Phone was good, but gradually got worse

Dec 19, 2006 by mikefly562

The phone perfomred great when I first got it, but since then, the quality of the phone has dropped...it drops calls, and gets extremely poor reception compared with the sony s710a. While the mp3 player is okay and can hold a lot of songs, the camera is so horrific. I can't believe it's a 1.3 megapixel...the s710a was sooo much better. Overall ,this phone started off decent, but now, I think this phone is no good.

I Love This cell phone!

Dec 9, 2006 by bjbreck

I absolutely love this phone! It's a lot more sturdy than the RAZR for sure. I owned the CU500 once before and my dog chewed it up and i still upgraded to the same phone. This phones ring is extremely loud which worked great for the use of the alarm clock. It also allows you to hear people perfectly. It has the swivel camera which is very convenient and dependable considering it has a 1.3 mega pixel camera. I like that it has both internal and external picture displays.

I will agree the chirping that you can't take off is a tid bit annoying..but i have learned to deal with it:)

Device LG CU500 and esential phone functions.

Oct 18, 2006 by microwaved

I owned this device for only 2 days.
The network is singular.
The LG CU500 showing signal as 3G with 3 to 4 bars.

The device LG CU500 have missing basic phone functions.

1 - Alert you about incoming call.
LG and singular (conference call) confirmed me that ascending ringing is the only option on this device. No hope on altering this design.

2 - Receive and transmit voice with minimal or no distortions ( so you recognize your Mather ). Using this device all world is on VOX, not stable, fluctuating in volume. You cant trust the volume setting of this device.

This two functions are not on LG CU500.
My rating as phone is NULL !!!
If you searching cool device ( not cool phone) then ignore this review.

CU500

I like the phone but I am ticked off at Cingular and/or LG for not putting voice dial on this phone.
Beware! You cannot put on a bluetooth headset and voice dial a contact or number. Really stupid considering that's the most basic use of bluetooth. Way to think about consumer safety (driving).
You can buy the voice command service from Cingular (how convenient) but you still have to use the phone to dial *8.

P.S. The name of the vice president in charge of new products is David Christopher.
Found that in a search of the web when looking for someone to gripe to.

LG CU500

I work for CIngular Wireless, and they recently gave us this phone to demo. We turned in our old phones and have begun the 3G revolution.

Personally, I love this phone. The sound quality on the handset is amazing. Never have I enjoyed a phone as much as this one.

I upgraded from a SLVR, and I was weary about giving up the phone I knew, to try something never before seen, but once i used it, I knew this was the phone for me.

The mp3 capability is my favoirte feature, as is the cingular video. Clips of my favorite shows, and music videos, all at the touch of a button. The bluetooth works seamlessly, and the rest of the features, such as camera, messaging, im, they all seem to be improved from any other wireless device I have used in recent years.

The MICROsd slot is a little awkward, but still not hard to get used to. Being as we had no accessories for this phone yet, I made some compromises. The Cingular side pouch for the Razor fits this phone perfect, and I purchased a card reader for my computer, as i was unable to find a usb cable hookup for less than 30 dollars. Just a quick drop and load of files, and I have music on the go.

All in all, very impressed by Cingular's leaps and bounds, and in bringing in the 3rd generation of new phones.

Incomplete

Aug 24, 2006 by renegadecingulardealer

The CU500 bundles some great features into a phone. The camera and video camera are of good quality and the music player is a nice feature. Combine that with bluetooth, speakerphone and modern, attractive design and you've got a pretty nice phone.
Unfortunately if you buy one from cingular you've got an incomplete phone. You don't get the headphones or the data cable/software bundle in the box with your new phone. You also don't get the necessary memory chip to store video and music on. Basically right out of the box you get a camera phone and nothing else. If you want to store video longer than a few seconds or music to listen to you'd better shell out a few bucks for the necessary hardware.

3G is great; phone could have been excellent

Aug 6, 2006 by killadingo

I've had the CU500 for about 5 days now, and think its a great device, but it could have been even better with a few extra features.

PROS:
3G is great in Northern, VA, especially at home. I feel like I'm getting even better coverage than my prior service (former AT&T).

Nice form factor, not quite as slick as a RAZR, but nice.

CONS:
No Voice Dialing - major drawback as I would have loved to use that in conjunction with a bluetooth headset while driving my manual.

No flash

Downloaded Java apps (not from Cingular) prompt you frequently to accept them. No way to accept permanently.

Not Impressed

Mar 20, 2007 by djbolt

This is a middle of the road review because the phone has a few great features and then some features that pretty much will drive you crazy. I sent it back for a Samsung Sync. 95% of the issues could have been fixed with a simple firmware upgrade from Cingular, but what do they care, you already bought the phone.

PROS
-The phone has a nice look to it
-Nice clock options
-Very fast text messaging
-Nice keyboard layout
-Nice displays
-Good music player
-Very fast internet

CONS (more importantly reasons not to purchase the phone)
-The bottom half of the phone is rather sharp and is not comfortable in your hand.
-The volume rocker button and menu button are really hard to push and both located on the left side.
-Confirmation tones when sending a text message. One when you send and another when it leaves the outbox. Cannot be disabled unless phone is put on vibrate or silent. Huge mistake for the text messaging fool that I am.
-I could not use a custom text message alert tone, only the 11 default tones.
-offers a mp3 player, but no matter what mp3 i uploaded onto the phone, the file was too large to set as a ringtone.
-THE NAVIGATION KEYS ARE PRE-PROGRAMMED AND CANNOT BE CHANGED. This should be illegal as maybe I dont want the left button to be "My stuff" (Im used to the Razr in which everything is customizable.. come on LG its 2007)
-Supports microSD that is in a very awkward place, but does not support the 2GB version... thought this was supposed to be an mp3 phone. Why would anyone get a microSD card less than 2GB they are 30 bucks on ebay.
-Battery life was less than par. Apparently if you turn on bluetooth like for a headset, then turn off the headset, the bluetooth stays on and drains battery. Music player and general use also drained the battery. I had to charge every night for a few hours with normal use. I charge my razor about 2 hours every 2 days.

Overall, dont buy.

Coming from a Nokia 6682

Jul 30, 2006 by wolvmarine

I haven't really let go of the 6682.

First of all to try to help the guy above me. You do not have to get a $65/mos plan to use the HSDPA. I am using it now w/ my $20/mos unlimited Internet. I have used it with my PDA/AXIM X50v and the speed is awesome. It is just a tic slower than my WiFi at home. It so impressive that I am thinking of foregoing the Cox Cable and go through Cingular's Broadband but I haven't linked it through my computer yet. Sadly, I need to carry around a BT adapter w/ my laptop to tap into the speed.

Not even compares to the 6682, namely the OS is like going back to Command Line OS. I realize that the OS is more common to what a regular phone has but doesn't compare w/ Symbian. Yes, I am so addicted to Symbian now.

The Camera is crude compared to the 6682

I really hate that the copied the Razr so closely. It's actually taller when its opened up since the top part is the full length versus 7/8 as the Razr where the top parts tucks into the second half. Not nearly as pretty as the Razr which makes it more irritating.

I bought this solely for the HSDPA purpose. I have read that there is bad reception. But I find it pretty good considering the 6682 is the only cell phone I have ever seen stay connected through 15 floors of an elevator chute at work, AMAZING. Some thanks goes to Cingular as well, but mostly to the 6682.

I am now wondering... Since Symbian OS is so flexible why can't HSDPA protocol software not be loaded on and fore go my step back in time OS. Wondering if I could keep Cingular SIM card in each phone as use them interchangeably.

Since a $200 one time cost would pay for itself after a few month if it replaces my Cable Broadband...?

Also wondering if the BT would be the narrow spot on the broadband???

Expensive

Dec 19, 2006 by EllenG

For anyone who is considering this phone you should know that you must puchase quite a few additional items to use this phone to its fullest. We have had these phones for several days and everyday I find out something else we must purchase. The most expensive item is the memory card. You must have this if you want to use the MP3 player. Also you must buy LG earphones, usb cord, and car charger.

Lastly, do not depend on a phone salesperson. I have spoken to several and basically they do not understand this phone and/or its features.

I almost understand it but... I spent twice as much as I expected to.
