National Access Coverage Not Available
Got this phone Dec 2010 and no problems until February and would get this error when downloading a picture or tying to send one "National access coverage not available" Verizon just sent me a new one. Same thing with the new one. Same thing with the 3rd Droid X. Verizon tried to tell me it's because I am near water (work in Boston MA) and could be the towers and so on. They had many excuses but truth is they had no idea. I realized that the problem wasn't them I looked through as many forums as I could and it all pointed to Verizon but more specifically Droid X. And for that banner to appear, one of the three Verizon, Google or Motorola had to write it into the software. Anyways, got a Droid X2 and never had that problem again. Although that was a piece of crap too. I am getting the Samsung Charge on Monday. Hopefully that solves all my problems.
Other issues I had was the delay in everything, resetting all the time. Shutting down on it's own. Camera sucks, flash was off by a hair so everything comes out dark at night. Duplicate texts and so on.
Better Than Nothing
I moved to the Droid X December 2010 from a BB Curve. My satisfaction with the move varies from day to day.
Pros:
Faster browser and faster Google maps
Nice large screen
Decent touch screen operation
Good selection of apps
Better battery life than expected (about 2 days)
Cons:
Speaker Phone. Audio is not as good as the BB Curve. Maybe it's a noise filtering "feature" but the perceived level in my pickup truck is noticeably less than my BB Curve.
Reboots. This phone reboots at times when running Google maps. I have also had it display the map upside down - my only solution was to pull the battery.
Battery Pulls. I have had to pull the battery a number of times to clear the phone so it would function again.
Voice Recognition. OK but slow and not as accurate as my BB Curve.
User Interface. The Settings page seems to have been designed by someone under the influence of drugs, with phone settings scattered under different headings vs being grouped together.
Bloatware. As some have reported, the phone is bloated with useless and unwanted apps. As others have done, I predict a Root day in my future.
Scrolling. It's a minor issue, but I miss the scrolling capability on my BB. The Droid X doesn't have scrolling capability when typing in the little msg screen when send a txt msg or email. It's a real pain when you want to go back a few words or lines to change a word, etc. The Droid touch screen implementation is just not as good as having a curser key or a scrolling ball.
Verizon Service. I have attempted to exchange my original phone twice but the "factory refurbished" phones sent from Verizon had other issues, prompting me to return them and keep the original phone (with it's issues).
Overall I'm mixed on the "upgrade". With the current mix of smart phone offerings, I'd give the Droid X a "B".
Horrible Battery Life
I was amazed at the cost-cutting measures on this phone. It feels very light, & cheap vs. previous Motorola Droid models. Battery life was horrible, in fact I had to charge this phone every 6 hours with minimal INTERNET use. I returned it to Verizon after few days, & had to pay 35 dollars re-stocking fee.
I am not sure if I would be inclined to buy another Motorola, because it might even be worse in battery. A new phone should last a whole day at least!
What a Let down.
Overall this phone was a huge let down.
Pros: The screen nice huge screen, Moto Blur, SD card (16GB)
Cons: Screen (makes the phone to big to hold even bigger with a needed protector case). Very slow, has glitches.
I went through two Droid X's and they were both slow, I did have a lot of apps, however I looked into this and seen that people rooted their X's in order to speed their phones, that is not ok, I should not have to root my phone in order for the phone to function the way that it should. I feel that many people who like this phone is great, I feel that is for people who like the phone as is. I love to change the screen and use different launchers and the phone did not work. Would force close
Better than expected
I got tired of waiting for Iphone and bought this, I am glad I did. There are still some glitches that I hope get fixed but in the end, it was a smart purchase. Bought on 12/24/10 and it is now 01/23/11. I gave it some time before reviewing to give a proper account. I traded in the LG touch for this and I consider it to a an upgrade.
Pros: extremely easy to see, texting is a breeze even w/o using swype. Call clarity and sound in general is amazing. Factory installed apps are not bad, average. Size is not an issue even for a vertically challenged person-fits well in hand but not pocket
cons: Voice command is very slow, camera is less than stellar (but it is just a phone) battery life is not great with average use-about once a day to charge. Some times it freezes but not terribly often and does sometimes forget settings on 1st try (could be O.E.). Back up has to be done manually and it should be automatic. No way to re-assign hard keys and no hard key to end call.
All in all, no regrets. I have a friend who has the iphone and hands down I prefer mine. Not to say I will not get one in 2 years (never by 1st generation of any phone)But I am satisfied with my X for now.
Gonna be missed
This phone is everything that anyone should ever need in a phone. I currently have the Droid X and have had it since release date, I was a Verizon sales associate when it came out and have recently switched my job to another carrier so I will be leaving the X behind.
PROS:
- first and foremost screen size and responsiveness
- processor the speed of this phone is among the top 3 of all phones out there and with little heat put off
- HDMI port I like this feature just for the option however I rarely used it
- BATTERY LIFE its in all caps for a reason I get a solid day even with alot of use
- internal memory I didn't ever have to worry about upgrading
- Camera and dual LED flash(also makes great flash light)
- Size of this phone is perfect
- Overall very satisfied
- GPS is excellent on this device as well I almost forgot about it as I have come to take it for granted I use it all the time
CONS:
- I cant use this phone with my carrier(hoping for something comparable in a GSM phone)
- The casing of the phone scratches up easy one drop and its not gonna look good however a cheap case and u have nothing to worry about...I would recomend a hard case though
I would deffently recomend this phone to EVERYONE on verizon whether you are a previous smartphone user or not this phone has something for everyone and is extremely easy to use. The ONLY phone I have seen to this day that I would consider faster than the droid X is t-mobile MyTouch 4G and thats probably because of the extra 256MB or ram the MyTouch has but if you have Verizon and looking for a new phone Droid X is a no brainer!

This is the absolute best phone i have ever had, there are no cons torwards this phone there are so many pro's i couldn't list them all the touchscreen keys board is amazing and the camera is awesome.

Droid X = KING!!!!
I made the leap from Sprint to Verizon and initially I was spoiled by the two devices I had with Sprint. Coming from the EVO and Epic I kind of expected this phone to trump those two devices. While the Droid X doesn't have "4G" speeds, the data on it is fast enough. The display is what lured me in from the gate. While I am feeling empty and incomplete without my keyboard I will manage. The sound quality on this phone is superb. Haven't used the speaker yet but so far the call quality is nice. One thing that I noticed on here is that when I use to d/l apps on my Sprint devices the phone would freeze when I was in the app market downloading several apps at once. Not with the Droid X...I can download several apps at once and the phone doesn't slow down one bit. The battery life is decent from what I can see and no grips so far on the usage. The display when completely lit is probably as beautiful as the Epic 4G was. So far I can't find a single thing wrong with this phone...well maybe one. There is a minor lag in this device but nothing to make you mad or want to return the device. The size of the device is something I needed and wanted. Off of the strength of the lag I am giving this pretty little thing 4.5. I weighed this phone against the Fascinate and the Droid 2 and after reading fellow Phonescoop reviewers of the other devices, I am sure I made the right decision and if you picked or pick this device you did as well.
I Love My Droid
I have been using cell phones since the car trunk sized days then I got the "bag phone" WOW!!! and then..... well have had a lot of years experience with a lot of phones. Lately I got the original Droid.... not too shabby and I really liked most of it. Then The "X" came out. I gave the old Droid to my daughter and got the "X" .... Now this is really the first phone I have really liked right from the start. For once Verizon is going in the right direction. I love this phone, the size was a bit large at first but I got used to it in just a couple days... no issues now. The voice quality is awesome, Most people on the other end don't even know I am an a cell phone. I love the camera, Very sharp and crisp photos even for a cell phone. Data connection is great as is the cellular voice signal... I have decent reception even in fringe areas. I do hope that as Verizon expands to 4G/LTE that the newer phones follow this quality.

this motorola droidx is by far the best phone i have ever owned... my ONLY gripe would be the set up for texting and typing. when i type in long stories, go back to do the spell check, its sometimes very difficult to get the cursor back to where you need it to be... i guess i miss the good ole arrow buttons that you could press to make the cursor go left or right... other than that... this phone is golden! buy it! (:
