Long time Nokia user not at all impressed!!!

Jun 15, 2006 by jim_255

Having had zero trouble with any Nokia phone I figured we would get two of these puppies, back in September of 2005. Now the Mrs is on her second replacement and I'm on my fourth replacement. Something keeps failing in the phone causing it to go into continuous reset mode, where it will work fine for about 5 minutes then shut down and power itself back up. This fourth replacement has lasted the longest though since around February.

Not a happy customer right now...

Nokia Flop

Although I am a Nokia fan, this phone gets a thumbs down.

On the positive side;
- like most Nokia's you can use your old chargers, headset, etc.
- The menu system is familiar Nokia
- The battery has reasonable talk time although will not last the entire day with heavy use.
- Contacts and limited calendar and tasks sync easily with Outlook.
- Big buttons on the key pad
- camera takes a reasonable picture for a phone.

Cons;
- The phone is bulky; will not fit comfortably in your pocket.
- Reception, usually a Nokia strong point is noticeably weaker on this phone.
- The biggest problem with this phone is its casing. It is plastic, feels that way, creaks and cracks when you talk on it, scratches extremely easy and does not hold up. Even the hinge is plastic and developed cracks after just three weeks use.

This Nokia flip is a flop.

Awesome Phone

I understand that this phone isn't brand new to the market. I recently purchased mine around maybe two weeks ago. I really enjoy this phone. I am able to use mp3's as ringtones or message tones. Seeing that the songs are too long for practical use, I cut the song how I would like it. When I set the song to my preference, I change it back to an mp3 file. The unit that I purchased isn't tagged with any brands like "Verizon" or "Alltel". I have wanted this phone since it came out in my area.

I have no problems with this phone. And I use everything on it : still-shot, video, wap browser, brew, mms, sms, etc...

I guess I'm just not satisfied with the camera. It's really clear for the phone. But I saw the RAZR V3C (1.3MP) before this phone.

Everyone compares this phone to the RAZR. It actually has everything the RAZR V3C has plus two more features : Infared and Expanded Memory(MMC).

I think this phone is great. Mixed with the right carrier that has the best coverage and supports all features, it'll be perfect.

amazed..

i have had this phone since christmas time and have yet to come across with any major problems.

pros:
-> inside screen
-> camera quality (considering its a vga)
-> bright flash for a phone
-> speaker loudness
-> 3 minute video
-> signal
-> mp3 player
-> radio
-> not verizon UI
-> untouched bluetooth
-> translator

cons:
-> cant use mp3 as ringtone, but can use it for message tone
-> thick
-> not the best looking phone
-> battery cover keeps falling off
-> occasional dropped call

all in all i was surprised at how much this phone had brought. and also surprised that verizon let this function packed phone through without taking somethings away. i have to agree with other people when they say that they get a without a missed call. has happened to me some many times like 5 ish.

and for you people that cant figure out how to put a single contact to a specific ring tone.

Step 1: go to the contact you want
Step 2: click details.
Step 3: click options (the top left button)
Step 4: scroll down til you get to custom tone, it should be the 11th one down.
Step 5: click select and it should show you your options
Step 6: choose desired ring tone.
Step 7: click select.

and viola you have a custom tone to ONE contact. see now was it that hard?

It's a keeper

I am completely satisfied with the phone. I am not thrilled with US Cellular's decision to neuter it, so that you can't put in your own MP3's for use as ringtones -and their not mentioning that fact. Not the phone's fault, though...

I have been very happy with:
Battery life
Reception (more bars/better reception than previous Kyocera/LG/Moto/MotoRazr)
Camera image quality (considering it IS a phone, not a 6mp camera!)
Construction quality
Screens
Volume
Feature set

The only "downsides" are the previously-mentioned US Cellular neutering, and the size of the "enter" button. Then again, I wear a size 13 ring, so my li'l fingers are a little larger than most. Even with that, I don't have many problems with it, just occasional.

I picked up three of these - one for me, one for she, and one for the young teen - and everyone has been VERY happy with them!

Alltel Nokia 6255i is awesome!!!!!

pros: everything

cons: I let my Mother use it and it got stolen. However, I went back to Alltel and did not have it, it had been "discontinued" I am VERY disappointed.

good phone...just not for me

I have the Nokia 6255i and service from alltel (who I love).

I feel the phone delivers what it promises. Good reception, loaded with features, good camera (for a phone), blue tooth synced well with my computer and Nokia's software was easy to use.

That being said: I gave it to my son and got the LG AX-5000.

I paid full retail for the 6255i and once the "new car smell" wore off, I realised that the phone was too heavy.

There are many features that while cool...I just don't use them, and my son will.

The Pros:

Loaded with features all of which have been explored here, so I will just list my favorites. Camera, reception, and internal display looks great, and the speaker is very good.

The Cons:

Many features I thought I wanted but don't (my fault not the phone)

External display is hard to see at a glance (have to light it up)

BULKY, BULKY, BULKY(didn't think it would bother me but it does)

The model from my Alltel was white (I liked the blue I always see on line)

I don't care for the Nokia UI (personal opinion...again my fault not the phone...I knew what the Nokia UI was like)

This is a great phone! I feel it does all that it promised it would do and would recommend it to anyone that doesn't mind the size. For me the afore mentioned LG is a better fit.

This Nokia is a good phone it just didn't fit my personal style. If i weren't such a phone freak, I would have learned to adjust, but alas I have a problem.

Great Phone

This phone is awesome.. the sound is perfect, when I speak to friends and family they never even think I am on a cell-phone, that's how clear it is. My cell-phone company is Metro PCS and it's so great.. maybe thats one of the reasons my phone sounds so great too. The camera takes awesome pictures almost like a regular camera... the front screen is good and clear and the main screen is huge! The ringtones are good and I can download music ringtones which are very nice... I haven't tried the radio yet since you need headphones to use it but thats pretty neat to be able to play that too as well as mp3. The only con from this phone is that its a little thick... if it were thinner I would have gave this phone a rating of 5.0.

eh.. im not happy anymore

ok so i have had this phone since Christmas. at first i was really happy with it. i mean who wouldn't want a trimode, bluetooth, flip, camera, from nokia??? but the past few days it has been makin me mad. i knew about the ringtone issue. i fixed it with some hunting around the forum. but the other day i bought a tone via gin and i cant assign that to someone with out it being on a group, vip, family, friends and so on. also the volume will not stay on high wen using bt. every time i answer the phone via bt the volume its at the halfway point.. i mean the phone has its pros,
speaker phone with the flip closed,
good camera,
great reception,
unrestricted bt,
actual voice for voice dial,
ease of storing new words in text messaging. then there are cons,
no pic id,
the ringer problem,
the volume issue,
the phone disconnects from the headset for no reason..

so this phone is going up on ebay i just need to find a replacement first... take care

Great buy!

To be a little different I'm going to rate the phones features individually.

Form factor: 3.5 Great phone,easy to use
Tons of usable features
Style factor: 3.5 and good sound quality
combine to make on of
Qulaity: 4.5 the best Nokia phones
that I have ever owned.
Sound quality: 4.0 The only thing that I'm
upset with is the fact
Ease of use: 4.5 that Nokia is still
using MMC cards in this
Features: 5.0 generation of phones. I
was hoping for a SD or
Battery life: 3.5 even a Micro SD card.
This phone will be
RF reception: 4.5 great for the moderate
user that wants a ton
Overall: 4.1 value in their phone.

Nokia hit a grand slam with this one.
