Good phone for everything but talking

Nov 25, 2006 by ironchef

The phone has a lot of great features, but one of them is not phone quality. I've had this phone for about 3 months now and constantly have calls fading in and out and people complaining of a buzzing noise from my end. If you don't expect to do much talking on this phone and a lot of multimedia stuff then this phone is probably your best bet. Otherwise avoid at all costs.

Cingular worker/ Long time phone finatic

First off. Let me say this phone is remarkable. Some people are saying you cant hold down a key to hit a number - FALSE!

You can in fact.

Pro's:
Great camera
Battery Life
Great resolution on both screens
Cingular Video
3g Internet is great
USB mass storage option
Speakerphone and regular speaker are loud.

Con's:

Simple and plain the ringer could have been louder and possibly speaker on outside to make it sound louder.

Could have taken use of PTT from cingular would have been great.

Thats all I can think of really. In general context there are no major flaws of the phone. In fact it's one of the best ive ever had with any company. Anyone who objects is entitled to do so but ive been with cingular for a long time and I have to say. Awesome phone. Way to go LG.

An Awesome Phone

I recently bought the CU500, and I'm impressed. Coming from a Nokia 6200, which I thought was pretty decent judging on its main purpose--communication--but other than that had no neat features (except radio), the LG is a really nice change.

PROS:
- Very sleek, sexy form factor
- User friendly keypad
- Great camera (pictures are especially sharp in good light, and I love the swivel.)
- Reasonable menu, though I still prefer the Nokia's.
- Excellent color displays
- It's a quad band, which suits me perfectly since I go to Europe pretty often.
- Loaded with features, awesome speakerphone.
- Good reception

CONS:
- Occasionally drops calls, or they sound a little crackly.
- The fact that the phone doesn't come with any extra gadgets (no earphones, music download cables, etc.)
- The ringtones/message tones. This is the main reason why I didn't give this phone the full five. The ring is ascending, so if you've got it in another room, you might not hear it until it's too late. Also, the message tones get extremely annoying because they alert you both when you send a text and when the text is actually sent. There is no way to disable any of these noises, or the sounds whenever you delete or change a setting.

I am totally in love with this phone, and I think it was a good investment, although I'll definitely be keeping the 6200. If someone is looking for a phone more for practicality instead of style, get a Nokia. In my opinion, they are still the phones with the best designed software (i.e. different 'profiles' for incoming calls/messages).

Hope this helps!

Not really a good phone

This is my first phone i got until now, which is like almost a year. At first i really like this phone but when i drop many times the phone was mess up

CONS- The battery life was messed up. First it says that its full but then just minutes later it dies. The signal sucks. My mom has cingular too and she has the pink razar it always have more signal then i do. I would always have like 2 or 3 bars, but most of the time when i am outside its full signal which is good.

PROS- Love the camera! the pictures comes out really good..sometimes.

Overall i think this is phone is a ok phone

Best.....Phone........Ever.........

All of you people who are complaining about small stuff, just shut up. Like what many other people said, it is not a freakin computer. Lower your expectations. Maybe computer-phones will come out in the future. In the meantime, be patient.

PROS
-Inventive swivel-camera, 1.3 MP, clear, crisp, colorful photos. I comapred it with my 5.4 MP digi-cam, it surprised me. (Sometimes I used the swivel cam for spying)
-Beautiful high-res. screen. Beats my old Sony Ericsson anytime.
-Stereo speakers beats my LAPTOP SPEAKERS.
-2GB microSD flash card. HUGE MEMORY. FEW HUNDRED SONGS.
-Recording tools (e.g. video, voice, picture) just the way I like them. Simple, fun, works.
-Headphones rival my $50 Sony High-performance earbuds.
-Buttons not to small, not too large. (perfect for my huge fingers)
-Strong and sturdy (the weight it perfect, it doesn't feel like you bought a hunk a' plastic)
-Perfect size. I wear jeans a lot, so my old bulky phones were a tight fit.
-Simple button layout.
-NO VIDEO RECORD CAPS my other phone is capped at 15 secs! THATS A JOKE!
-The external buttons are easy to touch with the finger, but easy to miss when in the pocket. That is a great leap toward the future of cell phones.
-Anything else?

CONS
-No voice dial(So you can dial on the road? Then again, you're not supposed to. Buy a headset, and dial the number when you're at a stoplight. Simple as that.)
-The protective caps that conceal some slots are flimsy, but if you put a small strip of tape, there is no problem.
-No speakerphone when flap is closed.(What did you expect? calling someone with it closed? That'll make you look like some queer. Plus, the microphone is really sensative, so just put it on your lap when your voice recording.)
-The swivel camera feels flimsy.(That's ok, it's the first of its kinds, there are bound to be some flaws.)

Overall, excellent phone. Highly reccomended to music gurus or camera freaks. Stop complaining. You're missing the small solutions!!!

LG CU500- Only buy if you live in a Metro Area

Oct 4, 2006 by othertyme

PROS: Light weight, good sound, lots of options
CONS: Doesn't work well with headsets, looses signal in fringe areas and metal buildings (like WalMart), keypad gets hot after prolonged use, poor battery life.
REVIEW:
Imagine my excitement when I first received this phone... my first gadgety device with MP3 player and 1.3MP camera and an upgrade from my existing Motorola v551 cellphone. Out of the box it was great, bluetooth was easy to sync up with my v551 and I was able to transfer my existing photos from one phone to the other. Programmed in all of my numbers then tried it out for the first time. My first call was made just holding the phone... the call was clear on both ends of the conversation.. but then I noticed that the keypad was warming up... the longer I talked the hotter the keys got. I looked this up in the manual and it stated that this was normal... but really it's not very comfortable to the human face when you talk for a long period of time. Also transferring pictures via Bluetooth and talking on the phone for about an hour depleted half of the battery. I live in a fringe area (non Metropolitan) and the phone dropped calls in every marginal zone along the way- something my Motorola v551 never did. This was also the case when I went into WalMart and tried to use the phone-- it only worked consistently by the front doors of the building. I tried two different wired 2.5mm headsets and one motorola bluetooth headset... I could hear clearly but the people on the other end could not hear me (the comment made was "you sound like you are far away/ at the bottom of some barrel)... I was repeating myself so many times that I disconnected the headset and opted for the face against the hot keypad (explained earlier). After two days I decided to return the phone (buyers remorse). I've gone back to my trusty Motorola v551... maybe someday I'll venture out and try again but it won't be another LG.

Pros and Cons

Sep 15, 2006 by troybuilt

I love this phone, it has really good sound quality and it's really light and screen is just fantastic.

the cons of this phone is.
signal isn't that great.
you can't use songs as your ring tone, you
have to lower the bit rate of them to 56 or lower, then you can use them as ring tones with that low of quality the tone isn't that great.

LG hasn't released the software to this phone and they don't seem to be in any hurry to release it some reason, I called them and they were kind of rude about it said they'll release it when they get to it, and LG expects their customers to purchase their software plus the data cable.
I don't think I'll be keeping this phone for much longer. I'll end up getting the Sony Ericsson w810i which will be released the end of this month.

Simply a Great Phone

We ended up buying three CU500s, one for my wife, daughter and myself. None of us have had experience before with a cell phone with a music player, camera, or internet functionality and were pretty dubious how a phone would handle all these functions. But I must say after a couple days of use, it is not only impressive, but amazing. This has to be the future of communication, the combination of the functions compliment each other perfectly.

Ok on to the phone. It is very solid, much more so than many of the other phones we looked at. It is sleek and impressive. It certainly reminds you of the razor but it's thinner and much easier to hold in your hand. It feels great in your hand, and the buttons are MUCH easier to navigate than most phones that I've played with.

Inside, the phone has what seems to have become standard for most phones, the five way control and additional convenience buttons. The menu system seems wonderful to me, although others have said there are other phones out there with better menus. But I find this menu system straight forward and easy to navigate.

Of course the internet speed is incredible, and makes navigating through web sites really easy with quick responses.

The camera is really good as many have mentioned. The implementation is very easy to use and works great.

The MP3 player is great, and the sound is incredible. Not being able to use folders is silly though, and I'm sure future phones will support this.

The only cons I have are these:

- Folders or other organization for music files.
- No voice dial, which I likely wouldn't have used, but hey it would have been nice

I don't mind the increasing ring tones at all, and every other possible option I care about is in this phone. It's really a winner.

Oh, and Cingular reps are clueless, getting your information off the street is more reliable....had to say that somewhere :D

LG CU500 a Rip-off

Dec 20, 2006 by disappointing2me

1. I was told the LG CU500 phone was a $300 phone. The Cingular store offered it to me at $159. I held off and kept coming back for a month until I got a "deal" of 2 phones for $100 plus tax. Imagine my surprise, when Best Buy offered the same phone for $49.99 and it came with accessories. I didn't get a DEAL from Cingular.

2. I received no accessories from Cingular.

3. I went to 4 Cingular stores. None have the USB cable, and you have to get the data card from a store like Target. This is to be able to interact with the computer to transfer pictures, games, and ring tones. Total price: around $60 plus tax.

4. No games came with the LG CU500 phone. NONE! I could not believe it! A "$300" phone with no games? The card next to it said Games.

5. In order to get games or ring tones thru Media Net, you have to pay for them. Why should I pay $9.99 per month plus tax and hidden charges for the privilege of SHOPPING? It's not like they have Women's Basketball scores or anything exclusive. Media Net was a disappointment and offered nothing better than going thru the internet. The interface was time consuming and non-intuitive. I will go online thru my computer and save my minutes.

6. The two phones were supposed to come from Santa for Christmas. Cingular could not activate the new phone in the future, and could not understand why I would want to. So I had to switch phones 2 weeks early. Forget surprising my wife. It disallowed her phone service on the old phone while she was in the middle of a phone call.

I finally went online and got the USB cable other than from Cingular. Instead of paying $30, I paid $13. As for Media Net, I am cancelling. I am not paying Cingular another cent than I have to. Next time, I am getting the Verizon plan thru work. Based on this experience, I would neither say Cingular nor the LG CU500 is world class.
