This Phone Is The Worst Phone Ever Invented!

Jul 9, 2005 by movethemthangs

I got this phone for Christmas. I thought it was a good phone until I started to take pictures. I didn't let that discourage me because I could still talk on it (As long as I ran outside to answer phone calls) and eventually I couldn't even talk on it. I couldn't hear anything through the phone. I had to use the speaker to talk. Once again, I thought this isn't that bad. Then my screen would turn blank. I'd have to open and close the phone over and over to get the picture to work. It was like playing the lottery. If I got lucky, then it would work. The straw that broke the camel's back was when the phone started to make funny noises. By February, I needed a new phone. I have another V220 and guess what? It still sucks.

supid phone

embarassed to own this phone... :S haha.
well not really, but it's not a great phone. as the "middle grade" phone between the v180 and the 551 it lacks almost everything. The phone looks nice, is light in weight, but not up to par with other entry level phones such as nokia 3120. there is no point to having a camera on this phone- as it doesn't work well anyways (just buy a digital camera!) and it has many wierd querks about it- misses random calls, voicemail notification comes on about 2 hours after the voicemail is left, buttons will stick at times, but not always, often says "call failed" in high signal areas where i always make calls. I work for a cell service provider and i do NOT recommend this phone. I also operate in the warrenty exchange dept, and we get TONS of these and LG phones returned. Get a MOTO v551 if you want one, or if you want entry level go for a nokia 3120, or samsung.

This phone sucks

I have had this phone for a day now and have had nothing but problems. Should have known after having it only 1 hour and had 2 dropped calls. In the time I've had it I've had 4 dropped calls. The screen went completely blank, like it was turned off then came on with an hour glass telling me to please wait.

Pro's- absolutely nothing

Con's- dropped calls
- bad reception
- horrible camera

I'm taking it back to Cingular and getting the Nokia 6230. I've used Nokia for the past 5 years and never had any problems. Believe what everyone else is saying about this phone. Do not get this phone

How many ways to describe "Junk"

Apr 9, 2005 by jdjone2

I started out really wanting to like this phone. My needs were simple, just a phone with good reception. I really didn't care about all the bells and whistles. I really wanted a V551 but they are a little expensive, so I decided to try this one for free. Big mistake. The reviews on this site are accurate when they say this phone sucks. I lost 3 calls the first day I used it, and one of the dropped calls resulted in me hard resetting the phone by removing the battery. Also the reception (most important phone attribute) is not as good as my previous Nokia 3390 or 3595. It dropped a call 200 yards from the local cell tower! I have listed Pros and Cons on the other attributes of this phone (IMHO) below. I have returned this to Cingular and purchased a Sony Ericsson Z500a that I couldn't be happier with, even though it cost me all of $50 after rebate.
Take my advice, avoid this phone and spend a couple of bucks and get something better, no matter what brand you prefer. The SE Z500a I got is the first phone I very paid for, but it was worth every dime. It has the same features as the V220, but they all work flawlessly. No dropped calls, great reception, etc. The phrase "You get what you pay for" was never truer than it is with the Moto V220, because even at "FREE" it isn't worth keeping. I would have gone back to my Nokia 3595 instead of keeping this piece of junk. Be warned, if you order this phone, all you are doing is setting yourself up to pay return shipping when you send it back.

Pros:
Small Size makes it easy to carry
"Free" from Cingular
Keyboard provides good responsiveness

Cons:
Crummy reception
Lousy call clarity and volume
Ringtones are too quiet and cannot be heard
Dropped calls
Phone reset's itself
Small Size (feels like a toy)
Cheap easily scratched plastic
Lousy screen (small and bad picture quality)
Camera quality is so-so
No inexpensive USB connectivity to PC
Difficult menu compared to Sony and Nokia

Horrible Phone

This phone was the worst phone that I have ever encountered. It feels like it could break at any moment. If you are going to have a camera on your phone, you should atleast have one that you can actually see the picture. This camera is very fuzzy. It says that it has picture id for when you recieve a call, yet it does not. I would not recommend this phone to anyone. I returned it after two days. I think it could be the worst phone motorola has ever put out.

Don't buy this phone

I got this phone when I was able to upgrade from a very old Siemens and as soon as I heard "camera phone" and "free" in the same sentence I got it without even bothering to do the research. I regret it very much and hope I can help someone else today. I've had five of these phones in the past three months and trust me, I'm not the type to drop my phones, they stay in my purse at all times so I know the phones were not messing up on behalf of any drops or damage done by myself. The first two phones had glitches with the screens, they would blink on and off and then power down. The third phone, after maybe a month, the camera, when I tried to take a picture, would go to a black screen then back to the home screen, rendering the camera aspect useless. The fourth phone out of the box the microphone wouldn't work, no one could hear me though I could hear them. Then the fifth phone after a week the screen died on me and until I got my new one I was left blindly dialing numbers. Finally cingular gave me a different model that I am very happy with. The moral of the story is that either I have severe bad luck or this phone is just cheaply made, it's real light and the hinges creak on the flip screen, it doesn't have nearly enough options for customizing, the camera is the worst quality that I have seen on a phone yet, and it's a son of a to find at the bottom of your purse.

mistake

Don't Do It

At first I thought this phone was awesome because it was small and had a camera. Don't let it's cool looks suck you into getting it! When you move the phone, something rattles inside.... not a good sign! When you open and close the phone the hinge goes crrrrrreeeeeeeak.... also not a good sign! And when you touch the phone..... you can hear the cheap plastic cover go sqqqqqqqquuuuueeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaak! Plus, the speaker is blurry and extremely low (this makes speakerphone, voice calls, and ringtones an absolute annoyance!) And the screen is sooooooo tiny! About half of a picture could fit on there.... and the resolution, camera or normal screen, it blurry and inadequate. The battery life and reception are acceptable, though not the best. Leave this phone alone, go for the Sony Ericsson Z500a.... same price (with Cingular) and much better features and performance!

Much flash, Little Substance

I am really disappointed with this phone. I will only make comments about the specific features I either like or dislike.

Pros:
MP3 ringtones, camera, etc. External display. USB port.

Cons:
No software! The USB port is useless as it comes. Pictures have to be emailed at 25c each (cingular price), when simply hooking up the USB cable should do the job. Motorola wants to SELL you the basic drivers for the phone. These should come with the phone. Unforgivable.

Uncomfortable. I have large hands, and I've noticed that holding this phone for more than just a few minutes cramps my hands.

Lack of decent contrast on the display. It's hard to tell what your pictures look like, and just generally a fuzzy display, even considering the resolution.

Noisy. My old Nokia 5160 got much better reception with the same provider in the same locations. It never cut out - this phone cuts out all the time.

Speaker position - it's on the bottom of the phone, so if you sit the phone against anything slightly soft, the rings get muffled.

Conclusion-
I haven't decided yet if I'm going to return this phone. I may very well do so - without software to connect it to my PC, it's useless for what I wanted. The salesperson who sold it to me assured me it would sync to a PC, and the very fact that it has a USB port implies this. Fix this ONE thing, and I would have given the phone a much better rating despite all the other Cons.

not pleased at all....

Pro's:
Inexpensive with 2 year contract
has a good amount of features for the $
comes with a VGA camera
decent battery life.....
Moto tech support was helpful, wish i didn't have to find that part out
umm.........hmmm , thats all i can think of

Con's:
-cheap is another word for inexpensive...that fits the bill here
-alot of dropped calls as compared to my new nokia 6230 which has been nearly flawless (cingular,
West Virginia panhandle)
-the camera was great...till it broke...not to mention you need a usb cable to transfer the pictures from the phone to your computer....no problem....i have one that fits from my digital camera that has the right connections, well you still need 30$ software from motorola to get them transferred...something that should be free....imho..just icing on the cake...
- periodically the phone would lock up and just reset?
- periodically it would lose signal when trying to make a call and require me to power cycle it off and on for it to remember there is a tower nearby?
- its quiet.....i had the volume up all the way and its still hard to hear compared to my new phone (nokia 6230), or my spint work phone..the call quality wasnt too bad, as long as it didnt drop a call....and dont try to actually use the speakerphone...
- the case feels cheap, and the flip action feels pretty squeaky and cheap as well, something i could live with if all the other stuff wasnt there ...
- my wife opted for a 10 dollar LG phone (with contract) and it consistently outperformed the moto (which i think i paid 60-70 dollars for ) as far as signal strength in any given area

Overall Impressions
I recieved the Moto V220 about 4 or 5 months ago and within a month had to exchange it for the speaker blowing in it, looking back i should of signed up for the insurance knowing what i know now, considering the camera stopped working, and the display totally cut out (i guess that way i cant tell the camera cut out) LOL....its on its way back to moto now to get fixed ....
