Great Basic Durable Phone

Apr 17, 2008 by Maxwell69

I'll start off by stating that I am a 38 year old police detective in a busy metropolitan area. I don't do the text thing, I don't take pictures with my phone and I certainly don't have time to listen to music on it. I need a basic good quality, reliable phone with direct connect ability and a front caller ID display to see who is calling without ever having to flip the phone open.

PROS:
* I am amazed at the very long battery life!!! Several days at a time without charging!!!
* One month without any dropped calls or problems with Direct Connect.
* Loud and clear conversations.
* Hard rugged rubberized shell.
* Doesn't look like the typical bumpy rubber coated construction phone.
* Attractive looking - Looks good with either jeans or a business suit
* Can be used on a construction site or in an office.
* Nice well-lit display with large easy to press keys.
* Keypad is rubber coated and protected from environment.
* Nice colorful interior display.

CONS:
* None at this time.

So, overall if your looking for a great basic phone that you can use every day in any environment and still look stylish, then I highly suggest the Motorola i570 as a top pick.

I570 - Rugged with Bluetooth

Feb 22, 2008 by hewson76

This phone does do what it supposed to. No camera, rugged design, bluetooth, and the iDEN PTT network along with Group Talk so you can reach a whole lot of other iDEN (or hybrid) phones at the same time. If you go camping you can also use the long range walkie talkie between other iDEN phones with the Direct Talk feature on or off the iDEN network.

I prefer the i560

Jul 2, 2009 by ShadowScorpion

The big T offered me this one for $75 after my i560 drowned in a bowl of punch. Yes, putting the phone on vibrate and distractedly putting it on top of the fridge while there is a bowl of punch nearby is a stupid idea, but an accident. The phone came back to life after it's successor arrived in the mail.

I admit, at first I wasn't sure. I wasn't head over heels on how this one looked, but I took a chance and ordered it anyway.

The i570 is a bag of mixed nuts for me. I can make a lot of parallels between the i560/570, but from a purely personal POV, I honestly say I prefer the i560... the black version looks damn fine.

Putting aesthetics aside, as a communication tool, the i570 is another very fine offering that delivers the good on all fronts. Phone, DC, pager... you name it, the i570 does it superbly. Oh yeah, this one uses WiDEN for data, so web browsing is OK. The big T's pricing of MiKE data plans is absolutely laughable, so I don't use it.

Unfortunately, the i570 has an uniform design, and a gigantic screen cover who scratches like nobody's buisness. Same can be said for the back, though the gigantic screen cover on the front of the phone has a minimal degree of protection which consists of a rubber contour.

The charger port is masterfully hidden and very well protected from dirt/dust. Took me a few seconds to find the charge port when I first got it, I'll admit. The i570 uses the generic iDEN charger port, and uses the same batteries then it's predecessors.

From a purely aesthetic point of view, the i560 remains my personal favorite, but I'll give praise where praise is due, the i570 is a rock-solid communication tool.

So in short:

PROS:
- Excellent RF
- Excellent audio
- Tried, tested and true DC
- Better performer on the battery front than it's sires were
- Screen is crisp (well, for a 65535 colors LCD, that is)

CONS: The usual sigh to so-so battery life... and the smooth plastic design.

Ehhh

works by wow is it ugly. my only beef with this phone is that the DC button is very "soft" All nextels have a stiff button. I am going to demo it to a construction field worker. lets see how it holds up.
