JimInNorthwest submitted this review of the Samsung Delve R800:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

I don't have this phone as of yet. I've been doing a lot of review reading, searching, etc. while deciding what my next phone purchase will be. I'm almost positive it will be a Delve. I like the features that I'm reading that this phone has. This will be my first touch screen phone.

I currently have a prepaid phone, but I hate the reception in my home. I don't even have one bar most of the time. Another thing I hate about what I have now, is the automated 411 service.

I will write a review for this phone sometime after buying it in less than 2 weeks.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

DCash submitted this review of the Samsung Delve R800:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

Pros: good all around user interface. Decent internet speed (with US Cellular) good speaker quality (both speaker phone/music player). GOOD battery life.

Cons: shuts down randomly while receiving multiple text messages/ browsing the internet and receiving a text message at the same time.

Whoever talks down on the battery life doesn't know what their talking about. While the actual bars do go down quite quick(within a day) the last bar last a LIFETIME. I used my Delve with no charge on 1 bar (battery life) for 4 days. While it might deceive you with the rapid loss of batter bars, for whatever reason the last bar WILL last at the LEAST 3 days. This is all around a great phone for the price

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

TK711 submitted this review of the Samsung Delve R800:

Overall rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

Pros: Nice Camera, Nice Mp3 Player, Some decent included apps & widgets, size & weight (fits perfectly into my side-pocket on my jeans for quick & easy access)

Cons: Battery Life, handwriting to text (a joke), not customizable, Custom Ringtones nearly blocked out, crappy navigator, internet touchscreen.

Starting with the pros, I do like the included apps, the ones that I consider my favorites are the mini-player, and the myCast weather. The size, shape, & weight of the phone somehow just perfectly fit right into my side pocket in my carpenter jeans, even with the hard case on. That I think is just co-incidental.

Now onto the cons, the delve is a battery monster, then again I have a laptop which does no better. The second and most recent disappointment is no ability to add custom applications or widgets. If there is a way I haven't found out how yet. I keep in touch with friends who are not located in the U.S (i.e a good friend in Malaysia) in my opinion this phone is not a fully functioning communication device. The custom ringtones were nearly blocked out, but with my persistent attempts I was able to find a way to send custom ringtones to my phone. Another problem is the Navigator, this one really gets my goat sometimes. More or less, let's just say that I was attempting to get to a meeting on time & needed directions on the fly, since Google Maps doesn't work with my phone, I needed to resort to the Navigator. About 100 ft from my destination it told me to turn left & my destination would be on my right. I turned left, Looked to my right & saw nothing but trees. I kept traveling until I ran out of road. Turned around & found my destination was actually a RIGHT TURN & to my left. I double checked it several times & it sucks. It also is laggy & will sometimes scream at me that I'm off track when I'm traveling straight. The last con is the handwriting to text box. No one thought it wise to make it adaptive?? I NEVER use this function for my phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Its true what they say; that us cellular has gud plans, but Shi**ty phones.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

levithan submitted this review of the Samsung Delve R800:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

first off, its a pain to use the touch screen to text, even after you calibrate the screen, scrolling through web pages is a nightmare. On some pages up is down BUT that might change half way down the page, IF it does not link you to something that you don't want.

PROS:
cam is not bad, and the camcorder option is neat, no trouble getting pics or music on to phone, signal strength has been satisfactory. Music player is fairly loud for one, any thing louder you might as well just bought a boom box.

CONS:

1) As far as the battery goes they say that "no, the battery will not get a memory" meaning that if you don't let the phone completely discharge itself to the point that it won't turn on long enough to shut its self off, you run the risk of the battery retaining a charge life equal to the length of time you use it. IE you talk for a hour then plug it in, you battery will only last a hour. Ive gone "by the book" on this as i have with every phone iv had, my Nextel lasted three days, and i use the direct connect and phone constantly for work. Never had this problem. The delve is a battery vampire.

2) The face can scratch fairly easily, freezes when trying to text, then you get your mords wixed in the process, plus letters you didn't want. the voice dialing is not the greatest, even speaking VERY clearly with no word punctuation still has to pick a random three and you have to wait for it to get the one you want. Tried listing my contacts as a spoken number, no difference, how else can you save three or eight?, not five two and seven.

3) The key pad seem to still lock the dialer when checking v-mail, even though setting is listed as off.

Now after only six months, Verizon has bought Alltel and now my two hundred dollar phone is now a glorified MP3 and digi camera. with no service and no carrier.

Over all, if you have a high level of tolerance, extra money to blow, or just want the bells and whistle that you prob wont use,
it's just a musical paper weight.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Sondra submitted this review of the Samsung Delve R800:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I am a major phone fanatic. I work for a cellular company and I am constantly getting a new phone. I got alltel's samsung delve the first day it came out. I personally think that if you are interested in getting a smart phone but don't know if you want to take the leap into a more complicated phone the delve is a great option. Very simple to use.

Pros:
-Simple to use
-2.0 camera
-can get free ring tones through Tex messages (every delve I have sold has been able to get free ring tones through Tex messages. I have read some reviews where other people haven't been able to but lucky me and my customers we have been able to)
-Huge screen
-easy Internet excess
-email

Cons:
-Battery life (I have to charge mine before I go out at night or make for sure I have my car charger with me. overall no big deal)
-Can not edit some stuff on the Internet (big down flaw for the websites I use)
-Occasionally Freezes up ( Honestly this is not a big deal either because every smart phone I have ever had freezes up occasionally. Just pop the battery out for a few seconds and our good to go)

I would recommend this phone to my friends and family!!!!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

avatri submitted this review of the Samsung Delve R800:

Overall rating: 3 (out of 5)

I admit that I am a cell phone junkie and always like to fiddle with the latest cell phones. I am also conservative in nature and don't go for phones that are overkill.

For my taste the Delve is a great phone. The TouchWiz interface is a great upgrade from the Instinct I had prior to the Delve.

Pros
> Easy to use
> It makes sense
> Packed with fun features
> Delivers on what it promises

Cons
> Battery Life
> External Plugs
> Limited sync w/ outlook and music

If the Airplane feature is turned on which leaves the phone on but it turns of the radio for (incoming and outgoing calls) the phones battery will last almost two weeks. But of course we all want to use it for what it was intended for "as a cell phone".

I like the phone but I'm gonna have to break up with it and look for something younger and more attractive that can last.

John Angel @ Avatri

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

MellisaAlltel submitted this review of the Samsung Delve R800:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

I work in the Wireless business and thought this was going to be one of Samsungs best so far..... Not even close. When I insert my memory card, the phone does continuous power cycles until I remove the card. Also, if I change any of my message settings, the phone won't hold my outbox until I do a reset on the phone.

I do like that it's a touch screen, but they battery life is terrible. And trying to text on the qwerty is a pain in the butt.

The phone doesn't have a built in stylus holder, so it's easy to loose it.

The camera switches to camcorder if you hold the button to long, which can get very irritating.

Trying to hold the phone with your shoulder is almost impossible because it slides and moves easily.

Any time you drop it, you will feel like having a heart attack because of the screen.

It's not a bad phone, but it was a MAJOR disappointment.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

bobby2284 submitted this review of the Samsung Delve R800:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

The phone itself is really nice. I liked the way almost everything worked on it. My main complaint about the phone, at least the alltel version, is completely locked down. Using about every method I can come up with to get ringtones on the phone for free seem not to work. You cant save from a text message, email, download direct via the web, or access via memory card and that is a key factor for me. I like having current custom ringtones and I am not the type to pay money for them. The Delve's software is locked up tight like for knox, lol. Also it comes with an included usb cable, which will not let u access content on the phone and I had to mess with for a while to even be able to access my media card. It's just not what its portrayed as, which is a smartphone, and yes you do have to pay the smartphone price on the bill so I would expect to be able to do anything I can do on a blackberry or windows mobile phone. Realiztically its another kids toy in the Iphone category, altho I still think I would take it over the Iphone since it does have almost anything you can look for in a phone, they just make u pay for it. All in All its great for multimedia text pict video messaging etc. Just wish it had the abilities or customization I am used to in a phone at this point. As a final not people have complained about reception and battery life. I would say these are two of its strong suits, battery lasted well over a day, which is great for a media phone being used in that respect, and reception on it was really good anywhere I went, even places I previously had been losing calls.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

AndyB submitted this review of the Samsung Delve R800:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

I am an Alltel customer and have always been disappointed with the choice of phones that Alltel had. However the Delve looked like a solid phone and I really had no choice but to renew my contract. I decided to go with the Delve and have had for about 2 weeks now.

I am a current college student, I use my phone for the social side (pretty heavy, 4000 texts, decent amount of talk time, and a good amount of time on the web), and I also have to use a good deal of voice for where I work. And I have to say the Delve has been much better then I thought it would be.

Pros:
-Music player (sounds great)
-3.5 head phone jack
-smooth texting
-HTML web works amazing for me. It is kind of a point of view thing as the phone does not srink the page to fit the phone, but that is how I like it.
-GREAT touch screen, I almost always select what I mean to select.
-Solid Camera (its only a 2.0 but it looks/works perfect for me)
-Wigets
-Text messages can be displayed in a Chat format
-Phone lock works well, haven't called anyone from my pocket
-Over all everything works very smooth for me which is really the biggest factor in a touch screen phone.

Cons-
-short life on the battery is annoying but usually lasts me about a day, so I can get around a charger. So I wish it would last long, but for my heavy use I was surprised it lasted that long.
-Ascending ringer is very annoying. It only does this on phone calls not text messages. However I've been told they are working on an update for it.

The Cons for me aren't really cons, just more of small things that annoy me. So far I love this phone and I am hoping it moves over well to the Verizon service.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I think that I would have to buy an extended battery for it at some point, as I travel around the State of Montana, (Montana is the fourth largest state in landmass, and I need this to last me on a long bus trip.)

Second, I have to get used to the menus that exist on this or any interactive touchscreen phone, (this is a big ticket purchase for me, as I am used to cell phones that do not do as much as this one does.) I can get used to this at some point and I need to not be so stubborn about this, however, I have to make this comment....

I like the features for the most part, and my complaints are mostly due to not being familiar with this type of phone...

I am happy with the call quality of the calls and the volume, if it is a little loud for my taste...

Thanks for letting me share my opinion, for what it is worth... :-D

VB

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

cellgirl2000 submitted this review of the Samsung Delve R800:

Overall rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

First off.. this phone is 199.99 with alltel then a 100.00 Rebate, makes the phone 99.99. Still unsure about this phone.. Working in the cell business I have the chance to play with all the phones. I currently have a Blackberry on my work line and was going to purchase this phone for my personal line. Well I actually did purchase it, I bought it on saturday and returned it on monday. The battery life sucked! The first day I had it I charged it 2 times, which was okay bc I played with it all day. The second day however I did not, I sent just a couple days and made no voice calls and did no internet and by the end of the day the battery was almost gone. Also if you use the web on the blackberry I dont think you will be happy with the web on this phone. You have to scroll over to read then back over to start at the next sentence. I like being able to look at the screen and read without having to scroll across.. if there is a setting to fix that, it would be better, but I have not came across that yet. Next is the email. I like being alerted on the blackberry when I have an email instead of having to go on there and keep checking it. If im going to pay for a smart choice plan I want a smart phone.. So guess the only thing I really liked about the phone was the typing on the touch screen and the mp3 player.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Pretty much the same comments as all the other reviews. Yes, the battery life sucks.

But what you don't see in any of the reviews is the ringer volume issues. And if there is a way to fix this please let me know.... No matter what ringer volume you have set (I normally have mine on high) it starts out on the lowest and works its way to the volume that you have selected. Not very practical when you have the phone in another room. Usually by the time I hear it and get to it, the phone has switched to voice-mail. I read the reasoning behind this on the forums and it seems logical, but we should have the option to disable this.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

My problem is that Alltel pushes the Smartchoice packages on the customer and it is no necessary. An unlimited data plan is a good idea, you can get that for $9.99 a month. I am not a big texter, but you can get that and unlimited data for $19.99 a month.
I know the Smartchoice option is a selling point to get the Delve at certain price, but come on! Enough is enough, especially if you have been a loyal Alltel customer for over 10 years. If I chose the Smartchoice plan, my bill would be $69.99 plus tax instead of $39.99 or $49.98 with unlimited data. $20 bucks is $20 bucks.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

slyder submitted this review of the Samsung Delve R800:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

I've had the Delve (U.S Cellular) for almost 3 weeks. It's my first touch screen phone so it took a while to get used to. Once I got the sensitivity dialed in I really liked the phone a lot. I am not a key-pad fan, so I love the fact that you can use T9 to text. Big drawback is that the T9 on this phone has no memory. You have to capitol manually after periods most of the time??? which is a big pain. The camera is good, but the lack of zoom and flash is a real bummer. Getting around the web is a chore on some days and a pleasure on others. The music player is awesome. I have a 2GB card with over 800 songs on it and the speaker on the phone isn't bad at all. I love how easy it is to use, it even has a shortcut for the main screen. THE BATTERY LIFE IS HORRIBLE. With normal use I have to charge the phone constantly, sometimes 4 times in a day.

All in all I think it is a very good phone. If the battery was better and I could use it in my own home I would keep it.

I like so much about this phone but I am returning it because I don't get service IN MY HOUSE. I live in a major city and can only use my phone on my porch. I can't blame the Delve for that it is a total U.S Cellular problem.
I was going to get the T-Mobil Samsung Behold because of the 5 MP camera but it has gotten horrible reviews for its camera being so slow and having to be so still. So after a week of research I have decided to go with the LG Dare from Verizon. It got Consumer Reports top spot and I read over 300 reviews praising the phone

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

just.bub submitted this review of the Samsung Delve R800:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

I recently purchased the Delve a couple of weeks ago and have thus far been very pleased with it. I like the customizable, click-and-drag widget bar and the quick access bar at the top. The free navigation, TV, radio, and MyCast weather service are also nice features. The sleek design, full touch screen interface, and QWERTY keyboard add an updated feel to the phone. The ability to adjust the sensitivity of the touch screen and the amount of vibration just add to the seemingly endless features.

However, it's easy to talk this phone up and become distracted by the postcard ability while viewing images or the full HTML browser. While these features are what make this phone so attractive, there are substantial downsides. The battery life is not the greatest, for it must be charged daily. However, I think it's short life has been exaggerated a bit. While browsing will reduce the battery life drastically, you have to remain connected to the Internet for extended amounts of time in order for a mandatory recharge. I've noticed that the battery will remain on two bars for quite some time before reducing to one, and then even more time before it flashes.

however, the inability to add a word on the t9 feature is a bit aggravating. The service could be better, but is nothing to complain about (alltel).

all in all, this phone has done nothing but surpass all my expectations for a full touch phone. a must have for those looking for something different.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

715matty submitted this review of the Samsung Delve R800:

Overall rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

I got this phone a week ago and overall I am not impressed with Samsung. I am coming from an LG ax 380, and I got better signal with my LG than my samsung. Usually with Alltel you can get signal anywhere in western wisconsin. But this phone has disappointed me. The phone constantly locks up playing the simplest of games, I guess i will start with the pros which you all know
PROS
- Touch Screen
- Slim Design
- Qwerty keypad
- Widgets.
- Picture quality
CONS
- Phone locks up.
- Texting can be a real bother.
- Signal is very poor with this phone. You can put my LG right next to this phone and the LG would get better signal hands down. Both phones are from the same carrier.
- Battery life is very poor. Like many reviews before mine this phone can go from hero to zero in about 5-6 hours.

All in all, i guess the pros i have listed out weigh the cons, but the cons that i have listed are very annoying. Unfortunately this phone has been a short lived experience with me.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
