ridethelightning1984 submitted this review of the LG VX-8350:

Overall rating: 3 (out of 5)

First off, I'm gonna start off this review by saying this phone lasted me longer than any phone I had prior to it. It lasted me just over 12 months. What surprises me is that I actually got it to last that long.

Pros:

Sound Quality
Ease of Use
Texting was very easy on this phone. Probably the best implementation of T9 I've seen.
Lasted me a while.
Signal Strength - I never once dropped a call with this phone. The other one did have some issues but it wasn't my phone.
Price - Cheap.

Cons: Just about everything else, but here are the major ones.

Battery Life - I charged this phone every single night, sometimes twice in one day. Not good. We had another one of these in red that was the same way.
Durability - Cheap, flimsy, plastic piece of crap. Rubbing it on a plastic table by accident caused the paint to scratch off and reveal the black plastic under the matte grey paint.

The camera and MP3 features were average. Nothing special.

This phone eventually bit the dust and for the next few months I ended up with a VX8550 donated to me by an old friend. Followed by that was a Motorola V325i, an LG VX8100, a VX9800, an enV2, and now, I am currently using an enV3.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

dtl1030 submitted this review of the LG VX-8350:

Overall rating: 1.5 (out of 5)

The phone is great until the hinge decides to break. I have had 3 of them now with each one breaking earlier than the last. All three broke in the exact same spot, the right side hinge. The plastic on the back side of the hinge is weak and snaps off.

The only reason I have had three and not switched is that I have the insurance offered through verizon to replace it. So they kept sending me the same phone.

The last one I received was more glossy than the first two. I figured "ok they changed the style a little bit". Ya, this one started to crack on the keypad within about a week of me having it. I didnt think anything of it really since it did not harm the functionality of the phone. Then today it decided to break again right in the same spot.

I was told by a verizon wireless employee at one of the kiosks that "oh yea that happens to all of them".

Just a pain.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

daywalker submitted this review of the LG VX-8350:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

At first I thought the phone was lots of fun, other than the boring gray color, with its easy access to the music player but then found that it had very little memory & had to buy bigger memory which was no real biggie since I was planning on getting more memory for a music player anyways. Then I found that if it was in my pocket, purse, bag, even in a case the music would start playing on its own because the buttons were too sensitive & there isn't an option to turn off the front buttons. The camera button is also way too sensitive & have taken many pictures of the inside of a case, jacket pockets, & purse. I am never sure if the music has been on or if the battery life is just poor. I'm thinking it maybe a little bit of both. It is also difficult to open with one hand.

My biggest aggravation with this phone is that the hinge breaks. I had my first one about a year when the hinge broke & I thought that maybe I had dropped it the previous day and not thought about it. I got a replacement & made sure to take greater care but still about 6 months later after speaking with a friend, I hang up & the hinge cracked. It does not take being dropped or poor care to make the hinge break. According to my bill I don't use much time on my phone so I know it's not an over usage that causes it to wear out.

I do like the reception & it keeps a strong signal where other phones have had the problems of being weaker. The internal antenna was good but it's not doing not doing any good if the battery is dead from the music player staying on or if it's broken from basic every day usage.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Groverkitty submitted this review of the LG VX-8350:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

This phone had problems since the day I got it. First of all, it makes some weird noise that sounds like the person on the other line hung up. It just goes silent for like 2 secs. I could never tell if they hung up or not without looking on the phone.

Another thing is that the phone had problems ringing! I have no idea why, but it didn't matter where I was and all of a sudden I would get a voice mail warning.

I'm getting a new phone today and I say good riddance!!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

gustavo49 submitted this review of the LG VX-8350:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

I needed a basic phone with an MP3 player that had controls on the front cover, and didn't have the shiny/chrome-y finish I saw on other phones. This was the only unit in the Verizon store that met these requirements.

PROS
-Call sound quality is good.
-MP3 player with one-touch activation and basic player controls on the front cover and screen, so you don't need to keep it open to play/pause/skip through songs.
-Camera and video capture work well for basic use. Self portrait feature also.
-Front screen shows incoming calls or texts when closed.
-Battery on standby has lasted 6 days + for me. Long phone calls and a lot of MP3 player use require a recharge within 2 days.
-Phone has a "standalone mode" that turns off incoming/outgoing calls. I activate this mode at the gym so I can use the MP3 player without having my tunes interrupted by incoming calls, text or voicemail. (Yea, I'm looking at you "Talk on the phone while on the treadmill" guys...) Any incoming calls are waiting for you when the standalone mode is deactivated.
-Additional memory storage available by adding a micro SD card. I have a 2Gb card for MP3's

CONS
-Yea, it's kinda ugly.
-No flash for the camera.
-There is a button on the side of the phone that activates the camera, very touchy and you will find yourself turning on the camera by accident constantly until you get used to it.
-MP3 player can't handle subfolders.
-Voice activation feature is either too sensitive or stone deaf. If this feature is important to you, look at another phone.
-Contacts only has room for names and phone numbers. No additional fields available for home or business addresses.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

IrishGirl727 submitted this review of the LG VX-8350:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

I've had this phone for a year, and I'm giving it a 4.0 since it serves all of my needs, which are pretty basic (translation: I want a phone I can talk to people on and that's it).

Cons:
Short battery life (after only talking for 20 minutes or so, I lose a bar). I charge my phone every day (and don't use it for anything but calling), so this is not really an issue for me.

The vibrate feature on the phone is so weak as to be useless.

The phone is lightweight and I was constantly dropping it. I got an inexpensive cover and that added some heft to it.

Pros:

Buttons are big and easy to navigate - this is esp. important to my parents who also have the 8350.

Ringer is loud, which I like - esp. when it's buried in my purse.

I think the fact that I don't have a lot of complaints about this phone makes it a good buy.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

assafl submitted this review of the LG VX-8350:

Overall rating: 3 (out of 5)

PROs:
- Looks.
- Easy to use keypad. Big keys, not mistaking between them.
- Navigating saved SMS's is fast.
- Navigation contacts list is fast.
- Supports 4GB (HD) microSD.

CONs:
- Caret (cursor as some call) occasionally goes missing between input mode transitions.
- After one single drop on the floor, produces the following problems:
- Random hang ups.
- No sound upon incoming calls.
- Web browser clumsy, navigation to the end of a page can dries you out.
- Cannot add new words to T9 dictionary.
- Menus not too friendly (e.g. BT, Phonebook).
- Battery life. Must charge everyday! Plus, battery warning comes some 10 minute before
running dry, not enough. Me old Nokia 3100: Charging once every 2-3 days, battery
warning comes 30 minutes before.

Software version: PX83PC04

Bottom line: It's an avarage phone, partly giving me what I want and partly what I don't.

Overall: 3/5

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

The one annoying factor is the external keys for the MP3 player. LG does not have an option for locking the external keys so anytime when you bump the outside you drain the batter b/c the lights come on. I don't use the MP3 player anyway. I got the phone b/c Verizon had a good deal and LG has a great name. Other than the external keys being annoying the phone is solid, I have the Verizon network and where I live the signal has never been lost. I will definitely buy another LG phone again.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

cyalaters submitted this review of the LG VX-8350:

Overall rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

If the basic phone applications are what you are looking for, then this is for you. I had the LG8300 and wish I could'a gotten that phone again for an upgrade. My wife has the 1st LG chocolate and amazingly she has a better phone reception than I do in our apartment, granted we live on the 1st floor. I like the flip phone look, nothing to be ashamed of, and you don't have to worry about it looking like a star trek communicator. However my only beef is that with my jabra blue tooth, I could not get it configured with the phone. Eventually I went to the store and they did it for me. So if you do not want the Hi-Tech and want to keep things basic this is for you.

PROS
~ Excellent Sound, Ring tones are Loud, Vibrate mode is loud, Alarms and Alerts are loud

~ Camera pics are good

~ Screen quality is good, both front and main

~ Battery last at least 3 days ( although iam not a heavy txter or a long yapper )

Cons

~ No Flash on camera

~ The back button gets in the way of the speaker phone button

~ Speaker phone gives a lot of feedback and is unbearable and has been made known to me by an "official" vzw operator that this is a flaw

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Kdog5000 submitted this review of the LG VX-8350:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

I got this phone to replace its predecessor, the LG 8300. The 8300 was an excellent phone that was top of the line when it came out. The 8350 is hardly that.

The main problem I had with the phone was the placement of the "clear" key. It is located directly below the down arrow and there is not a gap between the two buttons. Far too often, when pushing the arrow button I would hit the clear key and have to go through my whole process again. This would get very aggrevating when I would do it three times in a row, when specifically trying not to.

The second problem with the phone was the non-rounded edges of the seam that touches when the phone is closed. The 8300 had rounded edges that made it easy to flip open with one hand. The 8350 pretty much requires you to open it with two.

Lastly, and this may be petty, the phone feels cheap in your hand. I know phones are designed to be lighter than ever, but this phone felt like I should throw it away and get a new one after every call.

The features of the phone are all top notch and the call quality was very high. The phone functioned well, but the ergonomics of the phone were too poor for me, so it went back and I picked up a different phone. (LG Venus)

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Jackiepie submitted this review of the LG VX-8350:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

I just bought this phone last week in red and I must say that I'm very happy with it thus far. This was my 2 year upgrade from a 1st gen. Chocolate(of whichI went through 3 because of software failings..always get that extended warranty). It's a very sharp looking phone.
It's a light but sturdy phone. I love that I can read my texts on the front screen, but as of yet I haven't figured out how to go through multiple new texts. I like the animations, and it gets great reception.

The keys are audible even when the phone is set to silent, but it doesn't really bother me. The only thing i'm not too keen on is the placement of the speaker button.

I haven't managed to take any photos of my pocket or purse yet like some other users, but I can check my yahoo email, facebook, and myspace so I'm happy.

It's a good phone, and I've had many a motorolla and samsung phone in the past, but so far like the LG's best, this one so far being my favorite cell phone yet.

For the money it's everything I could want and then some. I highly recommend it.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

fencer4life120 submitted this review of the LG VX-8350:

Overall rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

The first week I got this this phone I never put it down. It wasn't untill two weeks later that I realized the very heartbreaking flaws this phone had.

First the Pros:
*Great reception, I can use it almost anywhere
*Great quality music player sound
*The external music controls allows you to keep music playing even when the phone is shut, so you can pause, play, and change immediate songs while it's shut.
*When all the songs from the artist goes off, the music player goes off conserving battery life.
*I can read text messages from outside the phone.
*Long lasting battery life.
*You can change the color setting of the overall phone just like you can with a computer or laptop.
*It has an alarm only mode which silences all sounds except the alarm.

Now the Cons:
*The play button for music gets pushed in wayy too easily, even when you put the phone on silent. So I have to lock the phone when it is in my pocket and unlock it to use it or else everyone in my Calculus class will hear Linkin Park screaming their heads off.
*Camera button is also to sensitive and I have recorded my pocket and taken random pictures.
*It is kind of difficult to open while I'm driving, or I only have one hand available for use.
*Kind of squeaky hinges
*It is a veryyy loud phone. Even on low it makes wayy too much noise.

It's a good phone overall, but is more directed as a music phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

jfm5440 submitted this review of the LG VX-8350:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

Preface this by saying all I really want from a cell phone is to make clear calls. that's it. Don't care about games, paying for ringtones, web surfing or playing music.

So...

I had an LG-4500 and overall loved it but wanted Bluetooth. My wife had a LG-8300 and it is quite nice but was no longer available so I went for the 8350. How different could it be?

Well, not that much but is is a naggingly annoying phone.

I also found that, for me, bluetooth is a pain what with always having to charge the earpiece. I am back to a corded hands-free.

Seriously thinking of re-activating the 4500.

Pros:
clear reception
Loud speaker phone

Cons:
external music player buttons are tall. My pants are always beeping as the fabric presses on the dang buttons. 8300 buttons are flush to the case.

I am constantly taking pictures of the inside of my pocket as a wallet or coin presses on the photo button. I even have some movies of my pocket.

Hinge squeaks a lot.

Verizon has done something to make BitPIM very balky with this phone. Ringtone uploads are dodgy at best.

The 4500 had a "driving mode" where it would announce a caller over the speaker or earpiece and ask "do you want to connect?" The 8350 has no such mode so in order to answer a call while earpiece is in I have to manually do so. A step back in voice control.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

jagguar submitted this review of the LG VX-8350:

Overall rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

Let me tell you right up front that I have a phone primarily for using it as a phone. I don't care much for all the new features that they're putting on phones. My previous phone was the 8100 and my wife had the 8300. The 8350 is almost identical with only a few minor changes. I loved the 8100. It was a great phone and being able to read texts on the front screen was very valuable so that was a necessity for a new phone.

I first tried the new Motorola RAZR V9m. That was a nice phone but it didn't live up to the LG 8100. It was nice and thin, but it has less features. So I returned it for the 8350.

The 3 main functions that I use a phone for are calling, texting, and the calendar. All the additional "new features" seem to be just about the same on all phones so I won't bother commenting on those.

- The 8350 has good reception, slightly better than the 8100, and about even with the V9m.
- Battery life is pretty good. Likely on par with the previous 2 models, maybe slightly better. I can't really tell. One thing that bothers me though is that it uses a slightly smaller battery than the 8100 and the 8300. I can't imagine why. This keeps me from being able to use my old batteries on this but it's also a smaller capacity battery.
- You can read texts on the front but the resolution seems to be smaller than the 8100 so you have to scroll more to read the same msg.
- On the 8100, I could read calendar alarms on the front. The 8300 requires me to open the phone. This is obnoxious.

One other thing I've noticed is that the main screen turns off after about 30 secs while talking on the phone. I'm sure this helps save power but it forces me to have to hit a button to see the screen again. And hitting a button uses that button, so if I hit the down button, it takes me straight to the calendar.

The phone looks and feels kinda cheap, it's not easy to open with 1 hand, and it doesn't look like anything special. I liked the 8100 better, but it's still better than the rest.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
