azurecrimsonrose submitted this review of the Nokia 6085 / 6086:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

For years, my family and I have owned Nokia cell phones and when I got the Nokia 6085, I was excited. In the short time I had the device, I got a lot of use out of it. I loved the physical, raised, buttons and the call quality was great. The speaker phone had a good quality, but the screen was a bit small. I liked the blue back light on the external display and I enjoyed the features that it offered. I liked how basic it was. The call quality is good and I did not experience the negative things that I read about in other reviews. All in all, a great phone and I recommend it.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

hepresearch submitted this review of the Nokia 6085 / 6086:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

I had this AT&T Nokia 6085 for about a year, from May 2008 to May 2009. I used it on and off, as I also had another favorite phone of mine (Nokia 9300) at the same time, so usage on it was light at best. It performed well, and I especially liked having the FM radio built into the phone, as that seemed to me to be a unique feature. The music player worked excellent as well, but would not stream over my Bluetooth like I could do on the Nokia 9300; then again, this is really a more basic phone, so I shouldn't expect that. My pet peeve was that I always had to connect a Nokia headset before the FM radio would turn on... I can't stand wired headsets to begin with.

PROS
- good signal strength in the Harrisburg/York/Lancaster PA area
- battery life was excellent, I can go three days without charging the phone even with normal use
- will make calls on no bars, as long as the operator logo is visible
- music player and FM radio combo

CONS
- a better camera would have been nice
- the phone is bulky for its feature set (though it is a fairly tough phone as a result)
- the outer display seems to be a sizeable step down from the older Nokia 6103's full color outer display

On a side note, I had the black 6085, and my wife at the time had the pink 6085. Her phone had to be exchanged twice under warranty, and mine did perfectly fine. First time it was a problem with the web browser, and would also freeze up intermittently. I don't remember what it was the second time around, and unfortunately I never got the software version. Mine worked perfectly fine, though, and never quit working.

I'm sure there are a couple of bad apples of this phone out there, but the one I got was good, and worked well. So, if you are looking at this phone, don't buy it thinking it is a feature phone; think of it as a basic phone with some nice features included. Overall, decent showing by Nokia on this one.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

behemoth85 submitted this review of the Nokia 6085 / 6086:

Overall rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

Ah the standard "free" phone. This is one of many. And with free phones you can either get an excellent deal, a "mediocre" phone, or one that is completely pathetic.

This one falls into the "mediocre" category hands down.

PROS:

-Very simple key layout, and raised keys make it easy to dial.

-Large numbers on the screen when punched in.

-Respectable battery life.

CONS:

-Its impossible to hear the ringer on this. Many customers have returned it sorely for this reason alone.

-Vibration feels a little weak.

-At times the speaker feels crackly, and sometimes feels shorted out.

-The display can seem washed out and hard to read.

-Camera takes rather disappointing pictures, even by VGA standards.

-Signal can be shaky at times.

Not bad, but there are better FREE phones out. I'd recommend shelling out a few extra bucks and moving to a Moto EM330 if you're looking in the "plain vanilla" phone territory.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Mmcdowell submitted this review of the Nokia 6085 / 6086:

Overall rating: 3 (out of 5)

This is the 2nd one I have had. The first one and the second one after about a year, died. The flip screen somehow gets messed up and goes blank.

Pros
*has had good signal service (at&t) although I live in a well populated area
*lightweight
*records sounds great
*holds lots of text messages

Cons
*does not predict my texts too well
*can be slow to change menus sometimes but not as bad as other phones I have had
*I can hear others on speaker phone but they cannot hear me worth a hoot.
*camera is not so hot
*have to push too many buttons to put info in the calendar
*battery started out great, then went downhill from there. have to charge it everyday
*screen hard to read in the sunlight. Does not adjust the contrast well enough.

I don't use this phone for anything other than calling, calendar, texting and the occasional picture. I am really frustrated that the screens on the flip portion wear out so quickly. When I get a phone, I want it to last more than a year.

I will not be replacing it with another Nokia.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

icedoghans submitted this review of the Nokia 6085 / 6086:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

OK, being a series 60 fanatic does not help in buying and using any other phone. But I bought this on a whim for a friend to use in Europe, for emergency reasons. It was factory unlocked so it does not have the ATT mumbo jumbo. When she got back she gave it back to me.

It has been my reliable phone ever since.

PROs...

Opera Mini works great on it.

Loudspeaker is loud ... I listen to MP3s this way... great noise maker for naps. I am using a 1Meg microSD.

Signal is the best I have seen in this hell of a cell phone hole where I live. Prior to this phone I was considering VOIP capable cell phone on Tmobile [my current service].

photos are great for VGA.

Battery life is incredible. It is amazing how long a phone will last if the antenna is designed correctly.

CONs...

I wish series 40 had an application to post directly to my wordpress.com blog. Currently I use Flickr to work around this, sending an MMS of a photo of one of my paintings in real time.

I wish this phone had a 1.3mega camera.

I wish Tmobile would buy a clue and get a series 60 phone with a camera in their lineup for the USA.

Waiting for a Nokia E55 USA to come out. Hey TMO wake up! Right now I am obviously a Nokia guy who prefers magenta over blue.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

ATnT Nokia submitted this review of the Nokia 6085 / 6086:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

I know the Nokia 6085 with AT&T has been getting mixed reviews: you either love it or you hate it.

Me, I happen to fall into the love it category. The phone may not be very stylish to you, but I have it in black and I like it.

Now the pros:

-great battery life
-easy to use keypad
-decent ear volume
-decently loud ringers (depending upon the tone you use)
-the display is decent, a little bit on the grainy side, but not bad
-the phone has a lot of nice features for the music lover, including the Radio function, which is awesome!
-SIGNAL, best I've ever used on the AT&T network! This phone has never dropped a call on me.
-the menu speed is decent, if you keep minimal downloads on the phone the menu gets pretty fast.
-internal antenna, no need to worry about breaking anything, and you don't get poked.

Cons: I wish the clock display could be enlarged, especially on the small screen. If you set the small outside screen savor to digital clock, it then turns big, but aside from that, it's small. But no biggie!

Overall, if you are looking for a solid performing clamshell phone, the Nokia 6085 with AT&T will deliver that and more!

Thanks!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Burger Time submitted this review of the Nokia 6085 / 6086:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

The Nokia 6085 was an awful phone in my opinion when it first came out. I played with the model in the AT&T store and it had an awful screen and it was buggy.

Well then, the other day I went and bought one (in black) because I wanted a decent clamshell phone with good battery life. I was surprised. This phone has improved over the years and the screen is better now than it was in the original model.

The phone has a loud ringer, great ear volume, and it gets decent signal. I got a leather case for it, so it looks sleek.

The phone is solid and it comes with some nice music features.

The menu is really fast for a Nokia (most new Nokias have slow menus nowadays)

Overall, I am impressed. It's a good phone, I am going to keep it.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Assurion sent this phone as a replacement for it because I have insurance. NOT comparable if you ask me. The 2600 is far superior.

mikemund submitted this review of the Nokia 6085 / 6086:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

Got two of these, a pink one for my wife and a black one for myself. Previous phones were Moto V190s.

Pros:
Good quad-band reception.
Vibrates better than the Moto.
Bluetooth, something the Moto didn't have.
Good looks and keyboard feel.
Like the speed-dialing and keyboard locking feature.
The theme with the moving hot-air balloon is awesome!

The Galaxy Balls game is addictive.

Cons:
Needs louder ringtones. My wife is especially critical here, she has to go with the ringtone that sounds like a old-fashioned phone ringing. I don't have this problem as bad. One suggestion would be to keep the vibrating alert on, as I often feel the vibration before I hear the ringtone.

Had to try two different Bluetooth devices before I found one that the phone could find, though in all fairness, that may have been the Bluetooth device, not the phone. Had no problem whatsoever connecting with the second device.

The camera is not the best, but if I want to take a picture of something bad enough, I do have a 8.2 mp digital camera.

Battery life is subpar, but at least it charges more quickly than the Moto did.

The voice dialing, as was indicated in another review does leave much to be desired, but with a combination of voice inflection and re-labeling and/or intentional misspelling of some of the entries (e.g. Wahlgreens for Walgreens), I have overcome most of the issues.

All in all, I would recommend this phone to anyone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

dolittle submitted this review of the Nokia 6085 / 6086:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

AT&T gives this phone out free,, but its not worth it. I've had this phone for 1 year and I'm on my 3rd phone. AT&T has a good warranty service but its only good for the first year. If my currant phone dies, I'll remove my card and put it in my old phone and finish out my second year with my old phone. Also,, the vibration mode is wimpy. I work in conditions where I have to switch the phone to vibrate, I miss a lot of calls because I can't feel the vibration. I wouldn't select this phone again.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

bunglegirl submitted this review of the Nokia 6085 / 6086:

Overall rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

I was very excited to receive this phone a year ago. It looks great, has some pretty neat features and the camera isn't half bad for a cell phone. It worked great for about 4 months but started having problems shortly after that. My biggest complaint was when I finally hooked it up to the HotSpots@Home I started having a problem with dropped calls. There were times I would have to call people back 5 and 6 times before I finally gave up. Another problem was the freezing. It's very random, so I couldn't say what causes it, but the phone will occasionally freeze while in the middle of a text and more rarely while answering a call. It also didn't seem to like either blue-tooth model I have as it would emit a high pitched screech from time to time. Very painful when the blue-tooth is on your ear.

Pros:
Nice feel. Not too heavy, not too light and it is comfortable to talk on.
Buttons are great for texting and the phone keeps up with fast fingers
Wi-Fi is great if you can get it to work properly
Decent camera, but don't use the zoom
Memory card port is in a convenient location

Cons:
Takes forever to get through to cust service/tech support if you have the Wi-Fi feature turned on
Phone freezes unexpectedly and the only way to fix it is to remove battery
Sound becomes crackly when the Wi-Fi is on
Not enough memory and battery power to support Wi-Fi, Blue-Tooth and regular antenna's

Over all this was a good phone, but after having it replaced 4 times for the same issues, I have finally given up on it.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I have had the phone for one day and while I really like the phone I get very poor signal in my area- North Iowa, so I've decided to go with a different phone and phone company. Best Buy is happy to refund me for the phone-Yeah Best Buy!!!, but cannot for the phone card since it has already been activated, told me to contact AT&T. They were of no help and simply told me that I am out my $50.00 because they do not have a way to refund it through there computers. Refused even to send me a check or cut a deal with Best Buy and offer me some sort of refund/discount. I will never use AT&T again, and a company that is willing to steal my $50.00 is willing to steal yours. Buyer beware.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

tszefr submitted this review of the Nokia 6085 / 6086:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

Once I was a Nokia fan but they have done nothing but disappoint me for quite some time with the likes of 2610 and 2366. Not terribly fond of N75 either. This phone is surprisingly pleasant. Plenty loud (2366 wasn't) and decent display (my 2610s weren't). I think the silver looks ugly. AT&T sent me a black one and I am impressed. Humble opinion is this a far better phone than the current 3.5 or so aggregate rating here would lead you to believe. Cannot call it a 5 but it is excellent.

Here then are the big plusses:
* Keypad -- very fine
* Display -- not outstanding but still good
* Connectivity USB and Blue tooth
* SD Memory card (but watch your size)
* Camera
* Music player not bad
* Pretty good speaker
* Standard SD card, hot swap-able
* Feels sturdy
* D-pad good separation (unlike 3220)
* Java good, for Opera Mini and Gmail.
* Somewhat hack-able

The minuses:
* Won't use a 4 gig SD card
* A touch on the large side
* Somewhat heavy
* No real email client found (discounting Mobile Email)

Now while I am noting heavy and large, those points are counter balanced by "sturdy." Reminiscent of the iDEN boat anchors. The shape/feel is somewhat like the V195. Gets my hearty endorsement if its features meet your needs.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

smythe submitted this review of the Nokia 6085 / 6086:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

Nokia uses a "...speaker-independent voice dialing (SIND) that creates a voice tag for each new Contact; it does not have a menu option for the end user to create their own voice tags..." meaning that unless you sound like a fruity computer with a French accent, you cannot use the voice activated dialing.

One of my co-workers told how he had a Nokia about 3 years ago that he could enter the voice tag in using his own voice. According to him, it wasn't very reliable, as it would often dial completely different contacts. After spending about 2 hours trying to get the new system to work, I can say it is now completely unreliable as in that two hours I was unable to get the phone to dial one number.

About that same time (3 years ago) I had a Sony-Ericson phone that I could enter in my own voice tags and never had a problem. Since I have another free phone available on the plan, I will be picking up a Sony and placing the Nokia on the shelf or in the trash.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

gunr5 submitted this review of the Nokia 6085 / 6086:

Overall rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

I've had this phone since May and got it unlocked from Nokia. It has been a great phone and done more than I expected.

Pros:
Music Player
Flash Support
Games Aren't Demos (At least on the unlocked one)
Great Reception
Micro SD Slot

Cons:
Tiny, Washed Out, Crappy Screen
Camera was put in for the hell of it.
Boring, Simple Menus (You can re-organize them though.)
When you send a message it says "Message saved for sending." and that's it, you see a box with an arrow shooting out at the top and you don't even know if it's sent or not.
After normal use, the chrome on the navigation keys (the chrome shiz) is flaking off.
Tiny amount of memory, get a card!!

This is definitely a talkers phone, the keys are large and easy to get used to, so it could be a texters phone. The inbox is great and lets you hold as many messages as you have room for (and since everything of mine is on a 2GB SD card, I have about 5.0 MB for text messages!!)

The music player works well and allows you to sort by artist, album, that sorta thing, the navigation is slow and simple, you wait about two seconds before the song actually changes.

Oh, and on other (older) Nokia flip phones (6102/6102i/6103), you could close the phone and it wouldn't do anything, there is a setting in this phone that makes it work like every other phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

purplepeony submitted this review of the Nokia 6085 / 6086:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

So far the best thing about it is the nice pink color. I picked it because it was free with a 2 year contract. I liked my other Nokia phones in the past, but this is horrible. I actually liked the cheap one I had to buy before this one after I spilled coffee on my expensive phone. Apparently the speaker phone option works ok, but I don't really use that option much.

So, my main problem with this phone? The sound quality is really bad. I have AT&T in Chicago, IL and when I'm having a conversation it sounds like the other person is in a tunnel. I have to keep asking them to repeat themselves--I find cell to cell is worse than my cell to a land line. Another problem is that after hanging up when having to press menu choices, the phone does not return to the main screen; instead the "1,4, 7,etc that I had to push stays on the display and eats up the battery life." You must open the phone up again after hanging up and clear off any numbers dialed during the call. I could go on, but you get the picture.

Cons:
-short battery life
-terrible sound quality
-menus not user friendly/intuitive

Pros:
-color of phone and physical design
-picture quality pretty good
-ring tones decent

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
