Overmann submitted this review of the HTC Touch Pro2 (CDMA):

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

Coming off my first Touch Pro, I really wanted to get this phone. Now that I have had it for some time, I can give my thoughts about how it is.

The Good:

3.8" WVGA Touchscreen: EPIC size display for a Windows phone with a mega huge resolution! This I will miss the most.

Slide-out Keyboard: This is probably the very best slideways keyboard I have ever typed on! Keys are light to press, raised enough to feel, and don't hurt your hands after literally hours of typing on it! Also, it has underscore(_)! Oh, and the screen tilts up to make seeing the screen easier!

Quad Band GSM and 3G World Roaming: Overkill much? When you unlock this baby (and you should), it can go anywhere!

528 MHz Processor: It's a good, fast CPU, and it doesn't run as hot as the first Touch Pro.

256 MB RAM: Tons of Memory, with the right ROM, you can have 140 MB of free RAM! Excellent for extended Opera Mobile browsing binges!

Modding Support: As if the first Touch Pro wasn't totally mod supported, the TP2 aka Rhodium is very popular to mod, with custom ROMs galore (including a Verizon MR2 tweak ROM that fixes the Sleep of Death problem the stock MR2 update ROM has), even including running Android 2.2 and Ubuntu 9.04 Linux from a memory card!

The Bad:

No Flash: This is a big bummer. No flash means no flashlight. Turning a white screen around is not as effective as a super bright LED.

Keyboard: The keys are too low in height, and it makes it easy to hit the key above or below the one you are typing, so you often get numbers with the top row letter5s if you are not careful.

Touch Screen: While the screen is big, it is a resistive touch display. This means screen calibration. This means trouble clicking on tiny links. At least the phone has a stylus to help those with paws touch the screen :P

Sleep of Death: The phone's hardware requires a specific startup sequence when exiting standby. Get it wrong and it goes to a coma until you battery pull. Fixing SOD is a black art few ROM makers know.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

eyeofthejew17 submitted this review of the HTC Touch Pro2 (CDMA):

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

As an owner of this phone and a cellular salesman I have sold this phone as well as used it extensively. The Htc TP2 has much potential that never fully gets realized.
Pros:
Office Mobile..nuff said
Screen display actually looks purrty nice
slide out qwerty keyboard is one of the best ive used
sound is actually pretty decent also

Cons:
should have made the touchscreen heat sensitive..pressure sensitive screens are awful for txting
Going from messaging to any other application or vice versa usually results in the phone locking up and requiring a soft reset
General locking up of the phone and awful, awful lagging throughout most of the phones functions.
Lack of applications and how expensive some are

All in all there are some things that make this phone great but the overal lagging and crashing makes this phone a pain to own. Whenever I have to peform a soft reset on the phone by taking the battery out several times a day, its just not worth it. My advice....stay away from this phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

wmsprint submitted this review of the HTC Touch Pro2 (CDMA):

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

Sprint CDMA Touch Pro 2 - WM6.5

I have pretty much gave up on HTC Sense after updating to WM6.5. Running just the stock WM6.5 without Sense is the way to go. I do miss the fancy icons and display animations from Sense, but I am no longer experiencing extreme lags, freezes, or SOD (screen of death) lockups. This phone is actually usable again.

Browser experience has improved dramatically after installing the newest version of Opera Mini. Mini comes loads up fast and is the quickest browser I came across.

Speakerphone is loud and clear.

Battery life, just like any smartphone, will barely get you through one day with casual usage. Keep a charger or extra battery handy. Nightly recharge is a must.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I got the phone in Feb. 2010. This paper wait has a pee for a processor! the more you try do with it the longer it will freeze on you. I do not recommend this phone!!! Not sure what to do now.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

jetman028 submitted this review of the HTC Touch Pro2 (CDMA):

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I got this phone on Verizon with WM 6.1. Phone was a dog and super slow. Updated to WM 6.5 2 weeks later and the phone was better but still a dog. Freeze ups, super slow you name it. I disabled the HTC sense weather app and Boom phone is working great. Disable a few other Sense options and no more hang ups or freezing like before. Granted I was getting a few freeze ups here and there, But overall the phone was working as expected. Enter SPB mobile shell 3.5. Since installing this app its like a brand new phone. Highly customizable, fast, never hangs up i mean its like a whole new OS on top of WM. I have been running for 3+ weeks now without any issues whatsoever. The only lag you get still is when you slide out keyboard and screen goes landscape. Once you learn how to use the SPB app and customize your phone you will love your TP2 again. This SPB app is awesome and really makes your phone yours with all the customization. The contacts list is a bit clunky ( better than WM but not HTC) but you can set up different custom contact screens with photos that cures that. I was ready to switch phones and now i can enjoy my TP2's keyboard. Which in my opinion is the best keyboard of any cell phone hands down. Now I can stay out of contract and wait out the Iphone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Tiggerspiglet331 submitted this review of the HTC Touch Pro2 (CDMA):

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

This is one of the worst but yet best phones I've ever had.
I started off with the Samsung Intrepid, another Windows Phone, loved it until I had to replace it 5 times in 3 weeks.
So I was switched to this phone. I'm getting another different type of phone tonight, since this phone is crap as well.
Windows needs to fix their phones!! Its SLOW! I'm so tired of having to pull the battery out 10-15 times A DAY!! I'm serious too!
Every time I get multiple texts, as in 2-4 texts, the stupid thing locks up and I have to pull the battery out! Any time I get a picture message, it locks the phone up and I have to pull the battery out! The home buttons are very slow to respond, the internet is good as long as you don't use Internet Explorer and you download Opera. I've had this phone for 4 months now and I can't wait to get rid of it. Plus, there is NO accessories for it, they have it for every other phone but not this one.
It will shut itself off a lot and you have to, again, pull the battery out and sometimes it won't fix it so you have to do it again and repeat until it powers back and stays on! Come on Windows, get with the program here!!! I want a functioning phone! I'm switching to an Android phone now, they have all the same stuff as this phone plus sooo much more!
If I were you, I'd run as fast as you can AWAY from this nightmare of a phone!!
Also, you can't use the phone as a modem like you are supposed to be able to do, it won't ever find a connection to the computer, and I've tried it on 3 computers multiple times, and nothing. :(

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

jorgephnx submitted this review of the HTC Touch Pro2 (CDMA):

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

I had this phone since it came out last year until recently when I got the evo.

In short I think this is a great business device, packed with many solid features, the hardware on this phone is very solid, but after the upgrade to widows mobile 6.5 I started to notice some performance problems. random freez ups, very slow operation at times, had to reboot more often than before, but I think most of the problems are caused by htc sense; turning sense off unleashes the phone's true power but with less eye candy.

PROS:
_solid build (dropped it many times and kept going).
_speaker(s) dual speakers makes it the best by htc, including the evo, for calls and music.
_keyboard (s), the best hardware keyboard on any phone out there and great software keyboard by htc.
_ call quality, as good as the evo on both ends.
_Reception, it almost never misses a call
_3.5 mm headphone jack
_dual microphones, great for conference calls.

CONS:
the only con for me is the software, but mainly htc sense. if you turn it off, the phone works perfect. The other option is to have a custom rom installed and it removes all of the junk that causes the problems with the stock rom, and there are plenty custom roms out there on the net, you need to be a little techy for this, but with a little research you can make this phone perfect.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

tributeml submitted this review of the HTC Touch Pro2 (CDMA):

Overall rating: 1.5 (out of 5)

Pros:
beautiful screen
nice camera
good keyboard
Htc Sense (when it stops freezing up)
loud speaker
Cons:
The problem i find with this phone is that it is confused on whether it wants to run W.M. or htc sense. The two CONSTANTLY clash and cause the phone to freeze, which then requires a battery pull.

The shortcuts between sense and Wm are ridiculous, none of them go together properly.

The power button is frustrating when you are texting on the keyboard. If you move wrong, there goes your text. thanks.

The task manager isn't in the corner (where it should be, and may i add, where there is room for it. windows mobile 6.5 decided to just leave that space blank and force you to try and find the task manager on your own through the shitbox of htc sense/windows mobile rubbish.)

The processor.. thanks for this fantastic Ferrari with the 2 stroke engine in it!"

some third party apps are required to get around the stupid "features," of the phone. some of these features include, the clock which when you turn the phone on, sets itself 1 hr & 2 mins behind current time, and if you have 2 programs running it is a choppy animation which causes the phone to run slower. Another feature is when the "New Message" icon on the sense UI bar doesn't go away, no matter what you do.

The battery, rubbish.

Browser is painfully slow, and usually doesn't respond to anything else but a stylus, and some of the time, that doesn't work unless it's zoomed in 700x.

The windows mobile contact program doesn't recognize sim card contacts.. so it basically says you have contacts when you run it, so it is impossible to search through them to find somebody.

Sometimes when you open the phone, it decides by itself it wants to open the camera/browser/phonepad/sms. (it's moody)

windows mobile marketplace.. lol

The cons make me think that HTC and Windows Mobile don't test any of their products before they put them for sale. For day to day use, this phone is incredibly frustrating.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Without using it, battery drains fast. Mine goes from 100% to 50% in about 3 hours of doing nothing but sitting on my desk, there were no calls, web browsing or texting at all. Touch screen is a pain. Navigation is bad. If you don't go to a certain icon on a regular basis, you will be searching for a long time trying to find where you were before. First day had to take it back to the store because internet explorer wasn't working. This is the 4th day and I'm going to have to take it back again due to the email sending words and symbols and nobody can understand the texts that I send from this phone. NOT WORTH THE PRICE AT ALL!!!!! Hope they are willing to take it back and give me a different one. I have owned many of them, and have always been impressed with their ability do design a solid handset.

The TP2 is a very well designed piece of hardware. Yest, it's big and yes, it's heavy, but what would one expect out of a device that is packed to the gills with bells and whistles.

Where I get confused is the fact that someone thought it would be a great idea to put Windows Mobile on this device. WM 6.5, IMO, is garbage. It is not that different from the original Pocket PC OS, and is really beginning to show it's age. It's laggy, not very customizable, boring, and an all around disappointment.

Pros:
Solid design
Great Speakerphone
Good use of real estate

Cons:
So-So battery life
Windows Mobile
Resistive Touch Screen :(

I have boxed this guy up and swapped back to my HERO until Windows 7 Phone come out...hopefully the TP2 will get the upgrade

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I have a spare and can go through both in one day.
Heavy
Screen does not have a solid feel when tilted up.
Takes sometimes a few touches to get the screen to respond,
Slow

This could have been a totally awesome PDA. A faster processor would make it the greatest thing ever. I could live with the heavy part. Overall I do like this phone and I will keep it. I have to have a manual keyboard. But like I said... Man, what this could have been.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

showstoppa submitted this review of the HTC Touch Pro2 (CDMA):

Overall rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

So as of this writing (02/04/10), this SmartPhone by HTC is Sprint's highest contractual price of any phone in the lineup. A hefty $349 price tag with a two-year agreement is hardly worth paying for a phone that doesn't even ship with WM 6.5!!

PROS:
> This device is definitely built with quality in mind. It feels sturdy and seems very durable.
> The TouchFLO responsiveness is actually the best I've seen to compare to Apple. (Meaning it still doesn't come close, but is the best effort I've seen so far).
> Excellent speakerphone. Loud, crisp and clear.
> Slide-out QWERTY keyboard is best in its class!
> Has many overall, customizable options. (Although you must search deep for them).
> Responds fairly quickly to Sprint's EVDO 3G network.
> Ability to sync your contact data with Facebook in just one action (as long as that name matches EXACTLY!)
> Battery life is not all too bad for a guzzling SmartPhone!
> Cool, practical features such as automatic speakerphone activation when placing the phone face down on a surface, or implementing the "notes" feature when removing the stylus during a phone call.
> Screen is simply amazing. Mine was flawless... not one dead/stuck pixel!!

CONS:
> As mentioned plenty of times, its size will take plenty of getting used to. (But I don't mind it at all!)
> Sound quality during a call is crisp, but can be overshadowed by a substantial "hiss" in the background. (Evident in all units I've tried.) Seems the internal amplifier and overall earpiece volume isn't adjusted properly. (Amplifier set too high.)
> Phone gets fairly hot with usage.
> Many of its good practical features suffer from lags no thanks to Windows!!
> Email pushing is not completely accurate. (i.e. have it set to every 2 hours but may not actually update for the entire day.)
> Too many bugs still exist.

Overall, a great effort by HTC, but hindered by the WM platform and definitely not worth the hefty $-tag of what should be the FLAGSHIP phone at that value.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Oh the mogul did not freeze up as much as the touch pro did.

I knew somthing was up when as soon as I bought my Touch Pro in November 2008 the very same day Sprint released it. there was a buzz on the internet about the Rhodium (TP2) that was unpleasant considering the cost of the ppc6850.

All grudges against HTC aside this is a phenonminal device!

My ONLY regret is that they did not release this 12 months earlier instead of the initial Touch Pro.

For Touch Pro, Rapheal, and Fuze users it would be a huge upgrade from your currnet device and worth the cost if you are eligible for an upgrade or your carrier will play ball with you.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Mr_Bond submitted this review of the HTC Touch Pro2 (CDMA):

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

This is my third HTC device on the Verizon network. Most recently upgraded from the HTC Touch Pro, which I would have rated at 3.5 stars. The Touch Pro 2, while not flawless, is a device you should definitely consider if having a hardware keyboard is a priority. I have owned this device for nearly four months, and have held off writing this review until the WM 6.5 upgrade released. I wanted to make sure Verizon and HTC made good on their promise before giving a glowing recommendation. While the upgrade adds a few benefits, I was very happy with the device running WM 6.1, and rarely left the comfort of HTC’s sense UI. Before upgrading I would have given the device 4.5 stars due to the buggy Bluetooth operation, but this issue appears to be fixed with the upgrade. Here is my take on the pros and cons, bearing in mind the pros are major, and the cons minor.

PROS
The device feels substantial and well built, particularly the sliding mechanism.
HTC’s Sense UI â€" An attractive and intuitive interface allowing control of nearly every phone function.
Slide out keyboard is best I’ve used. The buttons are large, well defined, and provide good tactile feedback.
Display is large and crisp.
Battery life is quite good, significantly better than the Touch Pro it replaced.
Speakerphone is phenomenal. I can use the speakerphone in my vehicle for hands free calls.
Easily syncs with exchange server.
Microsoft My-Phone

CONS
Windows Marketplace is a step in the right direction, but lags far behind competition in both quantity and quality of apps.
HTC’s application for SMS does not paste a signature onto the text. I find myself leaving the app and going to the WM SMS app which does apply the signature line.
Sleep/backlight button is positioned where it can be pressed inadvertently when typing on the slide out keyboard.
Volume rocker is poorly implemented. Very little travel and feedback leaves you wondering if you have pressed the button at all.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
