WARNING: DO NOT BUY THIS CELL PHONE!!!

Jan 8, 2006 by scapaflow36

One year ago I needed to purchase a cell phone and service plan. I researched several different carriers by asking peoples' opinions and reading articles (i.e. Consumer Reports, on-line articles, etc.). Overall T-Moblie was rated second or third for quality of service in my area (NW Columbus, Ohio), behind Verizon Wireless and/or Sprint. I chose T-Mobile based upon price of plan verses number of minutes (1000 anytime, unlimited night and weekend for $45.99). The sales representative suggested the Samsung SGH e315. I unfortunately went with her recommendation.
PROS:
-small in size
-user friendly
-can personalize phone in several ways
-many features: camera/camcorder, calculator, calender, alarm, good color screen, supports JAVA, Internet capable, AIM, external picture caller I.D.
-phone is dual band (1900, 900 MHz) and can be used in Europe as well as the United States

CONS:
-terrible reception
-many dropped calls and "cut outs" even with full bars
-poor sound quality
-battery life is fine, but if it is not fully charged the reception and sound quality decrease, and the dropped calls increase
-sometimes it has to be turned off and turned back on again to get better reception (this is what t-mobile tech support told me)
-camera/camcorder produces poor quality shots and movies, and the quality of sound of the voice recorder is a joke
-ringers are terrible (no normal ring. most normal is the t-mobile sound bite)
-can not vibrate and ring at same time, or silence incoming calls while keeping the phone on (choices are vibrate, vibrate then ring, ring, or off)
-ringers and vibrate are weak
-can not assign ringers to people
-no speaker phone
-no way to disable the external camera side key or the noise it makes (even if phone is on silent), resulting in phone taking many pictures in one's pocket
-no voice activated dialing
-low memory

IN CONC: T-Mobile and Samsung may score with other people, but they sure dropped the ball in my court.

Good First Phone, Bad Fifth

Jul 19, 2005 by glamorganshire_a

Actually my bro who got plagued by this one---there are good products and bad products. His first e315 held out for about 3 months and functioned normally...

---camera has excellent zoom and clear pictures.

---cosmetically, phone is clean-cut, neat angles.

The original model started freezing up on the web and calling people by itself randomly out of the phonebook.

2nd and 3rd replacements were DOA.

4th phone seemed to have recovered, worked as it should've for first month, the one day someone called the phone and it wouldn't quit vibrating until we pulled the battery.

5th phone is on it's way.

If you're not a heavy cell phone user---i.e.--just like to make a couple calls a day, snap a couple pictures a month, and get on the web about twice a year, this is a good phone for light use.

Amazing Cell phone

Samsung SGH E315 has cool features, a stylish body and a hyper-elegant silver casing. The vibrant colors offer a high resolution view and the external disco lights are hip. The sound clarity is too good and the battery life is excellent. Unlike other users, I never had any trouble with the battery at all. In fact, the battery was perfectly fine even after I saved a couple of videos. The other very impressive cell phone in this series is SGH E330.

The navigation menu is easy to understand and the polyphonice sound is majestic. This phone is truly different from the rest in being a light weight champion (just 85 g).

Enjoying my cell phone,
Samsung User.

It's an OK phone.

I'm making this review for my boyfriend, who has owned this phone since December of 2004.

He uses it in Houston, Sugar Land, and Austin (all in Texas). Service is from TMobile.

Pros:
-External picture ID
-Good battery life (he usually goes about three days without charging it)
-The size is itty bitty, but the number pad is adequate, even for big fingered people.
-Pressing the "#" key to make it go to vibrate mode is way convienent.
-If you're in a quiet area, sound quality on the earpiece is great.
-Signal is great. I've noticed that when calls drop, it's usually b/c of the person on the other end (his mom uses a motorola from Cingular and his calls to her often drop or cut out). Whenever he talks to me (another TMobile user), I hear him just fine.
-You can take pics of yourself (or anyone) with the phone closed and using the external display to see what you're capturing.

Cons:
-Camera quality is not so good, especially compared to Motorola phones. Whenever you take a pic and try to set it as your background, it's stretched and distorted looking. He sticks to the backgrounds that were installed on the phone. Those are better and more crisp.
-I don't know if it's cuz he uses a ringtone downloaded to the phone from USB or what, but whenever the phone is in his pocket and he's driving, it's impossible to hear.
-Sometimes the earpiece sounds quite muffled. I'm real big on earpiece quality, and the E315 wouldn't cut it if it were my phone.
-The side keys are utter crap! You'd think the up and down buttons were for the ringtone volume, but they're for the keypad volume. What the **** is that??
-When sending txt msgs & want to save what you're sending, you have to go to the options menu and say "save and send" b/c it doesn't do it automatically.
-When closed, external display turns to black and you have to press and hold the upper or lower side key for it to show up (say if you're checking the time).

Would've received higher, but earpiece quality really irks me.

Pretty Neat Phone

Apr 26, 2005 by bettyjordi

this is a neat phone. i've had this phone ever since it came out, and that's been a while back. i upgraded from a Motorola v300 because of reception issues. this phone hasn't given me any problems.

pros:

+ great reception

+ petite. it fits anywhere

+ the outer screen is pretty awesome. especially when you have photo wars with friends, also good for self portraits.

cons:

+ memory issues. if you have too many games, wallpapers, ringtones, etc., your menu starts to get slow. (this is solutionable, just delete the unwanted things, and it should work fine)

+ wont ring and vibrate at the same time. it does however have the vibra-alert but first it vibrates and then it rings, so if you'd like that then hey cool!

+ so far i haven't found any themes for this phone. and that blue bar gets pretty annoying after a while. the only thing you can change is the text color, but hey i guess that's better than nothing, right? =P

anyway, i recommend this phone to anyone. i know i probably said some things that have been said before, but reading about them twice wouldn't hurt.

Good Phone

Feb 6, 2005 by DodgeBallChamp

This is a good phone. When first looking at it it caught my eye. It looks awesome and is lightweight and compact. The only thing i didn't like was that there was no speakerphone. Lots of features that are fun to play around with. Another con is that there is no ringing option so that the phone vibrates and rings at the same time. It vibrates twice then rings without vibrating. If you cant hear it in those few rings you'll miss the call (happened to me a few times) but eitherway it is a good phone that i would recommend

Pretty Spiffy

This is one of my all time favorite phones. The screen is nice and bright, I really like the blue backlighting on the keys. Being able to use a picture for my wallpaper is fun.

It's only missing two things that I wish it had. It's not data capable so you can't use it as a stand in for a regular phone line and get internet service and it's not a GPS tracker. Neither are big issues however, just means I'm gonna have to get me a wireless airecard for my computer.

Overall it's lots of fun, I love using the hands-free headset that came with my phone.

Great little phone

Jan 5, 2005 by Doony

I got this phone for free through my employer, although it would be well worth it had I paid the $200. I really like the camera feature, it's not all that clear, but if you are looking for quality invest in a digital camera.

PROS:
Outer screen quality
Compact size
Light Weight
Mulitple camera options
Large phonebook capacity
Hands-free can start/end calls

CONS:
Unpredictable reception in SLC, UT
Lousy ringtones
Low battery life

All in all it's a great phone, the best looking phone available in my opinion.
