MetroPCS Expands Joyn Availability to More Android Phones

MetroPCS today indicated that its joyn service can now be used on a wider range of its Android handsets. The service initially launched on the Samsung Galaxy Attain 4G. It now also works on the Samsung Galaxy S III and S Lightray 4G; the LG Connect 4G and Motion 4G; the ZTE Anthem 4G; and the Coolpad Quattro 4G. Joyn is a standards-based Android application that collects and merges messaging services, such as IM and SMS. The app lets users conduct threaded text conversations and supports presence, which lets users know when their friends are available. It also makes it easier to share photo and video content when the user is on an active phone call (this is traditionally not possible on CDMA-based devices). Last, it lets MetroPCS customers make voice and video calls to other joyn users via Wi-Fi.

T-Mobile's Isis Handsets Mostly Samsung Galaxies

T-Mobile today announced its initial batch of handsets compatible with the new Isis mobile payments service are the Samsung Galaxy S III, Galaxy S Relay 4G, and the Galaxy S II. Owners of these handsets in the trial markets of Austin and Salt Lake City can go to their local T-Mobile store to receive the special SIM card needed to activate Isis. T-Mobile expects the Galaxy Note II and the HTC Amaze 4G will be Isis compatible by the end of the year. Isis lets Android smartphone owners make tap-and-go payments with their handsets at select retailers.

T-Mobile today announced that the Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G will be available starting September 19. This Android smartphone, which includes a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, will cost $149.99 after mail-in rebate.

T-Mobile Makes the Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G Official

T-Mobile today announced the addition of the Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G to its collection of Android smartphones. The Relay runs Ice Cream Sandwich and works on T-Mobile's HSPA+ network at 42Mbps. It has a 4-inch Super AMOLED display, 5-megapixel main camera, 1.3-megapixel rear camera, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, light and proximity sensors. The Relay is powered by a dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 processor. It is certified Samsung Approved for Enterprise (SAFE), which means it has extra encryption and better business network support. The device will be available in the coming weeks, but pricing was not announced.

Samsung Confirms 'Galaxy S Relay 4G'

Samsung's support web site has revealed the final brand name, images, and features of the SGH-T699 cellular phone. Samsung shows that the SGH-T699 also goes by the name Galaxy S Relay 4G. The model designation pegs the S Relay 4G as a phone that will be sold by T-Mobile USA, and the support materials on Samsung's web site reference T-Mobile multiple times. Other features noted by the Samsung support web site indicate that the Relay 4G includes front and rear cameras with flash, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, light and proximity sensors, and a number of applications/services common to Android smartphones. Officially, neither Samsung nor T-Mobile has announced this phone.
