That's pretty impressive.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I am on my 3rd phone and am having trouble with it. It will turn itself off whenever it feels like it. There is no rhyme or reason. I have to check it often only to find it is off and have missed important calls. The last one I had the reception was bad. Little to no bars when compared to another phone that had 5 bars sitting side by side.! Sprint tells our phone guru that they want me to come in as they think I may be doing something to harm the phone I am guessing. I cant believe with all of the negative review of the phone and of customer service, they don't do anything to make things better..This is why I have a Verizon which I am very happy with the phone and customer service.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Phone drops and the battery door falls or breaks off easily.
- Antenna gets in the way when you slip the phone in/out of pocket.
- Phone shuts off itself when receiving an SMS or walkie talkie/direct connect in succession.
- Walkie talkie/direct connect the other caller sounds garble or muffled.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

One day it shut down but the phone kept vibrating.3. If I wanted to go online it is cont.telling me to get a handler. GPS and other things can't be downloaded without nextel care help. It's more frustrating than it's worth.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I am 12 and the smart one, he made me set up the phones. My phone started right up, and i called in set up my service. My dads phone would not even start, just a blank screen. I spent probably 2 days on and off talking with nextel.
After all that time they just decided to send my dad the ic602. that phone worked fine, but then my ic502 started acting up.
When I would turn it on, I would have to press the power button 3 times! The phone stopped charging, so my dad has to charged my batterie in his phone.
I hate nextel/sprint and cant wait till my 2 year agreement ends.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

After all the phones were activated it was only then we discovered that we do not receive ANY service at our location. We had been told that utilizing both networks we would have better coverage than just off the IDEN network. Well they were incorrect.

With the 2 days it took to organize my staff to switch over to the new phones, the fact that the SIM cards are not compatible, and the time it took to switch back to our original phones this was a huge waste of time and money.

So if you are looking for better coverage- this is definitely NOT the phone for you.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Ive had it for maybe 6 months. My calls are always dropped. When I text it randomly turns off as if it has just had a mental breakdown from a lot of text at once. (a lot for this phone = 2) Since I love textign this is a major issue. and my volume has a delayed reaction. if it is on high volume right now and i turn it down to vibrate and i recieve a call.. it will be so loud.. it takes like 20 mintues to get to vibrate. best advice- dont buy the phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I travel for work often throughout many states and this phone works hard it seems to pick up every tower...

PROs.
not one dropped call
easy to nav
rugged lil bugger
great sound
audio recording
great buy

CONs
not compatible with Moto phone tools
battery life problem. (does not hold a charge like it did when it was new)

over all it is a great phone. I have dropped it many times, even in water. it continues to work great. I have now dropped it in paint and well there is paint on the screen on the inside so i do need a new one now... im getting the 602 and will let you know what i think of that one as well.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

aaronp submitted this review of the Motorola ic502 Buzz:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

I am responsible for issuing phones and dealing with Nextel for our company. When these phones came out, Nextel offered us a bunch of these phones for free to get us to switch to the hybrids. I issued them out to users, and the complaints started rolling in. The phone drops calls. Make a call, it drops, call the person back, it drops again. Repeat over and over.
The straight Iden phones work great in the same areas. Sprint CDMA phones work great in the same areas, but this bastardized merger of the two networks doesn't seem to work.
I suspect that it has something to do with the fact that most CDMA phones work in the 850 AND the 1900 band, and this frankenstein only works in the 1900 band.
If it were just one phone that had these problems, I'd think maybe it was a lemon, but when every single person that got one of these phones complained, I know that there is something wrong with either the phone or the system it is running on.
Since I know people with Sprint phones that DON'T have these problems, I'm going to guess maybe it is the phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

tiassa submitted this review of the Motorola ic502 Buzz:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

How do I hate the ic502, let me count the ways:

First off for you Nextel users out there who think this will give you the "best of both worlds" -- it doesn't, this isn't a dual mode CDMA/Iden phone, it is basically a CDMA phone with the Iden circuitry grafted on, and only usable to contact other Iden subscribers via Push-to-talk.

Next, it uses mini-USB for charging, but Motorola (or Sprint) has crippled the USB port so that you can't use a USB cable to charge the phone, which means that you still have to drag a charger around with you instead of a USB cable, which you could plug into your laptop.

The phone has a "power save" mode --if you are in an area with no service, the phone will go into "hibernation". While this is a nice feature in that your battery doesn't get drained if you are in a low service area, the phone takes forever to wake up (unless you remember and flip open the clamshell so that it wakes up). I've moved from a bad service area to a good one and not had the phone "wake up" for more than 3 hours.

Additionally, I have had the phone die several times while using Motorola Phone Tools -- the USB port doesn't turn off or something and the battery drains, and then nothing will recharge it, short of taking the battery out of the phone and reseating it -- this may be my specific phone, as the techs at the Sprint store haven't seen this with anyone else, but I'm including it as yet another reason I hate this phone.

Add this to Sprint's awful customer service and I'm counting the days (214) until I can dump this and get something that is useful to me.

I gave it half a star because the ruggedized case is nice. I've dropped it on the floor a couple of times (I haven't thrown it against a wall, as much as I've wanted to) with no ill effects.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

jaydanie submitted this review of the Motorola ic502 Buzz:

Overall rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

I rate the sprint/nextel hybrid phone a little low; however, I do like the phone. I purchased 2 of these phones mainly for the push2talk feature of nextel and the cdma part of the phone for making voice calls since the iden network has trouble penetrating walls ie the a metal build, office or store.

pros: price, cdma plus nextel iden, rugged and small. a simple phone with no bells and whistles. push to talk has better service than southernlinc but covers a smaller area in Ga. however, the southernlinc signal goes in and out like the wind. it has a loud speaker and loud speaker-phone as with all motorola iden phones, so I don't know what the other guys are complaining about.

cons: the sprint and nextel network both should be extended to compete with companies like Alltel and Verizon. get 8 miles away from city or interstate and lose signal. if you live in this blackout zone, don't even consider this phone if you want it to work at home. Fortunately I don't get too far from the interstate area and I live close to it so signal at home is good here. was able to get both phones activated on the first call, but the girl (sounded like she was in india) had trouble brining up my account at first. we also had communcation problems due to her accent and mine southern draw;( why can't they hire someone who speaks plain english! I had to do the alpha, bravo, romeo thing with this girl to spell it out.

you would think that a company as rich as sprint could convert their whole lineup to the powersource hybrid network today. but that doesn't seem to be the case. they are still selling iden only nextel phones. doesn't make sense to me.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

DallasPhoneWhore submitted this review of the Motorola ic502 Buzz:

Overall rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

I'm getting a job that requires a phone to be able to withstand a little wear and tear, which is why I chose to get a Nextel. I was happy to see that there was a hybrid available that has qualities of a Nextel that I was looking for and the reception of Sprint. I had Nextel years ago, but had the worst reception known to man. I couldn't make any phone calls in the first floor of my house. All calls had to be made from the top floor. (Which was very inconvenient by the way) I've only had this phone for about a week and have noticed that the battery life varies...a lot! The first charge lasted me for about 4 days with medium usage. But the second charge lasted 2 days, no usage, and it was down to a bar! I've had a lot of phones in my day, from pretty much every carrier, and I tell you, that if this battery life doesn't get any better, I'm going to be pretty annoyed having to stow a charger in the car. What's the point in offering the model with the "extended battery" if it's worse than other phones with a "normal" battery? You're basically selling me a thicker phone, with no benefits.

Pro: Very simple if you just want a phone to make calls. No bells and whistles.
Looks somewhat durable, but only time will tell.

Con: Battery charges last from one extreme to another.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I have a very good support team.

You really don't save money buying on line. I suggest going to a pro and let them take care of the activation.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

It seems like it is hit or miss on the phones.. some people say they have no problem and others say they do. The battery might not be a problem. I plug my phone in every night and i have a car charger. I never have any problems with my phones. If you are not near a plug then yes you may have a problem. The service coverage looks awesome but i shall see. I should be getting the phone tomorrow (hopefully) and i will be back to post then.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

harleyron submitted this review of the Motorola ic502 Buzz:

Overall rating: 0 (out of 5)

I only wish I had found this forum before I spent over 3 weeks trying to get one of these phones. At the end of 3 weeks I was told by S/N that I should just reorder the phone. I did that and in 3 days the wrong 502 arrived. Another call and another run around and in 3 more days the correct phone came.
Can not be activated is what they keep telling me? I too have made so many calls I can't recall the amount of hours I've spent on the phone and the number's of different people and departments I've been referred to.
If I couldn't laugh at all this I'd be crying now. To finally top it all off, I told them I had the 2 phones to return. I even told the person several times that I had both the wrong phone and the correct phone to return. As I expected, the Fed-Ex driver came and only had the authorization for 1 phone to pick up for return. So yes, another 45 minutes on the phone just trying to find the correct department to issue me another pick up slip.
I honestly do not know how this merger will ever work. Customer service is non existent and no one cares. I've even been laughed at by these people. I've had Nextel for over 6 years with no issues but this is simply uncalled for.
I need the rugged phone so I guess I'll find another I-530.
Stay away from these phones until the organization has people who know how they operate.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Econs submitted this review of the Motorola ic502 Buzz:

Overall rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

Yes, this phone was an absolute nightmare to activate. Here's my story:

I went to a multi-brand mobile dealership on 6/10/07. I created an account with Sprint/Nextel and purchased this phone. I wished to port a previous number over from Helio. The associate told me the port would take about 3 hours.

Well 3 hours became 3 days. In those 3 days, I was on the phone with Helio, S/N, and even the dealer. Sprint gave me the royal runaround about activation and porting. That's right. IT WASN'T ACTIVE.

So I call S/N. They tell me the account isn't active. Ok, so activate it, right? WRONG! I still couldn't get my number ported over from Helio, so I wait another day. I go back to the dealer, where he gets on the phone with S/N and within about 3 hours, my number was finally ported over, and service activated!

About the ic502: This isn't your typical MotoRAZR or an i875 even. It's rather vanilla for it's taste. One thing I rather am bummed out about is the no Bluetooth feature. The camera, I can live without, but it's still missed. It's a very bland Motorola phone, but still can support features like hifi rings, games, ect.

Pros:
- Rugged. Why aren't more phones like this?
- Stylish. A lot of Nextel phones look rather silly.
- Friendly user interface, yet a simple Motorola layout.
- Basic tools that belong on any cell phone, alarm, calendar, calculator, ect.
- Speaker to the sides of the phone, instead of the traditional back.

Cons:
- Battery life, but what do you expect from a Nextel phone?
- Lack of Bluetooth, camera.
- Customer service runaround, but don't blame that on the phone.

Others:
- Walkie-Talkie alert over conversation. Some people may find this a bit of an annoyance. I like it, so you know that someone else is trying to get a hold of you.
- USB charger, as opposed to the typical Nextel type charger.
- Direct-Talk. I'm new to Nextel, but it's brilliant

It's a good vanilla phone, don't expect anymore from it. If you want an media center, stick with the i880.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I love the fact that now when you get a txt message it pops up automatically and no downloads like Nextel ( i send 5000 of them a month I'll prove it to you ) but sometimes when i open the phone to check a new one, i go to send one, or in the middle of deleting them the phone power cycles itself for no reason at all. I've now gone through 4 of these phones soon to be on number 5. I love everything else about the phone except for the random power cycles. and also when it turns back on there are sometimes locked messages that appear for no reason and to no one with no message. anyone have this problem let me know. those of you looking into the purchase of this phone its good but has flaws just be warned.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
