Decent Net10 Phone

Jun 24, 2009 by GameKing23

The Samsung SGH-t201g is a phone offered by Net10. The t201g has the same OS as Tracfone's SGH-t301g minus a few features. For example there are no games on the t201, and you are not able to change the background color like you can on the t301g. Overall the t201g is a decent phone call quality is great. Battery life lasts for a good while. In all the t201 is a decent phone while it does not have some features like the t301. This phone is a great phone whether you need an emergency phone or if you do not us the phone to often.

Good enough for me

I can't easily compare this phone with many other phones because I'm sort of new in the cell phone neighborhood. But I'll rate it for how it suits my needs:

I bought it for $39.95 with Net10 as the service provider, but when considering that it included 300 minutes @ 10 cents per minute in the purchase, the phone was $9.95.

My biggest complaint is the advertised hands free speaker. Unless I still haven't figured out how to use it, I can't easily call it that. If in a completely quiet room, I can hear the speaker up to maybe 4 inches away from my ear. This was the biggest feature I wanted in a new cell phone.
However, what I do like is that it is loud in the ear at full volume.

I read customer reviews and found a lot of bad press about Net10's tech and customer service. But my own experience with them so far was really good. I've emailed them with about 5 questions after subscribing to them for about 3 days now, and received responses in only a few hours or the next day, even though they say that their responses could take up to 48 hours. Yesterday, I got tech support in about 5 minutes after locking myself out of the phone. Maybe I just got lucky.

What I like about the T201g:

-It is nice and slim with a sleek look and is well lit.
-It has a number of musical rings including my own favorite..a normal digital ring. It sounds like a real phone.
-Has 9 station memory dialing.
-Volume control is on the side.
-Caller ID on front when closed.

The cons:
-Is that a speaker phone?
-Isn't Bluetooth compatible.
-Locked into Net10's web site when getting news, weather, and sports.
-Many generic down loadable ring tones only from Net10's site.
-Only about 4 included wallpapers.
-At this time, only 4 down loadable wall papers from Net10's site only....and they are all of Tinker Bell.

This is just a nice little basic phone for someone who doesn't want the expense of expensive phones. I would have rated it at 4.5 stars if it weren't for the speaker phone.

One little problem, display is a bit washed out. Probably using STN instead of TFT
