Okay but some frustrations

Sep 12, 2004 by wallacewhite

After using a few Nokia phones, I got this one because it was equally cheap but has a speakerphone--a great way to safely take a call when driving. I ended up returning it, though:

- The speakerphone has bad distortion when turned up sufficiently loud. It's also on the back of the flip lid, so it faces away from you.

- Vibrate can be enabled only by disabling all sounds.

- Two hands are needed to open the phone. Some other flips have a lip to grab or a push-button release.

- Since there's no caller ID on the outside, you set the phone to either (a) answer as soon as you open it but before you know who it is or (b) you can open it to see caller ID but then you must find the Send button to answer.

- The phone's shape and antenna make it tough to use on your shoulder (hands free). I dropped it twice in a week.

- The screen is transmissive and washes out in bright sunlight.

- The ringers are goofy, especally compared to the Nokia 3560.

Well, it's just my first phone...

Considering this is my first ever cell phone, and I've been wanting for one forever, I'm pretty happy with this one. I wanted a cute, small cell phone, and that's what I got. I'm kind of upset that there is no front display, and that it doesn't have Get It Now. The buttons are kind of small, or maybe my fingernails are just too long, whatever. But, the screen is nice and bright, it's menu is easy to use, and it's loud enough. I am so glad it has a speaker phone, that's one of the major benefits to the phone. The signal strength is also pretty good, I get at least a two bar signal throughout my house. Overall, this phone is pretty good, I would def. recommend it.

Good Phone

I've had this phone for almost a month and so far so good. I like all the features the phone has : speakerphone (very handy), color screen, easy to navigate, easy to access phone numbers, vibrate & ring, small clam shape, lightweight, etc.

The phone is tri-mode, so that's good. However, there is this echoing sound when I make a call or receive a call.

The phone also drops a call on occasion, which is a problem.

I also like the travel charger, which is small and light. You charge on the side of the phone, and the battery is inside the casing, which is cool.

Overall, the phone is a good phone for business and personal use ( I don't surf or take pics with the phone, so the fancy gizmos don't appeal to me). I just hope the dropped calls are not going to be a big problem in the future.

LG 3200

I've only had this phone for a few days, but I'm really enjoying its features.

PROS: Ease of setting up Contacts
Ease of Use in General
TriMode!!
Speaker phone
Color display
Small size
NO caller ID on outside - I am extremely rough on my phones and the displays always get scratched up really badly. So it's nice not to have to worry about that.

CONS
Poorly written manual
No games :'-(

Maybe if we beg and plead enough they'll write some games for this phone.

Just OK

Not a great phone.

Pros:
Better than average speakerphone.

Good voice quality

Cons:
Iffy battery life
Poor RF
Totally unusable LCD in daylight
No EXT. LCD

Considered VX-7k, got this instead

Well.. I have a 555 card and a laptop and a digital pro camera and a digital camcorder which I can use to make vids and pictures and use the laptop's mobil connection to send video, pictures.. so that stuff on a phone is fluff. I look for useful stuff. This phone works good enough. good reception, fairly clear, small. I got the built holster but carry it in my pocket instead.

I wanted to see the vx7k before I bought a phone and could not deal with the money for the gimmiks.

I have (for reasons that are not worth explaining) a Cingular account, a Verizon national network 555 unlimited pcmcia card and a Nextel i90c.

What I want from verizon is something not available.. a milspec phone. waterproof, dustproof, tough. I go with Verizon because of their coverage..

pros.. a kalashnikov of phones.. is good enough

cons.. hard to see screen in sunlight, can't find large 1700ma battery and it aint milspec...

Works in the country

I have driven from Geneva to Disney with this phone and have always had at least one bar in Geneva and most of the time 3 or more outside. I also went from Geneva to Coca Beach and the phone always had a signal. I even get a service inside the mall and inside my house. You only need one bar to make and receive calls.
Pros
-tri-mode (3 different signals so it works where all digital phones won't)
-small and light
-good speaker and mic for speaker phone
-voice recorder and voice dialing
-price (under $40 for a flip phone)
-battery life is great for a color phone
-it has all the features of the more $$ phones except for a camera
-it just works and its easy to use
Cons
-no headset or belt holder included
-no games (vtext.com)
-lost the little rubber plug that covers the data link connection. I would tape this on when you get the phone

I brought this phone because it got the best reviews out of all the verizon phones that I could buy. Its a great phone for just making calls but bad if you want a fancy phone with a camera and games.

Good Phone, Better Price, but lacks features.

I just receive this phone thus past week and have been using it for work, (I use the LG VX6000 for personal use), and it is a very good phone for the price. It may lack the bells and whistles that other phones through Verizon Wireless, and the 3 things that I liked about prior LG phones that I have owned is the fact that there was an exterior display unit for caller ID, signal strength, battery..etc. it came with a desktop charger, and a holster. The LG VX 3200 does not have the outer display so when you want to see what time it is, or see who's calling, you must open the flip. Having a desktop charger is always a big plus for me, then I can just plug it in and set it on my desk, and I don't have to worry about plugging it in all of the time, or finding where to plug it in. An easy place always seem to be the kitchen counter, though that might be the best place, and anywhere on the wall could be hazardous with a 2 year old son running around. The desktop charger to me is very valuable, and this phone does not come with one, nor can you even order one. But the phone as a whole is very good. It doesn't have the Get It Now apps, that most other Verizon phones have so playing games, or getting quality ring tones for this phone wont happen, but for a basic phone the signal strength is always very good. I can hear and be heard quite well no matter where I am at, the keypad is easy to use, and its easy to navigate between, and some of the features that is does have that I like are the fact its tells you what numbers you have dialed, and the speakerphone, which comes in very handy while working. If you are looking for a very good high quality phone, but are not looking to shell out a lot of Lincolns, Washingtons, this is the phone for you.

Great for the no frills user!

PROs

-Good signal (Verizon / Wichita, KS)
-Nice compact Size.
-Solid Construction.
-Awesome screen for it's size.
-Decent ringtones/alerts
-Very loud speaker-phone
-Vibrate option is strong, you
wont miss a call in your pocket.

CONs

-No external display
-Speaker-phone slightly distorted
at high volume
-Earpeice could be much louder
-No Web-Browser

Overall I was very pleased with this phone
but over time realized that the lack of
external display really bothered me, if you
can do without ... I would highly recommend
this handset for those looking for less flash
and more function.

Loved it!

For it's age and being a simpler phone, it still get's a good rating.

I had two of them. The first one was a victim to being laid on the table of a cafe and have water spilled on it. The inner screen was black, no longer could I check my texts, and that's really what all I did, I hardly ever call and still don't.

Since it was only on the screen (indicator's weren't tripped) I got it replaced and loved it.

Pros:
Good sound
Good images
good ability to text on (got an lg 3400 and returned it because the txting joy on it compared to the 3200 were not the same.
Great selection of ringtones
Able to be connected to usb to charge
Good budget to buy!

Cons:
No camera
No ability to pix message or recieve pix messages
No mobile web

Also one more thing to the pros. It was so able to be dropped a lot. I tossed it at a wall when i was mad sometimes and it got scratched, but if I tossed my 3400 at a wall I would be thinking i would have a screen shatter.
