BreBre submitted this review of the Sanyo SCP-5300:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

If all you want a cell phone for is to make calls, this phone is perfect for you! You can not send any text or picture messages. The voice memos are only 18 secs. long, and it is humungous! I get ridiculed for this phone and its bulkiness every day. You are better off with this phone if you have Sprint, but don't dare try to get it from Platinumtel (prepaid company. If you do, you will have no Internet or anything entertaining such as games or ringtones. I wouldn't recommend this phone to anyone who is looking for fun in their cell phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Spartan 104 submitted this review of the Sanyo SCP-5300:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

This phone was a solid performer when I still had Sprint service awhile back. I believe it was one of the first built-in camera phones released in the U.S. It possessed a decent array of features with excellent RF performance and call quality (Thanks Sanyo!)

PROS:
*Excellent RF performance and call quality (tri-mode as well)
*Great main and outer displays
*Great build quality
*VGA camera with flash
*Bundled with 2 batteries, standard and extended

CONS:
*Early production models were notorious for having low ear piece volume (fixed with a firmware update
*Can't make or receive calls when using camera
*No speaker phone
*Not a fan of the green leds on keypad

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

The only thing that was bad-was no speaker phone, and it was on the big side, and when charging and talking on the phone-it got super hot that most of the time i didnt talk while it was charging. Other than that its a nice phone-takes nice pictures too-especially compared to the LG Verizon phne that came out around that time. I dont have this phone anymore because i hate Sprint with a passion and my phone was stolen, but it is a good phone though.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Gina-bina submitted this review of the Sanyo SCP-5300:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I purchased this phone on 4/30/03, around the time it first came out. I paid big bucks for it because it was the latest and greatest, but it was worth it. It takes awesome pictures and has been a great conversation piece whenever I have used it to take pictures. I love the design, the shape, the look, the technology.. everything!
I am disappointed to learn that it has been discontinued by Sanyo. My phone recently broke - the joint cracked and then just crumbled. Thankfully I purchased the replacement insurance, but due to the company discontinuing this model, I had to accept a different model (the 8200). I am SO disappointed!
I have been through 3 other phones and I have to say that this was by far my favorite.
For all of you who still own it I would like to say that I am JEALOUS!!!
A word about Sanyo - they make great phones with awesome reception. Don't let anyone tell you different!!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

THE PICTURE QUALITY IS GREAT AND THE FEATURES ARE VERY COOL! I ALSO REALLY REALLY LIKE SPRINT, I THINK THEY ARE THE BEST PHONE COMPNAY I HAVE EVER BEEN WITH! THEY HAVE EXCELLENT PRICES, TOTALLY AWSOME FEATURES FOR LIKE NO COST AT ALL! TEXT MESSAGING AND FAST WIRELESS WEB IS FREE WITH MOST PLANS SO THAT IS A HUGE PLUS! I wish I could have this phone with my verizon account. We use this as a store demo in all the corporate stores and for a good reason, best voice quality, lowest return ratio/repair ratio, and strongest RF perfomance. I love Sanyo, do yourself a favor and forget about the woo of the Samsung handsets!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Demonfeed submitted this review of the Sanyo SCP-5300:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I gave this a pretty high rating based off of its consumer appeal... And the fact that if your a new customer, you can get it decently cheap. However, if your an existing sprint customer... This thing is going to put you out a car payment or two. The camera feature is its best quality, it has the software to send pictures to other vision capable phones, which is a major plus. It stores the pictures much like most phones do phone numbers, which makes navigating a breeze. The phone itself is a little bulky, which isnt too bad of a problem considering what you can do with it. The signal strength is about average, and will do for most users. The lcd is pretty top notch, which makes what you have on your phone look good. The basic features work rather nicely, combining gold with steel, since most of the things are for show, but the rest is dependable and hard to damage. The only downside for this phone is not the phone itself...its the accessories... The leather cases made for the phone have a problem of making the battery burn itself out. There is a small pin at the top right that the case blocks, so when you close your phone, instead of turning the lcd off itself, your phone now is using its backlight and everything which can drain the battery. The battery is another thing, its easy for it to fall out, the encasing for it has a weak release pin which means if you pull it out of your pocket the wrong way, your phone is turning off. Nothing a holster cant fix, but its still a problem. Overall, its a very reliable phone, plenty of glitter and gold, and lots of fun for younger consumers. Worth it if you have the money to spend. If not, go for the 8100.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Doomgoggles submitted this review of the Sanyo SCP-5300:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

Until 3 weeks ago, the 5300 was the absolute king of cameraphones. Now, its a toss-up between it and the Samsung A-600. However, the superior signal strength of the Sanyo mandated that I purchase it, so as to be able to use it where I live -- 2 miles outside of mapped Sprint PCS coverage. The fact that it works here is amazing. I've owned an LG4NE1, a Samsung N400, and various phones from AT&T and nothing has had anywhere near the reception.

My only complaints about this phone (and they are minor): earpiece and ringer are not as loud as Samsung or new Sanyo 8100, no universal charging jack, and I can't find a decent case for it. oh well...

So far this phone has not once crashed or locked up (unlike the Samsung) nor have I dropped a call in a well serviced area (unlike all AT&T phones). The screen quality can only be matched by the A600. The A620 is close but its not quite as large.

Staying with this phone until Sanyo or Hitachi releases a tri-mode flip phone with camera that has better volume and more memory.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

The color screen is great and also the camera. It's one the best phones i had ever saw.

The good: camera with flash and polyphonic ringtones and color screen.

The bad: no speakerphone or bluethooth!

Overall, I would get this phone, but it's from sprint and sprint's plans are kind of pricey. I would rather get the Panasonic GU87 or the Samsung V205.

Stanto submitted this review of the Sanyo SCP-5300:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

Great phone. However Sprint service always has dropped calls. The problem with the phone is that the older version you could download pictures and ringers from your computer without having to pay for internet services or the cost of the ringers.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

glosaul submitted this review of the Sanyo SCP-5300:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

I just bought the 5300 and the only fault that I find is that for the price it should have a speaker phone. The only tech issue I have is the volume from the ear piece could be louder and even by adjusting the settings to the highest, it still is not loud enough.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

msrandall submitted this review of the Sanyo SCP-5300:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I had the 5150 for awhile and because the Samsung a500 was hyped so much I bought into it. I was happy for 3 months. Then I began to have problems with reception. I waited the storm out until the Sanyo 5300 was released. I have to say this phone is hard (as teenagers say). I love this phone. The screen is bright and the graphics just jump out at you. The reception is great...but with Sanyo thats what you get. I have used 808 minutes since I have gotten the phone...not 1 dropped call yet...I wont review the camera options...you know them. The upgrade does cure the low receiver volume. The only con is the midi ringers are a little low but for that I use my vibrate option too. If you have the money go for it ...you wont be disappointed....As a sprint sales rep I am proud to have such a great phone in our line up.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

jrcunningham submitted this review of the Sanyo SCP-5300:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

I work for a Radio Shack ranked in the Top 20 in the country, and as a result, I've seen nearly every Sprint phone made.

This phone destroys the rest of them.

So far this year, I've been through an N200, A400, A500, N400, LG 5350, Sanyo 4900, and I bought my Sanyo 5300 today.

All I can say is WOW. The reception blew away my A500. The two batteries are exceptional (except there's no way to charge them simultaneously). The camera destroys the camera released by Samsung. I don't care how new (or old) your current phone is -- if you don't have a Sanyo 5300, you don't deserve to have your Sprint PCS service.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

djsayegh submitted this review of the Sanyo SCP-5300:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

hello just a little comment I wanted to make about the ear piece volume. The volume itself is not bad, what the true problem is sanyo seems to put the ear piece very high on the flip phone and when we puting the phone to our ear you end up blocking the sound wit your ear. try aiming the ear piece to the center of your ear and not to hold it so high. I had the same problem with the 5150. Well the rest of the features are what I expected but I didn'texpect the built in camera the be as good as it is. flash/digital zoom/decent resolution. and legendary sanyo reception.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
