Overmann submitted this review of the HTC Touch Pro (CDMA):

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

I replaced my Samsung Saga with one of these, as the price for one came down a good deal. Note that I had the Verizon Wireless XV6850 Touch Pro, so it only came with 192 MB of RAM.

The Good:

VGA Display: Larger screen resolution means better quality images and the ability to fit more web page on the screen.

Slide-out Keyboard: If you get a Windows Mobile phone, it MUST have a physical keyboard or you will go insane trying to use the built-in one.

3.2 MP Auto Focus Camera with Flash: The Flash is a huge boon, and lets you use the phone as a flashlight. The flash LED is super bright!

528 MHz Processor: This really gives Windows Mobile a speed boost!

Modding Support: Believe it or not, there is a lot of custom ROM makers out there that can slim and trim the OS (even I eventually made my own ROM just for my phone) and add functionality it didn't have before (such as Youtube and Windows Mobile 6.5 and rapid charging, though rapid charge driver risks burning up the charge port).

The Bad:

Keyboard: Hard to press the letters, this isn't as killer as the Saga, but it still causes thumb pain after a while of typing on it. Also, no underscore key.

Heat: The high speed processor is very hot running. The flash also is a cooker.

Stock OS and RAM: Because the Verizon version has less RAM than the others, you have 40-50 MB of RAM to play with. That doesn't sound too bad, but both stock ROM and most custom ROMs go overboard with features, and this can bring it down to 10-20 MB. A clean ROM with no HTC dress-ups can net you 45-70 MB of free RAM, which makes Opera Mobile last longer on web browsing. Oh, and no Flash Player.

Slider Design: The spring is very stiff, and the construction is not up to spec to it. Months after I sold my Touch Pro, the next owner tells me the screen is having problems now. This is inevitable in a slider design.

The Ugly:

It's a decent phone to start out with, and a fun one to learn to MOD on. However, there are better options for Windows Mobile.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Watched movies, videos and even printed pdf files off the phone.

bittersideofyou submitted this review of the HTC Touch Pro (CDMA):

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

I was very excited when I finally could upgrade my phone, I carefully choose this one. I did a lot of research and read a lot of reviews. I decided to try it anyway which was a big mistake.

I went through 3 phones from Sprint. The first one when charging got so hot it actually left welts in my hand. After about a week I decided it was defective. I got the new one and it was just filled with bugs, the screen would scramble when rotated, it would freeze all the time. not to mention the battery life lasted about 4 hours. It came to the point where I had to send it back. The third one I got had less bugs but the battery still was horrible. I would charge it all day as soon as I would take it off within in ten minutes it was down a bar. It let me down many times. and this is with minimum use mind you.

The touch flow over lay was cute at first but became to annoying to be practical, for instance when you would open the program window, the way the grid is laid out its hard to touch the screen and not accidentally open a program. there is no where to put your finger to flick up or down without pressing a program. This version of Touch Flow just is not customizable enough to be useful. I actually ditched it and ran SPB mobile shell and it worked just as well.

Pros:
big touch screen
nice keyboard
3.2 mega pixel camera

Cons:
Horrible battery life (4 hours!)
very very slow
buggy
Touch flow
thickness
No 3mm built in head set

for me it was the battery life and buggyness
killed it for me.. I actually went to the Palm Treo Pro and even though it has less ram it is pretty quick and very thin.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

The replacement worked fine for about 2 weeks then started to randomly power off for no reason, Went back and got another replacement. This replacement right away some of the buttons did not work and the screen did not flip when slid open for keyboard use, Went back the next day and got a brand new one again only this time I had it for around 3 months with just simple issues like having to carry 2 extra batteries everywhere I went cause it needs 3 to get through a whole day of constant use and random freezing, then it started to shut off whenever I sent out a text message. I am now looking forward to returning the phone for good!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I don't really expect all that much out of my phone as far as battery is concerned, I want to get one whole day of light to moderate use, thats all. With WiFi, GPS, and Bluetooth turned off it would still be dead before lunch no matter how little I used it. I am not always able to be at my desk and leave the phone plugged in, I need to be able to be out and about during many days. This phone was just never able to do that.

Stability seemed to be good, and features were wonderful. I really wanted this phone to work out for me and tried my best to like it.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Dukebaby submitted this review of the HTC Touch Pro (CDMA):

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

Overall the phone is packed with a lot of features. However in the end there are a lot more cons than pros.

Things I dislike. To do anything it seems there are always a lot of steps to take. Take the camera for example. If I want to quick snap a pick I have to go to scroll to the camera section then tell it I want to take a pic.

The camera quality is good for still pictures other than that it is terrible and the response time on taking a pic is FOREVER.

The battery life on this is horrendous for me. I can maybe make half a day with out even talking on it much.

I would not recommend this phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Based on some of the reviews, I had low expectations.

Pros:
-Screen
-Call Quality
-Volume
-size
-Key Board
-WM

Cons:
-Slow
-Battery Life

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

dictum9 submitted this review of the HTC Touch Pro (CDMA):

Overall rating: 0 (out of 5)

1) The battery capacity is too low at only 1340 mAh, needs to be at least 4-5 times greater to accomodate the drain. Needs I think 5,000 mAh or better yet 6,000 mAh capacity.
It's basically a mini-laptop and needs far more than 5 Whr that comes with the tiny stock battery, I think at least 20-25 Whr. I don't care if the phone has to be twice as big, I want functionality, not compactness.

On stock battery, I get less than 8 hours until it completely drains, not acceptable. And that's not doing anything other than ActiveSync and a few text mesgs. f you use GPS or anything else like web, it gets drained in no time at all.

I carry spare cells with it.

The largest aftermarket cell is 3,000 mAh and is made by Mugen but it makes the device much thicker, looks like a brick. Still just a patch and a afterthought.

2) The overall quality is hit and miss, I went through about 3 of them and this is not uncommon. Radio failure, LCD failure. The plastic borders will crack.
I keep hearing about keyboard failure but did not experience it yet.... In the local Sprint store, they have this sign, something like "Be ready for anything", ain't that the truth. Every time it's a new interesting failure you've never seen before.

3) The OS is junk, unresponsive, locks up.

4) Stylus falls out, I put tape around it.

5) The stock case is junk, upgrade ASAP or you will lose it or drop it at least.

6) If it falls on the pavement, gets beat up pretty badly. Needs to be shockproof and water proof instead of pretty shiny toy not fit for even normal usage. Drop it and it flies apart.

7) Don't like touch screen at all. Will turn itself on in the pocket and start doing things like calling people, make changes, like turn alarm off. Then you take out and try to figure out what happened.

8) The keyboard is too small.

9) Absolutely worthless on speaker.

10) The heat issue. It overheats sometimes and won't charge.

PROs:

The screen resolution is impressive.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

jordonshaw submitted this review of the HTC Touch Pro (CDMA):

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I've been a blackberry user for years! I always thought that I would never leave Blackberry. Then, as I got to researching some of the options that Windows Mobile has, such as Remote Desktop, I just couldn't help but try it. I have to say, I'm so glad that I did! This phone is nothing short of amazing! Keep in mind, I do contract work for several companies and the ability to remote desktop directly from my phone, is awesome!!! Of course that's not all, the ability to take a picture of a business card and have it added to your address, amazing! I am very impressed with this phone!

Of course, it couldn't be the answer to all prayers, so there are some cons for the phone. Let me detail them out here:

Cons:
Finger prints everywhere! I have the Verizon model, so I don't know if the other carriers are the same, but there are finger prints all over the place.

When you go to the email preview, you can often read the whole message, without opening it up; however, it will stay marked as unread until you do actually open it up.

The battery runs down somethings pretty quickly, but this is probably due to the fact that I can't keep my hands off it!

Pros:
Remote Desktop! This is awesome

Web browser! Very good for a mobile device.

Over the air sync with Exchange server.

TouchFLO 3D is a great interface!

I could go on an on for days on the pros, but this form is limited on number of characters!

If you have a Blackberry, or any other phone, buy this one! You won't be sorry! The cons that I mentioned are very minor compared to all the features this phones has! Most of the cons are due to my OCD to keep things neat! These might not bother other people!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I must say, I am not disappointed. I went from the Palm Centro to this device and it's easily one of my better decisions this year.

PROS:
-Large, Sensitive Tough screen
-Great Speakerphone
-Best Cellular camera I have ever seen. (*better than the Behold's)
-FUll QWERTY keys make texting so much easier.
-Preloaded with Opera, one of the better web browsers.
-Strong graphixcs interface.
-WiFi...enough said.

And of course, CONS:
-Slows down quite a bit if too many resources (aka, more than 3) drag the OS down.
-Standard smartphone battery....about a recharge a day.
-Complex until you personalize it.
-PIcture mail could be better, but it's alright.

If you are considering a smart phone, lok no further. There you go, short and sweet.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

mstahl submitted this review of the HTC Touch Pro (CDMA):

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

Got this phone right after it came out. Replaced my diamond. Overall I am pleased with the phone. I think I'll hold onto it longer than most of the other phones I have had.

Pros:
slide out keypad
nice screen
speaker phone
camera is awesome(took a picture of a building while driving at about 15 mph, and a car on the opposite side of road got in the way driving about 35 mph. It looked like i took a still picture)
Panoramic photo's are cool
All the normal stuff
Decent mp3 playback
Voice recognition software fun to mess with
Audible alerts/message playback

Cons:
Battery kinda sucks
I had a row of dead pixels, replaced a week later by sprint repair store, replacement seems like something is always running, because it is always warm and extremely slow
Sprint's picture mail basically sucks. Need to install a third party program that works better than any I have ever seen
Stupid HTC and their weird plugs/headphone jack

I like the phone, might splurge and get the touch 2 or whatever it's called, if it's available? Wish sprint allowed self serve phone replacement still. Ah well.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

issai submitted this review of the HTC Touch Pro (CDMA):

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

My scoop: Heavy business-oriented mobile warrior who likes SPRINT's Everything plan and disagree that SPRINT's stigma of "bad CSR's" is 100% applicable anymore-- besides, I barely call CSR. Desparate Palm fan hoping the Pre would replace my 755p which, aside from frequent reboots, has served well with the following: external KB, OS's design for 1-handed use, FREE tethering, robust PIM functions. Looking at least to improve web browsing and remote email client user experience- 755p's 90's UI and API fails here. Read initial Pre reviews and decided to let early adopters 1st have it-- I'll give it a year to clean up HW and SW bugs (Synergy & charge port issues, etc.). "Storm 2"- cool but dislike BB's addt'l svc costs on top of Sprint plan. iPhone3GS- great but 1) not multitasking (unsure MT is feasible on such a small form factor)+AT&T svc+plans blow. Noticed coworker hacked his Sprint HTC Mogul with huge # of apps and some iPhone-like usability. Used to have PocketPC & older WinMo versions which made my skin crawl badly e.g. Treo 700w.

Enter HTC TOUCH PRO.

PROS:Rich UI,TouchFlo 3D resembles iPhone & makes WinMo less irritating,WinMo6.1 big ups over prev. versions even w/ TouchFlo off, huge hacker and appdev support, multitask OS,Opera Mobile+Outlook=finally can use web w/ dignity, loads of input options & external KB rocks for my large fingers (the keys are huge!),GPS,Wifi, neat little tricks but few which add business-usage value

CONS:User experience still somewhat awkward- design not as much geared for mobility as Palm OS,but much improved over previous WinMo;OS's feedback to user input "lags" compared to other smartphone OS,(last 2 are typical of WinMo),no external headset jack(what if my BT headset goes missing?),call volume & quality regardless of output somewhat less than 755p,needs hard Win+OK keys, lack of key shortcut assignments, battery life.

Coming from 755p, Touch Pro takes getting used to. 2nd day today-- so far I'm generally liking it!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

chocolateman85006 submitted this review of the HTC Touch Pro (CDMA):

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

I've had more PDA phones than Paris Hilton has had lovers. With that being said, I'll dive straight into this:

Pros:
3.2 megapixel camera and video.
300MB of onboard memory. (Had it not been for pics/vids and music, I wouldn't have needed a memory card).
Lots of RAM. More than I've seen in any phone ever!
Unlike other Windows Mobile phones, it can be viewed on my laptop or desktop WIHOUT using Active Sync.

Cons:
Fingerprint magnet!
STILL slow! Even with all the extra memory, it's still slow as hell!!
No wi-fi switch
No "OK" button
Keypad, albeit 5 rows are nice, is way too small.
The circle button (or whatever it's called) is not user friendly.
Battery sucks! Should I have my phone on the charger 3 times a day?!
No separate headset jack. HTC needs to go back to the old way.

My point: The 6800 is much better for me. Maybe you'll have a different experience with the Touch Pro (it was with Alltel, in case you wanted to know). My eyes are currently on the Treo Pro.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

MegaWhy submitted this review of the HTC Touch Pro (CDMA):

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

I tried the HTC Touch Pro and it was not a good experience for me. My XV6800 actually is more touch responsive than this phone. I think touch screens have a long way to go to be like an iPhone.

The web experience was good. I thought 3G speeds were pretty good. But overall, sometimes the phone worked well, and then it would hang. The screen rotation was sometimes slow. The keyboard slides out the opposite direction you would expect and was unevenly back-lighted. Key travel was barely average and varied. I found the keyboard to be at best equal to my XV6800. BTW It is not as good as the HTC Fuze's keyboard.

Sure I could have hacked the phone, probably improved the speed, but please..I shouldn't have to do that.

Call clarity was subpar, and that is unacceptable.

Fianlly the smudging was unbelieveable. I read the reviews, but thought they were exaggerating. No they are understating the issue. The phone looked grimey after a few minutes of use....and I work in an office!

I can not recommend this phone. I sent mine back and cancelled Verizon Service.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Blueanteater submitted this review of the HTC Touch Pro (CDMA):

Overall rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

My main complaint is that At&t's version is smaller and it's the same phone. Ergonomically, it is also much improved with the diamond like, angled back. On the other hand though, the keyboard is much sturdier on the pro than on the diamond.

Additionally, the battery life is lacking. One day is all that I would want, but it doesn't even last that. The extended back might be a good option, but the phones already pretty heavy.

And I ordered the body glove for mine. It rocks, felt on the inside and the case is a mix of hard and soft.

Overall Pros
Windows Mobile 6.1, that say it all...
Keyboard
Touch Flo/Sensitivity
Stylus is nice
Camera and screen Resolution

Cons
Size/weight
Battery life
Windows Mobile... somedays...

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

It has the remote desktop which i use all the time for work.

The first issue, phone #1, it stopped vibrating so when it was on vibrate i missed all calls and texts.

Phone #2 didnt even last a week and the screen went out, totally black!

Phone #3 didnt even last 2 weeks, another issue with the screen. this time it all went jibberish and crossed up and should not make out what was being displayed.

Phone #4 this one really pissed me off as i lost EVERYTHING! This POS just randomly shut off and would not power back on. replaced battery, plugged in, did factory reset nothing.

Phone #5 now this one i am currently using the slide out keyboard quit working. lights up but will not type. I called the Alltel and will be swapping it out for the Palm Treo Pro to give that a try as it is the only one comparable in price.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
