HTC Promises Android 4.0 Updates Still On the Way

HTC recently took to its Facebook page to reiterate that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich updates are still in the works for a number of its devices. HTC was responding to customer complaints, as HTC has missed delivering ICS updates on time to several devices, such as the Rhyme, which was supposed to get ICS in June/July. Other devices slated to receive ICS include the Desire S, Droid Incredible 2, and Thunderbolt. HTC said the updates will be delivered by the end of August.

HTC Confirms Android 4.0 Headed to 16 Smartphones

HTC today published in a blog post a list of 16 smartphones that will be updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The devices include the Amaze 4G, Desire S, Desire HD, EVO 3D, EVO Design 4G, Incredible S, Sensation, Sensation XL, Sensation 4G, Sensation XE, Raider, Rezound, Rhyme, Thunderbolt, and Vivid. HTC said that it is still in the early stages of rolling out Android 4.0 to the Sensation and Sensation XE. The next phones in line for Android 4.0 updates are the Sensation 4G and the Sensation XL. HTC cautions that wireless network operators play a role in the update process, so it can't lock down firm timelines with respect to the exact availability of updates.

Verizon Announces Android 4.0 Update List

Verizon Wireless today published a list of its Android devices that it plans to update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The devices include the: HTC ThunderBolt, Droid Incredible 2, Rhyme, and Rezound; Motorola Xoom, Bionic, RAZR, RAZR MAXX, Droid 4, and Xyboards 8.2/10.1; Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7/10.1; and the LG Spectrum. Verizon said that it will add to this list over time. Verizon didn't say anything other than "later this year" regarding when these devices will be updated. Some of the manufacturers of these devices have provided guidance on the timing of the updates. For example, Motorola said its devices won't see Android 4.0 until some time in the third quarter of the year, while HTC has indicated that Android 4.0 might arrive during the first half of the year.

HTC Adds More U.S. Phones to Android 4.0 List

HTC today announced via its Facebook page a new round of Android smartphones that will be updated to Ice Cream Sandwich. Those devices include the Rhyme, Thunderbolt, and Droid Incredible 2, which are (or were) sold by Verizon Wireless. HTC did not say when the updates would be delivered.

HTC Details Android 4.0 Roll-Out Plans

HTC today provided more details via its Facebook page on when it will update its existing smartphones to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The first batch includes the Sensation, Sensation 4G and Sensation XE by the end of March, with the Sensation XL soon after. HTC says that owners of the Rezound, Vivid, Amaze 4G, EVO 3D, EVO Design 4G, Incredible S, Desire S, and Desire HD will receive Android 4.0 later this year. HTC will provide more specific details about the upgrades in the coming weeks.

Google Says Android Security Fix Being Pushed Out

Google today acknowledged a security issue recently discovered by researchers that left Android device users' authentication details exposed when used over unprotected Wi-Fi networks. In response, Google said it is pushing out a security update that should fix the problem. "Today we're starting to roll out a fix which addresses a potential security flaw that could, under certain circumstances, allow a third party access to data available in calendar and contacts," Google said in a statement. "This fix requires no action from users and will roll out globally over the next few days."
