very good phone

Dec 6, 2005 by rgsproductions2005

I received this phone as a replacement for my nokia 6230. The phone has great reception on cinglar, il. Excellent sound quality and nice large screen. Camera is decent but if you want great photos , get a real camera. Speaker phone is decent. Overall, phone is closest to my perfect dream phone.

Pros
Sound quality, reception, screen, memory, and pc sync tools and programs.

Cons

Cheep feeling rear cover, buttons small for big handed people. Sync software hard at first but overall very useful and fast.

The Best!!!

I may be a bit biased due to my loyalty to Siemens phones, but this is definatly the best phone I've ever owned. Other phones I've had, Sony Ericsson T637, Siemens M56, Siemens SL56, Siemens C61, Siemens A65, Siemens C45. My T637 by Sony was terrible. I've loved every Siemens phone I've had. They get the best reception I've ever seen (I always have service in places my friends don't) and the phones just seem to have a personality.

The S66 is such a classy phone. It looks great and is a real head turner. I've had people say "Wow, that's actually a phone?". Such great features. Great Camara (1.3 M), cool games, awesome ringtones, and much more.

Siemens phones are the only phones that have a menu system similar to windows or whatever. You can view all the files on your phone and delete whichever ones you want, or view how much memory they take up, etc... I really like the removable memory card too. It makes file transfer a sinch if you don't have bluetooth on your computer.

Overall, an A+......definatly buy it, or definatly feel good about it if you already own it!

meh...

I wouldn't recommend this phone to anyone. Period. I received this phone as an "upgrade", a term I'm using loosely, and promptly sent it back. It was supposed to be an upgrade for my Sony Ericsson T637 (which BTW I highly recommend) but all I got was a gimmick phone.

If you want a 1.3MP camera, then buy one. If you're buying a phone for video, this is not the one to buy. I haven't had any other video phones, but if this is the standard video performance, then it's a waste of time. But the phone wasn't all bad, it had it's moments...

PROS: Excellent reception and call quality. Blue tooth enabled.

CONS: Feels cheaply made. Very plastic-y. The menus are absurdly confusing and redundant - there are about 5 ways of reaching the same area of the phone. The buttons have a weird feel and are somewhat difficult to press. Even the side buttons feel cheap and plastic-y.

My first 3 phones were Nokias, which are pretty much idiot-proof. I then graduated up to the SE line which is a black-and-white difference. But I was very disappointed with Siemens on this one. The Germans let me down.

Pretty but average

So I have lived with this phone for a couple of months now and, though I don't hate it, I do have a few gripes. On the up side, the phone has a nice design eschewing large buttons for an over sized and fairly bright screen. The heft is adequate although the rear panel just above the battery compartment exhibits a bit of play that is bothersome. The styling is sleek and fits the inside pocket of my scrub suit nicely. The phone comes with a 32 Mb RS memory card that I replaced with a 256 Mb card so memory is not an issue. Reception in my area is superb and the battery life average.
Now the bad: The ringers are horrible! Really, some of the worst I've ever heard. And to compound the problem, the phone "fades in" the firs 2 or 3 seconds of each ring which is, to me at least, very annoying. The phone does not support MP3 ringtones which should not be a problem given the enormous amount of potential memory. However, custom WAV ringtones must be encoded at 8 bit and less than 12,000 Hz for my phone to recognize them...and they sound horrible. To boot, I also have to include a few seconds of silence at the front end of the WAV to circumvent the annoying fade in effect.
Another huge gripe with the phone is the Mobile Phone Manager software that SHOULD allow me access to my phone via the DCA-510 Data Cable I purchased. No matter what I try, I cannot get the MPM to work with XP/SP2..even after a re-format and clean install. Perhaps a firmware upgrade will resolve the issue but the MPM works fine on my laptop (SP1)
Given the issues I have had with this phone, I would not recommend it and will be purchasing a replacement as soon as is feasible.

S66 Review From a Mac User

Jun 15, 2005 by Pixellex

I wish I could be critical of this phone, but it definitely lives up to its hype.

I bought the phone after a little research to see if it would work with Apple's iSync. With a simple tweak and workaround with iSync, it will transfer both Address Book Contacts and Calendar info.

What's even better is that for those who want to customize their S66 via Bluetooth, there is a free program available called Nokia Collector, that can connect to the S66 and transfer files in either direction, to the PC or the phone. With this addition, you can also transfer pictures associated with your Address Book and add them individually to your contacts on the phone.

This is a great buy and a terrific phone.

Solid performer

I was not sure if this was the phone for me when I ordered, but it turned out to be the best phone I have ever used. With it's professional looks and solid performance, I'm not even looking for another phone until they upgrade this model.

That being said, the first downside for me has been the speaker-phone volume. The audio quality of the speaker-phone is good, but it's better suited for quiet environments. The other downside is the UI. I'm a network engineer and I carry the manual with me!

With the con's out of the way, let me get to the good stuff.

Talking: This is the most comfortable phone to talk on that I've ever used. I don't know if it is the fine mesh diffuser over the speaker, or just the good audio quality, but I find myself forgetting about the phone and focusing on the conversation.

Physical size: Just right. Not big enough to be bulky or inconvienient, not so small that it's difficult to hold comfortably, not so thin that it's hard to position.

Reception on Cingular network: Have not dropped a call, ever. I'm sure that day will come eventually, but it has not happened yet.

Data services: At last, a phone that can actually handle an unlimited data plan. All my former phones crashed or had limitations.

Battery life: Good if used as a phone, adequate of using phone + data + bluetooth. Heavy users will need an auto/air charger, or an extra battery.

Storage: 10MB memory, up to 1GB expansion. 'Nuff said.

Conclusion: Most of my phones have been good at data, or good at voice. This one excels at both, in one package.

Dec 23, 2004 by camelontherun

the phone is great. the joystick is a lil weird to tap head on, but you can use the 2 buttons up top to select. It has a HUGE BEAUTIFUL screen, AIM and ICQ clients built in, and a sweet camera. the quality is nice. the video on the other hand is blurry.

minor complaints:
cant save video to memory card, stuck with a 30 second limit

joystick doesnt like to be used as a selector

flash would be nice...

just on a side note, the bluetooth isnt connecting to my motorova HS810. ive emailed for help.

RINGTONES
A mi entender lo peor del teléfono. No posee MP3. Solo acepta WAP (de muy baja calidad, solo soporta WAP IMA ADPCM 8 KHz 4 bit mono. 3 Kb/s.
GPRS Y MMS, fáciles de configurar (siemens on line).
