Onlya few things wrong

Dec 28, 2006 by camarodude22285

The only thing about this phone that is not what i expected or wanted is battery life. If you generally use your phone then in 12 hrs it will be completely dead. Must buy the extended battery.

Everything else about this phone is bad ass not to mention that everyone thinks it is cool.

Would i buy it again if i had to do it over. Yes because verizon doesnt have much else too offer. Palm is going out of business and wont assist u with technical problems. Blackberrys have no camera. This is the phone to have.

Overall, The Q is Great

This phone is one of the best I have ever had. The signal strength is wonderful, for voice calls. The data speeds are very good. But, the best part is the fact that there are many programs out for this phone to allow you to customize it.

I have had this phone since the beginning of June, and purposely didn't review it until software came out for it. Now that there is an abundance of software available, I don't think I will ever use another phone. Normally, I get bored with phones after about 3 months....I have had this for 6 and I can't think of anything else VZW has out that I would trade this for.

Pros:
Signal Strength
Form Factor
STEREO BLUETOOTH
EVDO Data
Windows Operating System
Amount of customization software available
Wireless Sync works with GMail

Cons:
Keyboard doesn't always recognize key presses
Dust gets under the screen too easily
Verizon limiting unlimited data

Overall, I would recommend this phone to anyone. It is great in a corporate setting, looks beautiful, and functions great.

The only people I would advise against getting this phone are people who need to be able to edit office documents on the device. If you need that functionality, look at a treo.

If you need a basic smartphone....this device is your dream come true.

As good as it looks..

I have used almost every phone verizon has to offer and for all around performance, I think the moto Q is a great gadget. I will start with the pros:

1. Size and weight
2. Array of third party software available for the Q
3. Loud speakerphone and headset
4. Modified Bluetooth for file transfers and headset
5. Functionality once your are familiar with the phone is very quick and easy to use.

Now the cons:
1. Slight system lag
2. Task Manager, often i find myself having to kill all programs due to them consistantly running after you click on other programs which causes poor battery and phone performance.
3. The camera could have been alot better and more clear

Overall, I think this phone is a great bargain for the price. I have owned the treo 700, lg 9800 and 9900 and have got to say the q for overall performance is the best. The battery life isnt the best but with a car charger and charger at work, I am fine. I dont like the weight and thickness of the extended battery. Also the Q is coming out in black and the feel and texture of the black Q is nice and sort of a rubber type material which should avoid cosmetic damage of everyday usage.

I tried....But Got Tired of Compromising

Nov 6, 2006 by Razruzr

A couple years ago decided that I was done compromising my expectations when using a Microsoft Windows operating system, so I switched to Mac. It was the best move I have ever made. Then the Q came out and I was sucked in by it's looks and what it promised to do, although I could couldn't care less about playing MP3's and watching videos on my phone. I bought it in June immediately started to compromise. WM5 is Windows Lite, I had to purchase a decent task and calendar program (papyrus and facade rock, by the way). I got used to dropped calls and the phone not hanging up when I was done with the call. I had to remove the battery to fix that problem a couple times a day.

I had the phone for a couple months and then it stopped connecting to the Internet and would not retrieve my emails. Verizon's answer was to do a hard reset. This means that everything is wiped clean and you have to reload every program you loaded initially. I couldn't get reception in my office and had to move to my conference room whenever I needed to take a call. But I compromised, as almost everyone does when they use a Motorola/Windows product.

The last straw was last week when, for whatever reason, the phone stopped connecting to the Internet again and I could not longer get emails anymore. Again, the answer, HARD RESET. My life was in that phone and now I was told that I had to completely rebuild the phone back to the way I had it.

I was done. I went to Verizon and ended up paying full price for the Blackberry 8703e. While the transition was weird at first, after just three days, I can tell you that the Q is a "pretty piece of junk" now that I know how a PDA/smartphone should work. The BB is amazing & I can take calls in my office!

I really tried to love the phone, but I got sucked in and started accepting flaws that I shouldn't have.

Pros

Looks
Looks
Looks

Cons

Reception
Stability
App Speed
battery life
everything else that's important in a smartphone

"Q"uite The Phone

Oct 7, 2006 by FknTwizted

I sell Verizon and I get to play with the phones, and I would have to say that this is a very solid phone. I carry the XV6700 and the only reason i went to the 6700 is that it was touch screen and it had pocket excel, word, and power point... But now there is a programs that you can buy now for that. On top of that the Q is based on getting a pda into "1" hand instead of the left holding and the right styling. Other then that I just bought the phone and really like the size. Only thing I don't like about it is the buttons a bit small for my hands, hence the reason I didn't pick up the Treo. As far as Palm vs Microsoft.... MS way better first you can get on the internet, and sync very easy with any ms based computer.....

PROS:

-1 Hand PDA
-LCD vs Touch Screen (for brightness)
-Slim and Sleek
-Windows Programs (Windows Media Player)
which can play mp3, wma, wav, and wmv files which means yes you can watch movies with this bad boy.
-Internet
-Can use Bluetooth Headphones & Ear Pieces
-Wireless Sync with emails
-Back Up Assistant (with PDA PACKAGE)
-1.3 Mega Pixel Camera and Video

CONS:

-Battery Life (But hey to give credit can your phone do excel spreadsheets, word files, get on the internet, check you email, so on so on....)
-Sometimes Touch Screen would be nice

Q = Quirky. Do not buy this thing.

This phone was handed to me "new in box" as the new standard sales phone at my Co. At first I was jazzed --what a sexy little phone. email, web access, slick package --what more could you want? Then I turned it on...And was greeted with the following double secret features (DSF's):

DSF #1--Time to go to your happy place.

After pressing the Power button, put this baby down and head for the coffee machine 'cause she needs to "boot up" just like your PC. typical turn on time is about 45-55 sec. (ok, maybe this is not a big deal. IF you only had to do it once a day I would agree --keep reading)

DSF #2 --Auto Turn Off

Much like your fancy iron at home- When not in use the Q will "Quit" (clever marketing perhaps?) Thats right, the phone will power completely off for no apparent reason. need to turn it back on? No problem, simply remove the battery cover, extract the battery, wait a few seconds, replace the battery, replace the battery cover, flip the Q over and hit that power button one more time and wait for "boot up" to complete- again. expect this feature to activate randomly between 3 and 5 times a day --Usually when you are expecting an important call
(Yes, Thank you very much, I did have the key lock on and the battery had a full charge)

DSF# 3 -- Character Building Crashes

Need to make an urgent call while in the presence of an important customer? The Q will get the job done about 50% of the time. the rest of the time the phone will display "Dialing..." and just lock up. to clear it up you need to power the phone off completely and experience the joy of DSF#1 again

DSF #4 -- Incoming Call Filter

Expecting an urgent call? you may never know if you missed it 'cause the Q will only let calls in from people it likes. My wife is apparently not on this list and can call as often as she likes but the phone does not ring and will only randomly display missed calls or message waiting indicators.

-a very bad experience

Very Nice PHONE FIRST!! PDA 2nd

Just a couple of what I would have thought simple things that I am really surprised the Q does not have:

1) Auto Key lock after a pre set time like the Treo 700W had wherein you just tap the center bar to unlock it.

2) A Notepad editor built in as opposed to having to go through the BS of getting an outside program. The program I got was only $14.95 and works great. It lousy that I had to spend so much time finding out what to do. On a phone of this cost, that should just be built in.I did not even care so much about editing, but the viewer that comes with the phone does not wrap text. YOu have to zoom in and then pan around to read a document which is lousy. Just a reader would do that would allow you to easily read a WORD document. With the $14.95 MotePad editor, you have to change you WORD doc's to 'plain text' format when saving on the Q.

3) No way to have 'text' messages flash up automatically when they come in.

4) No way to adjust the absurdly loud boot tone.

5) Just personal preference but I would rather have the wheel on the left side. I do not even use it on the right side.

6) I also hate the location of the 'shift' key. I would rather have it on the left side as well.
