Never again

Jan 21, 2006 by smhennes

After owning this phone for a few months, yes the features are kinda nice, but after the fun of using the Bluetooth wore off, I really got to see the real performance of this phone. I hated it. It seemed that I was always waiting on the phone to display what I was pressing. The phone is slow to navigate and getting use to the menus takes some time to do. Overall not to bad of a phone, but the sound quality was not the best and I received many complaints about loud background even when there was very little. Back to Nokia and Motorola for me.

I Love This Phone

This is, hands down, the best phone I've ever owned. Unfortunately, it no longer receives charge so Cingular is sending me the SE z520a (which is rated rather well).

To be honest, I can't think of anything wrong with this phone other than the fact that it doesn't work anymore.

PROS: Excellent call quality and reception. Menus are easy to navigate. Ringer is decently loud and vibrate takes up the slack when you can't hear it. Screen is bright and easy to read. Joystick has a good feel to it, never crapped out on me in the 2+ years I had it. Bluetooth is easy to use. I would HIGHLY recommend getting a Bluetooth dongle for your USB port - great for sending pictures and midi files to and fro. Buttons are small but they're elevated so they're easy to use. If you kick the joystick over to the left it brings up a blank text message screen (great if you send a lot like I do). I think that about covers it.

OK, the camera - I'm tired of people giving good phones bad ratings because the camera is "sub-par" or "the pictures look grainy"... or whatever. If you want a camera, BUY A CAMERA. This is a telephone. Cameras on phones, in my opinion, are for taking pictures of your buddy passed out with marker all over his face, or taking pictures of your dog when you're bored. Yea, the camera on this phone isn't that great, it's not even a VGA, but in good lighting they're usable (for the picture ID I forgot to mention.

Buy this phone (and no I don't work for Sony)

Awesome Reception

I live in baton rouge, we have numerous towers out and everyone is using my phone! Why? because I am the only one who has reception!

Pro's
Reception, Reception, Reception
All the extra features

Con
Camera could be better...

GREAT PHONE BUT COULD USE MORE FEATURES

first off, i would like to respond to all the complaints given about the camera. IT IS A CAMERA PHONE, not your average 5 MP DIGITAL camera. Do you really expect the quality to be PERFECT?!?

Anyways, i just got this phone today (EBAY) and am IMPRESSED so far. But the phone could have included more features to compete with my previous MOTO v551.

MP3 PLAYER
VIDEO CAMERA

But i like the themes. I HAVE A LOT IF YOU WANT SOME (windows xp is my fav)

email me for them: akluther@gmail.com

otherwise some:

PROS:

bluetooth
photo caller id
joystick

CONS:

battery life
mMode CRAP all over the menu and home screen

Sony Ericsson T637 is Cool

Best phone ever!

I went through a lot of phones with Cingular from Nokia to Samsung and finally I got t637 recently and I loved it to every detail, definitely the best mobile phone I've ever owned (BTW, I'm talking about PHONE - I found a lot of people confused phone with PDA, camera, mp3 player or other gadgets).

I used t637 as a PHONE - to call and to be called, so I don't rate it based on nice-to-have fancy add-on functions like camera or web browser (no phone no matter how expensive can beats the cheapest digital camera, camcorder, PDA for those functions, so what bother rate a phone based on those things?). As a phone, t637 excels in every perspectives - slick and stylish design, easy to hold and light to carry, not too small for a 6-foot guy, not too big to put in a pocket, large clear colorful screen, easy to push buttons even for fat fingers (because of the smartly shaped plastic key cover), blue-tooth, loud and clear signal from Cingular, fast and intuitive menu interface, easy to operate.

I have to mention the Sony Ericsson unique phonecard calling function - you can setup the access number and authentication code for any phonecard in t637 so that a "call using phone card" option is available for any numbers in your phonebook - a super convenient and cheap way to make international calls. I used phone card calling a lot so I found this function very cool - you don't have to remember anything, with push of 2 buttons (one to select a number to call from phonebook, one to send the stored authentication code) you are calling using your phonecard. How come only Sony Ericsson thought of this smart feature?

I can't find any cons of t637 so far. I found the complaint of noisy background ridiculous - maybe you should find a quieter place to make your call instead of complaining the super performance mic on t637. I don't have any battery issue either. And again, I found the complaints of camera or browser functions irrelevant to a mobile PHONE - get a digital camera instead.

Very Noisy...

Jul 16, 2005 by Sukilalala

I live in NYC, and I make 90% of my phone calls on the street. I had owned other phones before (Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, etc), but I have never had so many people complain how noisy my background is. Granted, it is NYC, and it's pretty noisy 24/7. However, this phone seems to have no noise-reduction capability - if anything, it seems amplifying!!!!

I'm now shopping a new phone after a year of apologizing my customers (I'm in sales) and friends. Hope to find a less noisy phone.

Love My T637

Jul 7, 2005 by pebblesbeach

I used this site to decide what phone I was going to get at the end of my contract. After much thought I decided on the Sony Ericson T637. I love this phone.
First the pro.s:
It is all pro...
I changed my Faceplate, Buttons and Battery. It was a little scary because you have to use special tools and screwdrivers but it was worth it. With all the flashy lights it uses up the battery something awful but I have the original battery so I keep the it charged for emergencies and I have not had a problem.
The only thing is, I would not have went through all the trouble to use the flashy buttons if I knew it would affect my reception. Now there is this high pitched buzzing when I answer my phone. But the people on the other side can't hear it and it was 20.00 so I'll probably keep it for a while before going through the trouble to take it off.
I get great signal strength and it has some cool features and rightones.

The few cons:
I don't like that I can't buy a ringtone through the phone. I can browse but I have to use the computer to actually buy them and send to the phone.
Also if you want to e-mail any pic.s you take with your phone they are horrible!! They look o.k. on your phone for a background or to show ur friends but they are no good for the computer.
When it goes into "Sleep" mode you can't see if someone called you.

That's it over all I love this phone and am very happy with the choice. :)

Disappointed...

Jun 14, 2005 by Nieceygee

I work in the cellular industry and my boss just gave me a 637 and the blue tooth headset to start using. I was hesitant because I have always been a Nokia user. I have to admit I don't really like my experience thus far....

Pros:
-it's GSM!!!
-the standard ringtones are much better than in other phones I have used.
-it is small and compact in size
-it is loud as far as reception and ringing.

Cons:
-that dumb joystick thingy is very annoying because you will be scrolling and it will call someone.
-the butttons are slick so if you have nails you will have problems dialing.
-the camera reception is terrible!! the pictures always come out grainy no matter what I do to adjust it.
-the menu is more complex than in other phones. I guess I am used to having a "go to" menu so I can put my favorites areas in.

I am still deciding if I am going to dig out my Nokia 3220 or not!!! So far....I haven't been that impressed.
