X-Sprint submitted this review of the Motorola Renegade V950:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

This is the phone I have been waiting for. It is the best phone I have ever owned. I worked for Sprint for just over two years and it is the best phone that I saw during that time period.

PROS: Solid phone. Good camera. All the features. Is what it is.

CONS: When the battery dies it beeps REALLY LOUD. This loud beep goes on for hours. Everybody around you will hate you. It beeps when you are using it. When the phone is up to your ear it hurts! There is no option in the settings to turn the beep off. I have checked. I hated it so much I called Motorola and complained. They verified that there is no way to stop it or turn it down.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

jerry1876 submitted this review of the Motorola Renegade V950:

Overall rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

I purchased this phone in March of 09 it is now August. The Phone has burned through 6 chargers and an extended battery. Now the Phone will not charge at all. What is worse is that I purchased the same phone for my 12 year old son in February and he is now having the same problems. It has a very short battery life and seems to have problems with the charges these chargers were all Motorola chargers not the cheaper generic ones. I would not recommend this phone to anyone I work in the construction type business and this is the worst Motorola product I have owned in 20years of cell phones.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

bry1023ny submitted this review of the Motorola Renegade V950:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

So... you need a phone that's going to last and stand the test of time. You want rock-solid dependability, durability, and performance. Well you've found it in the Renegade V950!

The Basics:
Call quality is excellent, earpiece volume can go very loud with no distortion. Speakerphone quality is excellent, volume can wake up the dead with no distortion here either. Ringtones are plentiful and again can go ear-piercingly loud if needed. Signal strength is excellent, I would say above average than most Sprint phones. If your phone isn't in a coverage area, it will enter into roaming automatically (moving from one mode to the other is relatively quick).

Build:
In a word, muscular. RAZR styling, with the ruggedness of rubber, and military spec to make it withstand rain, dust, vibration, etc. The flip closes with absolute authority. Beneath it is a chrome bezel highlighting the high-resolution display. The keypad is well-spaced apart allowing for easy dialing and basic texting (lights up in blue).

Camera, Video, Music Player, Bluetooth:
Great resolution and quality. There is the included MicroSD card situated beneath the battery that will store all of your photos and videos. Haven't tried the music player or bluetooth but I'd recommend a matching Motorola headset.

Battery:
Lots of complaints but there is an easy solution. Go to the settings for "Data Access". Turn this feature "Off". When you do, battery life is on par with any other phone similar in class. Also turn off Bluetooth and Location if you don't use these features to help improve battery life further. The reason the standby time is so short is that this being a Nextel walkie-talkie it constantly talks with the network and requires access once every 5 minutes or so, draining precious battery power.

I'd highly recommend this phone to anyone who is looking for the basics - who values Motorola dependability and quality. I came from a pre-paid service so the V950 is great!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

A lot of people complain about this but what do you expect from a phone with a lot of features. just go buy a car charger or spare battery on Amazon or ebay.

Other than that, this phone is awesome, no questions asked. I have a outdoor job where this a lot of moisture and rough terrain, this phone lives up to its ruggedness and it is definitley rain proof. Speaker is the best yet even comparable to the Sanyo 4900. The reception is about the same as every other phone. The earpiece volume is loud. the phone is a good piece of equipment.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

jgroland submitted this review of the Motorola Renegade V950:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

Since signing on with Sprint for a year I have had the Sanyo SCP-3200 basic fliphone, and ever since I have wanted a rugged phone simply because I am rough with my phones. Well in doing my research it seems this phone is packed with the best features you can have with the fastest speeds.

I just purchased the phone and it is solid and looks like it can take a beating:

PROS:
----------------------------
* EXTRA RUGGED (TAKES MORE THAN OTHER RUGGED PHONES SALT FOG ANYONE?)
*2 MEGAPIXEL CAMERA W/ FLASH... COMES IN HANDY
*FAST DATA REV A.. NONE FASTER
*8GB MEMORY CAPABLE?? WHO NEEDS THAT MUCH?
*GREAT MOTOROLA SUPPORT
*SOLID W/ GOOD WEIGHT, NOT A PLASTIC FEEL
*THIN FOR A RUGGED PHONE, JUST A TAD OVER THE THICKNESS OF THE RAZR.
*LIVE TV ANYONE?
*NOT SLOW LIKE iDEN PHONES ESPECIALLY FOR TEXT AND MMS MESSAGING iDEN IS AWEFUL.

CONS:
-----------------------------
*BATTERY LIFE (EVERYONE WILL ENCOUNTER THIS IF NOT JUST A SMALL AMOUNT SO DO LIKE I DID AND BUY THE EXTENDED BATTERY AND COVER)
*QCHAT ONLY WORKS IN HIGH SPEED DATA AREAS (IF YOUR NOT USING THE 'CHIRP' TURN IT OFF IT DRAINS THE BATTERY)
*BLUETOOTH DRAINS BATTERY ALSO (TURN OFF IF NOT USING)

Although I know the battery issue is a major one I have a feeling it will improve with firmware, this phone is great and with all of the features no wonder the battery is drained.
I agree with others that the phone should ship with the extended battery and cover (They may start doing this).
Don't let others get you down about buying this phone it is good for everything and you wont be able to break it like your other phone (Even versus other ruugged phones).

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

elkfla submitted this review of the Motorola Renegade V950:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

Pros: Has everything I wanted

Cons: Battery Life - But There IS a Reason The Battery Life Sucks and It Can Be Corrected !!!

The two main things that I was looking for was, 1) An excellent speaker-phone and 2) long battery life (advertised at 4-hours of talk-time).

I returned the Renegade to the Sprint store after only two days due to its short battery life (bought before reading the reviews).

Motorola claims 4-Hours of talk time.

I found out from one reviewer that the phone dies out even if you don't talk at all!

The problem is not how much you talk on this phone, the problem is the stand-by time, if you look over the specs from Motorola, they list the talk-time at 240-minutes but they do not publish a stand-by time.

What's up with this ???

Come to find out, the problem is the phone's Direct Connect "Q-Chat" feature. Since the phone is NOT on Nextel's iDEN network, Sprint uses V.O.I.P. (Voice Over IP) to connect the Renegade into the Nextel network.

In order for someone to be able to "Direct Connect" to your phone, your Renegade must be connected to the network at all times.

When the "Direct Connect" feature is enabled on the phone, it uses the Sprint EV-DO Rev A, 3G Data Network.

Your 3G data connection is always on and that will kill the battery in about 14-hours just having the phone on.

You can go into the phone's settings and turn off the Push-To-Talk and the battery life will be excellent!!!

If you want a Push-To-Talk type of phone, get the Motorola i776 from BoostMobile.com, it is part of Sprint-Nextel and uses the iDEN network, DO NOT buy the Renegade if you need this feature, it makes no sense.

As of 1/22/09 Boost will be offering a $50/Month Unlimited Voice/Text/Data Plan over the Nextel network that includes Long Distance and NATIONWIDE ROAMING!!!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Lokimack submitted this review of the Motorola Renegade V950:

Overall rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

My trusty Sanyo MM7500 was beginning to crack at the hinge after 3 years so I decided to "upgrade". So off to the Sprint store in San Antonio I go. I looked at the Sanyo 700 PRO because I have always had great luck with the Sanyos but it did not have a camera and on rare occassions I need a camera. (side note: the MM7500 was the perfect phone if you wanted a phone with some bells and whistles but not an entertainment device. Who at Sanyo thought it was a good idea to delete features from a perfectly GREAT functioning, durable phone. The 7500 was rugged, had a camera, music player, excellent contacts and speed dial set up and it was the perfect size.) So the saleman tells me how durable and wonderful the Renegade is, so I bite. Well after 3 weeks of use I dread everytime I pick this thing up. The screen freezes about 3 or 4 times a day and the battery has to be removed to restart it. Well today it froze on me and even after removing the battery it would not work. I went from 1130am until 240pm using my old 7500 on my second line because this chunk of poo was locked up. All I would get was a dark screen and the sprint logo on the external display. I finally left the battery out for over an hour and then it began working again. The speed dial set up is pitiful. It sounds like whoever I am talking to is talking through a can. The ear piece volume is way to low to be heard in really noisy places like your truck with the window down and driving at 40mph. The alerts/alarms only go off once then you just get a beep. The display is already showing impressions of the keyboard. The interface is so-so and not that intuitive.

The device does take awsome pictures and I found the battery life to be better than reported. It will make and recieve calls and it can send and recieve text but there are FAR better devices out there from just a few years back. As soon as I can decide on a replacement this thing is GONE.

"Hello Moto"? I think not; GOOD BYE is more like it.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

PlatMan submitted this review of the Motorola Renegade V950:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

This phone has just about everything a phone could ever have ..... all the bells and whistles are there.

The two very best things about it is the solid Mil Spec built quality and all the kewl features / displays it has. Of course it gets excellent reception and fantastic sound quality.

The ONLY bad thing that I can say about this phone is not really the phone itself, but rather the standard battery that comes with it. Got to be the shortest lasting battery for a normal days usage that I ever encountered. I do give this phone a 5 star rating though because you can purchase the extended battery and extended battery door through Sprint.com and this battery has excellent charge holding capabilities = to or more than other extended batteries do. It's a must to have the extended battery if you use the phone allot each day. So, I give it 5 stars with the extended battery.

To sum it all up, I left AT&T Apple iPhone and VZW's Motorola Adventure V750 to get the Sprint Motorola Renegade V950 ..... The Moto Renegade and Sprint combined makes for a fantastic combination of equipment and service ... great phone with fantastic coverage!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

This is the first direct connect phone I've had since March 06 and I'm impressed. I've had a few quirks but other than that it's been a great phone.

Pros
Military Spec
Camera zoom is better than any other I've seen
Bright Flash, very bright
LOUD music is crystal clear too
Direct Connect or not your choice
Able to go through call log without opening
Application manager

Cons
Different way of going through contacts
Battery life
no use of camera when closed

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Emmanuel D submitted this review of the Motorola Renegade V950:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I've only had this phone for a few days now and must say that this is the best phone I've ever owned since Sanyo's MM-9000 back in 2005.

It has an array of features, must notably; stereo bluetooth connectivity, a military spec. shell, and a 1.5 inch external display which shows the phones status without even opening the phone.

Other features include Nextel's Direct Connect which allows you to use the phone like a walkie-talkie, a media player with external controls, a dedicated e-mail client and a 2 mega-pixel camera with 4X optical zoom with flash.

On the flip-side, it doesn't come with a data cable and the phone's processor is a bit on the slow side. Given the price of the phone, I think Motorola could have done a better job in that department, but overall an excellent phone with a decent feature set.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

verizon12345 submitted this review of the Motorola Renegade V950:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I have to say the renegade is good but its not without its few drawbacks. First i had a pair of 902's with the extended fat back batteries which at best lasted three days of stand-bye and maybe a day and a half if moderately used.. The renegade is definetly and upgrade to the 902 with its rubberized durability and overall feel even its ui although similar to the 902 seems to have a better feel to it. The dircet connect i seemed to like better on the 902 but again that phone was a hybrid using both sprint and nextel technologies i sometimes see the rev A even though in great coverage area the direct connect doesnt work, but i have to say for the most it does work. As for overall feel of the phone i have to give it high marks i just like how it looks and feels in my hand unlike the 902 which would slide through your hand. But as we all know the standard battery with the renegade is not to good i cant tell if its the cell calls or the direct connect but man o man you might get 2 hours or a little more talk time and stand-bye well if you have used it at all well forget it lol... If you purchase this phone which i suggest if you can find it dont look in the stores call sprint directly and they will have some, dont forget to buy the extended battery because you will truly need it,, if you have questions or comments im always up for a good debate so let me know...Thanks... Eric..

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Brent submitted this review of the Motorola Renegade V950:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

Already on my second v950 in less than 2 weeks.

Problems:
1.) Direct connect was blocked half of the time. Tech support suggested to do a Data Services upgrade. This did nothing and led to the second problem.
2.) Data Services screen froze up and would never change.
3.) Battery strength was great the first week at 9 hours, but the day the swapped the phone out it was only working 4 hours. Charged the old battery in the new phone and it worked for 8 hours. Unsure if it was the phone or charger.
4.) Phone seemed to have lots of operating problems once the battery gets low. Meaning low battery sound.

Unsure of overall performance and satisfaction of v950.
Before this phone I had Samsung Z400 for 2 weeks. Worst phone ever.
Prior Motorola IC902 which was one of the better phones that I had used in a long time.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
