v176 Net10 review

Dec 16, 2008 by JaneDoe2

First the CONS:
If you have the Net10 version of this V-176, you will NOT have a calendar!! This is misrepresenting advertising and there should be specs for ALL versions of the V-176. Even the lNEWEST Net10 V176 phone has a calendar!

In not having this important feature, one cannot set reminders for appointments, etc past the current day.

Second, this phone has VERY minimal/basic customized display settings. BORING!

The polyphonic ringtones SUCK and are have a lot of static, and make a short 'clicking' sound before and after ringtone plays.

The text messaging is S-L-O-W and cannot keep up with average typing of words/numbers.

Unlike the CURRENT Net10 design, this phone does NOT have the very convenient feature of "Call Screening." This feature (on current Net10 phones) allows one to put unwanted callers on a list where your phone does not RING when that particular caller calls. Yet, the call goes into a list where you know they called. TOO KOOL!

Any other cons I can live with. What do ya expect for a pre-paid phone that comes free with the $30 minutes that you buy? I just wish there were more upgraded Net10 phones!

PROS: A pretty decent phone for free with minutes! And I really like the design and flip-top! The numbers are way easier to press than the current, standard Net10 phone. But the ringtones are crisper/clearer on current Net10 standard phone.

An okay phone for a short time.

I owned this phone for less than one year. I purchased it with a prepaid plan and it worked okay from the start. It never worked the way that I would have liked it to. It never seemed to have service when my daughter's phones would have service and we had the same carrier just different phones. My phone was touchy from the beginning on whether you could get a signal or not. I live in a very populated area, so it's not like I live where it should have a problem getting a signal.

Then I started having serious problems with the phone. It would not just loose signal, but every time I'd go to use it for anything, calling, texting, or just trying to set an alarm, it'd go to a black screen. Then about 15 seconds later it'd come back saying that it didn't have service, then about 7 seconds after that it'd find service again. Then I'd try to use it again and it'd do this all over again. It quit working and we ordered a new SIM card, which helped for about a month and then it started all over again. It became very frustrating, it got to where I couldn't use it at all because it would always go to that black screen and go through all of those steps again. One time out of ten I would be able to actually make a call, text, or do anything else with it. The texting was the most annoying because not only would it go to black screen, but it'd loose everything that I had typed.

I'd say don't waste your time on this phone. There are much better phones out there around the same price range, this one I owned for 10 months and had nothing but trouble with it after month number 3, just after my limited warranty ran out. Don't waste your money and time with purchasing this phone, it's not worth it!

Serious Charging Issues Inherent

Not worth a penny if you can't charge it correctly or charge it at all. Charging issues go down hill quickly.
