Best phone ever!

Jan 12, 2009 by tayacb

I've had this phone since this past summer (it is now January), but I waited to review because I was afraid of the touch screen. But I have had no problems! I absolutely love this phone and recommend it to anyone!

PROS:
-Phenomenal battery life. Easily lasts five days.
-Fast & responsive touch (I was shocked when I played with my boyfriend's latest Blackberry and it lagged; the DARE is much quicker)
-Durable; I drop it all the time and it's fine
-You can use any object (fingernail... end of a pen) to scroll through or use the phone. It is not temperature sensitive like the Chocolate was
-Easily converts to be used horizontally or vertically
-" list
-Everything about this phone; check other user reviews which clearly state the pros

CONS:
-takes a while to learn camera; seems blurry at first but once you learn it it's great
-typical limited Verizon user interface (although much better than any previous phones I've had)
-Calendar interface difficult to use
-Inbox limited to around 200 messages (I believe this is dependent on the outbox although I'm not sure)

Overall I LOVE this phone! First phone I've had with no problems, and much clearer and faster than the new Blackberry; though the Blackberry email interface might be more appealing for business motivated users.

Excellent Phone

Pros:
Light, Small and Compact.
Good Battery Life
Good Signal with a Fast Browser
Rubberized back for good grip

Cons:
Texting is hard to get good at for some people like me
Low light produced for backlight(glare)
Sometimes people complain of not being able to hear me.
Video camera has a blue tint problem in high speed.

This is one of the best phones released for verizon network. The touchscreen is amazingly accurate especially coming from the voyager which touchscreen sucks in accuracy. So they really improved it when making this phone. Multi-tasking music player is also a plus when your on those bored days with nothing to do besides texting. Some things that need to be worked on are some of the glitches that the phone produces such as the phone restarting when doing something such as scrolling through text messages on the phone but you can fix this by resetting the phone which I found out on http://LG-Dare.com. But I believe the restarting problems can be fixed in a firmware update. But the phone has alot of tricks and features which you might not figure out until a couple of days after you get the phone. I know LG made a site( http://www.lgmobilephones.com/phone.aspx?id=8712 ) thats basically a picture manual for the LG Dare and it really helped learn the phone also.

What a phone....

I got my phone from http://www.vx9700.com and recieved it a while back. I must say this is the best phone put out by Verizon Wireless.

Pros:
Great touchscreen capabilities
AMAZING camera
Love the Rhapsody Services
Good Battery Life

Cons:
Still doesnt have dual(multi) touch
Wish it was a little easier to manipulate the battery.

Not Dare Yet

In my opinion LG makes great phones. When I saw new,LG,thin, and touchscreen my eyes began to glaze over in cell phone bliss. Unfortunately, they are not quite there yet. I had several (wow you are so smart) moments but not enough to hold me on.

Pros
Here is what stood out for me
ӢBattery Life = Awesome
ӢYou can drag your most used features to the desktop front screen.
ӢYou can mark people as favorites and get to their contact info on a special screen (using the star on the front control panel)
ӢYou can scroll vertically up/down through your contact list with your finger.
Ӣability to dial write from the contact list is a great time saver.

Cons
ӢThe overall touch response performance is poor. The buttons light up and a tactile feedback is given and nothing happens.
example:
Phone rings..press unlock(nothing happens)..press unlock(it unlocks)press answer (nothing happens)press answer (miss the call)

ӢThe horizontal search by pressing a size.08 font on the contact list is useless

ӢThe text messaging experience borders on nightmare.
-The standard keypad (ABC,Abc etc) is terrible and the enter letter using handwriting recognition is worse. The keyboard is actually OK. After a little practice I was even able to use my thumbs with no problem. Putting the done button next to the clear button is just silly. You will invariably press done when you are attempting to fix a typo.

-There is no easy way to navigate through the text you have entered to fix typos or cut words. You are required to use your finger to put the cursor on the correct spot which is somewhere between difficult and impossible. I don’t understand why they didn’t use one of the hardware controls like the volume buttons or provide some easy way of navigating within the text.

With all that said I can’t wait for the next version to come out when they fix the issues related to response performance. It was the #1 reason why I returned my Dare. Shame..I really wanted to love this phone.

I DARE you to get it!

Cons:

dare to be heard

Jul 5, 2008 by jhoser

I have always had flip phones and decided to upgrade. My son has the voyager and loves it. Lives in Memphis with TV capability. Not an option in mid-Michigan yet so not included in decision. With the dare coming out I tried it because they said the internet was quicker and I liked the size. On the way home from the store i got a call and a conversation was going on in the back seat. Not knowing what was going on the caller said they heard that conversation louder than mine. My wife and I always use our phones at work in crowded areas. If this is normal I can't keep the phone. We tried a side by side use in a grocery store. My wifes dare picked up a lot of noise 15 feet away and my daughters envy was clear. Other cslls this evening stated "your watching TV aren't you". I want to like this phone. Calling verizon they said the only mic sensitivity was the total system volume. That would mean I couldn't hear instead of them not hearing me. Not a good solution. If it does everything great but you can't talk on it...it isn't really a phone.

PRO size, ease of use, screen works well,

CON can you hear... just me now?

awsome phone

No Iphone Killer

Jul 8, 2008 by mediaguypj

Ok.

I paid full price for this phone I really really wanted to like it.

Here are the pros:

Clean crisp signal
Loud Speaker phone
I like the texting
Fast internet

Cons:

The browser is just not fully developed
The browser is what totally kills this phone.
Rhapsody, flat out music is horrible on this phone.
The contact list is very hard to navigate. I have over 250 people and its just a pain in butt to do when on in the car.
Very hard to type things into your browser.

I am returning this phone, honestly I really really wanted to like. Its more a teeny booper trinket than the phone its said it is.

This Friday I am going Iphone.

No good if you use remote Outlook

Jul 24, 2008 by klevers

OK, so I REALLY wish I could keep this phone, but I can't. I need to have my Outlook calender and contacts and EVERYTHING on my phone and because my work's outlook is remotely based the sync program... won't.

When they tell you that the phone will sync with Outlook they aren't being completely honest. What really happens is that Verizon's server talks to your server and then the DARE gets the info from Verizon. In other words, the DARE does not sync directly to Outlook and the fastest auto-sync available is once every hour. I don't know about you guys but that will not cut it for me. I need my email NOW!!! You can manually sync whenever you want but that is far from ideal.

I really like everything else about the phone... too bad the MOST important thing doesn't work worth a cr@p.

Cool, but not sure if it's worth it

Pro's
-Great style and look to phone
-3.2mp camera!
-Slim
-Nice display and overall setup

Con's
-Bluetooth is very poor, as with most LG's
-Reception is not the best
-texting takes a very long time
-internet is slow, if you get a connection at all
-frequent lag time of about a second and a half when emailing and sometimes texting

Review:
Overall, the phone is awesome and fun. It looks and feels great. Problem is with the texting and typing. I left a Palm 755p and went to this and now I am probably going to return it and get the Palm Centro instead. Definitely lacking compared to the iPhone and even the Instinct, but a cool phone if you can get past how long it takes to type things.
