cute little phone

Mar 18, 2005 by shybipo

my girlfriend has this phone and its really fun to play with. Much better than my moto c350, but what isn't? It took me a while to learn to navigate the menu but once i did i've had a blast playing with it.

The only major con I can find is I always sign onto AIM by accident because it does it automatically with one button push. Which is great for rabid aim users, but i find aim on phones annoying.

Good for some

I've had this phone for a week or so, still on the 30-day trial period w/ Cingular. I happen to think that the phone is everything one should expect:

PROS-
Solid, I think "tank" would be the best word
Excellent reception, it has been at full bars forever
For its price range, it has better memory for pictures/video than most
Good screen resolution, menu is very navigable
Based on overall design (process speed of firmware, and actual parts) it feels as though it would last one a good while

CONS-
Poor camera resolution, you should consider the camera a "novelty" feature for this phone
While you can download any sort of ringtone and game app, ones included are poor
Weak battery life if one uses camera/media apps
Stuck with USB cables as it lacks BT and Infrared (why!?)

Overall: For the price, it's very fair (I paid about $40). It's larger than "small" flip-phones: closed it's near the same volume as a little Nokia 6200, once open it wraps around your face (good/bad?). I have no major complaints, the only reason I would return this device is if I were bent on getting a better camera.

Great Reception & a lot of fun

The only knock against this highly versatile phone is the absence of bluetooth technology. Even without it, this phone is one of the best we carry at our store & may have the best reception quality out of any we carry. My wife currently uses this model and couldn't be happier. The ability to manipulate pictures makes taking pictures fun. Unless you are interested in a Motorola V551 or the Nokia 6620, I could not recommend a better phone that we carry in our store.

VERY UNHAPPY!!!

First of all i have always had NOkia phones, i always wanted a flip phone though, so i first tried a Motorolla v220 and my daughter got one as well because i switched to a family plan through att/cingular, well the motorolla was HORRIBLE it cut out and hung up on people constantly, i exchanged it for THIS sony ericsson v500a since i will never use a motorolla again, i also read alot of good things about this phone. Welll when i got it, first of all its UGLY and big as heck. i figured id get used to it though, if it worked as good as people say it does. first thing i tried , going online to get into my aol email since i always used my nokias to do that, NOPE, DOESNT WORK..wont open aol home page, first bad sign. then i used it a few times and it didnt seem so bad my callers said i seemed clearer and they couldnt hear background noise as my other phones did. BUT then after a day, it started hagning up cutting out, etc..SAME problems as the motorolla. i use my phone aLOT for text messaging this phone is HORRIBLE to text on, its very hard to type in ANYTHING.. buttons are flat and its too big to do it with one hand as i could with my other cell phones..
and last BAD thing about this phone it lets you take video recordings WITH SOUND i thought that sounded really cool, UNTIL i sent them and NOBODY I SEND them to can open and view them!!! i have tried sending to email as well as other cell phones, and it doesnt work. i dont know what the point of having this video record on it is if u cant send it to anyone. all i know is i cannot wait to get a new phone i am just praying they refund my money for this piece of garbage. never going with sony OR motorolla again..going to try LG next if that doesnt work, back to nokia i go.

Well ....

The outside screen gets dirty very quickly.
May have been a design flaw.
