MPX220 Review

Oct 19, 2004 by ryan98034

This phone does it all. I love it.

The only bad thing is people on the other end of the call can't hear me very well. (mic is on the bottom of the phone?). Also, I can't turn up the volume any more so i can hear better. I have it up all the way. I just may have not adjusted with settings yet.

But i love the phone so far. I would have paid 700 for it. Some people complained about always accidentally hitting the volume thing on the side. I do it too, but that doesn't deter me from liking the phone. It has what i want and I have had very good connection with cingular so far (seattle area).

Nothing But Trouble!

If you are a Mac user, don't bother with this phone. I went in to get this phone exchanged though Cingular, and they told me they don't even sell this phone anymore. They went on to say that they have had a lot of returns on this phone. Problems with this phone had nothing to do with computer OS, problems were:
- Inaudible speakerphone
- Setting up email is difficult to say the least
- Close to impossible to open with one hand to answer
- Charger has poor engineering (loose fit into phone)
- Too many levels within settings to customize phone
- Slow performance
- Quiet ringtone
+ Plastic finish resists scratches (and I had to think hard about this one!

it is

it is out, just for cingular in limited markets, and you can buy it online if you want to fork out 800+

crappy phone

I'm very sorry that i purchased this phone. i thought it would be good because i can access the internet, and have many more options plus be able to use my bluetooth. however ive owned this phone for three months and i cant even download,my calls wont come in sometimes, and at times my phone tends to lock up and freeze. because cingular dosent offer lockline on the phones that they sell, the customers get screwed. I'm very disappointed!

Great Phone, Solutions to some problems

Many People said that this phone is not loud enough and you can barely hear it. All you have to do is go to profiles and switch it to outdoor and your phone will be much louder(inclueding the speakerphone). Also, if you think the camera is unclear, just brighten it and add a flash. Nice phone, im very happy with its features and looks. See ya

Motorola MPx220 Smartphone

Let's start off by saying I purchased this phone through the National Employee Account Services from AT&T Wireless. I am using firmware .343, and honestly, all the problems I have read about with the Cingular firmware have yet to be discovered by me!

PROs:
- Very nice, clear and easy to read 65,000 color screen
- Nice touch MOTO with the color external caller ID.
- MP3 Ringtones sound AMAZING! Volume level is clear and all sounds are recreated well.
- Reception is phenomenal! I was worried that upgrading to this phone from a Nokia 6620 would be a downgrade in reception (because of previous MOTO problems), but WAS I WRONG OR WAS I?
- Camera is acceptable. It is a bit grainy, but I cannot complain - I have owned the V600 and it was much worse. Just don't buy this if you are expecting a stand alone digital camera - you aren't getting one, but overall, it works out well.
- ActiveSync!!! I can understand the hype with this; syncing with Outlook 2003 was a piece of cake! Didn't have to launch Outlook, just clicked synchronize and it was done! Way to go MOTO!
- Sleek designing: this was a well thought out design, and everyone that sees me on the phone asks "wow, where did you get that?"
- Ease of linking with bluetooth: perhaps it's because I'm using a Motorola HS820 bluetooth headset, but it connects easily, and the sound is awesome. No clicks, static or buzzing noises whatsoever.

CONs:
- Operating system lags OCCASIONALLY - never anything that bothers me too much. If you are playing a WMA/MP3 file in the background while you are working, the response time is cut down a little; sounds all too familiar for those of you with PCs that are at least a year old?
- Couldn't think of any others to list with this version.

Overall:
This version was an excellent job from MOTO. Obviously the original Cingular version was not. That was a rush job. If you have the close to $400.00 to spend, or if you need it to be productive at work, I recommend it.

Awesome Mpx 220

The only issue I have with the phone is the poor camera quality in indoor settings. compared to my V400 this phone's camera is lacking severely. Unlike others, I have had no problems with the microphone or volume--people on the other end can hear me VERY clearly--most chalk it up to earphone placement over the ear canal and mouth placement for the microphone. This has been one of the few phones that I can say I LOVE!! This one is a keeper!!

What a disappointment!!!

Maybe I could rate this phone a little more accurately if I had gotten it to work in the first place. Fresh out of the box-brand new everything worked--except for the phone part of it--it would only say no service. I was very disappointed b/c Motorola is famous for crystal-clear reception compared to other phones when using the same service. I have Cingular in TN and have never had a problem w/service before, even w/low-end phones. Also, the menus are very difficult to navigate. While the phone has many options, the OS is Windows (which is great in theory) so not only are there typical cell phone glitches to deal w/there are PC problems as well. I was attracted to this phone b/c of the expandible memory, camera, PC sync, MP3 capablities, etc.--but the primary function of a phone should still be to be a phone...so if that does not work who cares if it flies, or talks, or dances or whatever else???

Warning, DO NOT BUY!

I would not called this phone a "Smartphone". I would have to say, this is the worst motorola phone ever made.

Pros:

Sharp "expensive phone look"
Voice Recognition is awesome
Beautiful screen
Bluetooth

Cons: (Where should I start, lol)

Speaker phone is useless
Mp3 ringtones useless
Key response is very slow all around
Reception is not that great.

All I have to say is this phone is not that great. I wouldn't advise anybody to buy this phone unless you just need a toy.

Is the perfect Smart Phone/Carrier out there?

Bought Mpx220 fromCingular to replace Hitachi G1000 from sprint. I went from Big and Bad to small and worse.

Pros- Active sync with outlook.
-Screen quality when viewing inside.

Cons- Very poor reception compared to other
Cingular phones in same location.
-Will not allow me to answer about 4 out of 10 calls and sends them right to voice mail
-Camera is very poor
-Speaker phone is too quiet.
-Phone interferes with house phones, computer speakers with static
-too hard to get to voice dial
-voice dial will not work with blue tooth
