BEST EVER !

Jul 14, 2008 by Windsponge

I have been looking at phones for three months . Looking on line, at stores, trying everything I could find. I looked at all carriers, I have Verizon and have before they merged with Air Touch. I can say I tried everything out there . Hands-on and researched all.I even bought a Blackberry 8330 and sent back to Verizon after I was so disappointed in it. All other touch phones I tried we not even in same world as IPhone.I tried Dare, Glide,Instinct. All that are out.I repeat nothing even close. Didnt mind standing in line all night to get phone.I believe the negatives are false. The phones they mention are not even close.I have complained to Verizon for years and they just dint care.I now own IPhone and am thankful to God that someone finally tried to make something as special as the IPhone. I called Verizon Repetedly to see if anything they had coming would compare. Dare was best they could offer.Like a childs toy compared to a super computer.Buy what you want that is what life is about but I love the Iphone and my next computer will be a Mac.If they build phone like this there computer must be amazing. So far the reception for ATT on this phone has been much better than my reception for Verizon in the area I use.So let me finish by saying Verizon made a big mistake not taking IPhone.I truly love it.I live in west Central Ohio.
Pros:Ipod, Internet, Caculator, Pictures< Everything.

Cons: Compared to other phones non at all.

so far so good

it's only been a day and a half since I've owned this phone but I must say I am pretty impressed. the app store has tonssss of great apps some free others not. I see people complaining about the battery life but to be quite honest I have not experienced any problems with it. I have had it off charge since 930 am I have played a game I have used the Internet, aim, talked on the phone etc and it's 1230 pm and I still have full battery. the only problem I've been having so far is with the keyboard. I cannot seem to be able to type without making mistakes and having to go back and fix them. other than that I am very satisfied with this phone and definetly recommend it to other people. the only people I do not recommend this phone to are women with long nails because I had them and had to go to the nail salon to get them cut off.

It's an improvement.

I've finally managed to get my hands on the highly anticipated iPhone 3G. I presume most are familiar with the previous iPhone model, so the format of my review will be a comparison of the two phones.

First, the form factor does not seem to be that different. The earphone jack and back cover seem to be only exterior features of the phone that have changed. The earphone jack is no longer recessed deeply into the phone, allowing for enhanced compatibility with other earphones. Also noticeable is the plastic back cover of the phone, which was previously aluminum. It makes the phone feel glossier, a bit lighter, and perhaps a bit more prone to smudges.

Writing much about iPhone OS 2.0 doesn't seem necessary to me because it is available on both phones. However, I will tell you that the App Store is fantastic, and a much welcomed addition to the device. In addition, Microsoft Exchange appeared to be a significant selling point to many of whom I spoke to on the line. It seems that Apple may have brought a few business customers to its platform today. We'll see.

3G is obviously the main selling point of the device. Without a doubt, it is noticeably faster than EDGE. It isn't "quite" as rapid as WiFi, but it is probably more comparable in speed to WiFi than EDGE. Test it out in a store and see for yourself.

GPS is also a favorable addition. The new version of the "Maps" application is extraordinarily accurate in pinpointing one's location on the map. Plus, GPS can be used in several location based applications, such as the newly released "Loopt". Very valuable, in my opinion.

The most unexpected upgrade to the phone was the improvement in audio quality. I used the previous iPhone model for a year, and after a half a day's worth of usage on the new iPhone, I can say that there is a noticeable difference. The speaker and receiver are clearer.

In conclusion, 3G, GPS and better audio quality make this device superior. Otherwise, it seems very similar to its predecessor.

A good multimedia device

I read tons and tons of reviews and had a hard time making a decision but I finally took the plunge and bought the I-Phone 3G. I read quite a few negative reviews and was naturally very concerned because I use my phone a lot...I was also a long time Verizon customer and my experience with Verizon were very good.

After using the I-Phone for a month, putting it through the paces, I feel it's a pretty solid device. It's so much more then a phone and that's the cool thing. You can surf the net, check email, calendar, SMS, blue tooth, world phone, one touch weather, GPS. The touchscreen works very well and the display is gorgeous...Build quality is decent but not exceptional. Wifi is brilliant. Very easy to hook up to any network and surfing is fast. The virtual keyboard takes some getting used to but it works out very well with a little practice.

Now the phone is not without its problems which may or may not be a deal breaker for some. ATT service is not as good as Verizon. Call quality is definitely a few steps behind Verizon but it still works. There is just more echo and static and the occasional dropped call. Battery life is horrible. Especially when using Wifi or heavy calling via blue tooth. You have to keep charging the phone (charging the phone is a breeze by the way and the phone charges very fast - approx 35 minutes for a full charge). The phone is also bulky so this could be a problem for some. 3G is NOT noticeably faster then EDGE and is not widely available yet. The data plan is an extra expense but necessary for any Iphone user.

Overall despite it's problems (and no phone is without its pros and cons), the IPhone 3G is a solid device. It redefines the concept of a phone by offering so much more...I wasn't disappointed and feel I made a great choice.

Keep coming back to iPhone

Hello, my name is Craig and I am a phoneaholic.
Seriously though, I have always enjoyed cell phones ever since my first NEC car phone with L.A. Cellular. I keep up with all things new here on Phonescoop and learn everything I can about what's new. I almost always try the latest and greatest; focusing primarily on PDA-business devices. I purchased iPhone 1 on the launch date and was very impressed. I purchased a Nokia N95-3 and liked it, but went back to the iPhone. I bought a Tilt, liked it, but went back to the iPhone. Then came iPhone 3G and I upgraded to it and really liked the improvements that Apple made. I felt that they stopped short, however, of making a rock solid all-included device. But I am sure that the next generation will include Flash for web, MMS, a better Bluetooth stack, etc.... After all, if you make the perfect device, where do you have to go from there. I recently found the FUZE (HTC Touch Pro) at the AT&T store and decide to try it. It had some cool features, but I kept thinking that I was making sacrifices and excuses for it when comparing it to the iPhone. The touch screen was not nearly as user friendly and I was constantly ending up in the wrong place when trying to scroll. The Opera browser was not nearly as good as Safari. There is not a media player that operates as well as the iPhone's. Reception was better on the iPhone, and the OS was much more laggy with WM 6.1 so I took the FUZE back and reactivated my iPhone. I couldn't believe how nice it was to go back. The touch screen feels effortless and almost intuitive compared to the others that I have tried. Getting places on the iPhone is almost instantaneous as opposed to WM 6.1 which requires going through multiple menus to get to your destination. The iPhones have been able to keep me interested longer than any other phone that I have owned.

Apple truly revolutionized the UI. All other manufacturers have been trying to copy and improve on it since it came out.

Very Nice Phone

Jul 14, 2008 by Jay-Wheelz

First I will say that coming from having a Nokia E62 & Blackjack for work phone this phone is definitely a joy to have. Personally I would prefer a Nokia because of the stability and quality over most phones but so far this IPhone is pretty nice. My pro's are:

Pro's:
Nice sleek design
Excellent touch screen ( reaction time)
wifi
3G when you can find it
The hard drive space
Video ringtones
screen size
App store
syncing my Ipod's music to this phone
and so on.....

Con's:
No video recording. It's plenty of space for it.
A light or flash for the camera. I mean this phone has a fairly descent camera and you have to have perfect lighting.
The battery life could be better but it's not worst then the Blackjack which is the worst phone I ever owned.
Lastly not being able to remove the back cover. This is probably the worst thing because what if your Sim card is defective. You'll have to send your phone off or pay to have it fix which is stupid but thats a Apple problem.

Overall this phone is what it is. I think their design creatively changed the mobile phone industry just a little bit. Just look at all the other phone release since this phone launched.

SCREW THE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK THIS PHONE IS AWESOME

Jul 21, 2008 by hucworld

Honestly I have fell in love with this phone. For someone that didnt own the original iPhone, this phone is beautiful. The internet connection is smooth and beautiful and the fact that you can save photos from the web and use them as wallpapers and save them to your camera roll is nice. The sleek feel and design is sweet. Even though it is very very prone to fingerprints that in my opinion is secondary. I have toyed with putting this phone in my pocket and on my hip and either way I forget that its there cause of the weight. The biggest hang up to me was no picture mail but I fastly got over that once I gave all my contacts my email address and now all my photos come thru there. The battery life has been more than exceptable to me. I went all day Saturday without a charge and had not one issue. Overall I endorse this phone and love it.

Goodbye AT&T/iPhone 3G…Hello Verizon Wireless Part 1

Jul 26, 2008 by radcloser

My son and I were numbers 31 & 32 in line at the local AT&T store in Beaverton, OR on July 11th, 2008. We were very anxious to get our hands on two new 16GB iPhones. Althoug we had been in line a long time our sales experience was positive and the sales reps were friendly. After leaving the store, that's when things started going wrong. It didn't take long to discover the following significant and repetitive problems:
1) Took a long time to activate phones.
2) MobileMe didn't work.
3) Battery was obviously insufficient to support the hardware.
4) The Safari browser consistently kicked us out of the session to the home screen.
5) Opening applications consistently shut the phone down completely before re-booting.
6) iPhone performance was laggy compared to original iPhone.
7) We'd have 4 to 5 signal bars on EVDO and 0 bars when switching to 3G.
8) I dropped 2 phone calls the first day I had service. One in Lake Oswego and the other in Beaverton on the 26 freeway. Both of these areas are highly populated suburbs of Portland, OR.
9) Can't use previous powered accessories as Apple has changed the power pin for the connector. Hence, my Bose stereo I bought for $300 specifically made for the Apple iPod won't charge phone while in use. Nor will the $3000 Kenwood stereo system I had professionally installed in my 2007 Toyota Camry work with the new iPhoney.
Hoping to get assistance from the friendly people at the AT&T store, I called the store. I was told they hadn't heard of any such problems and was offered no support alternatives thereby choosing to ignore my concerns. I googled iPhone 3G problems and discovered people all over the world having similar issues.
On July 24th, I decided to return both iPhones to the store and again received the same response. They denied having any knowledge of such problems.
