Everything I needed

Apr 5, 2007 by micajoju

I never was big into cell phones or little gadgets like the ipod. But the Chocolate is probably the best phone I believe on the market today...It has everything you need: camera, voice/visual recorder, music player, video player, internet access...The only thing missing from this phone is a flash for the camera, other than that its the total package. I admit that when I first got it i was a bit frustrated with the sensitivity of the the touch buttons, but after a couple of days i used the Chocolate for anything and everything. Whether it was downloading music, checking email, taking pictures, anything and everything I can use it for. I rated this phone 4.5 out of 5, minus .5 for the non-flash accessibility.

the reception
the camera is sweet
the whole phone is really great

Nice.

Nice is all i could come up with - its not absolutely amazing, its not shotty in any way.

I have the mint chocolate - had it for about a month. Its beautiful.

Cons:
-speaker doesnt work for talking on the phone - only for music.
-vibrating is so subtle compared to my old nokia (and i prefer to keep it on vibrate all the time, so its easy to miss phone calls or text messages
- battery only lasts the day: must recharge at night or within a few hours of waking up the next day
-there is no headphone jack for regular music headphones or for headset. you have to use the attachment they provide which only fits headsets = you basically arent given the option to listen with headphones.
-the voice capturer thing for like, when we talk into the phone for the other end to hear us, is on the bottom-side of the phone vs on the face of the phone = other end can't hear clearly.
-doesnt have birthday notifications on the calendar. you have to just create an 'event' and a reminder on the calendar.
-so far, i may have not learned it yet, but i don't think when text messaging, that the 'system' learns new words. ie i like using my own shorthand like, wknd for weekend, and it doesnt learn it. so i have to keep switching back and forth from 'word' to 'abc'.

Pros:
-music is loud on speaker, easy to navigate through
-clear fonts, good sizes, good color styles
-camera is awesome and clear (for a camera phone)
-volume is loud, and can be quieter. (good range)
-alarm clock sound can be one of your songs
-touch screen is a sleek new addition - a lot of people don't know how to use it, which is fun - makes me feel good that i have a more advanced phone then theirs.

i think thats it.

its good - some things i just have to get used to, but otherwise, i'm a happy camper.

nothing is ever perfect anyways!

oh, by the way, i suggest purchasing the micro sd cards for the music from a real electronics store rather than from verizon - there are a lot better deals out there than they offer.

I just got my strawberry phone and it is neat. Easy to work, music could be a little louder but it's fine. I think it is very nice.

This phone suck! At first I loved it then I realized that you don't use half the features on it! The battery life suck, it sends msgs without me sending them, dials people without me dialing and when texting it freezes up! DON'T BUY IT! Wait for a better version of it to come out.

Great At First, Just Like My Last LG

Mar 6, 2007 by tbird888

I bought this phone because I was sucked in by the commercials. I was looking for a new phone that had a self-contained mp3 player, not one that operated through a provider's network. Verizon only offered phones with music capabilities that worked with Vcast. My choices were the Chocolate and 'The V.'
After getting the phone, I got used to the touch pad just like everyone else. Getting used to the phone and the mp3 player was easy. I was surprised that there was no speakerphone, despite the speaker that is on the back of the phone. The battery life was a little better than most reviews but not by much. My previous LG VX6000's battery lasted three times as long but never maintained full functionality even from initial purchase. I swore I'd never buy another LG phone again. I crossed my fingers as I took the plunge into another LG phone. Now I wish I'd stuck to my promise. Less than six months after buying the LG Chocolate, the same types of problems are showing up with this phone as my last. The touch pad button for send doesn't work unless you squeeze it so hard the phone creaks. This is miserable for making calls. I've started using the voice dial function in order to make calls. Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to make them at all. Also when the battery dies, you only get one beep, if any at all, that it's about to go. I can't tell you how many calls I've had to return because of the battery dying. The last problem is that the keypad buttons are really small and tend to mess up when texting and dialing. I don't have extremely large fingers so using the keypad requires constant monitoring. Even with all this, the phone could be worse.
--Pros
-Unique
-Stand Alone mp3 Player
-Great speaker volume for phone and music
-Great camera for a phone(true for all LG's)
-Tons of features thrown into a small package

--Cons
-Worst battery of any phone I've owned
-No warning of dying battery
-Touch pad stopped functioning without excessive use
-Small buttons on keypad

Bad Phone...

Mar 5, 2007 by findmathan

This is one of the worst phones i have ever used ....i'm using this phone for the last 6 months..the battery life was poor from the start....and couple of weeks back the battery started dying in couple of hours....the controls are little awkward..

Pros:
Good MP3 Sound quality

Cons:
No Speaker
Controls
Battery life

Great looking, but the touchpad is a drawback

Mar 5, 2007 by GuyinLACA

I have friends with this phone, and have extensively tested it out myself.

PROS:
-It's very attractive
-Unique slider form factor and is available in 4 additional colors
-QVGA screen
-Finally modern display themes in blue and various other colors.
-Good sound quality
-Above average reception for an LG

CONS:
-The heat sensitive touchpad is real pain; One touch can cause menus option to scroll by three at a time or give no response at all. Changing the sensitivity doesn't help much either. It has a steep learning curve and many people have reported it wearing out and becoming unresponsive after heavy use.
-The end key is on the side of the phone which is counter-intuitive.
-The heat sensors may detect heat from ones face during a call and activate functions.
-The numeric keypad is cramped and small.
-The phone is prone to smudges and scratches (applies to the black one mostly)

All in all, it's a decent phone as far as style and call quality, however the touchpad and keypad could prove to be key factors against choosing this phone. I mean, first it takes time learning to use it, then as I've heard, these sensors have been prone to deterioration. Perhaps it's the luck of the draw. Overall, I think the LG VX-8300, VX-8600, and VX-9900 offer many of the same pros but the keypad issue is non-existent. Unless you have a strong tolerance for change in phones, and really want to try something different, I think the VX-8300 and VX-9900 are much stronger products. If you really want this phone, go into a store and try it out along with the others. It could be that the Chocolate is right for you, but it's definitely not for everyone.
