narn3049 submitted this review of the Kyocera Marbl / K132 / Velvet:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

Excellent and I wish I could give more then a 5.0

Well the story begins when I had the VM Royale. The phone looked all beat up and I had ended up getting this. It worked fine, loading typing speed was a little laggy, but once i continyed with the phone like kept using and typing it was fine and fun.

The only con is that the flip felt a little loose like it might snap off.

P.S. IDK if this matters but i lost my charger and had the phone die, and i switched back to the royale. Now i am the happy owner of a JAX

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

The colors look a bit faded and washed out.. again $13 phone.. I'm glad it's color

+The ringtones seem loud enough for my needs

+This is a great phone if you need one right away and don't wish to have a camera, video recorder, MP3 player or basically carry a mini computer with you in your pocket...

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

mhoover5 submitted this review of the Kyocera Marbl / K132 / Velvet:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

ok so i read the reviews on here and thought, it can't be that bad. surely not as bad as they say. BUT IT IS!!! it takes up to 5 seconds just to pull up contacts!!! very slow, the screen is also BAD it wont change contrast for me it just stays the same, maybe its just mine. but its so slow for internet too it takes about a minute on AVERAGE to pull up a page some are shorter but some are longer. once you get the page loaded you then have to attempt to scroll through the page which if you have images on is pretty much immpossible unless you have like 30 minutes to spare when checking your email. the speaker is terrible too i downloaded a ringtone which is a waste bacause it can't be set as a txt message tone and it has no bass at all it made a hip hop song song like country it was so bad

pros: cheap (doesn't mean its a good value though because its not)

cons: speaker, speed, functionality, web browsing, screen,

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

brendamobley submitted this review of the Kyocera Marbl / K132 / Velvet:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

I bought my Marbl with Virgin Mobile and I'm very happy with it.

Pros: Cheap rates with Virgin Mobile! You don't have to be afraid of running up a bill.

Good sound quality, clear and loud.

Navigation is very intuitive and I was making calls and receiving voice mail in no time.

Virgin Mobile's web service is based on the Openwave browser. This is basic WAP browsing, but I've been able to get a lot of functionality out of it by using WAP sites and by preprocessing regular sites through the search service at http://m.yahoo.com. As soon as I figured out how to add bookmarks, I was rolling. Virgin Mobile does not seem to be metering my data use, either - again no fear of high cost.

I had never texted on a phone before, and I was surprised how easy it was to pick up this skill. By using Yahoo! mobile Messenger, I was able to do light messaging, and I was able to view my Yahoo! freemail in text format.

Cons: If you're used to a high end phone, the color screen will not have a high enough resolution or size for you. For what I do, this is not really an issue.

The Openwave web browser, on Virgin Mobile's connection, is slow! This wasn't a real issue with WAP sites or Yahoo! Mobile's own pages, but I felt it when I had Yahoo! preprocess regular pages. If you need something more like real web browsing, you will need to choose a higher level phone capable of Opera Mobile.

But overall, this is a great phone for a young person or anyone on a budget, and for a backup phone for anyone. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

advtechdude submitted this review of the Kyocera Marbl / K132 / Velvet:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

So, you're on a budget and you need a phone. You walk into your local Wal Mart in hopes to find a good cheap pay-as-you-go device, and you come across the display of the Marbl. for $20 you think "hey, it'll do what I need and keep me connected," but the saying "You pay what you get for," is the perfect motto for this phone.

To begin with, when I first pulled this phone out of it's package, I felt like I was handling a child's toy. It was made of a thin hard plastic that you would feel used on a toy gun, so it felt like it could fall apart in my hand. Another big issue I had with this phone was the text messaging. While yeah, texting was capable, it was not moving as fast as I would have liked. So typing out a message became tedious simply because I would have to wait for the typed text to catch up with me. The display on the phone was pretty low res and ugly, displaying some very unattractive colors. The preloaded ringtones were something awful. Very generic and grainy sounding tones. Yes, you could download a ringtone or two, but with how low the volume stayed, you really didn't want to waste your money. As with most Kyocera phones in the Virgin Mobile lineup, this phone had no bluetooth, so if you are thinking you are getting this phone and it has the bluetooth, think again. Last but not least the keypad felt very odd on this phone. Hard plastic buttons that almost clicked when you pressed them made me not want to text at all.

Now for the good... Voice calls. This phone was great with the calls, never actually had calls drop or anything. Not bad quality voice and I was told that the mic was pretty sharp and I was heard clearly.

So, in closing... If you are buying a phone just to make voice calls, this is a pretty decent phone for $20. If you are wanting any of the bells and whistles, even text, look for something a little better. The extra money spent will be worth it.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Ace of Spades submitted this review of the Kyocera Marbl / K132 / Velvet:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

I got this phone as something easy to text my friends with. something cheap and easy to use. Well now i need everything it DOESN'T have to offer. I love playing music and sampling music off phone's Internet. the only problem, i need a friends phone to do that. sound reception is poor, lack of battery life (i have to recharge every nite and i cant even leave it on for more than a day), lack of, well, STUFF! no front display, no camera, no really spectacular graphics, it looks bad(my friends make fun of it and call it the Barbie phone), etc. There is maybe one good thing- if you are looking for a cheap phone for emergencies only, or you will use a phone maybe once or twice a week, here's your phone! Mine was a mere 20 bucks.
overall-
PROS: CONS:
Small graphics
light reception
cheap features
durable load time
no antenna battery life
looks

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

jhresch submitted this review of the Kyocera Marbl / K132 / Velvet:

Overall rating: 0 (out of 5)

This is the single worst cell phone I have ever seen. Ever. Period. There is not a single worse cell phone product that has ever existed.

Pros:
The screen is vibrant and colorful

Cons:

I am not exaggerating: This phone doesn't do a single thing well. Not one.

Too Slow to Text:
composing a text message on this phone is so incredibly frustrating due to the phenomenally slow speed of the thing, that it is nearly impossible. It doesn't help that the interface for text messaging on it is total and utter crap too.

Slow as hell:
Being too slow to actually work properly is the primary feature of this phone.

Almost No Compatibility:
There are NO GAMES. AND, regardless of what the carrier says, it is WHOLLY incompatible with probably ALL cellphone application platforms. (I tried many)

Infinitesimal Battery Life:
Regardless of what the carrier says:
The battery lasts about 20 hours for standby, 1 hour for talking.
The specs sheet from Kyocera is FALSE.
I don't know how it pulls off such a spectacularly terrible battery life, but it does. Somehow.

Dropped Calls/Failed Connections:
The slowness and unreliability of this phone will never cease to disappoint you: As it WILL drop about 4 out of 10 calls simply because the phone IS NOT FAST ENOUGH to handle it's most basic function.

Mobile Web Hardly Works:
The mobile web application will start up, and that's as far as it gets. The phone is just too freaking slow to even run any mobile web apps anyway, it's a miracle it even opens the application. Possibly even more of a miracle that it is even *compatible* with an application.

This phone is not worth even a cent.
The price tag of $119 is practically robbery.

AVOID THIS PHONE

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

littlefloater submitted this review of the Kyocera Marbl / K132 / Velvet:

Overall rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

I am happy with this (cheap) phone.

All I want to do is have a phone to place calls in emergencies/unusual situations. (Less than 30 minute a month.) I don't need a camera, web browsing, messaging, etc.

For less than $7 a month I get a workable phone and all the time I need (30 minutes a month), including free voicemail. You can't beat that if you are looking for a phone for minimal use at a minimal price. There is no better deal.

I live in San Francisco, where the wireless network is pretty saturated. I have had no problems with this phone's battery (unlike everyone else). It will stay on for days in "standby" and I have never dropped a call because of a low or dead battery.

Granted, if you want a "fancy" phone to wow your friends and take pictures and web surf, and if you want to talk on it for hours every day, I would consider upgrading from this phone.

But if your goal is to get a cheap and competent phone that you will rarely use on a cheap plan, you can't beat Virgin's Marbl. It's competent, reliable, and inexpensive.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

It feels like crap in your hand. The color is so obnoxious that Stevie Wonder wouldnt even use it. Kyocera shouls stick to making kitchen knives. I have a nice set of ceramic knives that could hold a better conversation than this lousy phone.

It is so NOT user friendly. Did I mention that the color is Gnarly gross. I think the cup and string I used when I was a kid worked better than this piece of trash. I though it in the garbage, and when I got home it was on the curb with a note from the trash man.

Static submitted this review of the Kyocera Marbl / K132 / Velvet:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

This is absolutely the s...l...o...w...e...s...t... phone I have ever seen. When texting, I can have the message typed out with my fingers before it is actually finished inputing itself on the screen. The delay is that bad. Sure this phone is extremely cheap, but that doesn't mean it should be marketed or sold...

Pros:

+ Inexpensive.

+ Light-weight.

+ Nice compact size.

Cons:

- Display is absolutely horrendous.

- Sound is pitiful. Forget downloading a ringtone, because you won't even be able to make out what it is once you get it.

- SLOW! I cannot stress how badly this phone lags. I've waited up to 10 seconds for the menu to open up after pressing the soft key.

Now, I realize that this phone isn't meant for multi-media tasks such as internet usage (which, by the way, is so slow that it will take a good 10+ minutes for a single page to load, but even the most basic and cheapest of phones should be able to competently send texts and have quick menu navigation, and this phone can do neither. My advice, spend the extra 10 or 20 dollars and get the next step up, whatever it may be.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Camelot One submitted this review of the Kyocera Marbl / K132 / Velvet:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

The phone has a nice size, but that is about as far as the good goes. Batter life is horrible for a modern cell phone. Audio quality isn't bad, but far from great. I found that almost 1/3 of my calls dropped, even though I was in the same area, doing the same things I have always done while on a cell, and without any trouble. All of which I could have overlooked, given the $19.99 price I paid for it. But....and this is a huge but, the phone constantly locked up. Sometimes when it rang, making it impossible to answer the call, and other times when the phone was idle. (and thus it would never ring when a call came in) This made it a completely useless phone.

Pros: Small size
Cons: Lock up for no reason, dropped calls, poor battery life

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

JaclynB submitted this review of the Kyocera Marbl / K132 / Velvet:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

PROS:

Okay, so the tip calculator is handy....if I actually ate out more often. And the small, sleek design is nice, considering the fact it's a Kyocera.

CONS:

BATTERY SUCKS!! Words cannot describe how much this annoys me. I've had the phone fully charged (and no, not "overcharged") only to be dead the next day. A total of *maybe* 12 hours, if I don't use it, and it's not constantly searching for a damn signal. If I had an emergency, I'd better hope I can get to a pay phone.

I've tried emailing Virgin Mobile about replacing the battery (although the 2 I've had so far have behaved the same), and keep getting the response "Please call so so we can assist you further". Keep in mind that I CAN'T call if my phone is DEAD. I guess I'll have to hit up a local store, if I can find one.

Don't waste your $$ on this cheap phone---it's junk!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

If you just want a basic phone get it. Really this phone is targeted toward older adults who want to go pre paid.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

kaskey submitted this review of the Kyocera Marbl / K132 / Velvet:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

This is a sleek little blue phone. It has served it's purpose as far as I am concerned. I haven't experienced any dropped calls from it, other then when I left my service area (I don't have roaming) My Cricket area is quite small so I don't generally have much to complain about as far as that is concerned.
Ring-tones I've downloaded work great, pictures that are already installed on the phone are cute. There is a variety of color schemes to choose from. And I can sit here and text on it all day long and I haven't yet had it die on me, I use it all day long and at night I plug it in (I had it one day unplugged at 7:30 and didn't plug it back in till 12 am)
The only complaint is slow texting, I have it set to eZi and I am a few words a head of it and have to wait on it to catch up, this is also a problem when downloading but i suppose that is to be expected. And lack of accessories. I would like to get a different cover for it, but there aren't any on the market except for the leather belt clip, and I have a belt clip that works just fine.
Basically I have owned 3 cell phones in my life and this one works just about as good as any, although I've never gotten the one that can receive the ring tones before. This was the cheapest Cricket phone at the time of activation and it's done quite well as far as I am concerned!
I haven't experienced any screen freezes, I did have a problem before with turning it off and it coming on on it's own, but I think that was a user error (in other words I don't think I actually turned it all the way off)

Happy talking!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
