but it works flawlessly and is stunning to look at, and looking at it is what you do when you use your cell phone for email and web surfing.

Pros:
Beautiful build and screen.
Solid.
The interface(touch screen) is just wonderful and natural. Touch to select and click to implement. One stroke or two... you choose.
Phone call sound on both ends is great.
The music player output is stunning.
Battery is okay for me with about 20-25% left at bed time.
Even teeny tiny virtual buttons on web sites are selectable(and you CAN make them bigger if necessary).

Cons:
Rarely, the virtual buttons at the bottom of the screen will be momentarily unresponsive. No big deal!

You couldn't pay me to use an iPhone now. This IS the ticket as far as I'm concerned. Am I biased? I am now!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

hmm228 submitted this review of the BlackBerry Storm2 9550:

Overall rating: 3 (out of 5)

Coming from the Storm 1, the new Storm is a big improvement. That being said, I'm returning it for a different phone. This is the second Storm I've had in 2 weeks and they have both had the same problem. The buttons for send, end, Blackberry and return were replaced by virtual buttons on the surepress keyboard. They are unresponsive, especially the send and end keys. I frequently can't hang up a call and/or answer a call on call waiting.

Outside that issue, the new hardware is a big improvement. The typing on the surepress keyboard is much better. I like alot of the features of the Blackberry including the push e-mail and integration with MS Exchange on the BES. My preference would be to stay with Blackberry but since the device doesn't work well as a phone, I can't keep it.

Pros
Great display
Blackberry 5.0 software (including auto change time with time zone)
Solid feel
Wi-fi

Cons
soft keys for send and end
browser
screen slow to "wake up" when in sleep mode

I really wanted the Storm 2 to work, but I'm going to look at the Droid tomorrow. Better luck next time, Blackberry

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

mauricer1 submitted this review of the BlackBerry Storm2 9550:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

The phone is amazing, it does everything i need it to. It is much improved over storm1, my ONLY, and i mean ONLY issue with the phone is that sometimes it slows down and the usual blackberry IDLE icon shows as its processing (so i wish the phone was just a LITTLE faster to avoid this) to be closer to that of the iphone speed with applications.

The screen is great, the phone is great, everything said in other reviews is accurate. I would not go for any other touch screen phone in the market, for someone who needs security and a touchscreen phone this is YOUR BEST BET.

Hopefully sotrm3 will completely eliminate any IDLE waiting when the phone is 'processing' or thinking.

This phone is 95% of what i want it to be, for comparison, the storm1 was 75%. iphone is 90% (it lacks security and business integration but has a slightly better OS and processor)

The touchscreen i personally LOVE on the storm2! much better than any other technology out there, better than droid, iphone, etc. I LOVE THE CLICK!!!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I was concerned after all the bad reviews with Storm 1, but I love the Storm 2. My friend has the Iphone and besides hating AT&T the phone part of the Iphone sucks. The Storm 2 after a little getting used to texting on a touch-phone is great. You will love.

Pros. Everyhting.

Cons. But I'm fed up with not having the data when I need it (It has constantly gone in and out). I'm fed up with the phone resetting itself when I'm trying to take a picture.

But the touch screen is wonderful. Very precise. I even love the suretype technology better than I thought I would. The text messaging chat style is very useful as well.

At this point, I'm ready to have my Tour back because at least the data works and the camera doesn't cause the phone to reset when I want to use it.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

bsarboukh submitted this review of the BlackBerry Storm2 9550:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

This is now my 2nd Blackberry, previously owning the Curve on Big Red's network. I've played with touch screen phones before (tried the Dare, owned the Voyager, and messed around with friends iPhone's) and I said I would never own a touch screen phone. I felt it slowed me down while typing on it. So, time comes to upgrade and I was torn between trying out the Storm2 or Droid...decided to try out the Storm2 first. Well, I've loved this phone since the first night i owned it. The "sure press" i honestly thought I would hate...I stand corrected. I love it. Actually, it's due to the Sure Press that I love this touch screen. I'm not even testing out the Droid...I'm sticking with the Storm2. I was a little hesitant on getting it because I heard so many bad reviews on the first model, but I then heard how much more improved the 2nd generation was...and these reviews are in fact true.

Pros:
Sure Press is awesome. Doesn't slow me down like other touch screens have
Nice big screen
Fan of the size/feel of the phone. Feels solid.
Sound is great. Clear.
Fast
Good 3G speed
Overall, just a huge fan.

Cons:
Battery life is pretty weak. I've never owned a phone that needed to be charged throughout the day like this one
Camera (specifically the flash), it's not as bright in the darker areas as it was on the Curve. Not a BAD camera, just got used to the Curve's.

Overall, Love this phone...glad I went with it.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

ambull submitted this review of the BlackBerry Storm2 9550:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

Coming from Symbian Nokia Phones, I do find that there is more limitations, and less capabilities with the BB interface, however, the Storm 2 is a pretty staightforward, easy to use phone.

I found myself installing a lot of 3rd party apps to do the things that this phone wouldn't do natively like: A) More advanced Locking options to avoid auto calling and just wreaking havoc in general from hitting 50 million buttons in my pocket B) Timed Profiles (all phones should have this yet most don't - can't figure out why) C) Applications password protections

Reception seems pretty good as much as Verizon will allow it to be. I have had one drop call at work where reception is not very good (AT&T is king where I work), and I had one other random dropped called while talking via bluetooth on the highway. This is after 3 weeks of using the phone. Calls are much clearer then with my wife's and kid's LG phones.

Battery: I get 2-3 days under normal use (Calls, texting and email) in good reception areas. However, at work, where reception is not so good, even without using the phone it will be dead by 2pm from a fresh morning charge because the phone works so hard to get reception. I now shut my phone off while at work.

I find browsing the internet to be extremely cumbersome to the point where I don't even bother, but that's not such an important function for me anyway, and plus surfing the web really drains the battery as well, so i just stay off the web mostly.

Finally, the touch screen. It works pretty well. It's responsive, but not overly so. I didn't think i would be able to get used to the touch screen, and I even almost returned the phone because of it, but I forced myself to keep using it, and now after even just 3 weeks, I'm really getting the hang of it and liking it. That said, I do wish it had a slide out keyboard, and for sure my next phone will have one.

I really am pretty happy with this phone. It's reliable, cool looking, does what it's suppose to.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

hucworld submitted this review of the BlackBerry Storm2 9550:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

Having been an original Storm user I was more than scared of messing with this device. Quiet as kept, the original Storm was the reason I left Verizon in the first place. Well after I checked myself and made a foolish mistake I decided to jump back on board and try this new toy here. It was between this and the Droid and I really wanted a keyboard after being spoiled by the Tour. After reading several online reviews I decided this device was for me. The processor on the Storm2 is surprisingly faster than any blackberry I've owned thus far. Many things weighed heavily on putting this device over such as it coming with a 16 gig card. Out the box I downloaded the new OS 5.0 and desktop manager 5.0 and I was on my way. The threaded text was nice and the device seemed to run that much faster. The battery life so far seems to be pretty respectable, the suretype took some getting use to but was easy to conquer and the device is much lighter than its originator. I vowed to never mess with another touchscreen device again but look at me now. I definitely recommend grabbing this device. The screen resolution is a beauty but the camera leaves a lot to be desired.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
