Motorola e815 All around great phone

First time ever owning a Motorola phone on the Verizon CDMA network. I would like to mention over all that this phone is defiantly considered quality. The appearance of the phone is professional, The keypad size is a comfortable amount of area for those who don’t have tiny fingers & the Camera is awesome. 40mb of memory is plenty of room for storing pictures and videos. And like every other individual you’ll really need to open a phone up before buying it and put it right up against your face as if you were to use it. The phones in the market today are so tiny the mic is either against my upper cheek or closer to my eye socket. The E815 is just right from ear to mouth with comfort.

Here in San Diego, CA The Verizon CDMA Network is always 4 bars plus. Even knowing there were pocket areas of no signal, causing drop calls with my past Kyocera phones. The Motorola has no problems making or receiving calls in these same areas. This was a main concern during the time of purchase.

Cons - The only two downfalls that I’ve came across was in Voice Commands and Contacts. I was disappointed that if the phone doesn’t recognize a contact name entered there is no other option to train the phone. I’m sure this would concern a Blue Tooth user other then my simple way of operation - Speed dial.
You can’t add a 2nd or 3rd phone number to any saved contact. So if you have a Home & Mobile number you would like to save for one person? Your going to have to enter this person twice. So, Again this reflects to the Voice Commands again. If you have a singled entered name TOM it will populate each and every number to this name. Now I’m looking down at the handset hoping that It choose the correct one “ Home, Mobile or Pager ” Correctly.

I did try to contact the Motorola’s customer care technical support department to better understand this and guess what? I was connected with someone named Linda from India who didn’t speak or understand English too well.

E815 Says it all!

I bought the Samsung sch-a890 just a few days before this phone was released. I exchanged it for the e815. The Samsung was a good phone, but lacked speaker phone, and I wanted that feature for driving.

Here's my thoughts for this perfectly functioning phone.

Pros

Up-to-date sleek looks
Call clarity
Reception, whip antenna
Size, not too small nor big
Bluetooth
Changeable skins
Camera
V-Cast
Speaker phone, with flip closed. Excellent when driving
DUN
Large main screen

Cons

I really can't find any!

Let me help you decide!

I have been researching the Motorola e815 for quite some time now, along with some other comparable Verizon phones. I want to provide you all with informative information to help you make the best decision. In the end, it will be your choice, however please give this phone a chance.

++My Pros++
Large internal screen with beautiful color and large fonts
External Lcd good for checking time of day also status
Reception is outstanding, even is certain analog areas
Calls are loud and clear
Bluetooth headset sounds almost perfect
Nice speaker-phone
Pull-out antenna
Photos taken are quick with no delay, very good quality
Buttons on side are easy to use nad do not get in the way
Vcast is amazing, but may cancel after trial. Not sure if it's worth $15
Connecting to my laptop is a breeze

--MY Cons--
Vcast could be quicker
videos are good, not great
OK button slightly small, but o.k.

Awesome phone, can't wait!

I borrowed my brothers E815 for one whole day, and I might not end up waiting till October for my NE2 upgrade!

just an awesome phone. whips its butt with the 8100 in terms of reception, features and looks.

-built in MP3 with playlist (shuffle/repeat options)
-speakerphone rules
-BT can be unlocked with sofware hacks (thats right! no cables or special software needed to upload ringtones and wallpaper after hacks!!).

i actually bought the 8100 and used it for a couple of days. what a disappointment. went back to my VX7000 and now might just pick this phone up sooner thx to my bro!

Best phone I've ever owned

I am another person who has had the phone with not one of the issues mentioned here. I upgraded from a Samsung a670 and this phone trumps it completely. I actually had purchased the v710 last year when it first came out and hated all the problems.....this phone has none of them. I was not expecting high quality pics with this phone (since it is a phone) but the ones I have taken look great.

I have a Jabra Blutooth headset (works great), the speakerphone is fine (unless driving at 80mph...too much road noise) and a transflash card. The card is great for putting on some extra pics and taking them off instead of pix messaging them.

Good luck to all who buy this phone.......mine is great!! Oh yea, and the battery life has been much better than any phone I've ever had...I talk for about 3hrs a day, take about 3-4 pics, use vcast and mobile web for about 15 minutes and I still have time left over in a day!

I didn't give it a 5 due to the styling....could have been a bit better!

It's ok...

Pros
• Great reception
• Nice shell design
• (at least some) Bluetooth
• Syncs nicely with Mac

Cons
• Extremely buggy Phonebook
• Cannot simply change speed dial entries
• Phone changes volume when plugging in charger (vibrate -> loud)
• Requires many keystrokes/menus to perform simple tasks

So far the phone has been reasonable, but there are definitely some short comings to Motorola's software. As another user previously mentioned there are several bugs with the Phonebook beyond it's poor design. The fact that you cannot simply change an entry's speed dial slot is unacceptable. When changing a speed dial entry, if the slot is already full it will force you to delete the current entry! Also, I have noticed that the phone switches to the loud ringer when you plug in the charger while it's set to vibrate.

Forgive my negativity but I'm coming from an LG phone that "just worked". It's just been a frustrating transition so far as the Motorola software requires many more unnecessary keystrokes to accomplish the same tasks.

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to live with it, after all I did get it for free...

BYE BYE MOTOROLA E815 - HELLO LG 8100

Jul 14, 2005 by CruiseGuy

I have had the Motorola e815 for 1.5 weeks now and I have to comment about the following;

Pros:

Nice size Phone.
Very Good reception.
Decent Bluetooth connectivity.
Like that you can have the phone closed and still talk.
Battery Life is good.
VCast nice feature but don't see myself paying VZW $15/month for this.

Cons:

You Absolutely CANNOT feel the VIbRaTioN mode. For me that is very important, I missed an important call when in a meeting, I spend most of my time at work in meetings.
BIG TURN OFF FOR ME. I have tried diferent places- belt buckle, pant pocket, shirt pocket and NADA !!
When using the bluetooth headset the sound comes very, very low (after complete adjustment).
The voice dial recognition is terrible.
Experienced echoing from both sides when using speakerphone.

Overall, the vibrate feature and volume in a call are important to me. I am returning the phone tommorow and trying the new
LG VX8100. I had the LG VX6100 and it's a GREAT phone.
Thank you Verizon for the 15 day phone equipment trial period.

Great phone, but returned it twice already

Not eligible for the NE2 yet so I decided to buy at the full price, from Best Buy since they give a 2 year warranty. I had the phone for 20 minutes and was impressed, but it had 3 DEAD PIXELS! Took it back and exchanged it, and the next one had 2 dead pixels! I've had 5 laptops and no dead pixels on any! Best Buy said its the first shipment they got, so that's the reason for the defects? I'm going back tomorrow to try again...very odd problem.

Pros:

Best call quality and signal strength I've experienced, great speaker phone, good volume all around, beautiful internal screen.

Cons:

Dead pixels- hopefully just a freak batch of phones! Also the vibrate option is weak but not a deal killer.

Only had for a few daysbut pretty good phone

Jul 13, 2005 by PlayboyPenguin

I only had the e815 for a couple days before trading it for the new VX8100 but I found it to be an acceptible phone.

PROS:

huge internal screen

speakerphone can be used while phone is closed

overall nice appearance

very nice keypad design

good reception and sound quality

great menu and interface graphics

CONS:

Build quality (a little flimsy feeling)

external screen low quality

speaker on back of phone (lowers quality of sound)

size (was huge when open)

not a fan of rubber extendable antenna

As far as comparing it to the V710 it is leaps and bounds above in quality. My old V710's buttons fell off and the body fell apart after just a few days. If you were happy with the 710 you will love the 815. If you want something a little smaller and sturdier go for the VX8100
