Disappointing but looks good!

Sep 14, 2008 by dingdang

I was excited to upgrade to this phone. I thought it looked good and was anticipating using the a 'slider.' After a week I shook my head and admitted I had made a mistake in changing phones. Here's why:
-navigation dial is very sensitive and I am always starting over and using the back button
-terrible reception. Side-by-side test with 5 other cell phones in the same room with the same carrier... all had reception except my LG Shine.
- dead zones everywhere.. places I had previous good reception... along major interstate I-75!
-low battery life. Have to charge every 48 hours.
-scratches easily.
- difficult to hear because you are talking into a board.. unlike flip phones that angle towards your ear and mouth.

There was so much to not like for this phone, I decided to nix it before using the camera and etc.
I switched back to my old LG phone that I can hear, only have to charge weekly and gets great reception.. anywhere!

Shine VS Sony W810

Sep 11, 2008 by quadnut

The phone seems to be built durable with the metal cover and all. My previous phone was a sony w810. Between the 2- the LG is going back to ATT. Going to buy another 810!!
The battery life on the Shine was horrible-1st charge didnt get me a full day!!
Controls are difficult to navigate, texting was much easier on the Sony.
No Emoticons!!
Camera seems comparable.
No easy to access Flash light function- Don't need i? I didn't realize how much I used mine on the sony!!
Easy to reject calls unintentionally-still don't know what I did.
The w810 is a much superior phone, Only thing I will regret is the shine is a 3g phone-but thats not worth the frustration of the LG.

LG CU720 - Born to Shine or Born to Flop?

Sep 11, 2008 by GMFWDFAN

I received this phone in May of 2008, as my graduation present. It replaced my Samsung A727, which in turn was a free AT&T warranty replacement for my THREE defective Motorola Razrs. I was looking forward to getting this phone for a long time, because according to reviews and information, it appeared to be the best bet for me.

Well, I'm on my second Shine now. My first one developed a nasty habit of shutting off when I slid it open. And the sliding mechanism itself was messed up causing the phone to become hard to shut, and carving a deep scratch into the back of the sliding part. That Shine would also show an antenna symbol instead of the normal E for edge signal. This antenna would have three to four (sometimes five) bars next to it, apparently showing good signal strength. But there would be no AT&T logo on the main screen, and any call or text would fail immediately due to lack of service. Towards the end that event occured about once every thirty minutes.

So on to my current Shine. It does pretty good, considering how much I use it. I send upwards of 6,000 texts a month. The battery lasts about a day or so. I usually charge it every day to every other day. Here's a short-ish list of my personal pros and cons of the LG Shine:

Pros:
- Beautiful design
- Mirror screen is unique and useful
- t9 predictive text is relatively smart
- Joystick control is user-friendly (at least for me)
- User interface is easy to learn (way better than my Samsung's)
- Camera is amazing (I use it instead of my digital camera many times)

Cons:
- Signal strength is subpar (I often have no signal when friends around me have three to four bars)
- Ringer Volume isn't nearly loud enough
- Text Message Memory (only holds 150-ish messages whereas my Samsung held 400)
- Random quirks (freezing up, antenna symbol and signal bars but no signal)
- Difficulty maintaining 3G (switches back and forth from 3G to edge even in big cities where 3G is prominent)

What are you talking about?!

I don't know what you guys are talking about! I think it's a great phone with lots of awesome features. I had the Moto Razr which didn't have all the features. Like the tip calculator. It comes in very use while on vacation at all the restaurants. I also like the the camera because you hold like an actual camera. It looks great on the big screen. If you asked me I'd say "GET IT!"

Nice replacement phone

I just purchased this phone and overall it is pretty good with a few minor adjustments needed.

Pros - Looks good, call volume is good, camera is decent for a phone, solid construction, easy menu, keys are not as small as other reviews indicated.

Cons- Ringtone volume is weak, wallpaper selection could be better, i just know that the screen will be scratched very soon! My biggest complaint is that it is not a Motorola...

has shine but it will tanrnish

pros: great camera and camera settings with large view for easy pics

looks nice

user friendly

cons : cheaply made
gets loose really quick
not durable (never drop this or you could be doomed) its just not well built

screen scratches easily
distorted rings and speakerphone

it s just a descent phone nothing special except its looks and the camera features

HYPE

WOW ive been waiting to get this phone for a while now. The commercials and everything were amazing and i just wanted it more.

First of all, i dont get amazng service at my apartment which is a huge drag! My v3xx had little service sometimes but never none at all. I lose service for almost an hour at a time sometimes. It is frustrating to say the least.

The volume on the music player is pathetic although i havent tried with a headset yet so theres still hope!

I am still getting used to some of the features but I am impressed with the physical design of the phone. The slider is nice and i am in love with the joystick! I use my phone mostly for texts and i have no problem using the keypad.

I guess overall I am content but when im at home i feel cut off from the world :(

Features 10, Design 10, Function 2

This phone belongs in the Museum of Modern Art with its clean lines, nice feel and unique metallic finish. It has an excellent feature set (although AT&T has done their best to mess it up with AT&T Mall and other marketing items which are permanently in your face and cannot be removed from basic menu screens.)

But after three weeks of struggling with the phone, it goes back to AT&T because it just doesn't work as a phone. Incoming callers inexplicably go immediately to voice mail -- sometimes -- and the phone fails to connect to AT&T cell sites even when a low-end Nokia in the same room works fine. Seeing "service unavailable" gets pretty tiresome after a while.

I really wanted to keep this phone. It seems like LG hired the worlds best industrial designers and some excellent software engineers -- but then decided that the radio frequency engineering part of the team would just have to take a back seat.

My problem is that I am now spoiled by the aesthetics and don't see anything on the market that even comes close. But I doubt that I'd consider another LG product.
