Awesome Phone

Aug 5, 2005 by kelvin24

Pros:

-tons of features: MP3, video, 1.23mp digicam, speakerphone, included headset
-MP3 ringtones is fun
-the digicam shoots surprisingly good pictures
-the videos are fluid and good quality
-really nice screen
-really clear, good reception
-really loud, sensitive and useful speakerphone
-expandable memory
-interface is intuitive and attractive

Cons:
-its too loud...i can't turn down the volume enough without turning it off
-LED flash produces a light blue fuzz on bottom right of the screen
-MP3's dont sound that great, even through the headset
-lots of features, but only the screen, speakerphone, reception and headset excel. the other features are mediocre.

Conclusion: awesome phone. a must have. people surround me to look at it =). really useful too i use it as my organizer as well.

Pretty Good - Getting there finally

Jul 19, 2005 by seindjat

I've had tons of phones, and this is my latest, and I think it is finally getting there. It has almost all possible features, but has some drawback still:

CONS:
- has no timer feature
- when phone is closed, pictures can be accidentaly taken when the phone is in the pocket
- only 30 incomming messages are kept and 80 outgoing no matter how much memory you have, very inconvinient
- camera must have perfect lightinng to take a good picture
- when you flip the phone open, it sometimes freezes for a second before picture comes up
- battery is not as good as stated
- phonebook has a flaw, you cannot see how many numbers a person has while looking up phonebook
- a little too bulky, can be made much smaller and lighter
- messaging has a flaw - when you look up outgoing messages, it does not show you to whom you sent a message (sms), so you have to figure it out. it does not even show you which number it was sent to

PROS
- has almost all available features, so pretty good overall

Great Phone !!

Great Phone, everything we have waited for!!

Pros: Great RF, great volume, good design. I have a European version so the firmware isn't the best, but once it gets over here, I'm sure the modders will go to town.

Cons: None that won't be corrected in time.

Nice Phone...BUT?

Jun 10, 2005 by crjt1

This is a really nice phone...many terrific features...but.

Again the Motorola font must be improved. Moto continues to struggle with poor font quality and the V635 is no exception. The font should be a bit thicker and or larger, along with maybe some font options. I'm sure an easy fix could be provided by Moto to resolve this. Please correct the font Moto...then this phone has everything.

Thanks,
CRJT1

Not worth it if your not into fixing the problems it has!

Pros:

In short there are a lot of pros. You can read about them in the specs. I will just like to say it has everything I need and more.

Cons:

1. By far the worse thing I hated about this phone was a bug that when a person would sent me a voice message and I will get a text message instead that cost me 5 cents. What's worse is when I will then answer the voicemail and I will receieve another text message another 5 cents.

2. Don't like how sometimes there might be a problem with the phone where I have a hard time hearing the other person or the person has a hard time hearing me. Even when both of us have very good reception

3. I think I got a bad phone or bad battery. I will have to charge the phone everyday, even if I did not use it that day.

4. If you want to fix stuff on your phone you will have to buy a data cable and have to learn how to fix it too. I'm new to fixing stuff on phones. So I don't want to risk flashing it or flexing it. But I will seem edit it.

5. If you live in the US, and you get this phone, your service company cannot help you becuase it is an import phone.

6. You can't delete the standard ringtones, wallpapers, or videos. The only way to do that will be if you do a flash.

7. Picture quality IS NOT that good.

8. Reception IS NOT that good with this phone here in Los Angeles for me.

9. Hard to learn how to use the voice dial command. Hard to problem it too.

10. If you want to buy anyting for the phone it will cost a lot because it is an import phone.

11. Drop calls sometimes for no reason.

12. Sometimes that a long time to sent a text message.

This is my third phone, so I will have to say that in awhile this phone is way better than my previous phones. But in another way this phone really sucks! This phone has so many things it can do that it sometimes do regular phone stuff. People interested in this phone might consider getting something else. There just too many bugs/stuff to fix that it's not worth the money!

gotta love it!

i used to have a motorola v400 for a little over a year. i never really had any problems with that one. i was loooking on e-bay and found this amazing phone. mine came from germany, and it kinda scared me when i turned it on and everything was in german! but, whe i put my sim card in, it automatically switched to english. i LOVE that loud ringer, camera, games, setup, and overall look. (i was happy that the basic menu setup was the same as my old phone)the camera is absolutly awsome. i recently went to an outdoor concert at night. when i was taking pictures(on the LAWN section @ the back of the concert area...so about 100 yrds), i was able to take pretty decent pictures of the television screens. i think my dad paid about $215 including shipping. it came with the memory card too. the ONLY problem that i have had so far, is sometimes when it's ringing and i open it to answer, it still rings for a second, then connects the call. haven't used the bluetooth too much yet, but seems good. speekerphone hasn't given me any problems either.

this phone is awesome! i would recomend it to anyone who is looking for a durable motorola that has all the looks!!

Less than expected

Feature rich, but not up to the quality expected.
Reception was horrendous-and this was after returning one phone and trying another. Lost signal constantly and even when signal showed bars, sound was choppy-on both units. It is not the carrier, as I was holding a Nokia 6230 and a Samsung P-207 in the other hand and had great reception with both of those. If BOTH of the V635s were defective, I think this says even more about Motorola. As the lack of reception led me to return the phones, there was no reason to try the other features. I will say that the screen was beautiful and crisp.
The phone was very heavy and not what I am used to in my pocket. On a belt clip or holster, I would not notice the weight, but in a pocket a definite issue.

My Best Yet

Aug 7, 2005 by counsel4pay

After careful study here and at HoFo, I purchased a V635 from ebay. Mine came from France, but I have not bothered to flex/flash or update. With help of T-Mo technical support (thanks guys!) I got up and running with T-zones; e-mail; etc. Paired with a Tekkeon ezTalker ET2000 BT cordless headset, I am a very happy camper.

Most Important:

+ LOUD - I love it (you get some grey in your hair and the ears start to go!

+ Speakerphone -- crucial for me and my work.

+ Superior interior and exterior screens.

+ infinitely configurable

+ Best Moto phonebook I've had yet, but Siemens or others could teach them a thing or two

+ Best RF I've had yet out of 7 phones (3 Nokias, 1 Siemans, 2 Motos, and another I can't recall)

+ BATTERY LIFE IS AWESOME (Yes, I've read complaints here and elsewhere, but I have had no problems--superior battery life.

+ Best camera I've had, but, then again, that is not very important for me.

+ T-Mo US tech support does not care that this is not a "supported phone"--they work with me until we have a solution.

- There is a learning curve for this, as for most phones. Documentation could be more clear.

- I HATE fact that I can't seem to add multiple entries for people

I'm now going to get custom painted covers. This is a great phone, and I thank you and the HoFo guys for all your help.

Great!!

Jul 12, 2005 by jedwards

I just picked this baby up for $279 and ooh man, its got to be the nicest phone I've ever owned. I fell in love with its look, and its features are great too.

At howardforums I downloaded new firmware and that worked well, it didnt seem to change too much but I like being up to date with everything.

The picture quality of the phone is way better than the 710 that I owned before this (I just ported to t-mobile from verizon, prices are so much better). Speakerphone is average but it comes with the stereo headset so that rocks.

Also i bought a 128 transflash but i didnt know 256 was out yet cause i went to a store and they lied, so ill be getting one of those soon.

Definately, if you are going to move to GSM then this is the phone for you.
