the_cartooner submitted this review of the LG Shine CU720:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

I had an AT&T Go-Phone and since it was old and messing up I needed a new one. I didn't have a contract so I saved up and finally bought the LG Shine for around $400. 400 DOLLARS! I know, stupid move, but i wanted a good one. Right after taking it out of the box I regretted it. Multiple problems. I finally just bought another Go-Phone for $350 dollars less that blew the Shine out of the water.
PROS: well...it was new.
CONS: no service (even though all other AT&T phones pick up great in my area); horrible battery (fully charged at the beginning of the day, one bar at night - even though it wasn't used but for a few texts); slow to respond sometimes; thick and cluncky body.
BOTTOM LINE: save yourself the hassle and money, don't buy it. Truly horrible phone. LG must have threw this phone together for a quick buck without testing it.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

In fact I don't even know if they sell it anymore. My two biggest complaint are the hard to use navigation ball. And the fact that I just found out I can't just copy all of my pictures and photo's to a memory card at once. It has to be one by one. That's 2 years of pictures and video. From my daughters birth to her second birthday a couple of days ago. Any way my wife and I both have problems with ours so we are getting new ones soon. Well after I transfer all the photo's and video that is. :/

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Also it would get really hot when I would plug it into the charger. so after i had gotten it replaced i had the new one for maybe a month and that one had similar problems also with the added problem of it shutting off no reason.

PROS
small
slide phone (pretty cool)
built in mirror

CONS
short battery life (i mean short)
overheats when charging
shuts off for no reason
vibrate and ring are not loud and often drowned out by background noise
dropped lots of calls (AT&T)

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

kestrachern6 submitted this review of the LG Shine CU720:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

PROS: Excellent durability (except for screen - easy to scratch), good sound quality, good picture quality, very dependable, few (if any) software bugs

CONS: Bluetooth, inconsistent quality, loud keys (not good for stealthy texting)

I've had my LG Shine for nearly two years and it's been excellent. I really appreciate durable craftsmanship and while the screen itself is prone to scratching, overall the phone can really take a hit. The only problem it ever gave me was the Bluetooth quit working after about two months. Not a huge issue for me, but could be problematic for some. The phone has only frozen once in these two years, and I just took out the battery and popped it back in. No lasting problems. The camera quality is pretty good as long as the light is decent. The flash isn't much good for pictures, but it has an "always on" feature that is useful as a flashlight. The internal memory is quite adequate, but if you feel the need for a memory card the slot is conveniently located on the side of the phone. It's true that the joystick takes a little time to get used to, but I didn't feel it was particularly annoying. To be honest, I'd be happy to keep this phone another few years except that I finally dropped it a little too hard on the tile and the faceplate around the edge came off. I'm toying with the idea of just gluing it back on...

However, It seems that the quality is inconsistent between phones. My boyfriend got the same phone (different color) about two months after I did and had nothing but trouble with it. Despite the fact that he treated it with utmost care, it froze on a daily basis, dropped calls, and shut down frequently. It died within about three months and he had it replaced. His new one however, behaves MUCH better.

Maybe the phone is needs to be dropped a few hundred times for optimum functionality? That's what I did anyway...

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

omgblue submitted this review of the LG Shine CU720:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

I've had this phone for a couple months, and it wasn't new when I got it, either. I've gone through like 7 phones in a year and a half (I have really bad luck with phones) and the shine is the only phone I've ever had that can withstand my clumsiness. Seriously, it got soaked in water for two hours, fell in a cup of coffee, and I drop it like three times a day, and it still works perfectly! Not kidding!

Aside from durability, this phone is still great. It may be a bit heavy, but it's not too heavy. Like, it's just heavy enough to be able to find it easily in my purse. A few other phones I've had couldn't keep up with me while texting. Like, I'd enter the text and have to wait a few seconds for it to appear on the screen. I don't have that problem with this phone. It's fast, and responsive.

I would definitely recommend this phone to anyone, especially teenagers or anyone clumsy. It may not be as "cool" as some newer phones, but it's still great.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

snoball318 submitted this review of the LG Shine CU720:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I've had this phone for a few months now and I am satisfied with it. Before the Shine, I has a Samsung a737 and I liked it but I recommend the Shine over it.
PROS:
-2.2 inch clear, brisk LCD screen
-Easy to use joystick
-Flashing 2mp Camera
-Fast 3G web surfing
-Good battery life
-Signatures for text messages
CONS:
-Heavy (over 4 oz)
-Keypad locks very quick
-Unable to set personal banner
Overall, this is a great phone and I recommend it to anybody. The keypad is rather small for texting if you have big fingers but I have small fingers so it doesn't bother me. Also, the mirror is very useful!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Shine_On submitted this review of the LG Shine CU720:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

After reading mixed reviews about the Shine, I purchased it in black for the reasonable price of $9.99. Not perfect, but I think it's a great phone, especially for that price. It would even be a good phone for $100. As a point of reference, I switched from a Nokia 6555.

Pros:
-appearance (it's beautiful!)
-size (not too big, but not too small)
-2.0MP camera with flash, great resolution
-easily navigated menus
-can do most things without sliding it open
-powerful vibrate function
-expandable storage, easily accessible
-brushed metal back is fingerprint resistant
-intuitive T9
-fun navigation with the joystick

Cons:
-joystick takes some getting used to (it's sensitive)
-keys are not very sensitive
-ringtones are fairly quiet (but the vibrate is loud enough that I don't miss calls over it)
-front picks up scratches/fingerprints easily
-constantly switching between 3G and Edge, so it can drop service where 3G isn't strong, even if Edge is
-can't customize message alert tones

In a nutshell, I love my phone. My old phone had taken to turning itself off randomly, every hour or so, and had a very quiet vibrate function. If my phone was on vibrate and in my pocket, I couldn't feel it buzz. With the Shine, I can hear it vibrating from across the room. Within a week of having it, I bought a screen protector and snap-on case for a few dollars, and thought they were a great investment to protect against scratching. While it makes the mirror a little less clear, that's not something that matters to me very much. I bought it as a phone, not a mirror. I would recommend it to a friend, just as a friend recommended it to me.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

nevergetany submitted this review of the LG Shine CU720:

Overall rating: 0 (out of 5)

Lg shine CU720 has been the poorest phone I have used to date.
Not everything is bad, it does some things right. It has a big display screen, and the control is on the side to change volume and put it in vibrate mode. Without a manual some of the things take time to figure out: such as how do you change the menu to list instead of icon; and how do you assign a particular music to one individual (they do have one for groups..but I prefer it to be individualized). When I called LG recently to get a replacement phone, they told me the phone comes un-locked. I have not tried someone else's sim card to test that out yet. My original phone from AT&T came locked. The CU720 is quad band (that is a pro), but when the phone is locked, it does you no good if AT&T is not there. If you are overseas, and put in their sim card, it won't work. So now your Quad band is 1 band. According to AT&T, they lock the phone so if you go to another carrier, you can't use that phone. If all the manufactures put an unlock in their menu, it would stop that nonsense.
The cons: The phone has such a low wattage chip in it you can not get good coverage. People have a hard time hearing you when you talk (poor mike pick-up), and you have a hard time hearing them (another pick-up?). The wattage needs to be increased to 3watts (as in the older phones) by ALL manufactures. That would give better coverage and fewer lost calls. The phone does not always accept a charge. When you charge it up (every night, as it would go dead the next day), sometimes it charges, sometimes it lasts a while then goes dead (the charge didn't take). My old Motorola phone lasted 2 days between charge ups, you could hear good and people could hear you. On that phone I could assign music to an individual so I knew who was calling. When I attempted to d/l music to my CU720, I had to buy a data cable(they don't provide one), and then it asked for the software (the cable didn't have one), and neither did LG. Rate -10.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I would not recommend this particular model to anyone, and will most likely never buy an LG phone again. My husband went back to using his old Motorola RAZR and I hate my phone so much that I am searching for a cheap replacement phone to ride out our 2-year commitment.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I am now on my FOURTH warranty exchange from ATT and am finally being allowed to choose another phone.
Pros - it is a nice looking phone
- the battery life is useful for what
I need
- Fairly easy to navigate although the
keys are VERY small for texting

Cons - can barely feel it vibrate so I miss
a lot of calls
- volume of ringer is ridiculously low
- sound quality of calls is extremely
poor...cannot talk on the phone while
riding in a car as the background
noise is too overpowering
-last but not least...IT KEEPS POWERING
OFF FOR NO REASON!!! All 4 phones have
randomly shut off after a call, while
laying on a table, in my pocket, while
recharging...all seemingly random times

I have not dropped the phones or damaged them in any way. I have even managed to keep every screen scratch free...not so easy with that shiny "glass" face. I think the problem is obviously somewhere in the design...I couldn't possibly have been so unlucky as to get the only 4 malfunctioning phones in the world! I hope I have better luck with my new replacement...I think I will try a Samsung this time. LG has been a very big disappointment.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Blitzftw submitted this review of the LG Shine CU720:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

Ive had this phone for about 6 months now and I have to say it has been a great $75 investment. I use this device as a text messaging machine, sport score updater, camera and camcorder, and music player. It makes my multimedia life very convenient

For the most part there are very few things I can complain about.

I have the black Shine, which I think looks the best

Cons-

The speaker volume is very poor. when using it as a mp3 player, i can barely hear the music unless i have my headphones plugged in.

The battery life is remarkebly subpar. I charge it at night when i go to bed and by the time i leave work the following day the phone is warning me that the battery is going to die even when i dont use the internet or music player

Pros-

The Multi-function button is very handy. Many times while im on a phone call, i'll need to check a text or check something i have in my settings. With the multi-function button I'm able to access the "home page" from any application im on, so if im playing a game and i want to check an email I can do so by just pressing one button and then pressing the same button again to go back without having to reload the game.

Screen resolution is great. Pictures, text, and icons all look very crisp.

Color layouts. I have my color layout as black for the background and a darkblue for items I highlight, it is kinda GQish and sexy.

You can record video at a high quality and taking pictures is great as the screen is pretty large.

Overall its a very smart and sophisticated phone that works very streamlined with a memory card. As a waiter, I get kind of anal to make sure nothing is in my teeth and that my hair isnt fluffing around into oblivion, so with the Shine, i can just pull out my phone and look at the screen really quick as opposed to having to run to a bathroom mirror :)

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I have the silver one with a clear case and screen protector and it still looks great. This phone is great for a first phone. I'm very happy with my purchase.

Pros: Large screen
Joystick is fun and easy to use
Slider
Micro SD slot
2.0 Megapixel Camera
Screen lock
Easy to use
Looks great

Cons: Battery life isn't great but not terrible
Sometimes you can't feel it vibrate

Even though the battery isn't the best it's all I needed in a first phone. Also I knew what I was getting out of it so it was a great purchase. As long as you know what you are getting I highly recommend this phone!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I loose signal all the time where my previous phones had FULL bars. CHEAP or EXPENSIVE!!! There's only one ring tone that i can actually hear that came with the phone. The rest are weak. When you use the camera you have to reset flash settings everything which is a pain. VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY WEAK BATTERY LIFE!!! If you decide to keep this phone make sure you purchase a car charger as well because you will need it everywhere you go. So here it is.
Pros- LARGE SCREEN
- ATTRACTIVE
- GOOD RECEPTION WHEN YOU GET A SIGNAL
- STURDY
-----------------------------------------------

CONS- POOR SIGNAL
- SCRATCHES EASILY
- POOR BATTERY LIFE
- JOY STICK TO TOUCHY
- CAN BARLEY HEAR ANY RING/ALERT TONES
- VERY DIFFICULT TO TEXT WITH

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I find it really hard to believe that I got 2 phones with a bad computer chip, or what ever is in these phones. Could make a person go mad I'm an army wife and I need my line of communication!

Pros:
It has a killer appearance, The shine is very attractive.
If your into using the internet with your phone its got a ton of Apps for all that stuff.

CONS: I am very careful and hardly drop it and certainly NOT on purpose and its messed up a few days later never immediately. It scratches and once its GOOD and scratched it's appearance is shot. Nothing attractive about an old scratched phone.

i'm going to be going back to my older phone I got last year. the batteries better, the battle scars aren't as noticeable and the kicker is it was the free one.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

sweetgin submitted this review of the LG Shine CU720:

Overall rating: 0 (out of 5)

I upgraded my phone in september of 2008 and have had to go to a support center and have them give me a complete new phone.

PRO'S
I really dont have any except that the pictures are great on this phone.

CON'S

1. The batt. on this phone is horrible for a person that does alot of texting. I guess it would be fine if all you do is talk, but if you use the internet, text, take lots of pictures, basically if you actually use the phone you have to keep it on the charger.

2. I am dropping calls all the time which i never really had a problem with other phones i think this the first time that dropping calls has been a problem for me.

3. At least once a week or more i would have to completely take my batt. and sim card out of the phone to get it to work. I would not be able to send or recieve text, call or get calls from anyone.

4. Texting is horrible i am constantly hitting the wrong button because there is no room for your fingers(and i have small finders)!! Big fingered people stay away.

5. The scroll button is a little frustrating but takes some getting used to. Most people see that as a problem but not for me.

Over all I would have never got this phone if I would have known any of this about the phone. Its a waste of money.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

bumpergirl submitted this review of the LG Shine CU720:

Overall rating: 1.5 (out of 5)

I've had this phone for quite some time and have realized it's not all it's cracked up to be by far. When I first got this phone I was like everyone else and loved it. But I do have to say the phone does have it's faults. Some I have found are....

-horrible battery life
-screen goes black and you can't see who's calling or see to text
-you have to turn the flash on every time you take a picture
-you are unable to "lock" text messages
-screen is easily scratched
-signal area isn't that great through WV
-you have to choose from their list of text message alerts, no customizing your own
-where the antenna is built in to slide with the phone, if the phone is in your pocket alot of times it looses the signal

Some good things I have found are...

-i don't have a problem with the ring volume
-the phone does seem pretty durable
-does allow you to store up to 4 numbers for each phone book entry
-songs sound pretty good on the speaker
-it's not hard to navigate

I switched to this phone after having a razr, this being my first LG and I do have to say overall the razr was a better phone! I'm not so sure I'll own another LG after this one!

GOODLUCK!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

First one had a large patch of dead pixels in the middle of the screen after just 6 days, from then on, I had to call in every month to get a new one because the phones would overheat to the point where it was impossible to use despite getting a new whole new kit from AT&T, and trying different wall outlets when charging. Got mediocre service most of the time even though I am in a 3G area, and it was much better than my old phone in terms of looks but I got sick of this phone and jumped at AT&T's offer to switch it out for another after it died the 4th time.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

The vibrate feature is also very average.

PROS:
Good reception.
Good pic quality.
Fits in pocket nicely.
Good picture quality.

Call quality is fine.
Battery life normal but not great (standard battery).

Overall:

I had a hard time getting used to the slider. My 12 yr old son loves the phone. I got rid of the phone and for a flip phone with a louder ring. I just missed too many calls due to the poor ring tone volume. The volume was the main reason I quit using this phone!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
