LG VX-9800 Rocks and so does Verizon

Oct 28, 2005 by romeros1

This phone is awesome. The service (so far) is awesome too. I have had sprint, T-mobile, and alltel. Verizon by far is the best! I have had the LG VX-9800 for a month and it is the perfect phone for people who want advanced features but do not want a PC phone.

PROS: MP3/Media player (easy to use and transfer files using mini SD card)

QWERTY keyboard is awesome for text. My hands are big and I feel comfortable with this keyboard.

Great reception and sound.

Awesome sharpness on main screen

easy to navigate (didn't have to read instructions to operate all features on phone)

Voice text is cool 2

battery life is awesome!

CONS: No full internet (but WAP internet is fine for me)

size is a little bulky (but not overkill)

Phone is a little pricy thru verizon at $300 w/2year agreement

Overall, this phone is awesome for novice users like me. Previously I only had the basic flip phones and have never used PC phones, so this is just my take.

excellent phone!

I would give this a 5 but of course, all new phones come with a few software glitches. Hopefully an upgrade will fix most of them.

PROS:
1. Loud Earpiece Volume - I can still tell it fluctuates, but it doesn't matter because it's still loud when it does it. Plus if you turn on earpiece gain

2. Keyboard is awesome. I'm still getting used to it, but I love the fact that you don't have to keep on switching menus to do symbols and stuff like that.

3. Text to speech is fun to play with. All my friends trip when they hear my messages read to me by this phone.

4. BT headset pairs up nicely. More crisper and less crackley. Only problem is other person hears echo when they speak, but I can hear them fine and they say I sound fine as well.

5. I bought a 512 miniSD card and it works great. I have 2 albums and 3 movies on my phone right now. I'm watching Jamie Foxx (I Might Need Security) while at work doing this review.

CONS:
1. Camera is OK. Nothing beats the 8000 right now. Camera is practically useless in dark places even with flash. I haven't tried night mode yet, hope it will improve the quality though.

2. Of course there are a few software glitches. One of them is the keyguard, sometimes you can still increase the volume even though keyguard is on. I can't think of the other right now but I know they exist.

All-in-All love the phone!

LG 9800: Great Phone for some

Oct 1, 2005 by Frank V

I will hold off with going either up or down on my rating, until I get more experience with the phone. However, with my limited experience, I can tell you that this phone does MORE than the LG 8100 I have now, so don't let anyone tell you differently.

The 9800's brick shape is unusual and takes some getting used to (I'm not there yet, but I see it happening). I bought this phone because I needed a larger keyboard for text messaging, but for a few other reasons as well.

The screen on this phone is much richer than even on the 8100, which wasn't too shabby either. Even better, is the camera. Both are 1.3 MP, but, as a professional photographer of over 20 years, I'm here to tell you that the photographs I made from this phone blew me away! They are far superior to the 8100's (which wasn't that great, to be honest). The videos are also better.

The mp3 player sounds a bit better, and seemed to struggle less with the same tunes I uploaded on it as I had on the 8100, though I'm not sure why. The speakers on the 9800, which are exposed when you flip the candy bar open, sound fine, but I highly doubt anyone is going to listen to songs on the phone's speakers (at least, I hope not).

Now, to the real purpose of the phone..it's to make and receive phone calls, isn't it? Oh, well, that's what I always thought! Sadly, I cannot yet tell you my experience in that department as Verizon doesn't activate the 9800 until tomorrow, Saturday, October 1. I would expect it to be on par with the 8100 in that department.

Other differences: Better email access. The 8100 uses MSN, the 9800 syncs wtih Outlook. The 9800 has longer battery life and Text to speech. This is not for everyone, but a great phone for some!

Had 4 of them

Sure, any phone isn't perfect, as is this phone, but it doesn't mean there are going to be some likers of the phone, as is this phone, w me also.

1st phone had broken screen, It wasn;t color the whole screen looked gray.

2. The phone froze at the Verizon turn on screen, a common bug I hear

3. Water damaged, and the keys on the inside sometimes weren't functioning, try texting on that?!?

4. Finally I kept this one, it had no major flaws, I can say looking back at technology, and so far having phones I have dropped and broken, this is one I may go back with because even though I was kind of getting mad at in the other reviews, it is still something I wouldn't complain about getting if I had to.

This phone. The perfect purchase? Let's review,

The phone contains a:
-1.3 megapixel camera
-full QWERTY keyboard
-2 LED screens (1 inch and 2 inch)
-dual surround sound speakers
-0.162 dot pitch
- 65K-colors at 128 x 160 px in resolution
-256 x 320 px in resolution
-MSM messaging

This phone is perfect. Purchase it for a cheap price on eBay or Amazon. Don't go with terrible touch screen phones. Trust me. The perfect choice!

*dependable
*good battery life
*sturdy*

Cons
*bulky I hate how bulky it was especially in my pocket

A Dream Come True

I give this phone a 4.5 only because of its size. However, it's worth it! I went through hoops to get this phone. I ended up with this phone because I discovered a software called Bitpim. This would allow me to create my own ringtones instead of choosing from a long list of artists that I did not want to have on my phone. I'm a Donna Summer fan, so I wanted Donna Summer ringtones. Now, I am able to create any ringtone I want from any artist I want and from any section of a song that I want. Thanks to Bitpim, Wavepad, and the LG VX9800's compatibility to perform this task. No money spent on ringtones and the abiblity to custom my phone to my liking. It's a now discontinued phone, but it still rocks!

Ok, so I'm a third time LG user, and I've had the 9800/V for about 3 months now. Honestly I can say I am impressed by performance.
Sorry to say other things also :
I am finding difficult to load MP3 songs locally, Palakkad, Kerala. Not able to use transfer or recive via Bluetooth. Please guide me on this.
I am only proud owner of LG 9800 Hand set in Palakkad, Kerala.
I already checked with your local service people which they were not aware of this phone.

Very good VZW phone

Jul 5, 2007 by christyxcore

Had this for a few months when I started my VZW contract last year, before I tried out more phones (this phone is now my mom's, family plan)

Pros:
- Keyboard
- Resolution
- Fast menu
- Internet is fast with EVDO, keyboard makes it so much easier.
- Call quality excellent reception fantastic (Cerritos, CA)
- Call volume is very good, speakerphone is loud and clear.
- Music player is great

Cons:
- Keyboard can leave marks on the inner screen
- Big and bulky
- Camera was decent except for the slow shutter speed and couldn't take good pics in darker light situations
- Must open phone to do most things
- Can't multitask with the music player
- Extended battery makes it too big.
