excellent

Oct 18, 2003 by starscream

pros:
good pictures
excellent screen
very customizable
aesthetically attractive
very powerful (lots of features)
best designed S/E phone
Tri-Band
excellent audio quality

cons:
not the greatest reception, but not a deal breaker
sometimes slow to respond
not enough memory
signal meter is a joke, S/Es bounce around ALOT
screen hard to see in sunlight

overall this is an excellent phone. Perhaps best on the market. the cons are very nit picky, i had to really dig to find something wrong with this phone.

The Ultimate Machine!

This Sony Ericsson T616 is awesome! I cannot belive how much features have. This phone feels solid and refined. The screen is shinny and crystal clear. The quality is top notch. Battery life is excellent. Is fast and cool. It gets a little bit to get used to the 'back' button, there is not a YES or NO button as previous Sony Ericsson phones. Although is solid is at the same time fragile. It gets soiled and dirty very easily. And scratched too. A leather case is a must! Is a excellent phone and it has no competition at this price range. Is the Cadillac of the phones!

Very pleased

I have had the t616 for about three days now and i am very pleased with it. I am most pleased with the fact that it works 100% with my jabraa blue-tooth headset. The only real lacking thing that i can find is the camera is very low quality but hey i didn't buy the phone for the camera. If you are looking for a little phone with blue-tooth capabilities then this is for you. If you want pro camera features i would look elsewhere.

Best phone I ever had

I just bought the t616 phone today and I just love it. The features are great and I love the compact size. It's not like some camera phones big and bulky. I recommend this phone to anyone!

on the right track

had a T68i but had to give it up due to slow UI and poor reception.

got an S56 and loved it for its stronger reception and speakerphone, but didn't love its funky UI. also, the keys just didn't work sometimes.

bought my dad a T616 for the camera phone and was jazzed by it, so traded in my S56 for one. opinion so far:

+ love having a camera, even though the quality is not great. even if it took 4-megapixel pictures, however, you wouldn't have space to store them and it would take forever to send via GPRS. give it 5 years.

+ UI is gorgeous, fast, and responsive. finally put the on/off button up top like nokia. one button for jumping back a menu instead of overloading the "END" button. to-do list actually useful (unlike s56) because you can see more than 2 entries at once.

+ battery life is reminiscent of the T68i, whereas S56 was not strong.

- i REALLY miss the speakerphone.

- reception is noticeably better than T68i, but not as strong as S56.

overall, SE is now on the right track. the T68i was a super concept with rotten execution; now they have fixed most of the big issues. at this point, reception is probably more of an AT&T Wireless issue than a SE issue, though i'm sure that could be improved.

fyi, the Nokia 6310i has the best AT&T GSM reception of any phone i've tried.

Sound is subpar

I must be in the minority thinking that sound clarity both ways is very important. Because the sound quality on this phone sucks. Everyone is saying "beautiful!" But few are saying how great it sounds. I just got off the phone with someone who couldn't hear me at all until I pulled over in my SUV, a pretty darn quiet Ford Expedition. As soon as I pulled over, they said "Hey, I can hear you now. What did you do?" I talk with people all the time who are driving on their mobile phones, and many times I can't tell that their on a cell. Not so with the T616. Everyone knows I'm driving. So I'm returning this for a Nokia 6200. The reviews there seem to tout the sound quality instead of just its looks. I have a Nokia 5160 that smoked this junk.

Ditto to most

I agree. It is one of the best phones out there. Most of people's comments, both pro and con pretty much echo my sentiments.
I wouldn't mind a tad more memory to store more photos, but oh well.
Really, the only thing I dislike is something someone mentioned too-the plastic connector pins on the accessories.
I had a pre-Sony Ericsson phone in 2000, and my car charger stopped fitting into the phone after about 6 months. I can't stand the connection port (or whatever it's called) on the SE's. I wish they made it circular like Nokias. I've had the T616 for about 3 months now with no problems with the car charger, but it's definitely a tight fit.
Indeed the T616 has a beautiful form factor-quite elegant and sleek.

Great Package

Great phone Overall.

Crispy Clear Colored Screen.
Nice Camera Resolution for a built in Cam.
Compact size and weight.
Battery Life is great compared to its size.
Great Add-in applications and downloads.
Memory could be more to accommodate all of your contacts. For now, just take pictures of those you communicate with most frequently.
Built-in Blue tooth is awesome.
The price was too high, but now has come down considerably. You may even get it free with a service contract.
Its the best phone I've had so far.

Number one phone out there

I just bought this phone like a month ago. At first I didn't want to buy it because it looked big and ugly on the computer screen, but when I got it it is really neat with its metallic and onyx colors, and its light and classy. The screen is just fantastic, the navigation is simple and contains many programs. The polyphonic ring tones are great and the reception is pretty decent down here in Orlando, FL. But we need to understand that it is a GSM technology barely two years old and it needs to be perfected, so I am not stressing it, I can wait. I love my phone and every chance I get I play with it with its awesome games. The joystick is a plus, but I would say like many others did the only con with it is the camera resolution, is not that good but is not that bad either. But in all I am not into it for the camera, I love the BIG colorful screen, the BLUETOOTH is great. And now all I am looking forward to find down here is the different metallic exchangeable plates for the battery and the lower front part of the phone. I recommend 100% this phone to anyone, if you think about it, don't think about it too much just get it, it is a sweet gadget to own plus it attracts attention from people when they see it anywhere you go. A great experience my first Sony Ericsson and I think this wont be the last one if they keep making great products like this one. T616 RULES

I CANT WAIT TO GET RID OF IT!!!!!!!

Sep 13, 2004 by haveaday

Woooooooow... im so tired of this "phone". i used to have the nokia 3600 and at the time i didnt like it b/c it kept dying but know i reeeally want it back... im so tired of the crappy camera quality (3600 was so much better) the phonebook sucks, u cant see the screen in daylight, the ringtones sound really bad and they arent loud at all, the crappy camera quality...oh..and the crappy camera quality.... even if you buy a background online it still looks like crap. im just going to try to just degrade and get one of the samsung ones (not a camera phone...), just a normal flip phone...im tired of this camera crap...its just not worth the money spent on this quality. now if it was my old 3600 i would pay for that one. even though it had quite a few bugs and messed up every now and then, its soooooooo worth it... plus the T616 doesnt have a phone lock(unlike the 3600, where it locks down the entire phone. not just the keys) and it lacks a speakerphone (3600 speakerphone worked excellently and i used it all the time). the only thing i do like about this tiny little phone was the size... its cool having such a small phone but woooooooooooooooow give it a week and you'll know what everyone is talking about... you'll start to hate it as well. i just hope no one wastes anymore money on this thing. if ur into flip phones i would reccommend the Moto V400 or V600. i have a few friends who have these and they have been awesome phones. good luck and DONT FALL INTO THE TRAP...AVOID THIS PHONE AT ALL COSTS...
