Great Phone. Battery Life Terrible!

Oct 11, 2006 by dejavoonm

I bought this phone September 30th to replace my Motorola V710 which had been doing bizarre things for the past two months. I loved the V710. Used the V710 for a year (longest I've used one phone ever). I chose the Nokia 6315i over others in the Verizon lineup (even the Krzr) after doing weeks of research on-line and in store. I was a bit disappointed to find the 6315i was made by Pantech rather than Nokia because Nokia has always built a solid, reliable phone. I know nothing about Pantech phones other than they are made in Korea. The feel of the 6315i is solid. Even the keys are solid. The metal face is attractive and not tacky like the Samsung which is comparable in features. Display is colorful and bright (much better than my Razr and v710). Verizon's newly-designed UI is much easier to navigate also. As much as they are inconvenient, the charging port and memory card ports have covers which keep the ports clean. The phone is lightweight, comfortable in the hand and sleek. It takes great pictures and has an optional flash. (I never did get good pics with my v710!!) Sound quality isn't quite as crisp as it was with my v710. (Nothing beats Motorola sound quality.) The only reason I'm downgrading the phone 1/2 point is the battery life. I get only 1-1/2 days out of it -with no more than 30 minutes of calls. At this point, I cannot find and extended battery available ANYWHERE! This is my complete frustration. Another item: My memory card had 50 photos on it from my v710. My 6315i doesn't recognize any of them.

Bluetooth is great......if the phone battery doesn't die.

Another annoyance: No indicator of "low battery" like there was with the v710. Therefore, while in a call, the phone will just shut down when the battery runs out. (Motorola had me spoiled.)

All in all, I like the phone. It does all I want it to with ease. Pantech has produced a quality phone for Nokia.

Great Phone - Best in Verizon's basic lineup

Let me start by saying that I've had a ton of different cell phones - Treo, RAZR, Audiovox, Samung, LG... I've used them all.

I recently decided to get something new. I considered a lot of different phones, and finally went with teh 6315i because of it's size and "performance". The RAZR and a few other phones I looked at seemed to perform very slowly. There was a delay everytime you push a button before anything happened. I don't know if this is an issue with the Verizon OS or the phones themselves. The 6315 does not have this problem. Pushing a button gets an instantaneous result.

The size and weight of the phone are great. I never need to use the extendable antenna to get good signal. The display is very bright and clear. The ringtones are lacking, but I could really care less about that. The ringer is loud and clear. The speakerphone works as well as any other phone I have ever used. The camera is a little slow, but hey, I bought a phone - not a camera. The picture quality is better than a lot of phones I have seen.

The only thing I don't like about the phone is the "OK" button. It's a little small for me, but that will just take some getting used to. I seem to hit it pretty often on accident when trying to use the arrow keys, and vice versa.

Overall, this is the best phone I have had with Verizon. Sound, signal, and visual quality is better than anything else I've tried. No complaints about this phone, and wouldn't trade it for anything else. If you are looking for a flip phone with Verizon, this is probably your best bet. Sure, the Treo's and Q's offer tons more features, but they are two completely different things.

Par-Sub Par

Ive had this phone since March 25th. Ever since i got it, it has given me minor trouble. Every now and then it glitches, and the screen will become pixelated, almost like a frozen computer screen. It could have a better side button layout, and i wish it had a record button.

Its quite hard to take self portraits with the flip closed since the camera is on the back. Kind of a weird place, if you have one you'd know. The phone itself has little to no memory, and you have to have a SD card if you want more than 3 songs on it. For the camera quality, it is great. No matter what the lighting is around you, the picture comes out very nicely. The sound quality is equally as nice. It is loud, and very clear.

My last phone was a motorola razr, and if i chose between the two i would probably choose the nokia. It has a much nicer feel when you hold it, and much more features.

Would have been the perfect phone if it could do all Verizon said it could

If I bought the phone blind this would be the best phone. However Verizon said I could use bluetooth to copy music and data. This is not true. they broke this feature so that you have to buy some cable kit...kind of makes the bluetooth thing useless.

They also claimed that I can customize my ringtones buy choosing a mp3 from my micro sd card...this is also a lie, seems you can only get ringtones if you buy it from them.

Very very disappointed

Traded it in for the NEW LG8600

All in all, the phone is very comfortable in size. Not thrilled about answering calls -seems like the side buttons are in the way when flipping the phone. I wasn't impressed with voice dialing either. The phone wouldn't save my personal contact settings for ringtones either. I went ahead and traded it in for the new LG8600.

issues

the one that i played with gave me a hard time inserting and/or ejecting the micro sd card. unless you have long finger nails, you have to carry around a paper clip in order to insert or retrieve your memory card from the phone.
also still as of today the phone has phonebook transfer compatability issues.
the mp3 player part of the phone is not user friendly, very similar to the verizon samsung phones. my opinion the lg verizon mp3 player is more useful, faster and has more options.
phone itself looks nice and has a nice slim feel with a nice and loud speaker even though it's a single.

Just bought it - had some questions

Oct 4, 2006 by john41276

I just bought this phone and am trying it out during Verizon's 15 trial period. I was trying to decide between this phone and the LG VX8300. The Verizon salesman recommended the LG mostly due to the fact that he was more familiar with the LG and had heard great feedback.

The phone is slimmer than the LG and in my opinion looks a lot better.

The phone seems to perform fine, but has a few annoyances:

1. When the phone is "closed", there is no indication that the phone is on - the outer display turns completely black, and the status light does not blink or otherwise do anything.

2. The speaker for the speakerphone is on the "front" of the phone, meaning that when the phone is open, the speaker is turned away from you.

3. There is a low level hissing when you are having a conversation in a quiet place.

I do love the feel of the phone, but the functionality seems to be a little lacking. I'll see how I feel about the phone in a couple of days - I may have to go back and return it for the LG.
