Review of My Moto X

Dec 5, 2013 by ralph.el41

Carrier: Telcel (Mexico)

This review is my experience about upgrading from a mid-range (Sony Live with walkman) to a High-end Android.

Looks. The Moto X has an amazing 4.7’’ screen that is a lot better watching Netflix, videos and pictures. I like the slimmer body and the nice touch on the back.

OS. I have the 4.2.2 Jellybean and waiting for KitKat. I love the fact that it´s pure android (almost). I had 2.3.6 and I must say major improvement, kudos on the voice commands.

Performance. This was the reason I got this phone, I wanted to get a dual core processor, I have a PS and a SNES emulators and both perform way much better, if course a 1.7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon is definitely the way to go.

Memory/ Storage. The 2 Gb ram is awesome, great for multitasking between apps no lags at all. About the storage, well, I got the 16 Gb, and I only have 1 Gb left, since it doesn’t have an expandable memory, I have to constantly have to exchange data like games and movies from my phone to my PC. I´m barely in to the could storage but I would´ve liked to have the SD card slot option.

Camera. I´m not a camera person but OK, upgrading from 5 mpx to a 10+ mpx good enough for me. Al though, I have to say for a high-end phone this camera is not that good.

Battery. I think Motorola knows how to make batteries and this was no exception. The battery life is exceptional, I only charge it once a day for two hours or so and sometimes I don’t get to 15%.

Signal/ Volume /Call Quality. The signal is great it gets cellular and WIFI connection a lot better than my previous phone. The speakers on the Moto X are somewhat weaker. The call quality does have issues sometimes, I´ve been told several times that My voice sounds muffled on speaker and headphones, I almost never use the normal way.

Overall, I´m glad I got a two year contract on this phone, I´m loving it.

Pros. Processor, Ram/CPU, display and Battery
Cons. Storage, volume and Camera.

Great Phone; Limited Network

Oct 21, 2013 by KeepNTouch

Carrier: AT&T

I had this device for less than 3 days on AT&T's network. There were serious latency issues that the carrier tried to fault the device. Text messages arrived 45 minutes late, calls went straight to voicemail. It took as long as 30 seconds for a call to connect. When completing a Google Now command you had to wait for the phone to be released by the network to be ready for the next command. There were times I looked at the phone to make sure it was still working.

This problems were reminiscent of other user's experience on AT&T's network with other devices, SO I Can't fault the device. I have a family on Tmobile's network and there is none of that on that GSM network, but for now it's hard to get this phone on Tmobile without buying it at full price.

Call quality was excellent, however I did experience a little scratchiness at times and subtle hissing at other times. Nothing to distract from the call, just oh... that's new.

Great phone; the network had to go.

Well done, Moto!

Jan 2, 2014 by umpirerob

Carrier: T-Mobile

I purchased the 32 GB T-Mobile version of the Moto X and used the Motomaker site to customize it. While I considered the Nexus 5, battery life won me over and I have no regrets. What really makes this phone so great is the software that Moto has utilized. It's basically vanilla Android with some really useful and well executed software tweaks that are actually apps in the Play Store, allowing for quick updates w/o carrier approval.

PROs:
- 720p AMOLED screen allowing for Active Notifications w/o hurting battery life
- Customized with Motomaker
- Pricing off contract
- Touchless Controls
- Size and weight (4.7" screen but feels light and comfortable in hand)
- Software updating (was updated to 4.4 in merely weeks)
- Battery Life
- Software optimization - runs as smoothly as ANY Android device I've ever seen with zero stutter or lag and multi-tasks well.
- Assembled in U.S.A,

CONs:
- Camera is so-so
- No SD storage
- Non-removable battery (offset by great battery life)
- No wireless charging
- Hardware buttons feel a little cheap

Pleasantly Suprised

Dec 29, 2013 by Versed

Carrier: T-Mobile

I was skeptical about this phone, took the $150,00 deal last week, plus had some odd ball $220 credit do to some health insurane bonus that was offered for Moto/Google products and some other unrelated companies that I had little use. And 10% Corp discount.

Originally wanted the DE, but the $150 wasn't included, so went with the 16gb T-Mobile/Unlocked version and was able to use Moto Maker. (and 1 year interest free to pay it off) Reason for the above, is the reason I bought it, its a back up phone. But in the end more.

1. Fast, as fast or real life as fast as other devices I have recently bought, my other device is a Note 3, so wanted something smaller as a second phone/line. So perfect for me..
2. Unlockable bootloader if I need it. Play the flash ROM which not planning on doing.
3. Wifi, work is a dead zone, I log on once to the corporate wifi and it stays on the whole day. Every other device I have, if not used for 30-40 mins, have to go through the whole process.
4. Great voice, Better at data speeds then any other T-Mobile phone I have used.
5. Speed I ran quadrents, not a big fan of these phone, run them once on any new phone. If there's a difference, I don't notice it. No lag, none.
6 Fits great in the hand.
7. Not a fan of notications but like the option by default which turns sound notifications after 11pm.
8. Screen is sharp and colors are great.
9. Best battery endurance I have have seen on modern Smartphones.

Only real down side if the back is a bit slippy but have a clear case on order, with screen saver and matching ear bus. The camera is good, but not the best. Not a camera phne buff so its not a high priority for me.

I have made disparaging remarks about this phone in the past, do to just messing around with one for a few minutes in an AT&T store, to those people, I appoligize. In many case, a phone is more then the sum of its parts, this is one.

Googlorola's finest product. An American made piece of art.

Sep 13, 2013 by walpoleauto

Carrier: AT&T

I have had almost every modern phone on the market and switching between Verizon and ATT on a regular basis. Well I was currently on ATT and I can tell you this phone is an awesome work horse.
Pros:
Reception is better than iphone 5 and S4
Wifi Signal catches where other phones don't
Feels very nice in hands
Battery life is INSANE
Touchless controls work like a charm
720 display comparable to Iphone 5 resolution
Base android, fast and simple
Made in the USA
Google Drive free 50gb for 2 years

Cons:
Camera is rated at 10 pixel but it just takes horrible shots.
Sealed battery Li-Poly (cheaper lasting battery).
No microsd

I love this phone because it serves me 90% of my needs. I would not recommend it if you are running multiple heavy duty apps.
