I finally gave up trying to like this phone

Mar 6, 2007 by johnnyMO

I was so excited to get this phone about two months ago. Unfortunately it's been an incredibly frustrating experience. I really wanted to like this phone and tried hard to convince myself that I would 'get used to it', but I finally gave up, went back to Verizon and added a line to my account so I could get a 'traditional' LG flip phone. I turned off the Q, put it back in the box and threw it in the back of the closet.
PROS--
--It's lightweight.
--I've had excellent customer service with VerizonWireless and excellent signal and sound quality nationwide with all my other phones in the past and the new LG I have now.
CONS--
--I got horrible phone reception with the Q.
--Very sluggish performance using other aps.
--Camera/photo ap gave poor quality photos.
--Overall.... very disappointed.

Don't buy it.

Slow slow slow slow. Random lock ups. Short battery life. Random shut downs. Windows mobile sucks. Random errors when trying to make calls. Constantly have to shut down programs. Reception sucks too. If this phone is free don't get it.

One pro, it's size and shape are great.

I went through 3 Q's before I got sick of trading them in. Owning the Q is like Chinese Water torture.

Service was with Verizon

MOTO Q- not what you think

soo many problems with this phone:
needs restarted frequently
messages freeze, so you have to dial your balance to push your texts
many screens freeze then you scream and throw the phone in a fire.
get a normal phone, or samsung pda.

Pros: cool looking phone kinda black berry (if u never had one before) , can use all your IM's on it, internet

Cons:Week signal, doesn't work in remote areas away from big city, no its not the service , my other sprint phone worked but this one doesn't, CSR will say sprint TV , GPS all works on this Liar.... Sprint TV does not work , GPS wont work , you cant send images in text message , and to top off all this mine crashed in 2 months. The phone got stuck in flash more (black screen of death, like the computers blue screen of death), will not turn on or anything, all the contacts everything on it is GONE , after i googled this Q problem i see lots of ppl have this issue and its a known issue with this phone , Glad i have insurance on the phone , they will replace it but still all your contacts and other imp details are gone.

Decent phone.

Ok so when I first got this phone I was like, WOW! The features were and still are fun, but the battery just didn't last even a day. The phone software is sort of buggy, but the display is gorgeous and I was able to text with lightening speed thanks to the handy dandy little QWERTY keyboard. Overall it is good phone, if you can overlook the quirks.

New level of PHONE FREEZING

Dec 28, 2007 by MobilePhoneVeteran

I've been a mobile phone owner since the late 1980's and have owned more phones then I can count. I've had the Q for nine months. Prior to the Q, I had a Moto v550 and a Treo 650 at the same time with two separate lines. I have enjoyed the form and function of the Q; it looks great and feels great in the hand. Especially compared with the Treo, but I definitely miss the PDA features and have struggled with reliability which is why I'm hitting it so hard on the rating scale. Here's the summary:

Pro:
Nice package
Simple to operate
Blue-tooth is good
Screen is clear and looks good
Good voice control
Web is relatively fast in metro areas

Cons:
Overall... Very unreliable
Camera can freeze and disappear
Blue-tooth can freeze and disappear

... and the worst problem of all... IF the phone gets cold, as in below 65 degrees, it will power off and will not turn back on unless you remove the battery. Even then, it will often require warming the phone to get it to recognize the battery again.

After owning several Moto phones over the years, this may be my last.

WHAT A JOKE. IM SPEECHLESS

Nov 16, 2007 by Cripknievel

Where do i start....i bought this thing on ebay, seemed like a cool phone. I have had every single phone verizon has had out in the past 4 years...i mean every one of em! This was my first smart phone from them thou...MISTAKE! All the bad things i read about the phone were true, battery life is so terrible i feel like punching my computer screen even talking about it, and it had the extended battery! It takes forever to charge, but drains in less than a day with little usage.

Software is terrible, glitchy, phone needs to be reset all the time to get it to work.

I couldnt figure out how to shut the screen off when i talk on it...screen about melts your face off while you talk.

Keyboard is JUNK. cant type one handed, software is so slow, when you press multiple letters like "tell" or "screen" "banana" it simply cant keep up and just doesnt put them in the text/email. Frustrating? cant even begin to tell you how much.

Alarm clock is a joke. Chirps once and wont do it again. Snooze is a pain in the butt to. When im sleeping i want to hit a BUTTON to go to snooze!! not enter the flipping settings of the phone to make it snooze for 5 more minutes. i might as well get up.

Cant read the clock on the home screen (no biggie to some, but when i look at my phone it would be nice to see the time without staring at the darn thing).

Going from a Vcast capable phone with my VZnav and everything else to this pile that doesnt have it....sucks. Not a biggie to some, but hey it annoyed me.

I could go on all night but i wont. Here is one positive thing about it...

The speaker is LOUD and clear. Thats it.

Hopefully someone will read this and avoid themselves the trouble of dealing with the Q.

Not worth your money

When I first saw this phone I thought it was amazing, I finally got enough money to buy it & was so excited, I loved the features & the simplicity of the phone,& all that jazz. Calls were crystal clear compared to my old Sanyo Katana. It also holds battery life very well, I never put my phone down & I'm constantly text messaging 10,000 a month. It lasts the whole day for me, & even 1/2 of the next day. It was heaven in a hand device.

Until, about 3 weeks into receiving the phone I checked the time & then set the phone down. I went to check again & noticed that the phone completely shut off. I knew it wasn't the battery, I had just charged it the night before. I ignored the problem. A few days later it started to do it again & more consistently, then the phone started making random calls when I didn't even have service which charged for roaming. After weeks of stress with the phone, phone companies & the store I purchased it from I was able to get a brand new one.

I've had this phone for a week & 2 days exactly. I'm already having problems with it. The end key won't work sometimes when I'm in text messaging. the Internet, it just won't work at all sometimes, I even had to take the battery out just to restart the phone. I have problems with it freezing too, one day I wasn't getting a signal so I decided to reconnect the network & it froze up on me & I had to restart by taking the battery out. I also have had problems with the menu, last night I was unable to select certain programs on the menu - which then I had to restart the phone again. After every time I restart it it works fine, but about 24 hours after restarting it I notice problems again.

The stress that this phone has caused me, the time, the gas money - in the end it's not even close to being worth it. The manager at the store I got it from said that more people are starting to see problems with this phone, and the quality has gone down greatly. Take that as a fair warning before you drop $500+.

Absolutely Worthless Garbage

Oct 3, 2007 by Raycefan

In short, this phone is crap. This phone is such a piece of garbage, when anything else in the world wants to be garbage, it has to pay this phone royalties. The headphones do not work, period. Why? Not sure. I'm guessing it has something to do with Motorola's moronic idea to use a mini USB plug for their headphones, but I can't prove it. There is no way to turn the ringer volume up. If you want to use the speakerphone function, you have to turn the damn thing on after you answer every call or after you dial every call because for some reason it will not stay on all the time after you turn in on once. The number of websites you can access via the internet function is miniscule to say the least. Of course, that may just be the result of living in Alaska and the piss poor coverage we get up here, I'm not sure. This was a gift from my wife, and I love her, but I hate this phone with a passion. Because of this phone I now also hate everything Motorola. Especially if you live in Alaska, as I do, I suggest you not waste your money on any "smart" phone until one of the major wireless providers decides to cure themselves of rectal-cranial inversion syndrome (head up their ass) and realizes there are paying customers up here, too, and comes to compete with ACS and GCI (two local wireless providers). Hell, any company who comes up here and gives mediocre coverage with sub-par customer service would be doing tons better than either one of them. In review, the Motorola Q phone is the worst piece of crap waste of money you could ever buy bar none.

Sexy, Well Performing Smart Phone

Aug 17, 2007 by Axe0312

I highly reccommend this phone to anyone looking for a smartphone's capabilities, without the ugly look of such. I'm using the phone in Cleveland through Alltel, and there are very few complains I have after one month's use.

Pro's

Very nice, clear screen
Well designed keyboard
Intuitive Controls
Email Click-Wheel
Windows Mobile
Keeps a great signal at all times
Very fast when used as a modem
Voice Quality and Volume are Great

Cons

Speaker quiet when playing Mp3's
