the best phone!!!

Dec 12, 2005 by 05civse

I have had this phone for a few days now (replaced my v300 that fell into a pan of lacquer thinner) and it is awesome. I have had NO programing problems and it performs flawlessly! picture quality is incredible and takes great videos. It says that the limit for video length is 15 secs, untrue!! i got mine to take 1 min. and 45 sec. videos just buy going into the video setup window and changing the "video length" from mms (restricted to 15 secs so it will be small enough of a file to fit in a text message) to "maximum". this phone blows me away!

Pros:
*transflash! with a 512 mb card it can hold over 650 pics, around 690 mins. of mp3s, or over 100 mins. of video!!!!!
*very user friendly
*2 ways to listen to mp3s (mp3 player app. or in the "sounds" file)
*killer looks
*great batt. life
*tons of features
*the golf game and pic. editor are fun
*easy to transfer music to it
*simple to make rig tones from mp3s from parts of a song (can select where it starts, how long it goes, fade options, from a 1 sec blip of a song to the entire song) with Motorola's phone tools
*i could go on forever but now i just want to play with it!!!

Cons:
*cant think of any besides not offered by any U.S. carriers so you have to buy it from e-bay or something like that (although the e-bay sellers include tons of extras. i got a car charger, transflash card w/ sd adapter, leather case, Motorola's phone tools cd and usb cord, headphones, European to U.S. wall plug adapter, and something else that i can't remember for $250 shipped!!and with no contract!!)

Pro:
*the one con is a pro!!!!!

WOW!!! I mean WOW!!!

What else can I say about this phone but WOW!!! Words cannot describe the superiority of this device. My sympathy to American users that have to pay through the nose for the unlocked version of this remarkable device. I have been using GSM since Rogers launched it in 2001 and have never been more impressed than I have with this phone. I just got back from the UK and it worked remarkably well there as well. For Canadian’s that frequent this sight GET THIS PHONE. Roger’s found the perfect device when they launched this one. Kudos to Moto for finally getting it right.
A loyal Nokia user until I began to travel internationally (they have yet to make a quad band phone) Motorola was passable with the V60g and much better with the V600 (North of the border the software problems were never an issue like Cingular had). The V635 took everything the V600 had and built on it in ways I thought their engineers would never have imagined.
Pro’s: Inexpensive $249.99 on three year through Rogers wireless.
Comes with all required accessories for previous Vxxx users.
MP3 player, with above average ear buds.
Bluetooth with all available protocols. (Nasty Verizon, Bell & Telus up here do the same thing)
Camera, Video, flash all very high quality despite the plastic lens.
Easy to use menus, easy to use everything.
The list could go on.
Con’s: Not really a con just a gripe. Why include the USB cable if you aren’t including The mobile tools program.

Just a word to America wireless subscribers. You’ve got it really good. If your ever board or want to complain about rate plans, take a look at what us Canuks get for the prices you pay for wireless service. $110 a month for 200 Share minutes (2 phns) Unlimited call group (only phns on my account) Unlim N/W min @ 6pm. $79.99 Cingular 2 phns Unlim M2M (40 some million people) Unlim N/W. You guys got it good.

Pros
* contacts can be grouped; ability to show all groups or just a single group
* ability to show only the primary number
* solid construction
* good volume; good external speaker
* dedicated keys for camera and internet
* more control over settings than v551

Cons
* a bit heavy
* doesn't appear to be a way to store addresses and birthdates for contacts
* camera seems to have a blue hue
* doesn't come w/ USB or headphone
* MP3 player is slow to load
* some initial troubles with setting wallpaper (resolved)
* messaging settings should be accessible under 'Settings' menu; currently buried under messaging menu

Hate to do it but

This is my first review after searching this site and Howard’s forum for several months and finaly purchasing the v635 for $230 and the h850 blue tooth $59 to go with it.

First,

This phone is hardly perfect out of the box, far from it. The chances are you will get the 24r flash(software) and it has many bugs.

Problem 1. Voicemail. When you get a message you do not get a icon but a text message instead with a @ or a ! symbol. You then get a second message after you check your mail. I do not use text messages so if you do the math you are looking at 20 cents for every message and yes it adds up.

Problem 2.

The video recording with 24r is terrible. The sound is 1 to 2 seconds off from the pictures and for me makes recording a waste.

Problem 3. Forget about the fast forward cradle. I use to save 500 min a month with my v400 but you guessed it, it will not work with the v635 no matter what the flash you have.

Other general cons, Forget about using the flash, it’s a joke. You end up with a big white spot in the corner of your picture and a very bad image quality. Forget about internet until you add your wap settings. Signal strength for me here in Los Angeles went from 4 to 5 bars with my v400 to 2 to 3 with v635.

Pros? I wish I could say more but Bluetooth is about it.

Believe me I wanted to give this phone a ten! But there really is no way. To many bugs to many cons. YES, YES, I know there are many flash/seem edits to get rid of most problems but even the pros over at Howard’s are ending up with paper weights after trying them and for the avg joe who just wanted to use his phone he researched for months it’s a huge disappointment. There is a reason the phone was not released in the US folks and I found out the hard way. To all the 4.8 ratings I just want to say wow really!! Good luck

v635 Not That Good

I purchase my v635 in the month of July after a week of use i realized the phone started freezing up and also dropping most of my calls.Battery life could be better,on top of that i cannot access the screensaver.
