Great Phone

Apr 11, 2003 by Jim Winters

I just bought the i95cl for my wife as birthday present and now, I plan to buy one for myself. I was originally going to buy a different phone, but after programming the address book and using the phone for the past few days, I'm hooked!

Pros: The phone is VERY intuitive. Menu options are where you would expect them to be and the phone does what you would expect when using it. The phone has a good color display. It has some very good ring-tones and the ability to download others. The Java Apps. section is great for downloads and easy to use. Direct Connect works like a charm and is much easier to use than the older "mode" phones from Nextel.

Cons: Just a few: The screen would be better if it were brighter and sported more colors, the wallpaper selection is limited - wish there were downloads of wallpaper available, no alarm clock (got the download and it works great!), Limited number of characters in address book when entering names, slightly bulky design (although this is not the issue that I thought it would be).

Overall this is a GREAT phone.. and I've had a few. Nextel's service seems to be very good so far. I would not hesitate in recommending this phone to anyone. However, the phone is not rugged. It is for an office professional or personal consumer who is not abusive to their phones. Just to be safe, buy the insurance. The phone is currently retailing for $299!

This is the best phone out there!! The volume on this phone is amazing, it's higher than my normal phone!! The weight and size isn't a problem for me!! It fits fine with a belt clip!! THE BEST PHONE I'VE EVER OWNED!!

Excellent features

I'm very happy with my i95cl on Nextel, color screen, J2ME, speakerphone, the ability to group numbers in individual name entries, good sound quality, very customizable phone interface...

I've seen the size mentioned, but it's far from being huge, and I actually find it's size quite comfortable, plus I'd imagine packing a speakerphone the size/quality that Motorola packs in there wouldn't be possible with the size.

About the only thing that bothers me, but not that much is battery life, I've been going through more than one battery a day typically, but then again, I've been playing a lot of Java games/running programs/talking a lot, and since I have two batteries and a desktop charger, it's not a big deal to me.

Giant monster

Although this phone is in colour (a somewhat rarety now in the American market) and has Java (which I love) it is still HUGE. Motorola has a habit of making gigantic mobiles, I'm not sure why. I hope the companies will come to adapt Japanese mobiles. But back to the topic, this phone has some nice features, it's just too big.

First of all Nextel is the best service around. Along with having the best service, you have to have the best phone. The i95cl gives you everything you need while you are on the go. There are things I can do with this phone that set the standards I look for in other cell phones. Along with the direct connect, I check and receive my msn email, I keep in touch with my AOL buddies all day everyday because I am constantly logged onto AOL, I can also check my AOL email right from the phone. At times I use the i95cl as a modem for my laptop which is a great feature when you want to surf the web from anywhere. The java applications are great also. I have downloaded business applications, and plenty of games to keep my interest. I also love the many ring tones available for the i95cl via iden update. If you are running late for a new movie and you see the long line outside, just go to moviefone.com on your i95cl and order the tickets. Then pass everyone and swipe your card at one of the machines. If Nextel comes out with another phone I really hope they keep all of these features and add more, if not then the i95cl I would keep for life.... Go on ahead and purchase this phone, it is imperative!!!!!

Very pleased.

I just recently purchased an i95cl at a local Nextel Retailer, and I'm happy to report that I'm very pleased. It's a very rugged phone which pleasantly surprised me. The signal is great inside my place of work, and the direct connect worked perfectly on a four hour trip by car to see friends. The speaker phone is CRYSTAL clear (very important)...why can't every manufacturer do this? Voice quality during cellular calls has also been perfect. Overall a great phone with great service, and the walkie talkie fulfills the little boy in me. ;)

the phone works great, im am very pleased thus far. I used to own a 3360 by nokia, and although the software for the nokis was more user friendly, i find this one to be quite interesting. The reception is great (NEXTEL, Hollywood Florida), i can usually tell when someone is on the cell phone but when i speak to someone else who has the same phone it sounds like a normal house line. Some draw backs of the phone are that the color screen is pretty hard to see outside in the daytime, its size, and the software configuration takes some getting used to. I am overall pleased with the phone however and i would recommend it to anyone else, and to think, i almost didn't buy it!
