fivegear submitted this review of the Motorola i880 / i885:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

I really don't have a single complaint on this phone. If you looking for a flip phone and don't need a keyboard for texting, or need high speed data for anything, then this is a great choice!

Build quality is top notch, very strong and durable phone. When Motorola came out with the quick flip series of handsets I had my doubts. I figured it would be broken in short order, but it has never given me a single problem.

Call quality on this phone is probably the best of any phone I have ever had, period. It is truly a winner in that category. Signal is also wonderful, I have other Nextel units on my account and none of them hold onto a signal better or show as strong a signal on the screen.

This really is a purpose built phone, if you have needs that don't fit into the flip phone category like web browsing and texting, look elsewhere. If you just want a rock solid phone that you can depend on day in and day out, then this is the phone for you :-)

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

snip3rm00n submitted this review of the Motorola i880 / i885:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

Being a previous owner of this phone and owning it for almost a year, I have to say that this device is, quite frankly, the best I have ever owned. I only switched to the ic902 because I moved to an area where the Nextel iDEN service is not available but Sprint CDMA is.

Pros:
1. Solid Build - I've dropped it quite a few times, not even so much as a scratch! Are you sure its not rugged Motorola?
2. Direct Talk - Off network walkie talkie is perfect for communicating where the iDEN network does not exist (provided you're within 6 to 7 miles of the reciever).
3. Fastest Push-to-Talk Network - Give up Verizon! With over 13 years of experience, the Nextel iDEN network has you beat!
4. Wonderful Speaker Quality - Enough said on that.
5. MP3 Player - Nextel isn't always about work, you know.
6. Lightning Fast Data - Even at its slowest its faster than Cingular's 3G speeds.
7. Perfect Pictures - With a 2.0 Megapixil camera, I've always had crystal clear photos. Plus the flash can double as a handy flashlight!
8. Rich Screen Detail: Wonderful quality for viewing the pictures you just took.
9. Precision GPS: Pinpoint accurate so you can know where you are any time you want.

Cons:
- None -
I've never had any issue with this phone that couldn't be resolved with a call to customer care or just power cycling the phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I couldn't be more happy with my new i880.

pros:

Great 2 mega pixel camera and flash.
Speaker is back up front like my i95.
direct connect- still great and a must have
music player works well.

Cons: battery life could be better.

Overall I am very happy I got this phone. For $99 it packs a punch. You won't be disappointed.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Rookie_tech submitted this review of the Motorola i880 / i885:

Overall rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

I personally do not own the i880 BUT I do work for a service and repair center and see an insane amount of these models come in for repair.

PRO'S: Slick and chic model; thin and modern with a stylish face; large screen for viewing; music capable and pretty reliable

that's until the biggest con of the phone happens...

The software problem, the inverted screen that happens to more people than not. Now as great of a phone I do believe the i880 is, I am surprised there was not a recall for the software issue. Doesn anyone else feel this way?

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I had my i860 for 2 years and it was a great so it was going to be hard to top in my opinion. Here are my pros and cons.

Pros:
Reception
Auto open hinge
Widen
Bluetooth is great and easy to use
Finally available in silver.

Cons:
no voice dialing
no resend option on sent text messages

Overall the best phone I've had. I rate it a 4.5 because no phone is perfect.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

It took great pictures, I could hear people that called my phone very clearly. But May 2007 rolls around and the camera stop working, then the screen flipped upside down, and last but not least the screen went totally dark on me. I had to send it off to be repaired and now I have to wait 5-7 business days before I receive my phone back. For the amount that we pay for these expense phones, I think they should work perfectly. I didn't even have my phone for a whole year before it started acting crazy on me. And another thing, I couldn't get the MP3 Player to work. I think the customer should receive more instructions when making a purchase on such items like this.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I had to switch carriers over to Nextel from T-mobile which is a whole 'nother sad story in it's self but now here i am with my second motorola phone the i880 and lets say motorola didn't let me down. As a previous owner of a motorola phone i knew what to expect and i got it ... crap just full on crap. Let me explain... The phone has a 2.0 megapixel camera that takes photos the quality of a 1 megapixel it doesn't accept ringtones made off my computer and there is a place to buy ringtones in almost every menu of the phone(and forget about free games). Oh did i mention that picture messaging is almost impossible b/c the file is almost always too large... I even called motorola and asked what makes this phone worth $500 (even though i got it for free) and no answer could be given. I gave the phone a .5 because i laughed my a$$ off when i saw there was NO alarm clock feature on the phone... heed my warning dont buy motorola and run far far away from sprint/nextel

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

The screen was completely black one time and flipped upside down. The ear piece issue happened after they fixed the first screen issue. The ear piece kept making a weird loud noise. I powered it down and then back on, it still acted like that! The battery died I charged it. After it charged I turned it back on and it was OK!

Pros:
Large, bright screen
Better camera, than previous nextels
MP3 player
Outside display
Outside play features for MP3
Stereo Speakers
Rigid keypad
Decent reception and Walkie-Talkie Service
Strong hinge and auto flip ability
Micro SD Card
External Wallpaper

Cons:
Poor battery life
Known screen issues
No status light (I care!)

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

SnowRyda2004 submitted this review of the Motorola i880 / i885:

Overall rating: 0 (out of 5)

3 replacements, 3 of the same problem. Text messaging, and bluetooth don't work and Nextel is "unable to repair this phone" Your only option is to send it out for 5-7 days to Florida for repair. And don't count on customer service to help you, "It's not our fault that Motorola had a defective product, it's only 1/1000" Well I guess I should play the lottery then,

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

radiotel submitted this review of the Motorola i880 / i885:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

This is an excellent piece of equipment on an excellent system.

1)"DC": For all you on other companies; SHOW ME HOW THE 2-WAY RADIO WORKS on: GSM? CDMA? I thought so! Nextel can connect across continents in .003 thousands of a second. Try that with GSM.

2) Nextel is for BUSINESS, got it? It is not for your snot-nosed kid to text message on or download pink ring tones only. It is a tool box for professionals.

3) Clear loud audio.

4) If you are dropping calls, then stop your car and finish your call where it works. The point of communications is to reduce the amount of time it takes to convey intelligence, not to allow you to pick up on chicks without dropping a call. Nextel delivers VM messages, or pages, or data point to point in seconds. Communications is not convenience.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I switched 3 phones in 1 year and all of them were bulky, ugly, made up of cheap plastic. lol crazy people out there who actually spend $400 on a cell phone? and on a phone like that. I got 3 more months to go and bye bye nextel for life. If you are a construction worker then put nextel in consideration but if you are a student(bachleor) or Dr. then DO NOT. Girls litrally ask me why i have sucha bulky phone and isnt its a hassle to carry in jean pocket and crack dumb jokes but its true. The amount of money you are spending on these phones is ridiculous. Dr. are always on call and THEY CANT TRUST Iden network. Frequent drop calls and most annoying thing"please wait. the nextel subcriber you are trying to reach is located". The signal bars decrease rapidly as soon as you enter in any building. from 4 all the way to 2 or 1 sometime not even 1.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

mikejody submitted this review of the Motorola i880 / i885:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

I really like this phone. I really dislike the tech support, customer service.

The GPS was not working on my phone when I got it. I spoke with four customer service (tech support) reps today as they kept escalating my problem with the phone, and not one of them could help. They then sent me to an "authorized repair center". The gum-chewing kid behind the counter said, "hmmm, I really don't even know what GPS is." I said, "I'm sorry, I thought this was an 'authorized repair center.'" He said, "yeah, it is, I just don't know anything about GPS."

So, he sent me to a "corporate office". The tech there said, "I'm sorry I can't help you, just push *4 on your phone to talk with tech support." I told him I had been on the phone with tech support for over 4 hours already today. He said, "Oh, then why don't you try the 'authorized repair center.' I said that I had already been there and the adolescent behind the counter had not heard of GPS.

So he sent me to a third "retail outlet" who told me that they couldn't help me as they were not "an authorized repair center." While I was at this third outlet the gentleman being waited on before me was screaming mad because he had been sent to "literally 3 different places trying to get his phone fixed."

I decided just to go home and return the new phone. On the drive home, the GPS started working. Go figure.

Sooooo, to make a long story short, I gave the phone a 2.0. It would be a 5.0 if you could get the phone at Verizon instead of Sprint/Nextel.

P.S. I talked to a friend about the experience and he said, "you mean you haven't HEARD about the customer service at Sprint/Nextel?" I felt like a neanderthal that had just crawled out of a cave as he explained to me that everyone in the mobile phone industry knows about Nextel/Sprint and their horrible customer service.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Biggest mistake in my life. horriable reception with nasty looking phones. I swithced 5 phones in almost 2 years and all them were same. Bulky, long and ugly with crapy reception. I cant wait to get NOKIA on cingular network.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
