riel.lopez submitted this review of the Nokia 6555:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

This phone is built like a tank. Durability is what makes this phone. Being a typical 16 year old I would find myself dropping this phone more then what is normal. This phone to this day has been there for me. Baterrey may not be the best but it still manages. 2 years later the only problem this phone has given me is its uncanny nature too shut off for no apparent reason. Not sure if its the abbuse i've put it through or just a defect in the phone itself.

Pros
-Durable!
-Texting is quick and simple
-music player does the job
-did i mention durable?

Cons
-Random turn off's get irritating when in a conversation.
-battery neesd charging often. (inconsistant)

Great phone, lasted me my teenage life! =]

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

sbehbaha submitted this review of the Nokia 6555:

Overall rating: 0 (out of 5)

I'm pretty sure AT&T has stopped carrying this phone, but if you are considering purchasing this phone thru ebay or whatever, DON'T!

Just to reiterate what others have said, this is a horrible horrible phone. The battery barely lasts through a one-hour phone call and the phone likes to turn itself off randomly. Then after you turn it back on, you can't even use the phone for an entire 2 minutes because it's still loading.

I can't stand this phone and had a heck of a time getting AT&T to let me get a completely different phone instead of going through warranty. Do NOT purchase this phone.

I hope that someone who has this phone does not have to call 911 and ends up having their phone shut itself off.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

kt submitted this review of the Nokia 6555:

Overall rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

I don't ask much from a phone. Talking, texting, and a slightly cool/fun look are about all I need. That said, this phone doesn't do it for me. I upgraded and chose this one over the Nokia 6085, which I thought was a bit plain. Bad call. Everyone with that phone likes it- very reliable. Mine is not. So with that in mind, here are my pros and cons.

PROS:
Pretty phone-nice bright colors and backgrounds (only a few to choose from though)
Good customization
Not bad camera
Lots of storage (texts etc)

CONS:
The battery-has awful life (remember I don't use it much) AND turns itself off randomly even when charged.
The outer surface and screen scratch incredibly easily.

Simple. The battery kills this phone. I thought that since I don't use it much, I could ignore the reviews that gave it a bad battery rating, but it's not good enough even for me.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

(Set for 6pm monday, rings 6 hours later, at midnight. every time.)
-Can't access mobile email.
-A friend also has theirs turn off when opened too quickly.

Over all, it is an okay phone if you don't text or use extra features.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Dude submitted this review of the Nokia 6555:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

General Comments:
I wanted to get an ATT GoPhone that is 3G compatible and a clamshell. At the time I bought this one, it was the only one that ATT offered, so I was stuck with it.

PRO:
- stylish!
- larger phone which I consider a pro since I can't stand the mini-phones out there
- micro SD expansion slot
- easy menu access/navigation
- bluetooth
- Nokia Suite (free download from Nokia)
-

CON:
- battery life (OMG!)
- no charging via USB cable
- poor cam image quality
- not S60

I have read other reviews that said the battery life is poor. I figured that between the energy saving methods (data when needed, etc), and me not using the phone as iPod or TV, I would be fine. Boy was I wrong. I get at the very most 120 minutes of talk time out of the battery. That's just unacceptable.

The Nokia USB cable is being sold as a way to charge the phone, except it doesn't actally do that.

The cam image quality is poor at best. Extremely poor when taking indoor pics in normal office light.

Writing your own apps for this phone is a pain in the rear as you have to use Java. If you want to write your own apps get an S60 phone and code in C.

If they would only offer the iPhone as GoPhone compatible. I simply refuse to be held hostage by a monthly fee for services I don't use. Prepaid phones is the way to go, and the 6555 is the price you "pay" for not paying $70/month for service.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

MrChazz submitted this review of the Nokia 6555:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

I got this phone as an upgrade, I was happy to get back into a flip phone. This phone has been pretty much what I expected, its a nokia, and since I have not gotten the phone wet it's still working Very well. I constantly use the bluetooth feature, I put in a 2gb MicroSD card, and I run a feature rich Theme, so my battery life is about 1.5 days, if I forget to charge it at night, then I can get away with a quick 20 minute charge in the morning, if the phone dies out, it will still (or at least try) to turn back on to set off the alarm, and the alarm does work when the phone is powered off, the speaker phone does crack a little if you turn it up beyond 7 or 8, I like the media player feature, altho the 3gp video is kind of a limited codec. the camera works nice for snapshots or pictures, would like to have better resolution for video though, at least I know what I'm looking for when I upgrade again. I can say that this phone has been a very good experience, and If you like this phone but want to go with smartphone features then you can look forward to the 6650 fold which has a few minor physical differences but runs symbian 60 (if my memory serves me right). Nokia did a good job on this model, I'm still on my first phone, my girlfriend on the other hand has gone through 2 of them, altho she does work in catering and the 1st phone went down 6 flights of stairs, was still functional but the * key stopped working. If the battery lasted more than 36 hours, the video capture had a higher resolution and it took a standard USB adapter than this phone would be perfect in my own opinion.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I also experience the phone shutting down a lot. When I remove and reinstall the battery, it seems to clear the problem for a week or so.
I would not buy it again.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

jesuchriste submitted this review of the Nokia 6555:

Overall rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

It seemed nice. At first. I've had this thing for about a year now. The battery life has never been good. It is a nice looking phone, and a comfortable size and length. The call quality is good enough -- back when the phone still worked. My microphone still works, but after a year of mild abuse the speaker/ear cuts in and out like Ronaldinho. This means that sometimes it's silent when I hit the call button, and I assume that its just connecting and will soon begin to ring. Although I can't hear it, the person (or their voice mail) has often already picked up when I think the call hasn't gone through yet. Then, when I think there was just a network problem, I'll try to call again immediately after with the same results. Which makes for some interesting conversations later ('why did you leave me 6 voice mails without saying anything?'). Oh, and the PTT button is a pain, and the battery gets hot after about 20 minutes of a call. Oh, and I almost forgot the BEST PART: this phone rarely drops calls -- or rather, the service rarely drops calls -- HOWEVER, the phone enjoys turning itself off during calls. I'll think the call gets dropped and go to dial back, only to realize that the phone itself is completely off. The 30 seconds of waiting for the phone to turn on before I can redial is even worse than bad signal. I don't know that this phone is still on the market, but if it is and you're looking to have the phone for more than a month, then DON'T DO IT.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

bubbles042464 submitted this review of the Nokia 6555:

Overall rating: 0 (out of 5)

I have the 6555 and it was working well for a while. Two weeks ago it was sitting on my dresser and the battery overheated and caused condensation inside the phone. I removed the battery and left the phone open overnight to see if it would work the next day. It did not work and would not even charge or turn on. I took it to Best Buy-where I got it. They only gave me the number for Nokia and the location of an AT&T warranty center. AT&T would not do anything for me since the square in the back was slightly pink and said that the phone had moisture damage. DUH. The battery overheated and caused the moisture damage. I will never use Nokia again and I will not be renewing with AT&T in the future. I am back to the old LG that I started out with years ago.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I have had nothing but trouble with the phone from the first time I used it. I read the reviews about the battery life but I went ahead and picked up two of the phones (wife and I). We both have to charge our phones every day and we don't use them that much either. My phone drops calls all of the time. And my friends tell me that it sounds like I am driving down the highway while holding the phone outside the window at 70. I can almost always hear static in the background and then I will get a super high pitch screech through the earphone speaker. Now the phone will not turn on, only the keypad lights up?
I am getting a replacement phone sent from AT&T for no charge so hopefully this phone will work better then the previous one.
I have been overseas for a year and a half, and I took a go phone with me. I didn't want to take a good phone because of where I was going. But the lousy, cheap go phone from Walmart worked great. This $20.00 phone had no features, but crystal clear calling for almost two years!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

They are smaller than a smartphone but offer many of the same features. I use calendar (sync w/Lotus Notes), alarm clock, texting, voice calls.

I've used a Nokia 6126 with AT&T for the last year. When I accidently dropped my 6126 in water, I decided to try the 6555. Overall, I like it a bit better, but I do miss some things from the 6126. Here are features and strengths of each phone.

Nokia 6126
http://www.forum.nokia.com/devices/6126
Nokia OS v4.28, 29-Jan-07, RM-126 (Series 40 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 1)
10 MB internal memory
BL-4C battery (720mAh)
Advantages vs 6555
- Tasks require fewer steps, eg: turning alarm on
- Allows any mp3 as tone
- Better ring and alert tones selection
- Gentle ascending alarm clock default tone
- Larger screen
- Screen backlight stays on longer
- Button opens phone
- No Cellular Video/MEdiaNet keys to push accidently
- Larger nemeric keys, easier texting

Nokia 6555
http://www.forum.nokia.com/devices/6555
Nokia OS v03.31, 01-Aug-07, RM-289 (Series 40 5th Edition)
30 MB internal memory
BL-5C battery (850mAh)
Advantages vs 6126
- 3x more internal memory
- Smaller overall; thinner, skinnier, but longer
- Small USB data connection (no Pop-Port)
- Built-in stereo headset/headphones jack
- Active-matrix displays
- Brighter, sharper, easier to read
- Readable in direct sunlight
- Takes more power, but bigger battery compensates
- Sharper active standby display font
- Main display is flush with bezel; much easier to clean
- No painted plastic parts to scratch in pocket/look bad
- Don't need protective case
- 3 case color options
- No "off" button on side, easier to snooze alarm clock
- No camera button on side to push accidently
- Larger non-numeric keys easier for fat fingers

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

isanblm submitted this review of the Nokia 6555:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

I am on my third one of these. Each one so far has had the same problems, dropping calls, problems with text messaging, and random powering off.

No matter if I have full service or not-so-good service, sometimes my phone will randomly power off, even right in the middle of a phone call.

This phone also only sends text messages whenever it feels like it. I don't seem to have a problem receiving, but always sending.

I will also be in the middle of a conversation and all of a sudden I get a loud disconnect tone, even though my screen shows that I am still connected with the other party. No matter how long I wait, the tone does not go away. I have to hang up and re-send my phone call.

One other huge annoying fact is that the back battery cover falls off constantly. Even just putting it in my bag makes it slide off. It is just a little flimsy piece of plastic that clicks into place.

ATT will not let me switch to any other brand of phone, even though this one is obviously crap. I should have stuck with my Sony Ericsson.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

jreisner submitted this review of the Nokia 6555:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

First off, I need to say I have always been a Nokia fan. While with Verizon for over 5 years, however, there were no decent Nokias, so I became an LG fan. When I switched to AT&T (Cingular at the time) not by choice but to join a family plan, it seemed like my chance to finally get a good Nokia.

Compared to my Verizon LG's, I initially did not like this phone and switched after 3 days to what I was sure was a great bet - a comparable LG. But sadly LG does not spend nearly as much money developing GSM phones, and it was a huge disappointment. 24 hours later, I was back to this one. Here's why:

1) Thin and light, fits easily in all pockets
2) Beautiful screen, better than most phones
3) Quick and intuitive interface
4) Excellent camera for the price
5) Very good media player for the price
6) Best reception I've had (Pittsburgh, PA)

Here's some bad points:

1) Flat keys (can't use w/o looking)
2) Entire phone smears and smudges horribly
3) Weak vibrate - can't always feel
4) Small ringtone choice - and you can not create your own from mp3's
5) No flash on camera
6) No outer media player keys
7) Worse than average battery life

Overall the pros outweigh the cons and for the price (emphasis added) this phone can not be beat.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I have had 2 replaced in the last 3 months because of electrical glitches. Probably the worst phone I have ever used.

PROS:
Good Reception
Good Bluetooth interface (Best I have used yet)

CONS:
Battery Life, By mid-day I have to recharge
Quality, 2 in 3 months

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

jforcey submitted this review of the Nokia 6555:

Overall rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

I used to work for AT&T, so getting a phone meant paying a lot more than customers. I wanted something that was unique, something not too expensive, and something that would last for a while.

I'm now on my second 6555 because my first one had some crazy issues with powering itself off about ten times a day. However, no one at AT&T had ever heard of this happening. Nor had I read about it anywhere. My new one is running fine.

Everywhere I read, though, everyone complained about the battery life. Mine's been fine. I charge mine once every other day or even every three days.

Here's my list of Pros & Cons:

Cons:
slim, slippery design - easy to drop, difficult to get used to holding
volume button on side is on top half - hard to get used to
only able to set one alarm (personal preference, though)

Pros:
unique design - eye-catching
easy to learn to use & navigate
very easy to personalize
very sturdy, which is convenient because of how easy it is to drop
holds up to 4 GB of memory - great as an MP3 player
slim design - easily fits into my pocket

There are a ton more, but I don't want to completely bore you.

Overall, I recommend this as a mid-level phone to anyone who wants something unique and something sturdy.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Aside from battery, this has been a great phone for us although we do get a strange one every now and then, but you're bound to get a defective phone once in a while. Hope this helps!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I have had my phone since January and after the first month I had to have the phone replaced on warranty. After another month with the new phone it is doing the same thing and has to be replaced again. After about a month the phone begins to short out and turn off on its own or freeze for no reason. Even though this phone was great for texting, has good weight and shape, however I cant look past the shorting out and turning off on its own.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

So thats the first plus.

Besides the great pricing, this phone has a wide and plentiful feature set with plenty of room to expand (with a memory card that is).

The phone is lightweight and comfortable but yet sleek, stylish and elegant at the same time (seamless hinge when opened).

The only negative I have with this phone as a heavy user is the battery life. However, I like the phone so much that I'm willing to get an extra battery for a rotation or an extended battery.

Pros:
Sexy Design
Feature Set
3G
Comfy Keypad (texting)
Great Sound (sounds like a house phone)
Customization options seem to go fairly deep.
Great Hi-Res Screen (great for medianet)

Cons:
Battery Life
lack of dedicated 'clear' button (uses right softkey)
Doesnt come with data cable or earphones.

If anyone has any questions about the phone, send me a message. terrylamb@gmail.com

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
