vincent17616 submitted this review of the Samsung SCH-i760:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

Been looking for a decent PDA phone without data plan. Narrow it down to the Samsung i760 since it is inexpensive and available on Ebay. I activated on Page Plus plan and so far it is pretty good!
Likes:
1) Sturdy phone with a well build keyboard. Keys are well spaced and gave good feedback.
2) Screen is only 2.8" but is bright and clear. I left it at the lowest setting and it is still very readable.
3) Built-in wifi. Works fine at home to do short online session.
4) Price is right with all the other new phones coming out. But this one suits me fine without paying an arm and leg!
5) Lots of apps available, though I wouldn't want to install too many. Might hamper the phone use and makes it unstable.
6) Phone call is loud and clear. Speaker phone has a lot of volume, I set it at its lowest and it is still loud.

Dislikes:
1) Like others said, the side answer key does push the phone (slide)but since I remapped the key to my front soft key that is no longer an issue.
2) Screen is small.
3) Battery life is OK. Last thru the day without heavy usage, plus my display is at lowest setting. I am using the standard size. Since I want to keep the phone as slim as possible, so you go up to their extended battery, usage time should definitely goes higher.

I really like the phone so far. Loaded Mobile Shell which makes it even more usable. I only installed a few apps that I use, keeping the system clean and stable. I also upgrade to WM 6.1 though I didn't notice too much different from WM 6.0. Overall I am real happy with the phone and would definitely recommend it to others.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

tommyz123 submitted this review of the Samsung SCH-i760:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

I've had this phone (and 5 others) for close to 2 years now. I can see now why VZW only carried it for about 8 months. My original phone had WM 6.0, this OS in itself would make anyone mental. I think the 6.0 stood for the number of resets the phone required per day. Later, (I think phone replacement #4) I received a phone w/WM 6.1. This improved the operation of this phone slightly. I am not someone who loads a bunch of apps, so I don't know what the deal was. As for everyone claiming "ROCK SOLID"... Every single one of my phones had buttons that stuck, and a slide out keyboard that became wobbly after about 2 months of use. I don't consider myself hard on phones, and keep them clean & in a case all the time. About the only thing this phone was good for was the Outlook calendar. If you're looking to buy one of these mini boat anchors on eBay, I would think twice... That is unless you like to be tortured on a daily basis. F Windows Mobile... Blackberry Tour, here I come.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I never get bored with it, theres so many features with the phone its unbelievable. I love the touch screen and keyboard, they are both very easy to use. The only thing that bugs me is how bulky it is, but on the plus side, I probably won't lose it as often. To sum it all up, this phone is great.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

alkan submitted this review of the Samsung SCH-i760:

Overall rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

I would say, this phone is good, but it doesn’t deserve 5 out of 5. I have had this phone for 8 months now, & plan to get another smart phone when my contract with Verizon expires in another 2 months.

First the GOOD points: This is a rock solid phone. Sound quality / speaker is excellent, call connectivity is very good too. Bluetooth connectivity with the headset & transferring data to & from PC via BT is also good. My last 2 phones were Palm 700p & 755p, they were TERRIBLY bad performers. This beats Palm on every issue. In fact this has yet to freeze up on me, unlike what some other folks have commented. The only place where I often get the browser stuck is when I am surfing ebay. 2 batteries in the package is a good idea.

CONS:
Regarding Windows Mobile 6, it needed to be updated to 6.1, which in fact is not a straight forward process. I wish the “windows update” icon would do that, but that in fact is a worthless icon. This needs to be synced with a PC to perform an update. The PC sync is really sloppy, & would start synchronizing things without your permission " messes Microsoft Outlook on PC without asking. Browser lacks functionality, Microsoft should have used the IE-7 to enhance mobile versions.

Cell phone Talk & End-Call buttons are poorly placed, especially the End-Call button can unintentionally be pushed & there goes your call. The lighted keys do not stay lit & there is no setting for it, in fact the key-pad is a nuisance in the dark. Phone should have a setting to adjust back-ground light to stay lit but dim during call. Bluetooth icon does not indicate from the main screen if the headset is paired. When browsing, battery icon disappears.

Overall, it is not a bad phone.

Enjoy.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

bidder5000 submitted this review of the Samsung SCH-i760:

Overall rating: 0 (out of 5)

this is the worst phone by far that I have ever owned. In looking at it, it seems like it would have potential but it just can not handle all of it's features. perhaps my phone has major bugs, Verizon is sending me a new phone. I will update after I receive

First of all, I use this phone as a workhorse, all of its features are used by me so if you are not using it like a workhorse perhaps you will not experience its problems

- locks up at least 5 times a day
- upon lock up I have to do a soft reset, when I do this, it wipes out all of my information for wireless sync. then I have to spend time setting up my wireless sync again, to have it only go down and wipe out again throughout the day, this is so frustrating I have stopped using active sync to my work.
- when I send an email from the phone, it takes days to get delivered. I tested my phone because colleges would say they didn't get my email. I would find that the email would sometimes take 4days to go out, average was 2 days.
- when I attempt to send text messages, it sends them before you are done! how annoying is that, a half message!
- when trying to check my voice mail, the screen constantly pops up so you have to click on the screen each time you want to click on a number
- when making a call with an extension, the screen pops up so you can not easily just push the numbers, it doesn't recongize the numbers until you click the screen each time.

this phone is just bad, beware! I have a business assosiate that has the same phone and is having all the same problems, they are actually switching carriers over the phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

There were several freezes due to my ignorance: 1. delete old texts, 2. close all running programs periodically. Mobile six is working great but I've only had the phone 48 hours. Overall, Pros; Ease of use, color schemes, great coverage(South), WiFi, EVDO, texting and email, great battery due to extended battery. Cons: Just wish it were candy bar style, otherwise I would give it 5.0 score.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

jc1125 submitted this review of the Samsung SCH-i760:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I've owned this phone for a week. I was deciding between the XV6900, the I-Phone and the SCH i760. I am glad I decided to get this phone.

This is my first PDA/Smartphone. This phone does everything advertised. I use it to view content fromt the internet, SSM, MMS, listen to music, email, budgets on professional office suite, etc. I was interested in Windows Mobile 6.0 and like that I can add 3rd Party applications.

The download speeds are fast with the Evdo connectivity. The phone also comes equipped with WiFi, and that works fine. I walked into my college and immediately the phone prompted me.

I am a power emailing, and while I also considered the Blackberry phones from Verizon none stood out to me. The keyboard on the SCH i760 is great. I can use it to compose long emails comfortably on the subway.

The stylus is conveniently located on the side. I did use it a lot when I first got the phone, but more and more I am beginning to use my finger. I generally have no problems opening applications and programs on the touch-screen.

Pros: fully featured PDA/Smartphone for the email power-user, business executive, fast connectivity with 3G EVDO/WiFi, excellent keyboard, Windows Mobile 6.0, Touch Screen, Fast processor

Cons: lacks access to Verizon's V-Cast services, and Windows Live application, Can't play YouTube out of the box (need to load a 3rd party application)

*I always use the Task Manager to close applications I don't use. Although the phone has enough memory to operate several applications simultaneously I developed the habit of closing apps I am not using. I have not had the phone freeze up even once.

Cheers! - from NYC

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

ebell98 submitted this review of the Samsung SCH-i760:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

I have had this phone now for almost 60 days and I have to preface by saying I am a gadget geek, but this phone still stumps me. My idea of a good phone is one that you can quickly move through the different apps and not have to think much about doing it. I still have to stop and figure out how to make phone calls on this phone. What should take maybe two steps takes four with this phone. The hard keys are not well placed, and I find myself hanging up on calls accidentally. Sound quality is mediocre at best and it kills your ear if you are on it for longer than 10 minutes. When you flip the phone open to use the keyboard, it has a very long lag to turn the back light on. This is very frustrating in the dark as you can see nothing until the light comes on. I would recommend passing on this phone until Samsung revises.

Good things for this phone are the way you can dial/spell a name and It has great reminders for the calenders.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I've had it about three weeks now, and liked until I read a review on a different website about an add-on piece of s/w from everybody's fave site for applications called SPB Pocket Plus. Now, I LOVE THIS PHONE. If only Mr. Gates had added this functionality to WM6 from the start.

Great phone, camera works very well, outlook and mobile office are very handy to have. love the fact that you can alpha dial from the 10 key pad, and your contacts come up in the phone application. I love the qwerty keyboard for texting and email.

Would I buy this again? you betcha. Will I buy the i770? Only if it has major improvements (hard to do IMO), and I have the need to roam globally.

Cons? The battery life, but Samsung was thoughtful in providing 2 batteries for us.

The data cable doesn't charge, bad for tethering, also needs a desk charger to chg the 2nd battery.

Only minor cons, but LOVE this PHONE!!!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I have been using the i760 now for 5 weeks, have not had any issue with this phone at all.

Pros:
Very nice solid feel
Nice placement of bottons, easy to use

Nice to have #key's on front of phone

The slide out keyboard is a very big improvement from the i730

Great speaker phone, very good sound

Active synch works great with MS Outlook

Great battery life

Cons:
Camera could be better, but ok in a pinch

Only thing that prevented me from giving this phone a 5 rating is because it dont come with a holster or synch/charge cradle
had to buy these items seperate.

Owerall, I will higly recomend this phone to anyone who need's this type of phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

The build quality is awesome. The phone button design is okay. But the rest of the phone, screen and other functions are excellent.

The other excellent functionality this phone has is that it has number keys on the outside. Which is also huge positive factor.

Overall, if you like to have a pda (not a smartphone), would like it to have number keys, and great keyboard then this is the phone for you.

Cons:

Battery life is short
Outside key placement may be uncomfortable for some.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

epo5000 submitted this review of the Samsung SCH-i760:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

Phones I've had:
LG vx8100
PPC 6600
of course, SCH-i760
I've had this phone for about 2 weeks now, and I'm quite happy. The phone isn't perfect, but still quite good compared to my 6600.

Pros:
WIFI - this feature works great, and is a great alternative to verizons 45 dollar plan.
Slide Out Keyboard - oriented nicely, nice tactile feel, good size
High Sound Quality - Beautiful, clear voice and ring tone, even in speaker phone
Loud Bluetooth Volume - with the 6600 I had to struggle to hear anyone even with volume maxed out - now I can hurt my ear if I want
Stylus Placement - it'll stay in place unlike the 6600
Form Factor - Fits well in my hand when I'm on the phone

Cons
The biggest complaint is the most often repeated one:
No Charger/Sync Dock - the 6600 was nice in that I could just slap it down and not worry about it
Most of the others are small little quirks
No Profile Brightness - the ability to change brightness based on whether the thing is charging or not
Can't Draw in Word - the 6600 had this ability
No Bluetooth Indicator - Nothing on the screen says whether the headset is connected
Picsel Browser - Mostly works good, but can't load phonescoop
Camera - Rather slow and overly sensitive to light, but I didn't get the phone for the camera

Overall a very good phone, and I would recommend it to anyone for a good PDA style phone. I couldn't play with the data connection on the cell network cause I refuse to pay the 45 bucks for internet on top of what I'm already paying

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

That was my only hestitation at first, but it doesn't take long to get used too, and having the keypad on front is great.

Overall I think this is the best PDA Verizon has to date. I tried the Voyager for a few days, it was Fun but not functional.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

The more I explore it's features the better it gets. For instance it took me a couple of weeks before I realized the phone could announce calls and messages.

The battery could be better but I have two extended batteries and that problem is solved. Once and a while I hang up on my caller by mistake but I'm getting better.

I have had a treo for a couple of years, it was a good phone but wanted a change. This phone has many more features.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

boredbillj submitted this review of the Samsung SCH-i760:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

Note - I said great DEVICE... not great PHONE.

The i760 is much more than a phone. If you're looking for something just to impress your friends and look cool, then you may not be happy with the i760. The call quality isn't as good as other phones I have had and tried, but it is good compared to other PDA/smart phones.

This phone is very well built. I had the Verizon xv6800 for about two weeks before this Samsung. I was very unimpressed with teh xv6800. The lack of numbers on the outside was quite a pain, and the device just felt poorly built. I got the impression it would break someday if I used it regularly.

I swapped it for the i760 and have not had any regrets. The call quality in the i760 is tons better. Functionally, they are about the same. One small caveat - I really liked the wheel on the xv6800. I wish the i760 had that.. but if I never had the 6800 first, I probably would have never thought about it.

Overall, this is simply the best pda/smart phone that verizon offers, and I've had them all - including the Treo's. In all honesty, I would rate it between a 4 and 4.5. I gave it a 5 in this review to help even out the 1's from the idgits who post but give absolutely no reason why they don't like it.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

jjkage submitted this review of the Samsung SCH-i760:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

Listen, I know this will probably get flamed I'm sure, but before you do just read what I am saying. Well first off I have had about 6 phones in the past six months, my first smart phone however was a blackberry I got a couple of months ago, great phone was just having software issues. Saw the glitz and glam of the samsung and jumped all over it. It was awsome, like a laptop in the palm of my hand, I felt like a rocket scientist. Well things were going great until my big floppy ears kept turning everything off when I was in a call. The sound was full of echo and most of the programs and shortcuts would end up not working at one point or another. It is a well built phone other than the recessed screen, I understand why they did it I just don't like it. I feel that there is something wrong with owning a top of the line phone and constantly walking around with a grease covered screen because lets face it how many people walk around with one of those eye glasses cleaning rags, not me thats for sure. Loud ring and it was still a pretty good phone. I just traded it and got my blackberry 8830 back.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

spanky86 submitted this review of the Samsung SCH-i760:

Overall rating: 1.5 (out of 5)

I bought this phone back in November and immediately had to return it because when someone would call it would take my phone about 20 seconds to start ringing. Because of this, I missed nearly all calls. The second model I got started having problems once my three week return period was up. I could not send or receive picture messages, every 30 seconds it would try connecting to the Internet causing a new screen to open during the middle of whatever I was doing which had to be closed, someone would call me but my phone would not ring, the same with text messages, some of those I never recieved either, and the phone was very slow. Shifting from horizontal to vertical views almost always froze the screens. I just got a LG Voyager and am very happy with it. I learned never again to buy a phone that doubles as a computer. It did have some convenient features but the problems I had with it far outweighed anything good about the phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Rocketmahn submitted this review of the Samsung SCH-i760:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

Random thoughts on my 1st smartphone from an old guy:

BIG PEEVE: The cheap plastic holster (sold separately).
I have gone though two in 6 weeks! It just pops apart and flys off of my belt. It it a great "holster" design (holds the phone great) - now if they could only get the holster to stop breaking off of the "belt clip" and bouncing my phone on the pavement...!
Time to go to Best Buy at lunch and get a belt "pouch".

Pros:
Touch screen works well - get a $8.00 screen cover/saver to protect it.
Phone seems plenty fast - I use Outlook synced with exchange. I alway close programs with Task Manager not the X.

Battery life is good - I use the extended battery that came with it - it's good for a couple of days - phone is always "on" - I talk about 20-30 minutes a day on phone, check email, appointments etc, and have never, ever text messaged in my life.

Cons:
1) Can't open a passworded Office Doc. (Mobile 6.x issue - "Feature"!).
2) Holster - see above
3) Separate USB/Power cable
4) Voice command responses seem to come out of speaker on back of phone and not out of telephone ear hole (harder to hear in noisy environement).
5) Always hitting some button
6) 200+ Page Manual is only on CD, hard-copy would be nice to keep in glove box.
7)

Hints:
1) Windows Mobile 6.1 is out, so download and update it as the phone comes loaded with 6.0.
2) Someone complained about the "small" stylus - Hey! it extends to full size - like an old car radio antenna!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
